Exhibition of one picture (part 41 - the theme of childhood in the work of N. Bogdanov-Belsky)

This, in my opinion, the most spring picture in the work of the artist Bogdanov-Belsky allows today's material of the heading "Exhibition of One Paint" to devote the biographies of this wonderful painter for two reasons. First, the paintings of the artist are often found in my thematic selections about children, school, winter, etc., and there is no point in duplicate them here. And secondly, on the site www.bibliotekar.ru I found an excellent one in the internet of Bogdanov-Belsky's biography, written by a member of the Union of Artists of Russia, Kavaler of the Order of Charles Faberge Anatoly Peelling for the journal "Petersburg artist".
Therefore, I will be happy to quote it in the diary for you and myself.
But first I will admire the picture of the spring flood.

Nikolai Bogdanov-Belsky Cross

So much in the picture of the Sun and Heat, good mood and humor, that the picture is not associated with the flood and current media reports on the flooded villages of the Urals, the Volgograd region, the Stavropol Territory and the Baltic States.

Nikolai Bogdanov-Belsky Self-portrait 1915

Russian Movie Artist.
Nikolai, the extramarital son of the batturi, was born in the village of Shopovto (in one of the biographies, another village is indicated - Citici) Smolensk province.
When baptized, he was recorded by Bogdanov, i.e. - by God by God. And Belsky, he later became subsequently attaching the name of his native county to the last name. The childhood was harsh, as they lived with her mother in the uncle's house, where they endured them from grace.
The first two years he studied in his native village. A priest taught at school. With his assistance, the boy and came to S. A. Rachinsky. It was a legendary personality. Professor of biology, a rich man who had an estate, he left the department and organized an exemplary social school in the village of Tatevo, where he took the learning of disadvantaged guys.
Therefore, the picture of the artist "on the threshold of the school" (or at the door of the school) (1897, the State Russian Museum) is practically autobiographical.

To get to this school, the boy had to withstand the exam. The exam for little Nicolas, as it will later be respectfully called S. A. Rachinsky, was that he had to draw one of the school teachers in the profile. The portrait-drawing was surprisingly recognized and accepted by S. Rachinsky national school in the village of Tatevo.

Rachinsky became a man in his life, thanks to whom the fate of the artist took place. Myself Nikolai Petrovich often said: "... Rachinsky brought me on the road. Life teacher. I am all obliged to everyone. " Subsequently, the portrait of Rachinsky will be written in the picture "Sunday reading at school" (1895, State Russian Museum).

Nikolai Bogdanov-Belsky Sunday reading in rural school 1895

"Little boy," the artist recalled, "I painted our bell tower on trial, and then Dyachka. They said: and Deacon, and the bell tower is exactly like real. "
Thirteen-year old, Rachinsky gave Nikolai in Trinity-Sergiev Lavra - a monastery, where there was a drawing school. In the monastery, a teenager with enthusiasm wrote icons, as well as from nature portraits of monks. Rachinsky outlined him from his 25 rubles a month for the content. It was a lot of money at the time.

The boy's successes were such that they spoke about talent. In Trinity-Sergiye Lavra, he stayed two years. Rachinsky then defined it in the Moscow School of Painting, Drainies and Architecture. He walked around the class of landscape, making great successes. For sketches from nature, the first numbers often received. He had glorious Russian artists: V. D. Polenov, V. E. Makovsky and I. M. Sanidishnikov.
The moment came to writing the graduation (thesis) picture on the title of "Classroom Artist". He loved the landscape, but from the inside something pointed to another.
With such uncertain feelings, he leaves the village of Tatevo and meets Rachinsky. Rachinsky in a conversation with young men pursues him on the topic "Future Inok". The future artist was so fascinated by the theme, the picture that before the end of the work fell into fainting.

Success among others, children in the folk school gave a huge inspiration to the author. The days of departure to Moscow were approaching, in the school, but the artist suddenly was angry. What I'm lucky, he thought, because everyone is waiting for a landscape from me.
The day of departure came. "Future Inoka" was loaded into Sani. A farewell view of S. A. Rachinsky, who came out on the porch at home. Horse touched. The last words of an expensive teacher for farewell: "Happy way, Nicolas!" Sali sang in the frost and easily rushed along the road listed on the snow ... It was hard for the soul from parting minutes with an expensive teacher, and some embarrassment, bitterness burned heart. Why, where and what am I lucky with me? His rushed in the heat. And Sani mits into the unknownness inevitably. The future artist was thinking on the road: "How it would be good if the picture had died, lost. Isn't it so? " ... and lost the picture. Long then the cab driver was returned, after all, they found it and safely delivered to the place.

