Color pencils - a universal tool that can be drawn all. They do not require special skills and are ideal for the first sketches. Selected 8 tips from the book "Diary of the Artist-Naturalist" book - try creating your first picture right now.

1. Mix colors with string

The colors of the pencils rarely correspond to the desired shade. A huge set is not output: it is hard and uncomfortable to wear, and the search for the right color takes a lot of time. Better buy the middle set and learn how to make colors. Basic colors - heavenly blue, yellow and major. Of these, you can get other shades.

Diary of an artist-naturalist

Typically, the color of the pencil is intense and rich. In the nature of tone more muted. Therefore, another plus mixing is the ability to muffle clean colors to natural shades.

2. How to stroke with layers

To learn how to stroke with layers, you need to consider two points. First, choose a slightly grain paper. Do not press the pencil too much, otherwise the paper will polisfail and the pigment will not hold on it.

Secondly, the black pencil for the shade looks unnatural - it seems "glued". Therefore, use additional colors for shadows. Their couples lie on a circle opposite each other:

 • majer and green
 • blue and orange-red
 • yellow and purple blue.

Use the color circle to determine the colors for the shadows

The combination of the color of the object with the additional gives a muffled brown or gray shadow. Here is an example, how to use shades for the shade image.

1. Start the figure of an orange ball with an additional color shadow - blue.

2. Place the dark orange layer on top of the shadow.

3. Add other colors: Yellow, Red and Green. The drawing will glow glimpses of different shades.

3. Choose a suitable stroke technique.

It is the technique of a stroke affects the result and speed of drawing. Choose a suitable option for the desired effect.

 • Small, Light, Rounded Strokes Ideal for smooth coverage and maximum control. The griffel crumbs less, the colors are easier mixed. Requires adhesion, but the mood is very relaxing.

 • Scribble - Fast and interesting technique, but not so accurate. The smallest doodle, the more accurate the result. The texture will be visible on the finished figure.

 • Lines - series of parallel lines. Also fast technique. Draw a line at an angle, convenient for hand. Control the pressure and do not increase it at the end of the stroke, otherwise the stripes will remain.

 • Cross Strike - series of intersecting lines. The more layers, the smoother texture: the following layers hide the irregularities of the previous ones. Cross strokes can be put in the same color to deepen the tone or other if you want to change the shade.

4. How fast and easily draw shadows

Shadows give the image volume and depth. Do not forget about them and do not leave for later. Remember that at the end add shadows more difficult: it is a pity to overlap carefully mixed colors, and the paper is almost completely polished. First draw shadows, then pick the local color to them.

 • Shadow shades. Most of the shadows can be painted with a black grape color pencil. This is muted purple, it gives convincing shadows in combination with most of the other colors.
 • Yellow shades. The most difficult thing to draw shadows in yellow objects. If there is a hint of blue in the shadow color, it becomes green immediately. "Corrosive" - Greyed Lavender color. Its pale purple shade when mixed with yellow gives a pleasant neutral brown or gray.

5. How to go to black

If you draw shadows or background only black, the picture looks flat. Revilitate the shadows with additional colors, and the black area of the drawing - dark pencils. What? Blue Indigo (Indigo Blue), Dark Green (Dark Green) and Tuscan Red (Tuscan Red) Combined give rich black with glimpses of original colors. You can start with a black pencil layer and add one or more of these colors.

6. Why need paper embossing

So, you draw a green leaf, and you need to get thin light lines on a dark background. How to do it?

 • White lines. Sell paper with a thin blunt tool (it can be done from a thin ballpoint handle with dry ink) - and the lines will remain white on the background of the color pencil layer. It should be stupid so that the griffel does not tash the embossing.
 • Colored lines. If you want to get thin colored lines, first apply the color, then make embossing and open another color.

7. Use odorless solvent for cutting

Most often in the drawings are visible small pieces of paper. Get rid of them, growing strokes and make the color brighter will help the smell solvent (White spirit). This is an ordinary gasoline solvent, which removed harmful volatile substances.

Apply it over homogeneous, close strokes. For convenience, pour into the brush with a tank and discharge the drawing with a cotton wand / disk or decisive. When paper dries, you can continue to draw: the texture is fully saved. The solvent without odor can be used in conjunction with a colorless pencil - a blender.

