In this lesson, we will look at how to draw small children, study the features of the structure of the child's head and draw his face.

How to draw children. Face proportions in children.

To draw a child's face, you need to know certain structural principles that are different from adults. Aspect ratio is the ratio of one drawing component to another. Using the right guidelines, the portraits of children look exactly like children, and not like mini-adults. To do this, you must know two basic conditions. This applies to the bottom human head called the face or face area, and to the cerebral section of the skull at the top of the head called the skull.

In the first image below, you can clearly see how the child's face is in proportion to the skull. Notice the lines that visually separate the head into sections (like slices of a pie). Except for the cervical region, the head is divided into four and a half segments. The baby's face occupies only one section, while the cranium occupies all the other head shapes (shape refers to the outer contour). Thus, a child's skull is more than three times larger than his face.

The most common mistake for beginners when trying to paint a portrait of a child is to make the face too large for the size of the skull. Further, it is necessary to emphasize how proportionally the tiny face of a child is in comparison with the skull in the face of the head of an adult. The head of an adult is divided into three parts (excluding the cervical region). The face is in one part, and the skull in the other two. The skull of an adult is twice the size of the facial region.

Children's faces come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but the build of most is the same. How to paint portraits of children so that you get a realistic representation of their tiny faces in reality. Face size scheme, head proportions. This is the key to correctly drawing portraits of children.

The figure below shows that the child's head, including his ears, is placed inside the circle. The shape of the head is similar to that of an egg, but much shorter. Notice that the tiny face is below the horizontal line in the middle of the circle. In profile (side view), only the chin and tiny portions of the upper lip protrude from the circle.

The next time you draw a child, it will take you time to carefully examine the head and proportional features. First of all, take into account the attitude small face compared to the size of the skull, as well as the location of the eyes, nose, mouth and ears.

Note also the tiny baby's neck compared to the size of the head. No need to wonder why young children can't keep their heads on their own! Look carefully at the drawing of the child's profile in the picture. Notice the five horizontal lines:
AB is midway between the top of the head and the chin.
CD is in the middle between AD and EF.
EF is halfway between AB and IJ.
GH is halfway between EF and IJ.
The IJ is located at the bottom of the bone in the chin (lower jaw) area, not at the bottom of the soft tissue under the chin. Babies usually have what is commonly referred to as a "double chin".

Remember the location of the parts of the child's face in relation to the five lines:
Eyebrows: are on the AB line.
Eyes: Located between the AB and CD lines.
Nose: Located between the CD and EF lines.
Mouth: Located between the EF and GH lines.
Chin: IJ straight line.
We got acquainted with the basic principles of drawing children.

Now we will see how to draw a face (portrait) of a child in stages.

Let me join you in a fun exercise where you draw the baby's face in proportion to the size of the head. Find drawing paper, sharpen your pencil and find a ruler!

1) Draw a square and divide it into four equal parts. The size of your square will determine the size of the baby's head. I have it very tiny 5 "by 5" (12.7cm), but you can make your square larger. The four smaller squares will help you create precise proportions when drawing the baby's face and head.

2) Draw a circle in the bottom left square to show the size of the child's face. The bad news is that no tutorial can teach you how to draw a circle. The good news is that practice is a great teacher. In other words, you learn how to draw a circle by hand yourself, the more practice the better. Some useful tips include:

- rotate the paper and look at your drawing with different points vision. This little trick often allows you to see problem areas;

- look at the reflection of your circle in the mirror to help you see the areas in need of fixation.

3) Draw a large circle in original square to represent the size of the child's head. The goal is to draw a profile of the child's face in proportion to the size of his or her head. When you see the face size as a small circle and the head as a large circle, you might be quite surprised at what a baby's face really is!

4) Draw the shape of the face in a narrow circle.

5) Draw curved lines for the baby's head.

6) Draw the outline of the ear in the lower right square.

7) Draw the eyes, nose and mouth, and add details to the ear.

8) Erase your entire drawing with a soft eraser until the sketch lines are barely visible.

9) Erase the outlines of the squares and circles.

10) Draw barely noticeable hair, erasing part of the outline of the face and neck. Be patient! Do the lesson in stages, rest, you should not be overwhelmed! Constantly refer to my drawing, correct small parts and adjust the proportions.

Shading the face and hair.

Shading (shading) portraits of children should be done in soft tones and without too much contrast. This helps keep their faces looking tender. Shading means to apply different shades gray, which make the drawing appear three-dimensional. Contrast measures the degree of difference between light and dark tones, and creates the illusion of three-dimensional space on the sheet. Tones are created when you draw strokes with a pencil, while changing the density between the lines, pressure on the pencil and using pencils of different softness.

