"Behave yourself prudently - among thousands of people, only one dies a natural death, the rest die as a result of the reckless manner of being."

Medieval philosopher Maimonides

In the branch library number 9

At the end of the 20th century, recklessness brought humanity to the brink of disaster. The human immunodeficiency virus, identified in 1981-82 in the United States, has rapidly spread across all continents. The world is currently experiencing an infection pandemic that claims millions of lives every year. Therapy of this disease remains a complex and unsolved problem, since there are no means to radically cure HIV-infected patients. Therefore, the only way to stop the spread of the virus around the planet today is to prevent it from entering your body. There is no need to be afraid, you need to know! Know how the virus can get into your body, and in what ways you can protect yourself. Information support in this is traditionally provided by municipal libraries cities.

Using the possibilities of book collections, information and educational work is traditionally carried out in libraries: thematic book exhibitions are arranged, near which conversations and reviews of the publications presented are held.

November 30th v branch library number 9 opened exhibition "May there always be TOMORROW!" dedicated to World AIDS Day. The readers are presented with literature on the history of the disease, on the ways of transmission of the virus, syndromes and risk groups, treatment and prevention of HIV infection, books on drug addiction problems. And also checklists providing information on some of the above topics.

During the day, the exhibition held mini-conversations with readers of different age groups: "What is HIV?", "So that the pain of others does not become yours", "Be prudent!"

The participants in the conversations learned that on the territory of the countries the former USSR the first case of HIV was officially reported in 1986. Today HIV cases have been detected in all regions of Russia. Among the most disadvantaged are the Irkutsk, Samara, Orenburg, Sverdlovsk, Leningrad regions and a number of other regions.

The main mode of HIV transmission remains injecting drug use, and the most vulnerable group of the population is boys and girls under 30 years of age. Their share in the total number of people living with HIV in Russia exceeds 80%.

Librarians tried to convey to the audience the idea that HIV concerns everyone today. The virus does not select people for social status, lifestyle and habits and can enter the body of any person. Every 6 seconds, someone in the world becomes HIV positive. It depends only on you whether you change your behavior and stay healthy, or live with HIV.

Today the HIV / AIDS epidemic in Russia is at the stage when it can be stopped. But until each of us changes our attitude to the problem and our behavior, it is impossible to expect that the growth of new cases will stop.

Be prudent - may your children have tomorrow!

November 30th
began to act book exhibition"Caution AIDS!" and in reading room Central City Library named after M. Gorky... The exhibition presents books from the library fund and printed materials
Lipetsk regional center on the prevention and control of AIDS and infectious diseases, which were introduced to library visitors.

All over the world today they talk about AIDS, about what a threat to the existence of mankind this global epidemic poses, about the scale of this tragedy, about the fact that this plague of the 21st century threatens the existence of mankind ... and, of course, about how to stop the global spread of the epidemic HIV / AIDS.

On June 5, 1981, the American Center for Disease Control registered a new disease - AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome). World AIDS Day was first celebrated on 1 December 1988, following a call for social tolerance and increased sharing of information on HIV / AIDS at a meeting of ministers of health from all countries.

World AIDS Day, celebrated annually on December 1, serves to strengthen organized efforts to combat the HIV and AIDS pandemic spreading across all regions of the world. Organized efforts are aimed at strengthening public support for HIV / AIDS prevention programs, organizing training and providing information on all aspects of HIV / AIDS. World AIDS Day has become an annual event in most countries.

The symbol of the fight against AIDS is the red ribbon, and not a single action in this area is complete today without it. The Red Ribbon Project was officially launched at the 45th Annual TonyAwards on June 2, 2000. All nominees and participants were invited to pin such tapes. The red ribbon was meant to symbolize our compassion, support and hope for an AIDS-free future. And the red ribbon has gained immense popularity.

On December 1, librarians of the Pervomaisky central regional library with students of the school conducted a health lesson "How to get rid of bad habits." The guys were told about bad habits humanity: alcoholism, drug addiction, tobacco smoking. How do these habits lead to dire consequences for the human body, what diseases cause these addictions. They urged children not to try all these terrible things like alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, but healthy image life. The students were shown the video "Problems of fighting AIDS in the Orenburg region", from which the students learned how things are in this matter in the Orenburg region. The event ended with a flash mob "December 1 - World AIDS Day".

Employees of the Pervomaiskaya central regional children's library held a conversation "The red ribbon is ..." with students of grades 7-9. May Day school.

