Before the start of missionary activity, Kirill developed and ordered the Slavic ABC. She numbered 43 letters. Most letters were taken from Greek alphabet, because they are similar to them. She written "Tale of the past years", "Word about the regiment of Igor", other works of Kievan Rus. Kirill's names and Methodius are forever recorded in the history of Slavic peoples.

Saints Equal-Apostle Properties and Enlighteners Slavic, brothers Kirill and Methodius took place from a notable and pious family who lived in the Greek city of Soluni.

St. Methodius was eldest of seven brothers, Saint Constantine (Kirill - his monastic name) - the youngest. Consisting in military service, St. Methodius Rules in one of the subordinates of the Byzantine Empire of Slavic Principles, apparently, in Bulgarian, which gave him the opportunity to learn to the Slavic language. Having lived there for about 10 years, St. Methodius then accepted monasticism in one of the monasteries on Mount Olympus.

Since small years, Saint Constantine has been different and studied with the young Emperor Mikhail from the best teachers of Constantinople, including Fetia, the future Patriarch of Constantinople. Saint Constantine is perfectly comprehended by all sciences of his time and many languages, especially diligently studied by the creation of St. Gregory Theologian, and for his mind and the outstanding knowledge of Saint Constantine received a philosopher (wise) nickname. At the end of the teachings, Saint Konstantin accepted San Ierhea and was appointed Guardian of the Patriarchal Library at the Church of St. Sophia, but soon left the capital and secretly went to the monastery. Well-spoken there and returned to Constantinople, he was defined by a philosophy teacher in the Higher Constantinople School. The wisdom and the power of faith still of young Constantine were so great that he managed to defeat the debate of the leader of the heretic iconoboretsev Ania. After this victory, Konstantin was sent by the emperor to the dispature of the Holy Trinity with Sarcins (Muslims) and also won. Returning, Saint Konstantin retired to his brother, Saint Methodius on Olympus, spending time in an unceasing prayer and reading the creations of the Holy Fathers.

Soon the emperor caused both holy brothers from the monastery and sent them to Khazaras for the gospel sermons. On the way, they stopped for a while in the city of Corsuni, preparing for sermons. There, the Holy Brothers miraculously found the relics of the martyr of the Clement, Pope of the Rome (25 November). In the same place in Corsun, Saint Constantine found the Gospel and the Psalter written by "Russian letters", and a person speaking in Russian, and began to learn from this person to read and speak his tongue. After that, the holy brothers went to Khazara, where they won the debates with Jews and Muslims, preaching the gospel teachings. On the way home, the brothers visited Corsun again and, taking the power of the Holy Clement there, returned to Constantinople. Saint Konstantin remained in the capital, and St. Methodius received a needle in a small polychron monastery, not far from the Mount of Olympus, where he faced before.

Soon they came to the Emperor of the ambassador from the Moravian Prince Rostislav, oppressed by German bishops, with a request to send teachers to Moravia, who could preach in their native language to Slavs. The emperor called on Saint Constantine and told him: "You need to go there, for no one will fulfill you." Saint Constantine with post and prayer began a new feat. With the help of his brother of St. Methodius and students of Muhazda, Clement, Savva, Nauma and Angeoalear, he made up the Slavic ABC and translated the book to Slavic, without which worship could not be performed: the Gospel, the Apostle, the Psalter and the elected services. It was in 863.

After the completion of the translation, the holy brothers went to Moravia, where they were adopted with the Great Honor, and began to teach worship in Slavic. It caused the malicue of German bishops who committed worship in the Moravian churches in Latin, and they rebelled against the saints of the brothers, arguing that worship can only be committed in one of three languages: Jewish, Greek or Latin. Saint Constantine answered them: "You recognize only three languages worthy of giving God on them. But David shines: Sing the Lord all the Earth, praise the Lord VSI Lord, every breath yes praises the Lord! And in the Holy Gospel it is said: We will learn all the languages. ". German bishops were posted, but they got out even more and filed a complaint to Rome. The holy brothers were called to Rome to solve this issue. Taking with them the relics of the Holy Clement, Pope, Saints Konstantin and Methodius went to Rome. Having learned that the holy brothers would carry special saints, Dad Adrian with the cram came out to meet them. The holy brothers were met with honor, Pope approved worship in Slavic, and the book translated by the brothers ordered to put in Roman churches and make a liturgy in Slavic.

Being in Rome, Saint Konstantin Zamenogozh, and, in a wonderful vision, notified by the Lord about the approach of death, accepted a schima named Cyril. 50 days after the adoption of Schima, February 14, 869, equivalent to Cyril died at the age of 42. Departing to God, Saint Cyrill commanded his brother to his holy methodology to continue their common cause - the enlightenment of the Slavic peoples with the light of true faith. Holy Methodius begged Pope to resolve the body of a brother for burial in his native land, but Dad ordered to put the relics of St. Cyril in the Church of the Holy Clement, where miracles began to be made from them.