11) Add shading to the child's face, while using different tones.

12) Add shading for the eyes, nose and mouth. The pupil of the eye has the darkest tone. The pupil is the dark circle inside the iris. The iris is a large circular eye that ranges in color from very light to very dark. Don't forget to leave a white spot (highlight) to make the eye look shiny. The highlight is the tiny bright spot where light reflects off the shiny surface of the eye.

13) Darken the face and neck area with a 2B pencil. The baby's shape is tiny compared to the size of the head. Do shading in areas of the face that hardly receive light.

14) Use HB and 2B shading with pencils to add shading to the ear.

15) Add shading to the hair using HB and 2B pencils. See two images below. The soft parts of the hair are drawn as short, curved lines. Pay attention to hair tones.

See below, the baby's face profile portrait is complete and you can make any changes if you like. As you can see, the baby's head is actually three times larger than its cute face.

There are artists whose animals and birds are the main characters of drawings and paintings. They are called animalists. The word "animalist" comes from the Latin word "animal", which means "animal." But drawing animals is not so easy. Because animals can't pose. The animalist has to diligently observe and study their habits and character. The artist begins his work by making sketches, sketches and sketches from the nature of live animals, birds, fish, and the implementation of long-term work is usually carried out with stuffed animals or from a photograph.
Animal artists try not only to achieve external similarity, but also reflect in the drawings the character inherent in the depicted animal or bird, they try to convey the individuality of the animal.

One of these artists, folk artist Russian Viktor Chizhikov is the author of the Olympic bear cub Mishka, the XXII summer mascot Olympic Games, which took place in Moscow in 1980.

He designed books by Marshak and Barto, Chukovsky and Volkov, Mikhalkov and Nosov. For half a century, his illustrations have appeared in the magazines " Funny pictures"," Murzilka ". In his drawings, complete sunlight, humor and joy, more than one generation of readers has grown up. One of the artist's favorite themes is the image of cats.
Wonderful illustrations were drawn by Viktor Chizhikov for the book by Andrey Usachev "The Planet of Cats". The artist gave his heroes - animals the traits peculiar to people.

There is a cat planet somewhere.
There are cats, how people live:
Reading newspapers in bed
And they drink coffee with cream.
They have apartments and summer cottages,
Cars and other comfort.
They love to fish
And they take the children to the resort.
They fly to overseas countries.
Find diamonds with a fist.
Tulips are planted in flower beds
And they even breed dogs.
Luxurious life on the planet
In cats, cats and kittens!
But these strange inhabitants
They are sad about something all the time ...
How many good toys!
How many records and books! ..
Only cats have no cats.
Oh, how sad we are without them.
(Andrey Usachev)

And we have no time to get bored, we start drawing a fluffy kitten.

Practical work.

We apply a stencil of the cat's figure in the middle of the album sheet.

Dip a dry sponge in yellow paint and with typing movements fill the silhouette with color. We start with the head, then the body, tail.

It turned out to be a spot - the figure of a kitten.

With a small broom in orange, draw small strokes along the contour of the figure in the direction of the growth of the kitten's fur.

Select the face, legs, chest and cheeks.

Draw stripes on the kitten's tail, sides and head.

With a brush, draw the eyes, nose and mouth of the kitten, paint on the mustache and eyebrows.

You can draw the background yourself. You can depict a kitten on a summer lawn. We will also draw grass with a broom, flowers with a brush, and clouds with a sponge.

Christmas tree

Good day, dear parents. Today we will talk about how to teach a child to draw in stages. You should understand that this method is as accessible as possible for young children. We'll consider age features, as well as the basic rules and methods of reproducing some pictures using special algorithms.

What is the use of drawing

  1. The child develops fine motor skills.
  2. In the drawings, the perception of the world is revealed, emotions and feelings are conveyed.
  3. The baby develops his own opinion.
  4. When a child draws, the right and left hemispheres of the brain are actively developing. Thus, he is essentially acting and showing his creative inclinations.
  5. Promotes the development of visual skills, speech, memory, touch and thinking.
  6. The process allows you to develop discipline, self-organization and perseverance.
  7. The kid gets used to finish what he started.
  8. Drawing can be seen as a way of spending time calmly, which replaces active games.

Step-by-step method of creating drawings

Step-by-step drawing is a method of drawing pictures, which makes it possible to do it sequentially, following simple instructions and diagrams. First you need to teach your child to draw simple drawings and then move on to more complex ones.