Rubezhinskaya model rural library, as part of the campaign against AIDS, designed an exhibition-poster "Who owns the information, owns the situation"; the readers were shown a video about the means of combating this dangerous disease and the dissemination of information about it among the population.

In the Miroshkinsky rural library for students of 10-11 grades. a video review "This is dangerous - do not risk in vain!" was prepared. The librarian told about the history of the appearance of this terrible viral infection, about the fact that more than 25 million people have already died from it in the world, about the ways to fight this still incurable disease.

The Michurinsk Rural Library prepared and conducted a conversation "I choose a healthy lifestyle" for its readers. The purpose of the event: the formation of the priorities of a healthy lifestyle in children and adolescents and a negative attitude towards drugs, alcohol, tobacco smoking, psychotropic substances.

Dear guys, today we celebrate AIDS Day at school. You are familiar with the plan. I will not announce it, I will only emphasize that on the ruler, in today's speech, as well as on posters, you will find answers to many questions of the quiz

So, the word to class 10:

Teacher: Hear the story of a man close person which - own daughter got sick with AIDS.

Slow sad music sounds.

1 student... It was an ordinary gray and cold room with a damp, sour smell of unironed sheets. For some reason, the sun on this day did not want to go out because of the clouds heavily hanging over the city, but sometimes the smoky gaps gave a drop of hope.

This was her third month at the clinic. He sat next to him, holding Her hand, and dumb fatigue slowly took Him away. last strength... She was still beautiful, despite the pallor of her face and the sadness of her eyes, which now seemed unusually deep. How strange and painful it is to watch the world from under trembling ashen eyelashes, wrapped in a hospital blanket ... A dropper dripped monotonously, counting down the last seconds of life like a cuckoo. Nurses and nurses walked by, offering coffee from time to time. He had been sitting here for five days already, and when the nurse replaced him, he closed his eyes and heard a whisper in the corridor: “Sorry for my father, she’s her own fault ...” But he knew that she was not what they say about her. She is brave, kind, pure, only she was not lucky in life, and he was unable to support her and discern the trouble in time ...

Now he was holding her hand, and she, slightly raised herself and leaned her elbows on the pillow, reached out to him and kissed him. He hugged her, she laid her head on his shoulder. He stroked her hair and recalled how she grew up, how he first saw her in the maternity hospital in the arms of a nurse, who for some reason looked tired and not at all happy, as he laughed when she did not utter her first words, like rejoiced when she met him from work and ran towards his arms, holding his slippers ... The last seconds seemed like an eternity. All life, happy, joyful, unearthly and distant, kept within these few seconds and swept by ...

He opened his eyes: the droppers were removed, the bed was made, the crumbling asters stood lonely in a glass jar.

"Will you pick up your things?"

On the table lay her bag, a bunch of old baubles, two cheap rings, a tattered photograph of a singer, a coin on a leather cord, and a perfume that he always bought her because she loved that smell very much ... ...

She was a little eccentric, but she always loved to share everything intimate with him rather than with her mother, who scolded rather than praised.

How could he not notice, how could he not feel the misfortune that rushed into their house like a whirlwind?

And then there was a word that destroyed their happy home, changed the running of time: AIDS.

How can these four letters take away what is yours, what is so dear to your heart? What has she done to the world? Why did it happen? For what? What for?

Teacher : The words AIDS and HIV are familiar to everyone, but not everyone knows what it is and what is the difference between them.

2 student HIV is the Human Immunodeficiency Virus. For a long time after infection, HIV is not dangerous for the life of an infected person and may not manifest itself in anything. The body initially successfully resists the effects of the virus, and this combat continues for several years. However, when the virus manages to destroy a significant part of the immune system, it ceases to cope with its functions, and the person is threatened serious illnesses and death from infections that are not dangerous to most people. This last phase of HIV infection is called AIDS, or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. Although the AIDS epidemic began not so long ago - just 15 years ago - the virus that causes this disease is the best understood. discovered by science viruses: influenza virus, hepatitis, etc. It is known with full certainty how it is possible and how not to get infected with HIV, and this knowledge has been confirmed by many years practical experience... Nevertheless, the epidemic continues to spread, because not all people have reliable information about how the infection is transmitted and how to protect themselves from it. And even those who have this information do not always have the opportunity to change their living conditions and their behavior in order to completely eliminate the risk of HIV infection.

Teacher: Ways of AIDS spread:

3 student.

Intimate sexual intercourse.

Intravenous administration of drugs or drugs.

Blood transfusion.

Tattooing or rituals involving the use of human blood.

Organ transplant.

Teacher: How to behave if your friend is diagnosed with HIV ...

