"ICONS OF MODERN ART. THE SHCHUKIN COLLECTION »

Foundation Louis Vuitton, Paris
22.10.2016 - 05.03.2017
_ If before March 5, you will find yourself in Paris, you will certainly visit the Louis Vuitton Foundation - Architect Frank Geri (author of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao), located in the Boulogne Forest. At the exhibition ICONS OF MODERN ART, works from the collection of Sergei Schukin - the Russian collector and the pages of the 20th century are collected. He was a big fan of French painting, but after the revolution emigrated, and in 1948 his collection was disbanded and since then was not exhibited as a whole. Visitors are offered to make a trip to the recreated mansion of Schukin - before seeing the works themselves, they fall into the hall with photographs of the Schukinsky house in Moscow, and on the first floor they even built arched arches, as in his lobby. The exhibition occupies all four floors of the Fund, it begins with the "First Collection" hall with the works of the XIX century. Here are collected preraphhaels, English artists and even one of the first French realists Gustina Kourba. The main halls are concentrated around the main names: "Pink living room. Henri Matisse, "Cabinet Picasso," Big Iconostasis "with works of Vincent Van Gogh and Gaugaen fields. In the rest of the halls, works are located in genres, here and landscapes, and portraits. So the audience can trace the development of painting at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries - the time of large changes in art. But this is not all: a few halls are devoted to Russian artists of the beginning of the twentieth century and their dialogue with French painters. Malevich here is adjacent to Matisse, and Tatlin's works are located near Picasso. In 1911, Gallery was opened in Schukin's house, and many Russian artists were inspired by the works of French impressionists. Specially for the exhibition was prepared by video installation of Peter Greenway and Saskoviy Boddek "Schukin - Matisse: Dance and Music" - a story about the interaction of Russian and French art. And after viewing all the halls, a pleasant completion of the exhibition will be a walk through the open terraces, from where you can admire the views of the Eiffel Tower, the modern district of Defans and the Boulogne forest itself.

The exhibition will like those who are interested in the Russian painting and the work of the postmingness. We recommend to read "postpressionism. From Van Gogh to Gauguen "John Reald. And in order to better understand the Russian art of the beginning of the twentieth century, it is worth paying attention to the book of Ekaterina Bobrinskaya "Russian Avangard: the borders of art" - the author takes into account the role of Russian artists not only in the formation of domestic art, but also in the foreign artistic process. Retrospective Takasi Murakov

Museum of Contemporary Art Garage, Moscow
September 2017.
_ Autumn to Moscow will bring the first retrospective Takasi Murakami, one of the most famous modern Japanese artists. Takasi studied the traditional Japanese painting of Nihong in Tokyo University of Fine Arts. In his work, he addresses more modern products of Japanese pop culture - anime and manga. It is he who owns the invention of the style of Superflat - Japanese painting is characterized by flatness, and it uses this feature. The exhibition will also include traditional Japanese painting and graphics from the collection of the Pushkin Museum and the Museum of Art of the Nations of the East. In the "Garage" will be presented by Murakami since the 1990s, and the exhibition itself will leave the museum limits and will be located on the Arts Square in Gorky Park.

Before visiting, it is worth reading about classical Japanese art to see much more meaning for bright art objects. We also recommend to get acquainted with Japanese literature - for example, the "praise shadow" of Junitiro Tanisaki, where the author compares Japanese and European cultures.

Venetian Biennale of Contemporary Art

13.05.2017 - 26.11.2017
_ The topic of the 57th Biennale in Venice will be "Viva Arte Viva" ("Long live life"). The exhibition is consistently revealed in front of the viewer and carries it on a journey, where each pavilion tells his story. Russia here will be presenting artists Grisha Bruskin, Sasha Pirogov and Art Group Recycle. The topic of the pavilion is "Theater of Life and Death". Recycle workshops beat the "garbage" of civilization, turning it into works of art. They also work with brands and symbols, for example, in Paradise Network, the letter F (from Facebook) becomes sculpture in the shape of a cross, and a variety of bas-reliefs are reminded of ancient Greece, only the topic of them is different - consumption society. Artists Recycle combine classic techniques and provocative topics in their works and will certainly be able to surprise even the sophisticated viewer.

Before traveling to Venice, except guidebooks, we recommend reading the "history of art" of Ernst Gombrich - in it a very simple and fascinating language is given an explanation of the most difficult topics of fine art. And the book is "Izma. How to understand the modern art "Sam Phillips, which places works in the desired context and thereby gives the key to their understanding. Biennale is definitely worth visiting at least once to become a participant in the most relevant discussion. And there will be "open tables", where everyone can learn more about the work of artists and divide lunch with friends. Site: labienna.org.

Christian Dior.

_ The Dior's house continues events in honor of the 70th anniversary, and one of the significant events of 2017 will be the retrospective exhibition of Christian Dior in the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris. The revival of already familiar silhouettes and is absolutely new, the architectural approach to Crow made the fashion designer known to the whole world, and the New Look invented them is popularly invented.

