Otter

BDT Tovstonogova has existed since 1919. Initially, it was called a special dramatic pipe. The first performances were demonstrated in the hall of the conservatory. After some time, the theater gained its building. The Embankment of the Fontanka River has become the location of the legendary BDT. The artistic leadership of the new temple of art was entrusted with the famous poet A. A. Blok. Idean inspirer was Maxim Gorky. The repertoire of that time included works by F. Schiller, W. Shakespeare, V. Hugo. The main task of BDT considered the opposition of nobility, dignity and honor to the cruelty and chaos reigned in the world.

The twenties of the 20th century steel for the new theater is not easy. First, M. Gorky went to another country, then A. Block died. He left the BDT artist A. Benua. The main director A. Lavrentyev left the theater. New director came to the troupe. But no one was delayed for a long time. So continued until 1956. The basis of the repertoire at that difficult time was the works of Soviet playwrights.

In 1956, the theater began a new life. This happened due to the coming to the position of chief director and the artistic director G. A. Tovstonogov. He served in BDT thirty years. Georgy Aleksandrovich created performances that became real events. Its produced was distinguished by originality, freshness, novelty and her own look at the work. This man turned the theater, which was among the outsiders, in one of the leaders of the country. Georgy Alexandrovich invited such outstanding actors to the troupe, like T. Doronin, I. Smoktunovsky, V. Stroelik, S. Yursky, K. Lavrov, etc. It was the best team in the USSR. In 1964, the theater was awarded the honorary title "Academic". In 1970, another BDT scene was opened - Small.

In May 1989, Georgy Alexandrovich returned home from the rehearsal of a new performance on his car. He had a heart attack with him. The great director died right behind the wheel. The death of genius has become a great loss for the theater. Troupe could not recover from shock. Soon the artists chose a new artist. They became K. Yu. Lavrov. The actor tried to continue the traditions laid down by George Alexandrovich. In 1992, the theater was assigned the name G. A. Tovstonogov. Kirill Yuryevich Lavrov held the post Khuduka until 2007. Then he was changed by T. Chkheidze. Since 2013, the artistic director of BDT is A. A. Mighty.

History of the birth of the theater

Big Drama Theater. Tovstonogov was opened on February 15, 1919. Due to the lack of its own building, the troupe gave presentations at the conservatory. The room was not heated, it was very cold, but every evening the halls were full.

The idea to organize the theater belongs to M. Gorky. He supported him - the commissar of theaters and spectacle. Also, the founders include the artist A. Benua.

The art council, which was headed by M. Gorky, decided to invite A. Lavrentyeva and N. Arbatov as directed by the director. The actor N. Monakhov was appointed to the Transportation and engaged in the selection of artists. Music leaders of the theater were A. Gaguk and Y. Shaporin. The troupe was collected from outstanding artists who were leading actors of other theaters, and was among them Y. Yuriev - a star a little movie.

BDT's own building was received in 1920 and to this day does not change his location.

To Tovstonogov

Since the spring of 1919, the chairman of the theater was A. Block. Big Drama Theater. Tovstonogov in the first years of existence demonstrated performances that corresponded to the idea of \u200b\u200bhis creators who wanted to see in it a revolutionary program - the repertoire was a heroic and social character. On the scene, there were performances on the works of F. Schiller, V. Hugo, W. Shakespeare, since Soviet drama has not yet received its development. In many ways, the theater's face was determined by his artists. They entered them and the famous actress N. Lenzhen, who played in the theater at that time, did not use butaforia on stage, things were real: the furniture was borrowed from rich houses. Even costumes were genuine. In 1925, the play "Conspiracy of the Empress" was set. The role of Cubanova played N. Lenzhen and in the play she put on a dress that really belonged to her heroine that existed in reality. Great importance was attached to music, B. Asafyev, Y. Shaporin, I. Vysnevaradsky collaborated with the theater.

From 1921 to 1923, large changes occurred in the theater. Those who stood at his origins: M. Gorky and M. Andreeva - left Russia. A. Blok died. Some actors returned to theaters where they served before inviting BDT. The main director A. Lavrentiev left the post in 1921, but in two years he returned and until 1929 he held this position. He left the theater artist A. Benua. Other people came to their places, who brought something new, expanded the repertoire with the play of domestic and foreign playwrights of that era.