As the artist himself recalled: "Well, started at the School of Kurthma!"
"Future ink" is the work that he presented to the title of "class artist", over all expectations had a huge success. She was approved by examiners and bought from the exhibition Kozma Terentyevich Soldatenkov, the largest collector of works of art, and then he was inflicted by Empress Maria Fedorovna. Immediately the artist ordered two more repeats of the picture.
In January 1891, the picture was presented in the exhibition of a mobile exhibition in Kiev.
After visiting the exhibition, the artist M. V. Nesterov writes in a letter to his relatives:
"... But Vasnetsov agrees that Bogdanov-Belsky will still be salt at exhibition for a long time, but it should not be confused ..."
From now on, the artist begins to live for his funds. At that time he was 19 years old.
In the future, the artist decisive in the work will be the topic of childhood.

In 1890, the artist comes a trip to Constantinople and Athos.
On Athos, 19-year-old Bogdanov-Belsky meets 17-year-old Malyavina, which is engaged in icon painting.
In 1894 - 1895 N. P. Bogdanov-Belsky continues to learn paintings in the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts in I. E. Repin.
For money reversed for the picture "Sunday reading" (1895, the State Russian Museum), he rides in Paris, where he painted in Studios F. Kormon and F. Kolasrasi.
He then works in Munich and Italy.

The name N. P. Bogdanov-Belsky in Russia becomes widely known after writing them pictures "Oral Account" (1896, State Tretyakov Gallery) and "At the School Doors" (1897, State Russian Museum).
The Bogdanov-Belsky palette is enriched, the flavor increases. Undoubtedly, this happens after his stay and study abroad.
The artist writes landscapes, portraits, still lifes, genre paintings. Writes aristocrats, famous contemporaries, Emperor Nicholas II (1904 - 1908), Empress Maria Fedorovna, Grand Prince Dmitry Pavlovich (1902), Prince F. F. Yusupova (1911), F. I. Shalyapin (1916) and others.
He often comes from the native village of Tatevo, where he had a workshop, in St. Petersburg. Here he lives for a long time, fulfilling orders, and then, earning the funds, returns to himself.
"I spent so many years in the village," the artist said, "so close to a rural school, so often observed the peasant children, so loved them for the immediacy, the givingness that they became the heroes of my paintings."

At this time, the paintings written by them are acquired from exhibitions to the largest meetings, including the Tretyakov Gallery.

After the 1917 revolution, the lives of realist artists becomes the most difficult.
At the invitation of his friend, the famous artist Sergei Vinogradov, Nikolai Petrovich in 1921 moved to live in Riga. From this time, a new, twenty-year period of development of his talent (1921-1941) begins.
In Riga, a famous artist, a student of A. I. Kindji, a graduate of the Academy of Arts - V.-k. Y. Purvit. He helps N. P. Bogdanov-Belsky to organize a personal exhibition in the museum (at the end of December 1921 - January 1922), which contains 52 works, many of which are purchased right at the exhibition.
The artist with hobby is working on the Cycle of Pictures "Children of Latgale", writes landscapes of Latvia.
In 1923 his second personal exhibition is held in the walls of the same museum. Again success. Later, the artist's exhibition in the Riga City Art Museum will be held in 1936 and 1940.

Bogdanov-Belsky continues to actively participate in exhibitions of Russian visual art abroad.
Twice it is set in Paris - in the Magelan galleries (1921) and D'Aligan (1931).
At the first Soviet exhibition in America - in New York, in Grand Central Palace in 1924, the artist put more than ten of his paintings. As noted by the press of those years, together with the works of I. Grabar, B. Kustodiev, M. Nesterova, S. Vinogradova, V. Polenova, K. John and other famous artists, they made a bright, colorful sight of Russian art.
At the largest exhibition in Prague in 1928, the success of Russian artists is huge. Bogdanov-Belsky had 9 works purchased, one of them was acquired by the Prague National Gallery.
In 1929, at the exhibition of Russian painting in Copenhagen, the entire first room was assigned to the works of Bogdanov-Belsky. Many reproductions of his paintings decorate the Pages of Danish printing.
Foreign exhibitions N. P. Bogdanov-Belsky also passed in Pittsburgh (1925), Amsterdam (1930), Berlin (1930) and Belgrade (1930).

