Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky - the famous Russian painter-marinist, author more than six thousand canvases. Professor, Academician, Petshenate, Honorary Member of Art Academies of St. Petersburg, Amsterdam, Rome, Stuttgart, Paris and Florence.

A future artist was born in Feodosia, in 1817, in the family of Gevorork and Ripsema Gaivazovsky. Mother Hovhannes (Armenian version of the name John) was an Armenian thoroughbred, and his father was descended from Armenians who migrated from Western Armenia, which happened under the rule of the Turks, Galicia. In Feodosia, Gevork settled under the name of Gaivazovsky, writing it to the Polish manner.

Ovansa's father was an amazing person, enterprising, smeared. Dad knew Turkish, Hungarian, Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, and even Gypsy languages. In Crimea, Gevork Aivazyan, who became Konstantin Grigorievich Gaivazovsky, very successfully engaged in trade. At the time of Theodosius grew rapidly, acquiring the status of an international port, but success enterprising merchant has reduced to zero the plague that broke out after the war.

By the time of the birth of Ivan, Gaivazovsky was already the son of Sargis, who took the name of Gabriel in monastics, then three more daughters were born, but the family lived in great need. The mother repression helped her husband, selling his skillful embroidery. Ivan Rased and a dreamy child. In the morning he woke up and ran to the beach, where he could spend hours watching the entrance to the port of ships, small fishing boats, other admiring the extraordinary beauty of the scenery sunsets, storms and calms.

The boy wrote his first paintings on the sand, and after a few minutes they was washed off with surf. Then he armed with a piece of coal and decorated with the pictures of the white walls of the house where Gaivazovsky lived. Father looked, frowning his son's masterpieces, but he did not turn him out, but firmly thought. From ten years Ivan worked in a coffee shop, helping the family, which did not prevent him from growing a smart and talented child.

As a child, Aivazovsky himself learned to play the violin, and, of course, constantly painted. The fate brought him to the Feodosi architect Yakov Koh, and this moment is considered to be a turning point, determining in the biographies of the future ingenious marinist. Noticing the artistic abilities of the boy, Koh supplied the young artist with pencils, paints and paper, gave the first drawing lessons. The second patron of Ivana became the Grador of Feodosia Alexander Treaschaev. The governor rated the skillful game of Vanya on the violin, because he himself often musitis.

In 1830, Treaschairs identified Aivazovsky to Simferopol gymnasium. In Simferopol, the wife of the Tauride Governor Natalia Naryshkin drew attention to the talented child. Ivan began to often have at her house, and the secular lady provided his library at his disposal, a collection of engravings, books about painting, art. The boy worked incentively, copied the famous works, painted etudes, sketches.

With the assistance of the portraitist of Salvator Tonchi Naryshkin, he turned to Olenin, the President of the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, with a request to arrange a boy at the Academy with a full board. In a letter, she described the talents of Aivazovsky in detail, his life situation and attached drawings. Olenin rated the talent of the young man, and soon Ivan was enrolled in the Academy of Arts with the personal enforcement of the emperor, which also saw sent pictures.

At the age of 13, Ivan Aivazovsky became the most young student of the Academy in the Landscape class Vorobyov. An experienced teacher immediately estimated the entire magnitude and power of the talent of the Aivazovsky and as much as possible gave the young man a classic art education, a kind of theoretical and practical basis for painter-virtuoso, which Ivan Konstantinovich had soon became.

A very quickly quick student surpassed the teacher, and Vorobyov recommended Aivazovsky Philippe Tanner, a French marinist who arrived in St. Petersburg. Tanner and Aivazovsky did not compare the characters. The Frenchman dumped the student all the draft work, but Ivan still found time for his own paintings.

Painting

In 1836, an exhibition was held, where the works of Tanner and young Ayvazovsky were presented. One of the works of Ivan Konstantinovich was awarded a silver medal, alone of the metropolitan newspaper also praised him, the Frenchmen were reproached in manners. Philip, burning from anger and envy, complained to the emperor on a naughty student who had no right to exhibit his work at the exhibition without the knowledge of the teacher.

Formally, the Frenchman was right, and Nikolai commanded to remove the pictures from the exhibition, and Ivazovsky himself fell into disgrace at the court. The talented artist supported the best minds of the capital, with whom he managed to bring acquaintance:, President of the Academy of Olenin. As a result, the case was decided in favor of Ivan, for which Alexander Zaerweed, who taught painting with imperial siblings.