From 1929 to 1935, the main director was K. Tverskaya - a student of V. Meyerhold. Since then, the number of new productions on classical works has decreased. And for the entire period of the leadership K. Tverskova, two new classic plays were delivered. Preference was given to the works of modern authors: Yu. Oleshi, N. Pogodina, A. Fayko, L. Slavina.

In 1932, the theater was awarded the name of one of its founders, he became known as the "name of Gorky". Then the repertoire includes some works of the writer.

Theater in 1935-1955

There was a time when a big dramatic theater them. Tovstonogov experienced a creative crisis. Such a period lasted 20 years - from 1935 to 1955. This time can be called the crisis of the director, since the talented directors appeared and stated themselves interesting productions, but the theater was long and left for a long time (not always in good wax). K. Tverskova in 1935 was sent from the city, and soon shot. A. Wild served in the theater just a year, was then arrested. All the directors who were after him were delayed on average for 1-2 years. Due to the frequent change of leaders of the atmosphere in the team spoiled, the quality of the productions decreased, the BDT has lost its popularity, the audience was sometimes less than the actors on the stage, the financial situation worsened, and there was a threat to closure.

In the era of Tovstonogov

In 1956, G. Tovstonogov was invited to the position of chief director of BDT, which was given great powers. He began his service in office, he dismissed many actors. A new leader tried to attract the viewer, for this reason comedies appeared in the repertoire. Already in early 1957, a large dramatic theater. Tovstonogov returned to the former popularity, and the performances began to pass with full halls. After 6 years of work, Tovstonogov won the fame of a talented and successful director. The theater visited tours in many countries of the world and was popular abroad. Georgy Alexandrovich held the position of chief director of BDT for three decades.

End 20 - early 21st century

After died G. Tovstonogov, he was replaced by K. Lavrov, who was not a director, and therefore the theater was in constant search for the director. Lavrov gathered a state that worked on an ongoing basis. However, he often invited director from other theaters to cooperate. In 1992, BDT received his modern name. In 2004, he gained the main director, T. Chkheidze, who occupied this position until 2013.

The Heroes of W. Shakespeare, F. Schiller, V. Hugo, went to the BDT scene. They argued the ideas of nobility, opposing the honor and dignity of the chaos and the cruelty of the world. Dobuzhinsky, and architect-monumentalist V.A. Shchuko did it in their own way. But they precisely formed a solemn, truly magnificent style of early BDT.

The onset of the new era coincided with difficult, and sometimes tragic changes within the theater itself. In 1921, for several years I left Russia M.F. Andreeva and M. Gorky, the same year did not become A.A. Blok, returned to the academic theater drama Yu.M. Yuriev, left A.N. Benua, left the BDT and became the main director A.N. Lavrentiev. Taking from A.A. The block of the symbolic relay, in 1923 the literary part was headed by A.I. Piotrovsky.

In the new search for the theater, the directorial activity of the student V.E. has played a major role. Meyerhold K.K. Tver (1929-1934). In the mid-twenties, the Repertoire of BDT is determined primarily by the plays of modern playwrights, such as B.A. Lavrenev, A. Fayko, Yu.K. Olesha, N.N. Nikitin, N.A. Zarkha, V.M. Kirschon, N.F. Thirty steps long. Twenty deep. Up - on the height of the curtain. Space scene is not so big. In this space, it could accommodate a modern apartment - it will not be so unattegfully spacious. Here you can place the garden. Perhaps the corner of the garden, no more. Here you can create the world. The world of high human passions opposing the lowestness, the world of acts and the world of doubt, the world of discoveries and a high system of feelings leading to the auditorium.

History

Theater organization

The theater was organized on the initiative of Maxim Gorky and the Commissioner of theaters and the spectacle of the Union of the Northern Region, the actress MHT "First Call" Maria Andreva. In August 1918, the Commissioner M. F. Andreva was signed by decree on the creation of a tragedy, romantic drama and high comedy in Petrograd ", known today throughout the world under the BDT abbreviation.

Among the founders of the theater was one of the pillars of the "world of art" - the artist who became in BDT and the director, Alexander Benoit. In September, the actor Nicholas Monakhsu was entrusted with the organization "Special dramatic troupe"; In October, the art council, led by Gorky, decided on the directories, inviting N. I. Arbatov and Andrei Lavrentiev; Alexander Gaguk and Yury Shaporin were invited as the leaders of the music part. At the same time, the leading actors of the theater were identified: except for the monk, the Prime Minister of the Alexandrinsky Theater Yuri Yuriev and the "Star" of a silent movie, the actor of the Small Theater Vladimir Maximov.