8. Colorless blender - also for cutting

Another good tool for cutting is a blender. How to use it? Circle sweep drawing. Colors are mixed, the spaces will disappear, the paper polls. The colored layer will become homogeneous and bright. But it is suitable only for strokes that are close.

How to draw lines - many know. In this lesson, it is proposed to explore the methods of tinting and drawing by several layers, which certainly complicates the drawing and makes it deep and saturated.

Color pencils are so universal and easy to use, which allows you to use any drawing technique that meets your temperament and your needs. However, most artists use the technique of so-called multilayer tinting.

Toning

When toning, pencil strokes are superimposed tightly, forming solid sections of color. Multi-layer - implies the overlapping of several translucent layers of tone on each other.
For example:

Plot A - painted with blunt pencil

Plot b - painted with a sharp pencil, which reduced paper lumets and increased the saturation of the tone

The plot of the tone is imposed so that the impression of surface irregularities is created - the texture attaches the figure is believable and vitality.

Multi-layered

For laying flowers, several layers can be 4 main reasons:

1. To muffle the natural brightness or severity of individual pigments

2. To mix and receive new colors.

3. To modulate color, vary shades and with their help color areas volume, complexity and wealth

4. To create and change the texture of depicted surfaces.

In most cases, the expressive effect is achieved with two three layers.

Cat black on this tonal pattern was not achieved by a black pencil, but a consistent laying of three other colors: red, blue and dark purple.

Laying layers with a strong pressure.

Demonstration of images of smooth, devoid of objects of items.

1 Method - Traditional

1. Different tones with a slight or middle pressure on the pencil are laid. White paper remains very noticeable.

The entire surface of the drawing is painted with a white pencil with a strong pressure. It muffles the previously applied tones and significantly reduces paper lumets.

3. For a smoothly selected surface of the paper, new color layers are superimposed.

4. To polish the remnants of paper texture over the entire surface, a white pencil is again used. Now the surface of the drawing looks like a picturesque picture.

5. At the end of work on the wax surface, the drawing is again applied, restoring tonal saturation and eliminating the latest lumets and roughness of paper.

2 method - fast.

1. Used soft paper. Tight layers with a strong pressure on the pencil, painted the background and surface of the table. Tones on the apple are superimposed with lighter movements, since they have almost imperceptibly connecting to the following layer. Compare this method with a white pencil polishing method.

Everywhere where additional colors are needed tightly. White color was used very limited. The picturesque effect of the drawing is achieved only due to a strong pressure on the pencil when mixing colors. The colors themselves look more saturated, since the surface smoothing with a white pencil was not required.

Two-layer tinting

The correct way to save time with multi-layered toning is to use a smaller number of layers. Try to apply a two-layer method. Remember that the main motives of using the set of layers are muffled to be too bright colors, the creation of new shades, tonal transitions and the creation of surface texture.

The overlay on each other layers of two bright close colors leads to a certain decrease in brightness.

2. Bright complementary colors are created on each other create an almost neutral tone.

3. In the imposition of two incomplete colors it seems that a much larger amount of shades mixed.

Spot toning technique

The idea of this toning is to lay the colors with small fragments or stains for the best modulation of colors and smoothness of shades.

Accented point toning

Detailed drawing

Point tinting can be pronounced, accentuated, or more subtle, poor, muffled - depending on your style and the work itself. In this figure, shooting color is superimposed quickly and boldly, which emphasizes the natural expressiveness of the flower.

First, the graphite pencil creates a composition. Then the negative space is painted with warm pink color, the strokes are applied in all directions. Next, with the help of point tinting on the flower: sunny-yellow, orange, as well as blue on "tongues", and herbalo green on the "boat". The tips of the leaves are painted sunny yellow. Several spots of purple tone are added over the pink background.

The "boat" plants are modeled by olive green. A little lavender and blue approach the flower to the original. The blue "tongues" is being finalized with ultramarine and green. A purple tone is superimposed on top of the pink tone, so that in some places the pink. In some places, red is added red.

The "tongues" are being finalized by interspersed spots of orange, scarlet, warm pink and red colors. To the "boat" and leaves return the original herbal-green color. The edges of red spots in a negative space are softened. Picture ready.

Color interaction

The tone given by one color pencil looks like "raw" and rustic. You can create a more complex layer of closed colors that interact with each other.