Nikolai awarded Aivazovsky and even sent him together with his son Konstantin to the Baltic Fleet. Cesarevich studied the foundations of the sea and the guidance of the fleet, and Aivazovsky specialized in the artistic side of the question (it is difficult to write battle scenes and ships, not knowing their devices).

Aivazovsky fell a happy fate to drive acquaintance and even friendship with many outstanding people of that era. The artist was closely familiar with, Nikolai Raevsky, Kiprensky, Bryullov, Zhukovsky, not to mention friendship with the imperial family. And yet tie, wealth, glory did not seduce the artist. The main in his life was always a family, ordinary people, a favorite job.

Picture of Ivan Aivazovsky "Chesmensky fight"

Rake and becoming famous, Ivazovsky made a lot for his native Feodosia: founded the school of arts and the art gallery, the museum of antiquities, sponsored the construction of the railway, the city water supply, which was nuts from his personal source. At the end of the life of Ivan K. remained as active and active as a young man: his wife visited America, a lot of work, helping people, doing charity work, landscaping hometown and teaching.

Personal life

Personal life of a great painter is full of ups and falls. There were three love in his fate, three women. The first love of Aivazovsky - a dancer from Venice, the world celebrity Maria Taloni, was older than 13 years. The artist in love went for his muse in Venice, but the relationship was short: the dancer chose the love of the young man ballet.

In 1848 Ivan Konstantinovich on the big love married Julia Graves, the daughter of an Englishman, a former court physician Nicholas I. Young went to Feodosia, where he played a magnificent wedding. In this marriage, Aivazovsky had four daughters: Alexander, Maria, Elena and Zhanna.

In the photo, the family looks happy, but Idylli was short. After the birth of the daughters of the spouse changed in the character, moved the nervous disease. Julia wanted to live in the capital, come on balls, to give soirees, to lead a secular life, and the artist's heart belonged to Feodosia and ordinary people. As a result, the marriage ended in divorce, which at the time it happened infrequently. With difficulty, the artist managed to maintain relations with his daughters and their families: a grumpy wife set up girls against the father.

Last love the artist has already met in old age: in 1881 he was 65 years old, and his chosen is only 25 years old. Anna Nikitichna Sarkizov became the spouse of Aivazovsky in 1882 and was with him until the very end. Her beauty is immortalized by his spouse in the picture of the artist's wife.

Black Sea (1881)

This is a mature work created by him in the 64-year-old age. At first, the marinist called the picture "The storm begins to play on the Black Sea," shining later to the "Black Sea". Even the most animated critics, contemporaries of creativity of Aivazovsky, who considered that the romanticism came to be highly spoke about this canvas.

Ivanovsky Ivan Konstantinovich (Gaivazovsky) - Son of the Armenian entrepreneur. Born in Feodosia in 1817, it was also died in 1900. He studied at the Academy of Arts of St. Petersburg at M.N. Vorobyva and F.Tanner (French Marinist). He worked in the Crimea as the "pensioner" of the Academy (1830-1840), at the same time visited England, France and several more countries.

Another picture written in the best years of the creativity of Aivazovsky. This period is art historians call "blue". The artist's work series reads a special manner of performance, which appeared at the marinist after 1870.

In each of the works of Aivazovsky, romanticism is felt. These are the trends of that time - to move away from the ordinary and plunge into the world outside the gray everyday life. Aivazovsky managed sea battles and image of the elements. Art historians with hardness in the voice say that the artist's cloths are the most emotional masterpieces of the 19th century.

Aivazovsky 81 year. He moves away from the usual ships, small figures. Now all his attention occupies the sea. The artist ordered several more works in these years, but this particular work is considered to be the main heritage of Aivazovsky. He left a picture of his beloved Feodosia, where she is still located.

The artist traveled a lot not only in Russia, but also in Europe, visited the Mediterranean. Since 1845, mostly lived and worked in Feodosia. Back in the 1840s, thanks to the accuracy and speed of the brush, as well as the emotional mood and attraction to the heroic spirit of the paintings earned worldwide fame. He became an academician in 1845, a professor in 1847, an honorary member of the Academy of Arts in 1887.