The basis of the troupe was the artists of the artistic drama theater created in 1918 by A. N. Lavrentiev, and born in the same year the theater of the tragedy under the leadership of Yu. M. Yuryeva. In December, the first collection of troupes was held, in which Vasily Sofrons entered; The rehearsals of two performances at once began. In January 1919, the Board of BDT was formed; Maria Andreeva became the chairman of the Board, Andrei Lavrentyev was appointed the main director.

Poster of the play "Don Carlos"

Large dramatic opened on February 15, 1919 in the premises of the large hall of the conservatory show "Don Carlos" on the play Friedrich Schiller. This historical performance set Andrei Lavrentiev, issued Vladimir Schuko, wrote music to him Boris Asafiev; The best actors troupe were occupied in it: monks (Philip), Maximov (Don Carlos), Yuriev (Pose); The performance was shot at exactly five hours, the conservatory was not heated, there was a lutty cold, but every evening the audience filled out the hall, and no one left.

In 1920, BDT received at his disposal the building of the former small theater (Suvorin theater) on Fontanka, 65, where it is currently located.

Early years (1919-1934)

In April 1919, Alexander Blok became the chairman of the directory (artistic council) of the Great Drama Theater, Maxim Gorky remained the chief ideologist.

According to the initiators, the theater was to become a citadel of the heroic repertoire, the theater of large social passions, excited revolutionary pathetics, the theater of "Great Tears and the Great Laugh" (A. Block).

Theater performances in the first years of its existence fully corresponded to the revolutionary program of its founders. At that time, the Soviet dramaturia was not yet developed and the best works of the world classics were on the stage: Trachemis of W. Shakespeare and F. Schiller, Drama V. Hugo; At the same time, D. Merezhkovsky and V. Brysov were installed in the theater. In the new theater, directories Nikolai Petrov and Boris Sushkevich worked; Artists worked closely with the theater - representatives of the "World WORLD": Mstislav Dobuzhinsky, Vladimir Schuko (up to the BDT, made up performances in the Tragedy of Yuryev's Tragedy and the Lavrentyev's Art Drama Theater), Boris Kustodiev, Evgeny Lancere. The artists largely determined the face of the theater in his early period; About how Shchuko created the atmosphere in the "Don Carlos" recalled the executor of the role of Elizabeth Nadezhda Komarovskaya: "The scale of the scenery created the impression of the helplessness of a person, his inability to overturn these grave walls. It seemed that the human cry could never be heard, he wouldreed in them. " And five years later, critic A. A. Gvozdev wrote: "Determine the place of BDT in the circle of the latest theatrical currents - it means to point out the role that the artist decorator played in this theater. According to the testimony of Nina Lenzhen, in the big dramatic in those years everything was true, not Boutaphor: furniture borrowed from rich houses, costumes ... Even in 1925, playing Anna Cubage in the play of A. Tolstoy and P. Shyogolev "Plispage of the Empress", Lengen wore a genuine dressing dress.

An important role was assigned to the musical design; Bordes Asafiev, Yuri Shaporin, collaborated with BDT (music supervisor until 1928), Mikhail Kuzmin, Ivan Vysnegradsky.

In 1921, Gorky and Andreeva left Russia, the block, Yu. M. Yuriev died in his native Alexandrinsky; M. Dobuzhinsky went; In early 1921, BDT left his chief director - Andrei Lavrentiev.

New people came to the big dramatic: in 1921-1922, Nikolai Petrov was the main director of the theater, his successor was passionate about the expressionism Konstantin Khokhlov, who replenished the repertoire of the play of the play of the Pieces of Kaiser and E. Tollera. "In the works of George Kaiser and Ernst Toller," Piotrovsky wrote, "Piotrovsky wrote, the theater found that distraction and generalization of images, the journalistic temperament, which, of course, very unreasonably seemed to him in an integral sign of" high drama ", a true antidote against him, the theater Schiller, "Households".

At the end of 1923, BDT left A. Benua, but new artists came - Nikolay Akimov, Yuri Annenkov, V. M. Khodasevich.