Close colors

They are similar to each other, these are neighboring tones on the color circle.

Complete colors

Are on a color circle opposite each other. In the figure, the field is painted in blue, and the flowers are depicted by different shades of orange and yellow colors.

All bright colors

White paper itself participates in the "bright colors" scheme

All dull colors

We are talking about inappropriate colors.

Colors of contrasting "temperatures"

"Temperature" of the same color may vary depending on the environment.

Using lines in a tonal pattern

Pure linear drawing is the fastest technique of work with color pencil, but when drawing, all expressive colors is ensured by mixing colors and as a rule, the lines are not enough.

Some of the possible line applications in the tonal pattern:

 • A - negligent line, arbitrarily crossing tone
 • B - purposeful hatching. Stroke color can be changed as needed.
 • B - Eccentric calligraphic lines forming the intricate pattern.
 • M - tone laid on top of the lines
 • D is a line created by two separate colors and limiting the tone.

Flowers on a white background

In this drawing line used bicon. The most obvious way is the linear drawing on the petals. The color here was asked a simple closure of close red and orange tones. Adding lines helps to emphasize contours and texture.

Color removal - two methods

1. Using a masking tape

Small pieces of ribbons are pasted on the plots from which the tone will be removed. Due to the strong stickiness of the masking tape, it must be applied very carefully. The trigger in this case is produced by a wide wooden blade.

Now both pieces of ribbons remove, exposing the two stripes cleaned from pencil pigment. But they are cleaned differently: even boundaries of the upper section are provided with a solid trimming of the masking tape to the very edges, the tidy was not so thoroughly. Remember this difference and use depending on the result you need.

2. Using the self-adhesive film

Tinging the film from the protective basis, slightly move it before releasing the basis, freeing the part of the sticky surface. Then the adhesive side it is superimposed on the site to be cleaned from the pigment or create texture on it. Do not press the fingers to the film to avoid the appearance of unwanted spots. The result of this process is largely determined by the type of tie tool. Here is a special tool with polished metal balls at the ends, which can be obtained on top of the film, you can get the desired lines and noted.

Demonstration drawing

This, performed by colored pencils drawing, needs significant corrections. It is necessary to give more drama and varnotes with a common color, as well as correct the weakness and isolation of central details, hats and sticks surrounded by too wide empty areas. Before the appearance of modern color removal technologies, these problems would seem practically insoluble.

First, with the help of a self-adhesive film, a masking ribbon and a matrix tool, a hat is removed and a part of the background. Pieces of adhesive tape, on the tablecloth about the background, left for possible reuse. Pay attention to the stars in the upper left corner. They were drawn "negatively" due to the removal of the appropriate sections of the tone using a self-adhesive film and a pointed tool.

Decorating the background to a very light tone, which is visible on the asterisks and lay new, more complex colors. Paint the tablecloth and cane. With black hats, we will remove the tone enough so that its place can take the white rabbit.

Color introduction

Under the introduction of color it is understood to add it to a pre-clarified section of another tone. This technique is similar to point toning, however, it is more adapted to large in size, not complicated by the details of the squares and is aimed mainly on the color modulation, and not forms.

Tinging a large plot you specifically leave small "cutters", and then in bright places, enter another color. Or carefully remove the desired section with a rubber band without making sharp corners.

Technique Podmuelka

Podmuelcom in painting is a pre-elaboration of the picture with a solid tone, which is then applied to the other paints.
Along with the significant savings time spent on toning the background, the submarike has an additional advantage. This tone, participating in all subsequent mixtures, usually helps combine the total color gamut of the pattern.

First completed a blue pencil with a middle pressure. It can have lumens or appreciated enough tightly - the choice is yours.

The overall flavor is similar to the selected podmuelka color. The leaves and grass are painted by various shades of green tone, in some places shone. The background was left unchanged.

In this figure, made on the basis of blue submarine, warm color gamut contrasts with a blue background. Various areas of submarine are lightened with plastic rubber band, and purple is introduced there by point toning.

Good luck!

Learning how to paint color and conventional pencils correctly

Letter and drawing - Very similar actions. Therefore, most people hold a pencil as well as the handle - between the big and the first two fingers, closer to the edge of the pencil. But remember - a well-sharpened pencil tip with a strong naja easily breaks and crumbs. Put on a pencil, as with a letter handle, do not.
This method allows you to easily manage the pencil and ideal for a specific technique - linear and cross-hatching.