When in 1928, the artist turned 60 years old, he came a lot of congratulatory letters, telegrams. I. E. Repin sent an enthusiastic letter from his student from Koookel, he rejoices his successes. In 1936, Bogdanov-Belsky celebrates fifty years of creative life.
In April 1941, Bogdanov-Belsky sends a picture of the "Shepherd Pleash" to the exhibition (1939).
The past did not find, but found a horse of the same year. Or maybe this is the same picture?

Nikolai Petrovich Bogdanov was born in 1868 in one of the villages of the Belsky County of Smolensk province. His mother was a simple peasant with a raising son alone. The distress position of the mother would not allow the child to receive a good education, but another fate fell.

After graduation, a literacy at the local church ringing of the boy noted S.A. Rachinsky - Professor of Moscow University and the founder of schools for peasant children. Rachinsky taught Nicholas painting and drawing, and then sent to study to icon painters.

The first success of the young man at the exhibition (his picture acquired a collector) contributed to his further artistic career. Thanks to the content of Rachinsky, the young Nicholas received an education at first in the Moscow Art School (he studied at and spinning), and then continued to improve his skills at the Academy of Arts, after in Italy, Germany and France. By the way, it was at the Bogdanov Academy received a double surname. When the Emperor Nicholas II signed his diploma to assign the degree of academician, he added to his name "Belsky" to his surname.

The artist was part of several large societies, such as society them. , Society of Mobile. In 1914, he became a valid member of the Academy of Arts.

The painter portrayed mostly the plots from the life of ordinary people, created portraits and landscapes. Examples of its famous pictures: "Oral account", "Sunday reading in rural school", "in the church", "at the door of the school", "future ink".

Without accepting the revolution, Bogdanov-Belsky emigrated to Latvia, where his work bloomed with a new force. He died in 1945 at the age of 76.

Direction of creativity Masters

Nikolai Petrovich was a multifaceted artist. He wrote portraits, still lifes and landscapes, but especially loved to work on genre paintings.

Since the painter had portraits perfectly, noble parties were often treated. He wrote many famous people, for example, Tsarist Poor Nikolai II and Maria Fedorovna, Prince Yusupova, Singer Fedor Shalyapin and many others. Although the customers remained very satisfied with their portraits, Bogdanov-Belsky performed such work mainly for money. To this end, he lealed from his beloved village in the St. Petersburg workshop, collected orders and worked.

As soon as a sufficient amount was accumulated, the artist returned to his native expanses and there he already wrote what was in the heart. And the life of ordinary people, especially children inspired him the strongest. Nikolai Petrovich did not cease to be surprised by children's vitality and talents. He loved children with all his heart, and they loved him. The guys willingly came to him, put on the best shirts, and were ready to pose a clock for hours.

Bogdanov-Belsky refers to the number of famous animal artists, whose works went to the largest collections. In particular, they bought them for his gallery Pavel Tretyakov.

Records Sales, price of paintings by Bogdanov-Belsky

Nikolai Petrovich is considered a successful artist, whose works willingly acquired representatives of the highest estate. But the question arises how much the paintings of Bogdanov-Belsky are in our time. Do they imagine the same value as before? Consider some large sales at well-known auctions.

In the period from 2007 to 2013 With the hammer, several works of the artist in the price range of 550-700 thousand dollars were sold. For example, in 2013 on Sotheby`s for 647 thousand dollars, the canvas "Children of Piano", written by the author about 1907 and 1920s.

In this creative period, he worked at the dacha "Seagull", where workshops for local children were opened. Bogdanov-Belsky was amazed at how many children will comprehend knowledge, and often portrayed them for different classes: a game on piano, reading, learning arithmetic and so on. The plot with the game on the piano artist drew several times. In addition to the versions put on the auction, there are two more, which differ from each other with small details.

In 2009, the picture "Symphony" took place in the same auction house for 561 thousand dollars, created by the author allegedly in the same period of activity. The cloth was exposed several times at various exhibitions: in 1921 in Riga, in 1930 in Berlin and in 2008 again in Riga.