Aivazovsky was born and lived in Feodosia periods, so she is paid so much attention. This is one of the most calm works of the artist.

Not bypassed his influence of French masters of the sea scenery K. Master and E.Lorren. Over time, getting rid of sudden contrasts and the "sore" composition, he acquires genuine picturesque freedom. This is especially felt in his image of the endless and violent relics of the element of the sea, in his sunsets and coming to the waves of the Light of the Moon, in the courage of people who fought with the marine element ("The Ninth Val", which we will talk a little later).

Aivazovsky always created his best masterpieces quickly - he was required of the strength of 2 days. Especially when the work was done on inspiration, and not commissioned, it turned out best. A marine started with a quick sketch indicating the main elements and light sources. And then he went to the workshop and was already restored by memory every shade. That is how the work "Sea. Koktebel bay. "

In his works, the striking combination of brightness and tonal unity, subtle solutions of lighting and, of course, everlasting charming water. Aivazovsky has written more than 6,000 paintings for his life, and many more watercolors and drawings.

One of the best paintings of the "blue" period.

Because since 1844, the painter at the Main Maritime Staff, took part in maritime companies. His canvas: "Storm on the Black Sea", "Georgievsky Monastery", "Chesmensky Fight", "Entrance to the Sevastopol Bay" - sheaven with the spirit of majestic heroic. Ivan Aivazovsky and landscapes wrote, the Caucasian and Ukrainian and Ukrainian and religious topics were especially interesting, and a number of their works devoted to the history of Armenia.

Battle canvas with the image of the ship of Russian flotilla. Despite the overall drama of the story point, Aivazovsky was proud of Russian sailors who managed to win in this difficult battle. "Chesmensky fight" refers to the early period of the creativity of Marinist.

As a human man, Aivazovsky is also known as a benefactor, actively helped the town of Feodosia, where you can most fully get acquainted with his work in the art gallery wearing his name.

Aivazovsky briefly left his relatives feodosius. Even when St. Petersburg opened all the doors with the titles, glory and money, mariny to the whole soul rushed home to the sea.

The axis in the house on the coast, the artist remained forever was devoted to the sea. It has become his muse and the main character for paintings. Constantly communicating with the sailors, the artist knew about superstitions that lived in their circles. He knew about the fatal ninth wave, which was carried by the courts only death.

From the first days of exhibition shows, the picture turned into a masterpiece. In the same year, Nikolai I bought it for the Hermitage. Today, the "ninth shaft" is Aivazovsky. This is the best and most famous work.

Looking at the paintings by Aivazovsky, with the image of St. Petersburg, usually recall that Peter I founded this city as a seaport. The artist liked his fortifications, bays, embankments. But not when there is a look at this canvas, cold and intense. With his first wife, Aivazovsky divorced, they say, just because of hostility to St. Petersburg and secular life: she wanted to live in the capital and rotate in society, and he preferred Crimea and work.

July 29, 1817, the artist Ivan Aivazovsky was born. Now, when the value of the painting is easy to measure its price, Aivazovsky can be called one of the most significant Russian painters. Look at the 7th famous pictures of the Feodosi artist.

"View of Constantinople and Bosphorus" (1856)

In 2012, a new record for paintings by Russian Marinist was installed at the British Auction Sotheby's. Canvas titled "View of Constantinople and the Bosphorus" was sold for 3.23 million pounds, which translates to more than RUR 153 million.
An appointed Admiralty artist in 1845, Aivazovsky visited Istanbul and Islands of the Greek Archipelago as part of the Mediterranean Geographical Expedition. The capital of the Ottoman Empire made an indelible impression on the artist. For a few days of stay, he did dozens of sketches, many of which have formed the basis of future paintings. More than 10 years of memory, like most of their webs, Ivan Aivazovsky restored the view of the Constantinople port and Topkhan Mosque Nusrey.

"American Courts of the Rock of Gibraltar" (1873)

Until April 2012 the most expensive paintings by Ivan Aivazovsky was work "American ships at the rock of Gibraltar", which was sold in 2007, Christie's auction for 2.708 million pounds.
This picture Aivazovsky also wrote in memory. "The movements of the living elements are elusive for the brush: to write zipper, impulse wind, a wave splash is unthinkable with nature. To this end, the artist and must memorize them, and these accidents, as well as the effects of light and shadows, to furnish his painting "- as the artist formulated his creative method.
The Gibraltar Rock was written by Aivazovsky 30 years after he visited the British colony. Waves, ships, sailors fighting with the elements, the pink cliff itself - the fruit of the artist's fantasy worked in his quiet workshop in Feodosia. But, invented, the landscape looks truthfully.