After the death of St. Cyril Pope, following the request of the Slavic Prince Kotzel, sent St. Methodius to Pannonia, his hands-made in Archbishop of Moravia and Pannonia, on the ancient throne of the Holy Apostle Andronicus. In Pannonia, St. Methodius, together with his students, continued to distribute worship, writing and books in Slavic. It again caused the rage of German bishops. They achieved arrest and trial over the St. Methodius, who was exiled to imprisonment in Swabia, where many sufferings have undergone for two and a half years. Exempted according to the orders of the Pope John VIII and restored in the rights of Archbishop, Methodius continued the gospel sermon among the Slavs and baptized Czech Prince Borivoy and his wife Lyudmila (September 16), as well as one of Polish princes. For the third time, German bishops have erected the persecution of the saint for the defeat of the Roman teaching on the state of the Holy Spirit from the Father and from the Son. St. Methodius was called in Rome, but justified before the dad, retaining the Orthodox teaching in purity, and was again returned to the capital of Moravia - BELEGAD.

Here in the last years of his life, St. Methodius, with the help of two priest students, translated the entire Old Testament to Slavic language, and Nomocanon (the rules of the Holy Fathers) and St. Books (Candidage).

The presentation of the approach of the death, St. Methodius pointed to one of his students - Muhazda as a decent successor. The saint predicted his death day and died on April 6, 885 at the age of about 60 years. The funeral of the saint was committed in three languages - Slavic, Greek and Latin; He was buried in the Cathedral Church of the Belt.

At the beginning of its path, they went to different roads. Methodius, who was called Mikhail to the world, was the military and had the title of strategist of the province of Macedonia. Kirill, who worn before the knee name Konstantin, on the contrary, from an early age he was fond of the science and culture of neighboring peoples. He translated the Gospel to Slavic. The prerequisite for the decision to make the creation of Slavic alphabet was that in 862, the ambassadors of the Moravian Prince Rostislav arrived in Constantinople. Prince asked Emperor Constantinople to give him scientists who would have trained His people of the Christian faith in their language. Rostislav ratified that his people had long been baptized, but worship was conducted at a foreign adverb. And this is very uncomfortable, because not everyone understands him. The emperor, who discussed the request of the Moravian Prince with the Patriarch, sent brothers to Moravia. Together with their disciples they took up the translation. At first, the Solun brothers transferred Christian books to Bulgarian. These were the Psalrty, the Gospel and the Apostle. In Moravia, the church figures for 3 years have trained the local literacy population and led the service. In addition, they visited Panons and Transcarpathian Russia, where they also glorified the Christian faith.

Once they had a conflict with German priests who did not want to serve in Slavic. Pope in 868 summoned brothers to himself. Here, everyone came to a single compromise that Slavs could serve in their native language.

Staying in Italy, Konstantin is very ill. Realizing that death is not far from around the corner, he takes the monastic name Kirill. At the mortal Audas, Kirill asks Brother to continue to engage in educational activities. February 14, 869 he died

Educational activities Methodius

Returning to Moravia Methodius (he has already accepted the monastic name) is engaged in what his brother asked. But the country had a change of priests, and the Germans concluded him to the monastery. The Roman dad John VIII, having learned about the incident, forbade the German ministers to lead the liturgy until they release Methodius. In 874, he was released, and he became an archbishop. Lived in the light of Kirill and Methodius,

Two Byzantine monks and suddenly

(No, not a legend, not myth, not a parody),

Some of them thought: "Friend!

How many Slavs without Christ are unfastenless!

We must create for the Slavs alphabet ...

It is thanks to the works of the Saints Equal-Apostles Brothers Kirill and Methodius a Slavic ABC was created.

The brothers were born in the Byzantine city of Soluni in the commander's family. Methodius was the eldest son, and by choosing the route of the military, went to serve in one of the Slavic regions. His brother - Kirill, was born for 7-10 years later, Methodius, and as a child, having fallen in love with science, hit teachers with brilliant abilities. At the age of 14, the parents sent him to Constantinople, where he studied grammar and geometry, arithmetic, astronomy and medicine, antique art, well mashed Slavic, Greek, Jewish, Latin and Arabic languages. Refusing a high administrative position proposed by him, Kirill took a modest place of the librarian in the Patriarchal Library and at the same time he taught philosophy at the university, for which he received a nickname "philosopher". His elder brother Methodius went on military service. 10 years was the ruler of one of the areas inhabited by the Slavs. Being an honest and straightforward person, intolerable to injustice, he left the military service and retired to the monastery.