In 1923, Lavrentiev returned to Big Drama and remained the main director until 1929; The literary part of the theater in the same 1923 headed Adrian Piotrovsky, to a large extent, thanks to him, the play of modern playwrights, both foreign and domestic playlines appeared on the theater's poster. The latter theater often opened himself, including Boris Lavrenova, E. Zamyatina (as a playwright), A. Stein. The desire for the play "Big, abstract, generalized and monumental" during this period, according to Piotrovsky, determined the specificity of the BDT as good luck and delusion.

Next to Lavrentiev, Khokhlov worked in a large dramatic until 1925, while it came to the theater director Pavel Weisbre and Konstantin Tver. New actors came to BDT and new actors: Alexander Larikov, Valentina Kebardina, Olga Kaziko.

Konstantin Tver

BDT named after Tovstonogov Day

From 1929 to 1935, Konstantin Tverskaya was the main director of the theater, the student of Vsevolod Meyerhold. From the mid-20s, starting from the play "Research" (on the play by B. Lavrenova "Smoke"), staged by Lavrentiev in 1925, the theater gradually refused to be distracted romance; It fully succeeded in K. Tversky. He gave preference to modern drama (until 1935, the repertoire of the theater replenished only one classical play - "Recreation" by A. N. Ostrovsky in the formulation of V. V. Luce), the plays of Yuri Olesha, Alexey Fayko, Nikolai Pogodin, was put in the BDT, Lion Slavina ; An important event of theatrical life was the play "Rift" on the play by B. Lavrenova. However, the last performance set in BDT Tverskova became Richard III W. Shakespeare.

In 1932, the name of his actual founder was a large dramatic, M. Gorky; When Tverskoy in the repertoire of the theater first appeared the plays of A. M. Gorky: "Egor Boychov and others" (1932) and "Reaching and others" (1933).

During this period, talented artists worked in a large dramatic: Moses Levin (chief artist), Nikolai Akimov and Vadim Mardin; The last performance of Tver issued Alexander Tyshler. In the performances of Tver, the young actors Vitaly Polikamacamiko and Nikolai Korn declared themselves. Since 1930, Vladimir Luce also worked as a director-director in the theater, also a student Meyerhold.

The period of crisis of the direist (1935-1955)

In the 30s and 1930s, bright directors appeared in the theater, however, stating interesting productions, they were not always voluntarily, left the theater. Konstantin Tver was first sent from Leningrad, and then shot; The head of the theater in 1936, Alexey Wild in August 1937, was arrested and then convicted.

... Seven years this theater was practically without this supervisor. Then they did the college. They invited a wonderful person, directed by Konstantin Pavlovich Khokhlov, who was already old and sick. They "ate it." There was a very evil troupe, there were a lot of them. For seven years, everyone who was not too lazy came to this theater ... -din Schwartz

After the wild post of the main director, they occupied:

    1938-1940 - Boris Babochem 1940-1946 - Lev Mine 1946-1950 - Natalia Rashevskaya 1950-1952 - Ivan Efremov 1954-1955 - Konstantin Khokhlov

Such a frequent change of artistic guidance affected the atmosphere in the team, and on the quality of the productions. By the end of the 30th theater lost popularity.

At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the theater was evacuated in Kirov, but soon after the breakthrough of the Ring of the blockade, February 11, 1943, returned to Leningrad to serve the troops of the Leningrad Front and hospitals.

The creative crisis of BDT, marked even in the late 30s, aggravated in the post-war years. Art leaders were not delayed for a long time: in the period from 1949 to 1955, four main director were changed in the theater, in the season of 1953-1954, a large dramatic and did nothing at all without the main director - was managed by the board. In conditions when the head of the theater was hardly almost every season, a new person was provided, no matter how the development, thoughtful repertoire politics could not be a speech. All this led to the fact that in the mid-50th the theater did not have a "his" viewer; Due to the extremely low attendance (on other performances of the public in the hall was "less than artists on the stage") a significant financial debt was formed, who threatened the theater by closing.

Directory Checkwhard has adversely affected the controllence of the theater, the troupe is simply "eaten" of disadvantageous directories. In the BDT, at that time, there were a lot of talented actors, but some who did not belong to the leading group were not in demand, others were stamped in their role, the third, in the absence of art leadership, feeling themselves the owners of the theater, allowed everything on stage everything that would be pleased.