To give a drawing greater expressiveness, liveliness and ease, try to keep the pencil on from the end.
Picturesque energetic lines or Rastastovka make more convenient to do, pressed the rod from above the index finger.
"Reverse Capture" - the way can be convenient for hatching and tallows. Pencil put on a brush and pressed with a thumb.
The movements are turned short, all brush.

Another way to capture.
The movement of the tip of the pencil is produced throughout the brush.

In the academic school, the drawing exists "the correct way to keep a pencil". In this way, artists are convenient to use when they are behind the easel. The hand at the same time is a canopy and for work requires the movement of the entire brush. It does not cover the drawing and it does not rub in the process of work.

Tip! When the artists draw at the table (on the horizontal plane), it is always put on the arm of a sheet of pure paper - "substrate". The substrate allows you to avoid "rubbing" paper and protects the finished part of the picture.

Second lesson:
Sharchka and Tyshevka
Two basic technical techniques for tinting drawings.
The hatching is the application of strokes (lines) of various thicknesses and with different pressure powers at a certain distance from each other. Lines can be straight and curves, short and long, overlap each other in several layers at different angles, forming the grid.

Rastuchetka is homogeneous (or with gradations) "Pouring" with a pencil surface without lumen between lines.
It can simply rub a pencil on the surface of the paper to obtain a solid tone of different intensity.
Sometimes for this, pieces of paper, wool, suede, own finger, etc. are used.

Learning to stroke

So that the hand obediently applied the strokes in the right direction and with a definite force of push, the hand must be trained! Developing the hardness of the hand, the strength and timeliness of the pressure require many hours of exercises!
Perform several exercises to master the basic drawing equipment - pencil toning. Do not be mistaken if the first time it turned out not very beautiful. A little patience, and you will see the result!

Exercise 1. Total hatching
Take a sheet of paper landscape size, a simple TM or HB pencil and draw "from hand" (without a ruler) 4 rectangles.

The first rectangle is shading uniformly, using only one angle of inclination.
In others, the angle of inclination is changed. Distances between the lines are trying to do uniform!
Press on a pencil - the same!

Exercise 2. hatching with various gradations
Throw two (you can and more!) Rectangle.
Learn to make strokes with different pressure
Strong push at the beginning of the stroke and very weak (almost without touching the paper pencil) at the end.
And now so that the strokes are smoothly intensified and then also smoothly weakened and went to no.

Keep the pencil in the hand freely, as if making crackles. At the same time, the wrist should work very well.
Lines must be carried out without taking a pencil from paper!
The sheet cannot be turned!
Do not forget to observe the same (or proportional) distances between the lines!
Exercise 3. Smooth amplification of gradations
Strike long rectangle, evenly thickening tone from light to dark.
Try to achieve its maximum level gain.

Do not resort to the rubbing of the strokes in the stains and try not yet to use the decisive.

These techniques can be applied separately or together.
Training or drawing, try to avoid mechanical stewing or hatching. Always think about the nature of the surface, form and volume of items.
It is necessary to learn to correctly transmit lightness in the drawing, gradation of colored objects of colored items.
Strike pencil drawing Develop a sense of tone strength ratios and skill
to see the power of shadow and contrasting ratios in the hatching. Using hatch technique, try to transmit surface texture in the picture.

I am glad to introduce you a new course "Drawing with colored pencils" based on the book "Draw with colored pencils just" author Ilin Sorg (original name - "Drawing Made Easy: Colored Pencil" by Eileen Sorg).

The course consists of 4 theoretical lessonsin which you will learn the main drawing techniques with colored pencils and 22 practical gradual drawing lessons with colored pencils various objects.

I decided to go through this course with you, so in the course I will make my comments and show my work. I will highlight your marks and observations.

All creative success and patience! Let's proceed.

Introduction

Color pencils have passed a long way from the tools we enjoyed in elementary school. Artists around the world take this little wooden wand with a pigment inside and create entire galleries of their work. Color pencils have many useful properties for both beginners and experienced artists. They are portable, inexpensive, non-toxic, comfortable and absolutely indispensable. Pencils can be achieved by any artistic style, from light robberies to photorealistic paintings. You are limited only to your imagination and desire.