5 student. You probably want to know how you can help him ... The diagnosis of "HIV infection" is a severe stress that is difficult to overcome alone. Learn to be a good listener, do not rush to express your judgments and give advice, do not forget that your friend does not need and even offensive your pity, but understanding and support is needed. If you want to inform someone about a friend's illness - even from the most noble motives - hold back and keep silent. You cannot be prosecuted for divulging medical secrets (like a doctor or other official), but will you forgive yourself if your friend or loved ones have new problems as a result of your candor? Did you know that discrimination and social abuse are often the cause of the premature death of people with HIV? If your HIV test is positive, don't panic. Don't blame yourself. Remember you can live with HIV long years, and it depends on you how many and how you will live them. Your main weapons are information and will to live. Learn as much as possible about the development of HIV, about medications, proper nutrition and ways to maintain your health. Seek help from AIDS centers, AIDS service organizations, but do not forget that the main role in the fight against the disease is assigned to you.

Twilight on the stage and in the hall. The composition of the group "Era" sounds, voice-over,)

This word is familiar to almost everyone. AIDS is a worldwide problem. The first HIV-infected people appeared on the African continent. They died quickly and painfully. Every day the number of people infected with AIDS is growing, every day in our country about eight people are infected. It is believed that by 2010 more than 20 million people will be infected with the virus and 57 million will develop AIDS.

(Six people appear on the stage, dressed in mourning clothes corresponding to their image with the AIDS sign on their backs, they are holding lighted candles in their hands; they stand on the stage in a semicircle, each in his own place, indicated on the floor by a white circle with a red border. Their heads are down. Death enters the center of the stage.)

Death... The world has split into fragile edges

After drying the moisture in a transparent glass.

People left without leaving a trace

To the world of hard lines, to the world of harsh words.

The actions of the Creator are worthy of surprise

- Our hearts are filled with bitterness.

We leave this world without knowing

No beginning, no meaning, no end.

(Music changes to the sound of a metronome, the characters in turn look up and begin to tell stories of their lives.)

Addict: I became a drug addict 5 years ago, in the last year my condition has worsened. I spent all the time in basements. When my parents found out that I was a drug addict, they sent me for treatment. The hospital told me that I have AIDS. Exactly 4 months ago, I fell asleep in the hospital, but I never woke up.

(Death, who sits aside on the stage, approaches him, takes the candle from his hands, extinguishes it, takes it off the stage. This happens with all the characters. Thus, after all the characters tell about themselves, on the stage only white circles remain instead of people.)

Young woman: I have an older brother, I always walked with his company. Once we were resting at the dacha, I was one of the girls. I drank too much. I only remember how they mocked me. As it turned out later, that evening I contracted AIDS. I died very soon.

Businessman: I am a businessman, I have two children, beautiful wife which I have never cheated on. Once, at work, I went on a long business trip to resort town... There I met a girl ... She was sick with AIDS, but I found out about this only after returning home. I died two years later.

Unborn girl: Now I would be 14 years old, I was a tall brunette with brown eyes. Every day I would go to school, and in the evening on the street with the guys I would sing songs with a guitar. But, unfortunately, my mom got AIDS even before I was born. I died with my mother when spring came to the Planet.

Street child: My mom died when I was three years old. Dad was often not at home at night, he came in the morning, sometimes not sober. At night I was scared alone, I hid under the covers and cried. Then dad got sick with AIDS. He died, and they gave me to Orphanage... I could not bear it and therefore often ran away from orphanage... During last escape I was in a car accident and died.

Girl: I and my parents got into a car accident. While we were taken to the hospital, I lost a lot of blood. Doctors, wanting to save me, made an emergency transfusion. Later I was told that an infection had been introduced. This infection turned out to be AIDS. I died on September 23, two days before my birthday.

(The light turns on. Under the sad composition, the "inhabitants from the dead Atlantis" come out onto the stage one by one and stand between the circles.)

1 resident: A careless attitude towards oneself, a hectic lifestyle, the consequence of which was AIDS, ruined our planet 10,000 years ago.

2 inhabitant: First, hundreds died, then thousands, then hundreds of thousands.

3 inhabitant: To save the earth from this virus, we had to sink Atlantis, with the remnants of the population.

4 inhabitant: After 1000 years, this virus threatens humanity again.

(People stretch out their hands to the sky.)

Together: People!!! Do not repeat our mistakes, do not doom yourself to complete destruction !!! This is what we, the inhabitants of the lost Atlantis, say. (the artists bow and leave the stage.)