Epoch Georgy Tovstonogova (1956-1989)

George Tovstonogov did not immediately accepted the offer to lead BDT. However, for the sake of salvation of the "first proletarian theater", at the insistence of the theaters of the party bodies of Leningrad, Tovstonogov still agreed to become the eleventh in the account of the main director of the Grand Drama and February 13, 1956, on the eve of the next day of the theater, the troupe was presented.

Foyer Theater.

For six years of work as the main director of the Leningrad Theater. Leninsky Komsomol Georgy Tovstonogov made the discerning Leningrad theatrical public to talk about himself as an extremely talented and successful director. Put in 1955 on the stage of the Leningrad Drama Theater them. Pushkin The play "Optimistic tragedy" on the play of Vsevolod Vishnevsky (later awarded the Leninist Prize) is no less than the public, liked the party leadership and played not the last role in his new appointment.

The new artistic leader was granted broad powers; From the Leningrad Lenkom, Tovstonogov invited to the post of the head of the literary part of Dina Schwartz; For the administrative reorganization of the BDT director of the theater, Georgy Korkin was appointed. "He was cruel, he was merciless, he recalled Dean Schwartz. - He could reorganize everything, dismiss everyone who needs. And he ran to George Alexandrovich every day. " At his first meeting with the troupe, touched upon the topic "Evidence" of art leaders, Tovstonogov said: "I am unbearable! Remember this: inconvenible! ". With the blessing of the governing instances, the new artistic director fired about a third of the troupe - more than 30 actors.

In the first year in BDT Tovstonogov, in the literal sense, the words "set" the audience in the theater forgotten; Based on the fact that "the theater is not only for use," the new artistic director was not alleged and entertained: I put the comedy "sixth floor" Alfred Webi and "When the Acacia blooms" Nicolas Vinnikova, "Unnamed Star" Mikhail Sebastian ... by the beginning of 1957 The year, Tovstonogov managed to turn the situation: the performances were already with full halls. New BDT, Tovstonogov Theater, began from the play "ESOP" (on the play by Guillerme Figueredo), presented by the audience on March 23, 1957; The legendary "idiot" followed the legendary "idiot" with Innochenty Smoktunovsky.

The fall of interest in the theater since the late 30s, according to Iosif Yuzovsky, was a common trend, not only BDT, but the entire Soviet theater was experiencing a crisis during these years. Tovstonogov's transition to a large dramatic coincidence with the beginning of the "thaw", he was one of the first who realized new opportunities in the changed atmosphere; "The symbol of thaw" was already "ESOP"; Two years later, during the discussion of the Gorky "Varvarov", Yuzovsky, the witness of the theater's bright heyday in the 20s, who wrote about the performances of Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko and Vsevolod Meyerhold, said: "What you do is related not only to one Big dramatic theater ... I want you to not reduce your pace and felt responsible and understood that there are thirst for the real and the Bolshoi Theater. So long ago it was not so this claim can be carried out in this theater ... " Tovstonogov did not deceive the expectations: for "barbarians" followed the "five evenings" of Alexander Volodin and another number of performances included in the Golden Fund of the Soviet theater.

Large dramatic, although he was not tired of praising and the Central Soviet press, right up to the "truth", especially after recognition abroad (which did not exclude both grave articles, including in the "Pravda"), lived under the constant supervision of party bodies; The Roman comedy was not released, L. Zorin, with difficulty, the price of numerous concessions, Tovstonogov managed to save the play "Three Bag Wheat" on the story of Vladimir Tenryakov - about post-war hunger in the village and post-war repressions, for a long time and painfully had to fight for one of the most Favorite spectators performances - "The price", for the only reason that the author of the play, Arthur Miller, allowed himself critical statements about the USSR foreign policy; The issued settings often had to be adjusted. So, in the play "Mount from the mind" on the superzanves, like an epigraph, a quotation was made of A. S. Pushkin: "The damnie guessed me to be born in Russia with soul and talent," in the end, the quote had to be removed. And nevertheless, the era of Tovstonogov in the history of great dramatic was "golden"; For three decades, his leadership BDT remained the leader of the domestic theater process, the "first stage of the country", using the continued success and abroad: from European countries BDT for these years did not have visited Portugal, toured in Japan, Argentina, Israel, twice in Taiwan ... "Big Drama Theater," Freedomy wrote in 1970, "Creating performances - cultural values. They turn out to be in one row with the release of multi-volume collections of the compositions of great writers, with publications that spill a new light on the history of the country. " And P. A. Markov, six years later, later stated: "What judgments are from enthusiastic, chopped to skeptical and arrogant - neither take-out about the performances of Tovstonogov, it remains equally obvious that Tovstonogov occupies a special and extremely significant place in our theatrical life. He will not walked out with deliberate inattention, you will not deny it defining, firmly fixed influence on the Soviet theater. In addition, all signs of external - sometimes triumphal - success ... And meanwhile, Tovstonogov does not make the minimum step, in order to pour success from the viewer ... The Tovstonogov Theater is deprived of the slightest shade of sensationality ... Success confirms that the theater gets into the very point of social and artistic interests of the country ... "