I always considered myself a drawer in the shower, but was captured by colored pencils since I met them many years ago. I am passionate about the drawing of the lines and the many ways that this line can describe the world around us. My curiosity and perseverance led me to the need to develop their skills to show themselves and their own unique style on paper. In this book, I intend to teach you the basic basics of drawing with colored pencils and give you confidence to continue to improve your skills. I hope that these step-by-step lessons will raise the same fire inside you, which he left for me many years ago, and then you will continue to study drawing with colored pencilsTo find your artistic voice.

Materials and tools

Work with the color pencilsand requires quite a few accessories, many of the following you can find at home. As your skills develop, you can add more and more tools to your arsenal and expand the colors palette.

The pencils

There are three main types of color pencils. I use wax pencils, but also there are oil and watercolor. Each type has its own characteristics, so it is better to experiment. Many shops sell pencils individually so you can try and pick up exactly those you need.

Personally, I have watercolor pencils kooh-i-noor 36 colors. I will use them. To begin with, I advise you to make the palette of all the colors that you have in the set. Just spread the plate on a sheet of paper, preferably the same quality on which you draw. Make small bits of all colors and sign rooms. So it will be much more convenient when choosing a color, because the color of the griffel or the casing itself does not transmit true color and saturation. When I did little, I immediately noticed that some pencils were softer and brighter, and some harder and paler. Breaths are better to do with different pressures.

My set of colored pencils
My palette

If you do not have the opportunity to purchase pencils in your city, then you can always order them online.

I will give a few sets for example, which are perfect for the passage of these lessons:

1. Budget option - Color Pencils Lyra Osiris Aquarell, Watercolor, 36 colors. These pencils are suitable for beginners to study the basics and try themselves in drawing.

2. For those who want to make more professional work, it is better not to buy and buy professional Faber-Castell pencils. This set consists of 36 colors that are enough to start.

3. Well, the latest option for those who are small 36 colors - watercolor pencils Art Grip Aquarelle, set of colors, in a metal box, 60 pcs. This is a set of my dreams!

Eraser

Successful erasure of blots from color pencil Depends on two factors: the color of the pencil line and the press strength with which it was drawn. Dark colors tend to paint paper, they are harder to erase. It is also difficult to clean tight lines, especially on mint paper. I usually use an eraser-klyaku (in the picture at the top of the center). When used, it captures graphite particles, without damaging paper and not swinging the drawing, unlike the usual elasty. For complex areas, use eraser on batteries (bottom right). It is not necessary to use rubber and vinyl erases when working with colored pencilsBecause friction between paper and elastic can actually melt the wax pigment and make a flat surface of the paper.

I have an ordinary two-sided erasing gum. Let's see how she behaves in the process of drawing with colored pencils.

I also recently acquired an eraser-klyachka. It turned out to be used by it quite convenient.

Sharpeners

You can achieve different effects depending on how stupid or sharp your pencil, but usually it is necessary that pencils are always always sharp. I rarely use pocket sharpeners (in the picture in the middle), because they tend to break the tip of the pencil and cheat the tree, but some artists love them. I prefer good electrical sharpeners with hitchhiking (left), because they are plastered quickly and clean, and the hitchhike protects from dragging. If you are planning to work on the street, the sharpener on the batteries (right) is suitable for you. You can also use sandpaper to apply the pencil tip.

I had an ordinary pocket sharpener, which nicely pushing pencils. The main thing is that it was at least a new, not fought.

Also recently ordered a mechanical sharpener via the Internet. She plasters perfectly and fits into the interior of my working area 🙂 I advise you to look around.

Pencils for mixing colors (blenders)

These are the same color pencils, only without pigment. They create a smooth, shining decisive. After applying two or more layers of various colors, work with these pencils to mix colors together. The surface of the paper will be a little slippery after using the blender, so how many colors you have added from above, they are easily mixed. This technique is called "polishing", it is very useful when an luminous or wet surface is image. You can also use chopstick or colorless markers.

I have no blenders yet, but there are cutting sticks. But, unfortunately, non-ferrous watercolor pencils did not get them to grow. But the simple pencil they are very good.