Stages of HIV infection

The American Institute for AIDS Virus Research identifies 6 stages

1. Penetration of the virus into the body. People do not yet feel that they are sick. The body secretes enough antibodies to fight the disease, but through sexual intercourse, patients already infect other people.

2. Night sweats, swollen glands. After 2-3 weeks, for most of those infected, these symptoms disappear, and the person does not yet know that he is a carrier of the virus.

3. Damage to the immune system. In adults, this period can last 10 years. People don't feel sick.

4. Damage to the immune system and weakening of the body's resistance to infectious diseases. If a person is exposed to any viral disease, it is much more difficult for him to recover than before he contracted AIDS.

Stars "and AIDS: the path of death

For many years HIV has been called the disease of homosexuals, prostitutes, drug addicts and other social marginal people around the world. It was believed that a respectable and respected citizen could not "get infected" by this, therefore society was simply indifferent and, to some extent, even hostile towards carriers of the virus and those who were sick. The situation changed after the popularly beloved actor died of AIDS in July 1985. Rock hudson, which became the first "star" victim of this plague of the twentieth century. Hudson's death was a kind of catalyst that allowed society to reconsider its views on the problem of HIV. Society realized that the disease has become an epidemic and can affect anyone. Before that, people simply refused to be tested for HIV, fearing for their reputation, position in society, and work. Hudson topped the star list was followed by others: Brad Davis, Anthony Perkins, Robert Reid, Amanda Blake. Dies in 1991 Brad Davis, leaving behind a diary that he kept throughout his illness. The physical and emotional suffering of a terminally ill person, up to last moment hiding his illness, finally changed the attitude of society towards HIV. In 1994, the MTV channel attracted an HIV-infected actor for filming in one of its popular documentary television series Pedro Zamora. His appearance on the screen made it possible to remove the stamp of social shame from the disease, which had previously been used in one way or another by the leading Western media. A large-scale HIV prevention and control campaign is underway around the world. Hollywood joins the promotion of safe sex, led by a star of the first magnitude Elizabeth Taylor whose list of husbands is very close to the number 10, and lovers - is beyond counting. Thanks to the support of Taylor (she was a close friend of Rock Hudson, in whose memory she took up anti-AIDS propaganda), several funds were founded to support AIDS patients and HIV prevention, and the first charity concerts to raise funds for Scientific research associated with HIV. Taylor was later joined by such idols of the music scene as Madonna and Elton John.

The most famous victim of AIDS from the world of show business was, of course, Freddie Mercury, whose tenth anniversary was celebrated on November 24 this year. But there were others ... Back in 1983, AIDS ended life. Klaus Nomi, the most talented musician who worked a lot with David Bowie... In 1985 he died of AIDS (as it became known later) Ricky Wilson, founder of the popular in the past group B-52.

In 1987, the most famous in the United States died pianist Liberace, who was very loved by the public, for he knew how to freely and beautifully handle classical music... His death, perhaps, struck the Americans then as well as the death Rock Hudson... In 1990, illness claimed the life of a famous Cuban dissident writer Renaldo Arenas, whose life is told in the recent film "Until Nightfall" with Javier Bardem in the title role.

Died of AIDS in 1991 David Mankaba, leader of the Zimbabwean group Bhundu Boys... The Bhundu Boys were quite popular and even had several hits at the top of the charts.

In 1993 AIDS killed the world famous dancer Rudolf Nureyev, who was called "the god of dance". There were also rumors that he died Holly Johnson, the leader of the group Frankie goes to holliwood, which performed the hit Relax, which was super popular in the 80s, however, there is no reliable information. It is only known that Holly announced in 1992 that he was HIV-positive.

In 1997 he died Fela Kuti, famous Nigerian musician.

Finally, today's latest superstar, AIDS victim is a wonderful singer Ofra Haza who sang oriental songs and worked with Paula Abdul, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop and others. She died on February 23, 2000 at the age of 42. Probably, it can be argued that all the forces and means that were thrown by the West to curb HIV infection were not wasted, the shock caused by the death of the idol, first of all, this refers to the death of Freddie Mercury, did not pass without leaving a trace. Safe sex has long become the norm for both homosexuals and "straight" people in developed countries. Has it become the norm for Russia? I would like to believe that yes. Or, to realize that AIDS in our country is a reality, we need our own Freddie Mercury? Tatiana Lazareva, TV presenter and one of 25 women from Russia and Ukraine participating in the campaign “ Stars against AIDS».