"Varyags on the Dnieper" (1876)

The third place among the commercial success of Ayvazovsky occupies the picture of "Varyags on the Dnieper", which went out of the hammer in 2006 for 3 million 300 thousand dollars.
The plot of the paintings is the path of Varyags on the main trade artery of Kievan Rus, Dnieper. Appeal to the heroic past, rare for Aivazovsky's creativity, is a tribute to a romantic tradition. In the foreground, the picture is the rook, on which strong and brave warriors cost, and among them, apparently, the prince himself. The heroic principle of the plot is underlined by the second name of the picture: "Varyazhskaya Saga is the path from Varyag in the Greeks."

"View of Constantinople" (1852)

The fourth millionaire of the Aivazovsky brushes - "View of Constantinople", another picture, written in impressions of the trip 1845. Its price amounted to 3 million 150 thousand dollars.
Shortly after the end of the Crimean War, Aivazovsky returned from Paris, where the opening of his personal exhibition was held. The path of the artist lay through Istanbul. There he was adopted by Turkish Sultan and granted the Order of Nishan Ali IV degree. Since then, the close friendship of Aivazovsky with Constantinople has faced. He came here more than once: in 1874, 1880, 1882, 1888 and 1890. His exhibitions were held here, he met with the rulers of Turkey and received rewards from them.

"Isaac's Cathedral in a frosty day" (1891)

The picture "Isaac's Cathedral in a frosty day" was sold at Christie's auction for 2 million 125 thousand dollars in 2004. This is one of the rare urban landscapes of the Marinist artist.
The whole life of Aivazovsky was connected with Petersburg, although he lived and most of it lived in the Crimea. In St. Petersburg, he moves from Feodosia at the age of 16 to enter the Academy of Arts. Soon, thanks to his success, a young painter tying dating leading artists, writers, musicians: Pushkin, Zhukovsky, Glinka, Bryullov. At 27, he becomes academician landscape painting of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. And then, during the life, Aivazovsky regularly arrives in the capital.

"Constantinople at Zare" (1851)

Sixth place occupies another kind of Constantinople, this time "Constantinople at the dawn". It was sold in 2007 for 1 million 800 thousand dollars. This picture is the earliest of the "Constantinople millionaire" Aivazovsky.
Russian marinist soon gained recognition in Europe and America as a master landscape. His special relationship was associated with the eternal military rivals of Russia, the Turks. But friendship continued until the 90s, when Sultan Abdul-Hamid deployed in Constantinople and the Genocide against Armenians across the country. Many of the refugees were hiding in Feodosia. Aivazovsky provided them with all kinds of assistance, and the awards received from the Turkish government, demonstratively threw in the sea.

"Ninth Val" (1850)

The main theme of Aivazovsky's creativity is the confrontation of a person and the elements. His most famous canvas, the "ninth shaft" - only the seventh cost. In 2005, it was sold for 1 million 704 thousand dollars.
In the center of the plot - a few sailors who were saved during the stormy all night. She squeezed the ship in the pinch, but they, clinging to the mast, remained alive. Four hold on the mast, and the fifth in the hope clings to his friend. Sun rises, but the tests of sailors are not over: the ninth shaft is coming. A consistent romantic, Aivazovsky on this early work shows the persistence of people fighting with the elements, but powerless against it.

Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky, the real name of which sounds like "Ovanes Avazyan", was a collector and a patron, but in the first degree he is still an artist, and, most talented and outstanding in its genre.

In fact, as the artist's family, hesitated from the genocide, moved to Poland, the surname was uttered to the Polish manner of Gaivazyan, and Ivan later became Gaivazovsky. Later, he was called, what a variation and reached our days, Aivazovsky, but this man was remembered as an outstanding marine artist and a battalist. Many critics have a positively responded about his paintings, and today the top five masterpieces of Ivan Konstantinovich, composed of those artist's paintings who have gained world fame. So, the five most famous paintings by I. K. Ayvazovsky.