Often, even adults find it difficult to understand how to draw a particular creature or object. Knowing how to do it using simple geometric figures, the drawing process will be much easier and easier. That's why this method well applicable for teaching children.

When I was little, my mother bought for me special book phased drawing... I didn't buy one for my son. Somehow it happened that my child immediately began to draw whole compositions, not for a second without thinking about anything. Received and still receives great pleasure from this process.

Learning at home

Initially, you need to take care of the acquisition necessary tools to create the first masterpieces of the child. To do this, you will need:

  • quality album;
  • soft simple pencil;
  • good eraser;
  • a set of colored pencils;
  • schemes for step by step drawing.

Do not be surprised that on this moment so few adaptations are needed. Better first business to introduce the kid to drawing with pencils, and only then move on to crayons or paints.

You also need to take care of the presence of a comfortable table, chair, good lighting. When class begins, eliminate any distractions or annoyances.

It is necessary to remember to comply certain rules in the learning process:

  • haste is a bad counselor;
  • you need to make every effort;
  • it is necessary to try to depict the drawing in the same sequence as indicated in the diagram;
  • you need to reproduce the picture, pondering and remembering your actions, so that later there will be an opportunity to do it yourself, without using schemes;
  • the first work should be fairly easy and simple to perform, then you need to consistently move on to more complex tasks;
  • remember that you cannot complement the baby's drawing. Your actions will only upset him.

We teach kids from three to four years old

  1. For a child of 3 years old, it is necessary to select only soft pencils... This is due to insufficient pressure.
  2. We show the kid how to hold it correctly. If necessary, we help with our own hand.
  3. Remember that children at the age of 3 and 4 are not yet able to confidently hold a pencil, and, therefore, draw straight lines. Therefore, at first you will have to practice doing just that.
  4. For children of this age, it is recommended to purchase special printed notebooks in which you can circle the finished pictures.
  5. The next stage is acquaintance with simple geometric shapes... We draw a triangle, circle, oval, rectangle, square.
  6. As soon as the child has mastered geometric shapes, and they began to work out for him, we move on to transforming them into new objects. For example, you can create a bus from small circles and a rectangle.

Introducing children from five to seven years old

  1. If the baby, who is already 5 years old, was previously familiar with simple techniques drawing, then you can from simple pencil go to a set of colored, also to felt-tip pens or paints. Explain to the baby that his image can be colored by giving different colors certain objects.
  2. At the age of 6, the child will be able to learn how to create compositions and whole plots in his paintings.
  3. At this age, children can be asked to depict on a piece of paper everything that they notice in everyday life.
  4. If a daughter or son has questions in creating paintings, you should always pay attention and try to find answers to them.
  5. A child at the age of 7 will already consciously convey his emotions with the help of drawings.

Examples of

I bring to your attention a plan of four phased drawings. Start with the simplest thing - a tree or a rose, and finally try out a method for drawing a person in stages. You will see that creating such pictures is not so difficult, any child will cope with the task.

Draw a tree

Inform the child that it should consist of a trunk, leaves and branches.

  1. Draw the trunk, notice that it is much wider at the base than at the top.
  2. Think about what kind of tree you are depicting. Remember that, for example, a birch has a rather thin trunk, has bends, while an oak has a massive one.
  3. Now we need to add branches. Note that they are wider at the base. You also need to understand that they are larger from the bottom of the trunk. It must be remembered that the branches of the tree begin to grow from about a quarter of its entire height. Branches are depicted directed towards the sun, that is, raised up.
  4. Try to draw small ones on thick branches, add realism to your drawing.
  5. For the first time, you can not draw each leaf, but depict the crown with one mass.
  6. Now you can color the resulting tree.

Create a rose

  1. We draw a smooth line that will be the stem of the plant.
  2. Draw the leaves on the stem.
  3. We draw an oval. This will be our future bud.
  4. Inside the oval we depict the main petals, there are two of them. We draw so that the centers of the petals resemble a rolled roll.
  5. Draw small side petals.
  6. All that remains is to add colors.

We draw a cat in stages

  1. Let's depict the head in the form of an oval.
  2. Now we need to draw a triangle in the center of the circle. It will be a nose, above it there are two circles-eyes.
  3. We draw a muzzle, add two arches that originate from the nose.
  4. Now you need to do the torso. For this purpose, draw an oval.
  5. Draw the legs, add the tail.
  6. Now let's add two triangles, positioning them on the head. These will be ears.
  7. Inside each resulting triangle, add one more.
  8. Add antennae.
  9. The cat is ready, it remains only to decorate it.