In 863, ambassadors from Moravia arrived in Constantinople to ask to send preachers to their country and tell the population about Christianity. The emperor decided to send Kirill and Methodius to Moravia. Kirill, before you go to the road asked if the ABC was Morava for their own language - "For the enlightement of the people without writing his language, like attempts to write on the water," explained Cyril. What got a negative answer. Alphabets at Morav did not turn out, then the brothers began work. At their disposal were no years, and months. They worked from early morning, barely seeded, and until late evening, when there were already ripples in the eyes of fatigue. In a short time, the alphabet for Moravians was created. She was named after one of her creators - Cyril - Cyrillic.

With the help of Slavic Azbuchi Cyril and Methodius, very quickly translated the basic services with Greek to Slavic. The first book written in Cyrillic became "Ostromiro Gospel", the first words written with the help of Slavic Azbuchi was the phrase - "In the beginning there was a word and the Word was God, and the word was God." And now, for more than a thousand years, Church Slavonic language is used in the Russian Orthodox Church during worship.

The Slavic alphabet existed in Russia consistently more than seven centuries. His creators tried to have every letter of the first Russian alphabet to be simple and a clear, easy for writing. They remembered that the letters should be beautiful so that a person, barely saw them, immediately wanted to master the letter.

Each letter had its name - "Az" - A; "Buki" - b; "Ardients" - in; "Verb" - r; "Good" -d.

That's from here and the winged phrases "Az Yes Buki - that's all sciences", "" Who knows "Az" yes "Buki" of that books in the hands. " In addition, the letters could be denoted and numbers. There were 43 letters in Cyrillic.

Cyrillic existed in Russian unchanged to Peter I, who removed obsolete letters without which it was quite possible to do - "Yus Big", "YUS Small", "Omega", "UK". In 1918, more than 5 letters were gone from the Russian alphabet - "Yat", "Fita", "Izhitsa", "EP", "Yer". For a thousand years, many letters disappeared from our alphabet, and only two - "y" and "ё" appeared. They came up with Russian writer and historian Karamzin in the XVII century. And now, 33 letters left in modern alphabet.

And what do you think from where the word "alphabet" came from - by the name of the first letters of the alphabet, "Az" and "Buki"; There was a few more alphabet names in Russia - ABEVEGA and "Letup".

And why is the alphabet called the alphabet? Interesting the history of this word. Alphabet. It was born in ancient Greece and consists of the names of the two first letters of the Greek alphabet: "Alpha" and "Beta". The carriers of Western languages are called: "Alphabet". And we pronounce as an "alphabet".

Slavs were very happy: other nations of Europe (Germans, francs, britt) did not have their own writing. The Slavs now had his own alphabet, and everyone could learn to read the book! "It was a wonderful moment! .. Deaf began to hear, and the silence began to say, because until that time the Slavs were as deaf and dumb" - recorded in the chronicles of those times.

Not only children, but also adults became learning. They wrote with sharp chopsticks on wooden planks covered with wax. Children loved their teachers Kirill and Methodius. Little Slavs gladly went to classes, because it was such an interesting journey on the roads of truth!

With the advent of Slavic alphabet, writing culture began to develop quickly. In Bulgaria, Serbia, books appeared in Russia. And how they were issued! The first letter - the letter - started every new chapter. The letter is unusually beautiful: in the form of a beautiful bird or a flower, it painted bright, more often with red flowers. Therefore, there is today the term "red string". Slavic handwritten book could be created for six to seven years and was very expensive. In the precious salary, with illustrations, it is a real monument of art today.

Long ago, when the story of the Great Russian Power was just beginning, "she" cost expensive. Her one could exchange horses or a herd of cows on herd, on sable fur coats. And the point here is not in the decorations, in which the beauty and the clever dressed up. And she only went in expensive embossed leather, in pearls and precious stones! Golden and silver fasteners decorated her outfit! Admiring her, people said: "Light, you are ours!" We worked on its creation for a long time, but her fate could have to work very sad. During the invasion of enemies, she was captured along with people. She could perish in a fire or when flooding. She really treated: she inspired hope, he returned the strength of the Spirit. What kind of queen is this. Yes, guys, it is Her Majesty - a book. She retained the Word of God and legends of distant years before us. The first books were handwritten. For the rewriting of one book, months left, and sometimes years. Book centers in Russia have always been monasteries. There, in the post and prayer, hardworking monks rewrite and decorated books. A collection of books in 500-1000 manuscripts was considered to be greater.

Life goes, and in the middle of the XVI century, a typography appeared in Russia. The printed yard in Moscow appeared under Ivan Grozny. Leaded by Ivan Fedorov, whom they call the first bookprint. Being a deacon and serving in the temple, he tried to embody his dream - the sacred books without scribe to rewrite. And in 1563, he began a set of first page of the first printed book - "Apostle". In total, he published 12 books for his life, among them was the full Slavic Bible.

Slavic alphabet is amazing and still considered one of the most convenient letters. And the names of Kirill and Methodius, "Slovenian primordants", became a symbol of a spiritual feat. And every person who studies Russian should know and keep in his memory the holy names of the first Slavic enlighteners - Brothers Kirill and Methodius.