First place. The world famous "ninth shaft"

About this picture I made a legend. She is the best and truly stunning creation of Aivazovsky, in which he was able to transfer the entire beauty of the sea during the storm. The huge sizes of the paintings are forced to raise the eyebrows from a silent surprise, because such work, detailed and masterfully written in such a scale, not at all.

Ivan Konstantinovich wrote a web for all over eleven days, continuing the tradition of a fast letter and without changing her. The perfect construction, an outstanding plot and the very mood of the picture amazed even distant from the art of man in the streets. In the center of the picture and the composition of the composition - unfortunate, but still surviving sailors who climbed the mast, which is about to absorb the element, putting a cross on their fate. And somewhere on the horizon, the first rays of the rising sun are stuck with almost careless smears. The storm comes to an end. Cold hell retreats. Truly harmony after destruction.

Second place. Victory "Chesme Fight"

The history of Russia is gilded with the glory of many and many victories, but this is remembered by special merit. Chesme battle - episode of the Russian-Turkish war 1768-1774, thundered in the distant 1770th. It was after this battle, Count A. Orlov, one of the favorites of the government, who commanded the fleet, reported by Empress Ekaterina Great to capture control over Dardanelles.
The artist is a truly academic brush writes a bloody bureau of a bloody battle, deafening-ruthless. The enemy ships are softened, in some places they are still tremble to masts, the red glow dropping the reflections into the water; In the sky, the moon, faddy and lifeless glitters with a dragon eye. Black, as if sprinkled ashes. Color contrasts.

The canvas, oddly enough, is distinguished by its amazing calm: everything ended, sailors fold weapons and doctors wounded, celebrate victory. Life trembled, it is only to be returned to the usual cycle, although there are still four years of war ahead. Atmospheric and exclusive masterpiece.

Third place. Anxious "Rainbow"

No matter how cool, and favorite painter theme - Restless water. Storm covering scars marine smooth and ejected by the shore of maritime residents, thunder-roll, lightning glimpses in pitch darkness. Ocean romance, beautiful, but from this no less unpredictable, alien to those who do not like the sea. And the sea Aivazovsky loved like no other.
The picture shows his favorite state of the sea. The ship, dangerous to the left, is about to absorb the castle of the distraught bitter water, a couple of boats, like a tree, throws waves, forcing people sitting in them to lose the last hope for salvation. But the rainbow is overlooked in the sky. According to the Bible, the Rainbow God created in the oath no longer send a flood on his chad. Maybe this is a mysterious sign of sailors ..? Beautiful canvas with deep meaning.

Fourth place. Quiet Flooring Painting "Black Sea"

The Black Sea has always been known as a stronghold of calm. Seagulls, disseminating the dark water horizons (because of which the sea and got its name), warm, humid air, soaring the sun. The local seaside cities are known as a health resort, and there are also the defenders of their homeland, which this sea becomes a kind of Alma mater. And the attention of Ivan Konstantinovich also did not go around this picturesque corner of Russia.

The serene lifestyle is represented by the Black Sea on the painting of the artist. He brings to the perfection of the game of waves on a light breeze to perfection. Such a sea caresses the shore and pumps jellyfish, translucent in transparent water, seeking black and blue from afar. Such a sea manits to himself, promising hesitation in salty arms, but the impression is deceptive: clouds are going to, and soon it can come to this calmness.

A lonely ship on the blossie horizon floats, not leading about the impending danger. But does he avoid fission to become buried in this so far?

Fifth place. "Among the waves," impressive and amazing

This picture is placed at the end of the rating not at all because it is something worse than others: Aivazovsky does not have bad paintings. But it was precisely this chronological sequence that was later than all of the previous ones, and it is precisely it can be considered a certain, even a sign and symbolic, "creative testament" of the marinist, who found his unique style and invested his whole soul in creation.

This canvas can be called logical or, rather, the poetic continuation of the "Black Sea". Both continuing and completion. There, the storm only gives the first signs, hints at what it will soon break down, here it shows itself as an inexorable element, ready to shove the heavens themselves, dark green turquoise prescribed at the top of the painting.

A pale wave flashes can be seen, a dangerous, causing noise of water is almost heard. It's night, this is the epicenter of the spontaneous explosion. At that time, the eighty-a-year-old Konstantin Ivanovich was able to show how tragic and restless could be a storm.