In 2007, another picture of Bogdanov-Belsky took another picture on Sotheby`s. This product "Spring", written by the author after moving to Riga. Portrait of a spouse ordered the owner of the yacht club Mr. August Bauman, with whom the artist had friendly relations. The portrait was written in 1925 and was kept by Bauman. In 1932, the canvas presented at the exhibition in the Riga Art Museum.

Finally, the most expensive is the sale of the painting "Reading in the Garden" in 2006, all on the same Sotheby`s. The work was completed around 1915 and hit the cover of the St. Petersburg magazine "Capital and Manor" (issue 31, 1915). It was the so-called magazine of a beautiful life, published in a large format on the best paper, in the creation of which the best photographers and famous scientists took part. From 1917 to 2001, the picture was in the collection of Mr. Ziedonis Ligers.

Probably, these facts caused a record sale. Estimate canvas amounted to only 250-350 thousand dollars, but during trading the price reached 1.44 million dollars.

We disassembled examples of the largest sales of works by the artist. Note that the canvas of the artist regularly appear at the auction of various auction houses. In their archives, you can find many examples of more modest care. For example, "still life with lilac" was sold for 146 thousand dollars, "in the Winter Garden" - for 181 thousand dollars, "in the park" - for 90 thousand dollars, "after the working day" - for 48 thousand dollars. Thus, when answering as a question, how many pictures of Bogdanov-Belsky are standing today, you need to take into account many parameters from the significance of the plot of the work before it. More about this and how and where to sell the paintings of Bogdanov-Belsky we will talk further.

Examination, sale of paintings by Bogdanov-Belsky

How to appreciate the picture of Bogdanov-Belsky

An assessment of any artist's work is to begin with the study of its characteristics, the history of creation and storage. Characteristics need to be known in order to appreciate the picture of Bogdanov-Belsky with a benchmark on the work of the same style, directions and sizes. Since the catalogs of famous auctions have data on sales of other canvases, you can focus on them.

Often, the picture of the picture is influenced by the history of its creation or further movement. For example, the canvas can refer to the rare creativity of the author, it can be written for an important person, it could be published in a famous magazine, to submit at the popular exhibition and so on. The brighter the story, the more you can ask for the canvas.

When assessing the work of art, experts recommend to remain realists and not to expect a multi-million dollar sale only on the grounds that some other pictures of the artist cost so much. The success of some record sales can be explained by a crossing of several circumstances at once: growing interest in Russian art or a specific author, the desire of the auction participants to get a specific picture or simply win the auction battle, the special value of the picture and so on.

The artist who came out of the people. He was able to get out "in people", not the pool in the bench in the conditions granted to him. Man is hardworking and strong in spirit - this was Nikolai Petrovich Belsky.

Childhood

The illegally born child of the impoverished peasant, forced to raise and develop in cramped conditions. Born in the village of Schopotovo Smolensk province. In the church he was painted Bogdanov, that is, by God. Personally added the last name of Belsky subsequently, for consuming frauds in the environment of artists. Not hash, property and money, they lived for many years in the estate of Mama Brother.

Two classes studied at the local school. The priest who taught in children noted the talented boy and highlighted his admission to the exemplary national school, which was led by S. A. Rachinsky. Sergey Aleksandrovich, Russian Academic and Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences, left its main activities and, wanting to help disadvantaged children, organized for them in the village of Tataevo school. A large influx of children from all over the Smolensk province forced the founder to introduce an exam, which would help him choose intelligent and capable guys.

Admission to Tataevo

The young book, an acceleratively waiting for the beginning of the exam, understood that this test was a road to life. From how it will pass it, will depend much. And now the long-awaited moment came! The child is asked to go beyond the desk, explain that he needs to portray a profile of one of the teachers. Childish puffy, trying to display important details of the image and give the volume picture, the little nicolas drew from nature. Finally, the children's handcap transmits work to the court of adults. Excavative moments of waiting ... came! In 1897, a picture "on the threshold of the school" will be created, the autobiography of the artist about the beginning of his creative path.

Study in Moscow

Nikolay Petrovich believed that Rachinsky "gave him the way to life ...". The favorite of the scientist, he was given to the school of drawing at the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, receiving 25 rubles (huge money at the time!) Monthly. Two years later, the young talent was defined in the Moscow School of Painting, Scarying and Architecture. Teachers said that he was good both in the landscape and in the portrait. A rare painter is able to professionally draw people and nature at the same time.