Paper

Paper selection The most important factor on which the quality of work depends. Many types of paper do not meet the requirements of multi-layered colors, so it is better to pay time to test new paper before starting a large project. If you use watercolor pencils, then use the paper watercolor. For works saturated with details, I use watercolor hot pressing paper, which has a very smooth surface, which is ideal for drawing thin parts. For work, where there may be a lot of additional layers, I use sandpaper, designed to draw pastels. You can use more coarse paper with granules for landscapes or other textural objects. Always use checkered paper for your drawings, otherwise it will turn over time. For practice outside the house, it is convenient to use a sketchbook or notepad for drawing. Experiment.

It is very convenient to use the sketchbook, which can always be carried with you everywhere and in any free minute to do your favorite thing. I ordered my own.

Rulers

Use the rules to place the area of your drawing. Never neglect them if you need to draw solid straight lines, such as buildings.

Artistic Scotch

Use special adhesion to attach paper to the surface on which you draw, for example, to the table or easel. This type of scotch is softless and can be easily removed from the paper surface without any damage. But even using this scotch, be careful.

Additional tools

Use a dust brush to carefully remove the remnants of the pencil from the surface of the paper, as shuffling with your hand, you risk everything to lubricate, and dunping, the drool can get into the drawing. You may want to get a spray for fixing the finishing option.

So, we dealt with the tools. Let us now move on to the study of the formation of color theory.

Eagle is a predatory bird with a large torso, strong paws, long wings, sharp claws, short tail, massive beak and big eyes with good vision. All these features allow him to rary high in the sky long, consider future prey and easy to attack. Therefore, learning to draw an eagle should certainly follow, because it is often found in the territory of Eurasia, Africa and North America.

Owl is a night bird that is hunting at this time of day. And all this thanks to the big eyes that see well in the dark. Draw owls will not be difficult. Especially if it is in the cartoon version.

Nowadays, you can meet not only ordinary forest enemas, but also home. They externally similar to their wild relatives, but have a little other features that help them live well at home. So let's learn how to draw your beloved hedgehog, which has a needle on your back, and still knows how to curl into the spiny tangle.

Any drawing begins with an outline where it is necessary to determine the overall size of the animal or subject, and then move to the drawing of large parts. If you draw a hedgehog, then at the first stage it will be enough to draw a big oval. A gradually simple geometric shape will acquire a natural look, where there will be broken needles, short legs and an elongated face with small features.

Required Hedgehog Drawing:

Deer is the real pride of the forest. After all, such a "crown" has no animal. In addition, deer is a very graceful mammal. Therefore, it is very difficult to draw in the dynamics. So for the first acquaintance with him to learn how to draw a cute wooden parking animal in a simple pose. The structure of the head and torso is very similar to the horse, but there are also differences. For example, an elegant and short torso, a short little tail, branched chic horn and a small head. All these features make deer individuality, which give inspiration to learn how to draw.

You can at any time of the year, because they are very beautiful. For example, how to draw a swallow. The bulk of the body is no different from other birds, but the tail is long and has a cut in the middle. Therefore, he resembles a fork. Also, this bird can also be seen another feature - wings that are curved, sharp and long. The color of the swallow will be very simple in the drawing. For her coloring, there will be enough color pencil - black, red and brown. Optionally, you can add other shades.

Santa Claus and his granddaughter Snow Maiden often die on postcards and all sorts of christmas decorations. However, there are other beautiful and kind heroes. For example, a snowman. You can draw a snowman not only in the form of three circles, but also make an interesting illustration. It is beautifully posing the main character on this almbing sheet. "Dress up" his hat and scarf. In the right hand put a gift, and in the left - broom. We supplement the drawing with small elements and paint bright colors. So we get a snowman drawing for the new year 2018.

Sparrow is a very small bird, which is not very highlighted with its color feathers or singing. However, this is a very common bird in the forest, in the park, in the courtyards or its own garden. Therefore, such a small sparrow you probably saw.

Learn to draw sparrows

To learn to draw the bird, it is necessary to determine its main features and be sure to capture them on paper in the sketch stages before applying strokes with colored pencils. When drawing, do not forget that it is petty in appearance, she has a short tiny beak and small legs. In addition to the right proportions, it should be given the time to color the drawing so that the color turned out natural, like real birds. To do this, select as many different shades of brown pencils. Capture with you and a black carbon pencil that will help color eye, some feathers fragments and give the stroke.