This is an unprecedented project to combat stigma and discrimination in the Eastern European region. UNAIDS has brought together successful women from Russia and Ukraine to help dispel the taboos and prejudices often surrounding AIDS and reduce discrimination against people living with HIV. Celebrity women from the arts, media and sports have combined their talents and voices to ensure a proactive response to the AIDS epidemic. Twenty five famous women agreed to pose for the famous photographer Serge Golovach, who offered his services free of charge as part of this campaign. By organizing an exhibition of these portraits, the project aims to raise awareness about AIDS, disseminate information about HIV and reduce stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV. Dina Korzun, actress Grant Life Foundation

However, it turned out that it is much more important to put in the effort and try to find information. Then I realized that the main problem associated with this disease is ignorance and the resulting intolerance, ”she added. This exhibition opened on May 15 at the Stella Art Foundation in Moscow. The opening was attended by Elena Hanga and Maria Arbatova - two celebrities who participated in the project - as well as representatives of the Ministry of Health and social development Russia, UNAIDS Program Coordinator in Russia and heads of UN agencies in the country. It is planned that during 2008 this exhibition will be shown in various cities of Russia and Ukraine. A selection of portraits will also be released in calendar format for 2009 in conjunction with World AIDS Day later this year. V last years v Eastern Europe and Central Asia there has been a significant increase in the number of new HIV infections. An estimated 150,000 people became infected with HIV in 2007, resulting in total number of people living with HIV in Eastern Europe and Central Asia has grown to 1.6 million; 630,000, or 150% more than in 2001. Almost 90% of new HIV cases diagnosed in 2006 were registered in two countries - Russian Federation(66%) and Ukraine (21%). Moreover, up to 40% of all new infections in the region are in women. “This project is important because it promotes a broad discussion of the AIDS problem. In many other countries, we have seen that when AIDS awareness is raised, HIV prevention programs work more effectively and people living with HIV receive more help. The twenty-five women involved in this project are helping to make such a broad discussion possible. We are very grateful to them for their participation and support, ”said Lisa Carty, UNAIDS Program Coordinator in the Russian Federation.

How to know if you have HIV? There is only one way to know for sure - to get tested for HIV. To do this, take blood from a vein and examine it for the presence of antibodies to HIV. If antibodies to HIV are found in the blood, then a second analysis is done on a more accurate test system for confirmation. Before taking blood and before announcing the result, you must explain what a positive or negative test result means, and answer your questions. An HIV test can be taken anonymously or by giving your last name, for money or for free. There are several addresses and telephone numbers at the end of this brochure to contact. A positive result means HIV is likely in the blood. The analysis does not show whether a person has AIDS. A negative result means that either there is no HIV in the blood, or too little time has passed since the infection, and the antibodies have not yet had time to develop. For reliability, the analysis should be retaken in 1-3 months. Obviously, it makes no sense to get tested the next morning after a dangerous contact, you will have to wait at least a month. Regardless of where and how you take the test, its result is a medical secret, for the disclosure of which the health worker is responsible by law. Your result is not allowed to report at the place of residence, work or study. If a medical secret has been divulged, you can defend your rights in court. Only you can decide whether to get tested for HIV or not. Nobody has the right to force you to do this or to make an analysis without your knowledge. The requirement to pass an HIV test upon admission to work (except for several professions stipulated in the law related to medicine and laboratory research) is absolutely illegal and can be appealed in court. You cannot be fired from your job, expelled from educational institution or refuse admission to study based on your HIV positive status or your refusal to get tested for HIV.

Medications

Now a person with HIV infection has many more opportunities to live a long and fulfilling life. HIV infection and AIDS are not yet radically cured, but every day more and more effective drugs to maintain health and prolong life. One of the main groups of such drugs is antiretroviral drugs, which interfere with life cycle HIV or prevent it from reproducing. The first such drug was AZT, which was approved for use in 1987. Since then, the number of such drugs has expanded. There are two large groups of antiretroviral drugs: protease inhibitors and reverse transcriptase inhibitors. Protease and reverse transcriptase are proteins that are part of HIV and are necessary for the virus to reproduce. The word inhibitor means that a drug prevents a given protein from performing its function and thereby inhibits the multiplication of the virus. The most effective treatment is considered to be an individually tailored cocktail of two reverse transcriptase inhibitors and one protease inhibitor. The drug allows literally bringing patients with severe forms of AIDS back to life and suppressing the activity of the virus to such an extent that even the most sensitive analysis cannot detect it. Unfortunately, antiviral drugs have significant disadvantages: Very high cost of treatment. Severe side effects that make these drugs unsuitable for some patients.
