Building
Prince N. Shakhovskaya, who placed the beginning of the Nizhny Novgorod Theater, rebuilt under his placement one of his houses (today in its place is the corpus of the River School named after Kulibin). The location of the new theater on a large Pokrovskaya Street was marked in terms of the city by Nikolai I, but to buy land for construction for a long time did not succeed due to lack of funds in the city budget. Due to the irregularity of the deposit of rental payments, the son of Bugrova in 1862 raised the issue of exempting real estate and selling it. A year later, the new owner died, and the theater again settled in the same building. This time, the grandson of Bugrov expressed discontent about the "misuse" use of the house of his grandfather, but, being the largest homeowner, the patron of the city of the city Duma and the secular leader of the Nizhny Novgorod Old Believer community, he managed to make an offer from which it was impossible to refuse. For the construction of a new theater building, Nikolai Alexandrovich allocated two hundred thousand rubles. Nizhny Novgorod State Academic Theater of the Drama named after M. Gorky is one of the oldest in Russia, he is more than 200 years old. History of theater