The directions of the sirota rose (in 1955-1962 and in 1966-1972), Rosen Agamirzyan (in 1961-1966), worked with Tovstonogov (in 1961-1966), Yuri Aksenov (in 1961-1983), Gennady Egorov (in 1982-1984 ) And each of them contributed to the Golden Fund of BDT.

Troupe

Troupe, created by Tovstonogov, according to the famous Polish director Erwin Akser, who set up in BDT, not one performance, "could compete with the best European teams": "The leading actors of this theater, the master of their business, did not give way to world famous stars, and perhaps, and Exceeded their ability to combine the game in an ensemble with individual virtuosity. " The actors are ready to argue domestic theaters: "The troupe of a great dramatic," says, in particular, N. Staroselskaya, - could not compete with the best European teams, because for several decades the greatest troupe in the world. " According to C. Rudnitsky's testimony, it was even more difficult to get into the BDT in the 1980s than in the MCAT ship 30-40, where the all-union scale stages were estimated in dozens. In 1988, formulating the principles on which he selected actors to his theater, Tovstonogov, with his reputation of a despot and a dictator, among the obligatory named "Intellectual Level" ("All important, interesting in our lives should concern him") and "the ability To the improvisational search in the process of work. " Tovstonogov knew how to make an actor co-author of the performance; As theatershot T. Zlotnikova, he loved the actors "as a class", but loved demanding, sometimes even burdensome.

"In the BDT troupe," Elena Halfunkeel writes, "Tovstonogov had several main actresses - Nina Olkhin, Lyudmila Makarova, Emma Popova, Zinaida Charco, Tatyana Doronin." But next to them were such wonderful chasing, as Valentina Kovel and Maria called Sokolov, which N. Staroselskaya also included in the "most-smaller star"; In the 70s, and with the "main", the young Natalia Teniakova was competing with adequately.

As for the male part of the troupe, here the "Stars" list could be infinite: already in the 60s next to the highly diffused Vitaly, Evgeny Lebedev, Efim Copellen and Vladislav, became famous for the young Pavel Lupcheyev, Sergey Yursky, Cyril Lavrov, Oleg Borisov, Oleg Basilashvili, Vladimir Receptor; In the 70s, the audience learned and loved Gennady Bogacheva, Yuri Demich and Andrei Tolubeev; And there were also Nikolai Korn, Pavel Pankov, Nikolai Trofimov, Vsevolod Kuznetsov, Vadim Medvedev .... A separate page in the history of Tovstonogovsky BDT - Innokenty Smoktunovsky, although he played only one unforgettable role on this scene.

Georgy Tovstonogov headed a big dramatic thirty-three years; May 23, 1989, returning home after the general rehearsal of the play "Visit of the Old Lady", he died behind the wheel of his car.

After Tovstonogov (1989-2013)

Many had such a feeling that on May 23, 1989, not only Tovstonogov died, the BDT died; Tatyana Doronin spoke about the memo, he wrote to Dina Schwartz in her diary. Tovstonogov did not prepare a successor to himself: a new director will come, will create his theater. But the new director did not come (so, did not take place in the BDT Lion Dodina), there were heavy times for the entire Russian theater; Very soon before the BDT, as well as in many theaters, the question of survival faced.