The exhibition will appeal to all fans of fashion and those who are interested in her story. She promises to be one of the more detailed this year. Crown reliquary. Maasa Valley (Liege?). 1260-1280. Paris, Louvre RMN-Grand Palais (Musée du Louvre) / Martine Beck-Coppola

Ten many years, the main engine of the exhibition success of the Museums of the Kremlin was the "Imperial and Royal Treasury of the World in the Kremlin". It seems that during this time the cycle honestly exhausted. Or almost exhausted. In the Kremlin plans for the upcoming 12 months there are, for example, already re-appealing to Japanese stories. And there is a rather exotic turn of the topic - the treasures of the Portuguese crown, which from a historical point of view is reasonably, since the Portuguese colonial empire once was the richest territorial conglomerate of the world. But still it is a few local items next to the treasures of Tudors, Habsburgs or Squast Saxon Sakson - and they have already played their glorious roles in the cycle.

"Double wrap". Stained glass window from Saint-Chapel. 1230-1248. France, Center for National Monuments Patrick Cadet / Center Des Monuments Nationaux

Moreover, the treasures of the French kings within the exhibition series already in the Kremlin toured: precious medieval, renaissance and baroque vessels from the personal collection of Louis XIV were brought from Louvre in 2004. And yet it is the current exhibition about Louis Saint on the "Treasure TV series" (for nothing, it seems to be formally, it doesn't feel about it) impeccably fits into its context. It is only necessary to remember that the case is happening in the Kremlin, which, with all its diamonds, gold, iconic, fresco and white funds, is also a repository of symbolic sinks of power. And about the power, especially the power of the medieval with its sacral and mystical obverseons, the humanitarian science of the last 50 years is no wonder to reason with the methodological support for the famous works about ritual aura around the French crown: "Kings-Wonderworkers" Mark Blok, "Two Bodies of the King" Ernst Kantorovich etc.

Reliquary thorns crown. 1806. Gold plated silver, crystal. Cathedral of Paris's Our Lady Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris / Pascal Lemaître

Louis IX, who ruled France in 1226-1270 (that is, during our Alexander Nevsky and his son Daniel Alexandrovich, the first specific prince of Moscow), was an exalted embodiment of this extremely sublime idea of \u200b\u200bthe Royal San. A pious Christian who was carrying under Porphirava. The wise and powerful ruler, who made France with a pan-European focus and political authority, and cultural superiority. A strict justice worker, self-arguing the charges of his subjects of all ranks; Something from his acts in this capacity (extermination of blasphemers, rovists, players, prostitutes) Outside the context of time, the top of justice may not look, but the principles of the rule of the national judicial authority, the presumption of innocence, supports on the Roman law and ban on barbaric remnants It seems like orders and court fights actually in any context not bad. Knight without fear and reproach, and therefore, the crusader: Louis personally participated in the seventh and eighth crusades. Which for him, with all his zeal and heroism, turned around with solid disasters: defeats, captivity, forced concessions to Sracinam, camp diseases (especially the dysentery, which and thugged the king, - of course, not romantic, but what to do!). But the additional shine of his crown was attached to them.

Not to all the great rulers can create an ideal and eloquent architectural manifesto, but Louis Saint It succeeded. His Saint-Chapel, Holy Capella, not just a tritomatic sample of high gothic. First, this is a sign of royal grandeur. In Saint-Chapel, in fact, two temples located one over the other. Building lower - for royal servants, upper, dazzlingly beautiful, filled with multi-colored light, refracted in stained-glass windows, which there are so many that the real tact of the walls disappears, was intended for the monarch.

Kazanova, I remember, proudly wrote about the Venetian Basilica of St. Mark, that no sovereign in the world could boast of such a palace chapel. Such as San Marco, really had to brag, except for the guild, but Saint-Chapel Louis IX was still out of competition, and not only thanks to an incredible architectural perfection. It was the sacred space of a special status, one of its kind grandiose reliquary for the storage of the most important shrines of the Christian world.

In this collection, consecrated and exalted the power of Louis, there were not only the next particles of the Cross of the Lord and Bethlehem nursery. If you believe the medieval sources, there was, for example, a non-manual image (the same, "mandilion", the Holy Deck - a towel with a wonderfully imprinted Face of Christ). There was a spear of Longgin - the relic of the Calval Drama, which caused a special thrill in the medieval consciousness. And there was an alleged thorns of the Savior's crown, it is already known exactly.