Draw the first man

Such an object is quite complex, and it is better to leave it for last when getting acquainted with a phased drawing.

However, it is worth knowing that after obtaining certain skills of step-by-step drawing, even such a drawing will not seem heavy and it will be easy for a child to recreate.

  1. To depict the head, draw a regular oval.
  2. Now, just below the drawn oval, you need to add a rectangle. This will be part of the torso, from the waist to the head.
  3. Next, you need to connect the drawn parts. This will give you the neck.
  4. Draw another one under the rectangle, the same in width, but more oblong in length.
  5. The resulting rectangle must be divided into two halves, these will be the legs.
  6. Next, you need to depict the arms by drawing thin long rectangles along the upper torso.
  7. Now you can dress the resulting man. Let's add a neckline for the sweater, depict trousers, shoes and hands.
  8. Add facial features, ears.
  9. So it turned out to be a little man. It remains to give it brightness by decorating it.

Now you know how to teach a child to draw. The main thing is to be patient and do not put pressure on the baby. He'll be ready when the time is right. Try to explain his mistakes as much as possible, remember that you cannot interfere with the work of children and make any adjustments to it.

To draw a child, of course, you need to know some of the features, and the first thing is that the features and proportions in the size of a child are very different from an adult, as the child grows up, the proportions of the child change very much and when starting to draw, first be sure to read about the features and only then proceed to the section or Draw a baby in a sitting position with a pencil.

Features of drawing small children

If you look closely, children differ from adults not only in their size. The proportions of the body and face in children are not at all the same as in adults.

The main difference is the size of the head. In young children, the frontal part is much larger in relation to the face. Skull y little child not yet fully formed, so the face is still small.

The chin in children is not yet fully developed either. When drawing a baby's face in profile, this fact must be taken into account. The chin should not protrude to the level of the upper lip. Moreover, children often have what adults call a double chin.
If you look at the picture below, you will see how the head changes as we grow up. You will notice that the child's eyebrows are located quite close to the nose due to the fact that the face itself occupies a small area. And only the iris of the eyes already has full dimensions, which makes the eyes of children seem so large.

The body itself in relation to the head seems disproportionately small in comparison with the body of an adult. In fact, the difference in the ratio is not that great, but it must be taken into account. We also note that the children have not yet extended a long "swan" neck, because of which the head again seems much larger.

The child's face has some features: he has a wide forehead, due to which the eyes, nose and lips are displaced in lower part, large cheeks, and in general all facial features are large. The eyebrows are located on the median horizontal line (without the chin). The nose is wide, but low.
To draw the head, use the following step-by-step sketch:

1. Draw an oval and draw a horizontal and vertical line through the center.
2. Then, below the horizontal line, divide the space into intervals by three more horizontal lines- by this we will designate where the eyes, nose, lips will be.
3. Drawing.

According to this scheme, you can draw a head with different angles, examples are shown in the picture:

Draw a baby in a sitting position with a pencil

The first thing you need to do is draw the outlines of the baby's body, head, arms and legs. We advise you to pay attention to the illustration in order to understand exactly how to position the head, because this is one of the most important parts of a child's body. We will draw it in a seated position with handles on the floor. The example clearly shows the pose, so try to depict the same drawing on your sheet. Make light jerky movements with the pencil without pressing on it. Draw a vertical stripe down the center of the oval (head) to mark the middle of the face.

Draw the details of the head, make it oval with small cheeks and a small chin. Draw a horizontal strip about just below the center and mark the eyes, a mark for the nose, and even below the mouth on it. Draw the nasolabial folds as shown. Next, you need to make a smooth transition to the shoulders and arms. Curved lines can show the folds that are present on the baby's body. Do not touch the rest of the parts yet.

On the head, you should draw small ears. They are located at eye level. Now go to the limbs. First, draw in smooth lines the miniature fingers and toes. Erase all unnecessary details with an eraser to see if you have drawn everything correctly. Make subtle lines on the baby's chest - this example shows where they are. Our toddler is sitting in panties, so draw two curved stripes in the desired area.

4. Finishing the drawing

it final stage in the process of having a baby on paper. It is necessary in order to complete the drawing and add several important details to it. First, finish the eyes - paint them in a dark color and correct the outlines. At the top, with a light intermittent strip, make the eyebrows slightly raised up. A snub nose, like all babies, will look great on a child's face. The mouth broke into a sincere smile. Draw a few curls of hair on the forehead - a kind of forelock. Erase the extra contour lines, add a shadow on the legs - the drawing is ready!