It's time for writing the graduation work. Suddenly the Creator illuminates the idea that it is necessary to change the genre and give something special. Leaving in Tatevo for the advice of Rachinsky. He pushes him to the idea of \u200b\u200bthe "future ink". The process boiled, the creativity poured a stream ... work is ready! "But how can I be lucky?" "I thought the author," because everyone is waiting for a landscape from me. " To retreat late, it's time to go back!

Endless doubts overwhelmed Nicolas, but they were in vain. The picture was perceived on "Hurray"! Almost immediately she was purchased by K. D. Soldatenkov, one of the most famous collectors of that time. The highest light asked to release copies, everyone wanted to have such a well-known instance in his house. Exhibitions with her participation go one after another. But what "ink" loved a wide circle of spectators? On canvas depicted a thin young man, leading a conversation with a wanderer. A dreamy view from under the inflammation is rushed into the distance. What is in his thoughts? We do not know. It remains only to be amazed with the exact images of the Mimici of the child, the life of the peasants and the simplicity of their lives. Work is largely autobiographical, the theme of childhood will be decisive in his work. She became a turning point in the artist's work. In her 19 years he was able to exist on his own money, being supporting the family.

First half of creative life

From now on, he travels in his spare time, looking for inspiration. So the author visited Constantinople and in Afone, Paris and Munich, in many other places. At the same time, continued to learn, taking the experience of Repin, Kormon and Kolasrasi. The manner of the letter changes, the palette becomes more rich. He writes the front portraits of eminent personalities, landscapes, fully given to creativity. At the age of 35, he was elected to academician painting, in 45 - a valid member of the Academy of Arts.

The second half of creative life. Moving to Riga

"Light" times in the country are coming. A close friend calls him to himself in Riga. There comes the peak of the author's popularity. Thanks to an infinite number of exhibitions in which his work participates, Nikolai Petrovich is recognized on the streets, his work is in demand. In the center of everything is worth the topic of childhood. Nicolas himself repeatedly said that children are the most direct creatures. Their kindness, the purity of the perception of the world and sincerity is laid by nature. Portraits of smiling kids fell into European museums and private collections. So it lasted 20 years, until the war came. Nicolas fell ill, he had to postpone a complex operation in Germany. He will live for another four years, until February 19, 1945 will die of bombs falling on Berlin.

Since 18 years old, Bogdanov-Belsky began to live with his work.

"Everything was resurrected in the soul than I lived for many years of childhood and adolescence in the village ..."

Bogdanov-Belsky or "Bogdasha", as the name of his comrades, was a very kind and cheerful man. Especially much attention and love was given to peasant children, for whom in the deep pockets of his deep jacket there was always a large number of candy and nuts. And the children, having learned him closer, welcomed especially warmly, asking at the same time: "And when we write we will, we are always happy to stand for you and can come to you in new shoes."

New fairy tale. 1891

In his persistent desire to write children, the world of childhood, where everything is truly, without a lucavism and falsehood, also clearly visible:

"If ... you won't be like children, do not enter the kingdom of heaven."

And the surrounding on this appeal responded. Already being a master Bogdanov-Belsky received a letter from one teacher:

"You are one of us! Many artists know how to write children, he can write in defense of children only ... "

In 1920, Bogdanov-Belsky leaves for Petrograd, and from there in Latvia. Wife persuaded the border of Bogdanov-Belsky. He lealed to the snow, leaving most of his things and paintings to store local residents. Whether Bogdanov-Belsky himself believed in his return, it is difficult to say, but the reasons that prompted him to leave their homeland were, of course, much deeper than his wife's persuasion.

For the characteristics of creativity, the deep National and original artist Nikolai Petrovich Bogdanov-Belsky, most art historians use the epithet "peasant" (for example, a peasant artist). But he was primarily a talented painter who was trained in the best art institutions and from wonderful teachers. For the "illegitous son of a poor bobobi" (the words of the artist himself) studied at the beginning in the icon-painted workshop at the Trinity-Sergiyev Lavra (1882-1883), further in the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in V. Polenov, V. Makovsky, I. Sanishnikova (1884-1889), at the Academy of Arts in I. Repin. In Paris, attended the studio of French teachers F. Kormon and F. Kolarasi.