"Louis IX peaks justice." Miniature from the handwritten book Guillaume de Saint-Putu "Life and Wonders of St. Louis." 1330-1340, France. National Library of France (BNF)

These treasures of Louis did not find a wonderful way in the abandoned temple, did not receive a gift from a generous alien ruler, did not conquer in battle. Everything is much pragmatic. The unlucky Latin Emperor Baldown II FLANDERS, RUB in the captured Crusaders of Constantinople, was forced to somehow reduce the ends with the ends, lay the Veniceians who belonged to his holding the Byzantine predecessors of the shrine, including a crown. Louis Sveti bought them for 135 thousand livres. For comparison: to build a Saint-Chapel at the same time for a record short time, 40 thousand and another 100 thousand king cost the creation of a huge, three-meter height, a precious ark, where the relics were placed. This ark was not preserved, he was remembered during the Great French Revolution. But there are many objects related to the biography of Louis IX himself and his posthumous veneration (including documents of the canonization process), with the liturgical practice of St. Chapel, his favorite temple brainchild, and in general, who reflected that era in all its Gothic splendor and with all strange Weavers: Dazzling Ideal of Power and Bedroom Fees, Scholastic School and Neoplatonic Mystic, Askey and Courtful Culture.

"Louis Holy". Wooden sculpture. Paris, National Museum of the Middle Ages (Clean Museum) RMN-Grand Palais (Musée de Cluny - Musée National Du Moyen-âge) / Franck Raux

These things and show the museums of the Kremlin at their exhibition. Most of 75 exhibits were brought from France: from the Louvre, the National Museum of the Middle Ages (Klyuchni), the National Library. A number of particularly fragile, poorly carrying distant voyage works of the XIII century (carved bone, Limoges Enamel) released the State Hermitage to Moscow. But the most sensational exhibits are provided by the French side. In the artistic sense, the main decoration of the exhibition is fragments of the original stained glass windows of Saint-Chapel. In the sense of sacral - reliquary for storing a thorns crown, the truth is not medieval, and the post-revolutionary, Napoleonic times, a modest, but reminder of the pious ambitions of the Holy Louis, in his gathering the shrines considered themselves the successor of the emperors of Byzantium. As well as those who lived in the Kremlin, Moscow.

For the first time, France left the famous stained glass windows of Saint-Chapel, the ancient manuscripts, a reliquary of the throat crown and many other unique objects, supplemented in the Kremlin with works of art and the artifacts of that era from their own collection, Hermitage and other great museums.

7th Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art

New Tretyakovka

Changing the leadership of Biennale caused a lot of disputes and curvators, but judged, as you know, on affairs. And the main project of the current view under curability, returned us at the time of the most successful of all Biennale held in the capital, - the third in a row, held in the space of the Bakhmetiev garage in 2009 (supervised it). The exhibition of Hacegawa about a meeting of two worlds - classics and topical authors of contemporary art - showed an impressive block of works, united and poeticized international exhibition trends and gently fit into the context of the art of the 20th century from the collection of new Tretyakov.

Moscow Museum of Contemporary Art

A two-part project of a collector, deployed in the halls of the Moscow Museum of Contemporary Art this fall, discovered personal, painstakingly assembled for almost a quarter of a century, and a large reservoir of painters experiments who did not fit into a slim choir of mass propaganda and striking in the USSR for formalism. Shevchenko, Barto, Istriser, Fonvizin, Rusakov, Udaltsova, Yermilova-Platov, Greenberg - names of only some of them.

Yekaterinburg

Ekaterinburg claims the role of the cultural capital and is quite deserved. This year, at least two impressive exhibition projects were held here - a blockbuster, which gave an exhaustive picture of the Russian avant-garde based on things from the collections of seven Russian museums, and already familiar to many biennical reviews. Of the many biennale of contemporary art, held this year in Russia, the 4th Ural (Commissioner, the curator of the main project Joan Ribas) presented to the public the highest level of projects, their conceptual unity (including the brilliantly prepared Art Residence Program) and the deep understanding of the claimed topic "New literacy."

GMI named A. S. Pushkin, Moscow

A large retrospective, which united under the sign of the two metropolitan museums - the Tretyakov Gallery and the Jewish Museum and the Center for Tolerance. The last time the Tretyakovka showed the works of Lisar Lisitsky in 1990, but only from what was in its own funds. Now the Basel's Art Gallery Museum, Moritskburg Art Gallery, Van Abbe Museum in Eindhoven, Museum of Standelek in Amsterdam, Paris Parkido Museum and National Art Museum of Azerbaijan and the National Museum of Art of Azerbaijan are attracted to the project. And even though the exhibition is not the most valuable items from the private archive of this master of the Russian avant-garde, designer, architect, the inventor of the Belun, transferred by His Son in the Shprengel Museum in Hannover, the exhibition turned out to be a grand.

"Winter Palace and Hermitage in 1917. The story was created here. "

State Hermitage, St. Petersburg

From numerous exhibitions dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution, the Hermitage has opened later than all and was, perhaps the most penetrated. The post-revolutionary history of the Great Museum and its collections here again turned into a bloody-red - this is the main color of the scale exposure, which every visitor will be held by the Wille-Neil. Through the faces of the royal family and museum employees here tell a heavy story, which is undoubtedly everyone.