During this period, the theater was headed by Kirill Lavrov, elected by the secret ballot of the collective; He was not a director, and one of the main worries of the new artistic director, along with the preservation of the troupe and the solution of financial problems, were the search for talented directors in general and the main director in particular. Only in 2004 the theater found, finally, the main director in the person of the Chkheidze, which has been cooperating with BDT Temur. In one of the interviews in 2007, Chkheidze said: "I knew: what's wrong here - it will be worse than in Tovstonogov. But it is not, and in general, the Tovstonogovy is born extremely rarely. And life goes, and I, having tried the theater, which was once, do not put it as Tovstonogs. "

In recent years, critics wrote about a stump in a large dramatic, and on February 19, 2013, Temur Chcheidze resigned. He explained the reasons for their resignation at a press conference on March 4: "Now, probably, it is time when the BDT needs change, for which I personally can not go. Many call me Retrograd, but it was my principled path - to save Tovstonogov heritage. I am convinced that incomplete 10 years and the classic will again need the Russian theater. One young man told me that my performances are perceived as an anachronism. I am grateful to him for honesty. "

The famous building of the Great Drama Theater, which is located on Fontanka, was erected in 1877. His Customer was Count Anton Apraksin. It originally conceived as the theater site, and should have become an auxiliary stage of Alexandrinsky. For a long time the building was rented by the Directorate of Imperial Theaters. At the end of the XIX century, it passed on to the reference of the literary and artistic society, based by the playwright Alexei Suvorin. In 1917, the building confiscates to Soviet power, in 1920 a large dramatic theater was founded here.

Architect Ludwig Fontana, built a building on request of the Count Apraksina, chose an eclectic style. The appearance of it combines the characteristic features of Baroque and Renaissance. Already 10 years after the construction, the building has undergone a number of small changes, and at the beginning of the 20th century there was a large-scale reconstruction, during which the stage space increased greatly. Fully changed the concept of lighting the interiors of the building. In Soviet years, part of the audience foyer was converted into a small scene.

At the beginning of the 21st century, the question of the major repairs of theatrical premises. The last reconstruction of the famous theater ended in 2014.

History troupe

The founders of the Petrograd Bolshoi Drama Theater can be considered Maxim Gorky and one of the oldest Mkat actresses Maria Andreev, who occupied the position of Commissioner on the affairs of the spectacular institutions of the Soviet North. In 1918, she officially signs the decision to open the BDT. The best actors of the Soviet era entered the troupe of the new theater team. Alexander Benua himself became the main artist of the theater.

Already in 1919 the theater played his first premiere. It was Schiller's play "Don Carlos". The building on Fontanka Theater received only in 1920, and before the presentation was held in the Great Hall of the Conservatory.

"The Theater of the Great Tears and the Great Laugh" - so defined the repertoire policy of BDT Alexander Blok. At the beginning of its path, the theater, taking on the production of the works of the world's best and Russian playwrights, carried the audience relevant time revolutionary ideas. The main ideologist of BDT during the first years was Maxim Gorky. Since 1932, the theater officially began to wear his name.

In the early 30s, the chief director of the theater was the student of Vsevolod Meyerhold Konstantin Tver. With it, the repertoire was supplemented with produced by modern drama. The plays of the authors such as Yuri Oleshi, made the theater more close to modernity.

In 1936, Tver was arrested, and later shot. After that, it was time for the permanent change of the artistic leadership of the theater. Many of his creative leaders were repressed, others came to shift. It could not but affect the quality of the productions and the condition of the troupe. BDT began to lose its popularity and status of the leading theater of the city. During the Great Patriotic War, the troupe continued to activities in evacuation, and after the breakthrough, the blockade returned to Leningrad, where he was advised to leisure hospitals.

The creative stagnation of the theater lasted until the post of artistic director did not take Georgy Tovstonogov in 1956. He completely reorganized the BDT, updated the troupe and attracted to the playground of the new viewer. In the thirty-three years of his leadership, the theater troupe was replenished with such stars as Zinaida Sharot, Tatyana Doronin, Natalia Teniakova, Alisa Freindlich. In the scene BDT shone Innokenty Smoktunovsky, Pavel Luspekayev, Sergey Yursky, Oleg Basilashvili.

After the death of the great master, star troupe several times changed the main directorists, among whom were Cyril Lavrov, Grigory Dietykovsky, Temur Cheidze.

In 2013, BDT was headed by one of the most striking directors of the modern Russian theater - Andrei Mighty. His character of the "Alice" on the works of Lewis Carol, with Alice Freundlich, immediately conquered the most prestigious theatrical awards of Moscow and St. Petersburg.

In 2014, the large-scale reconstruction of the BDT building was over - this way the theater was updated not only in artistic, but also in the architectural plan. Saving a historical appearance, he significantly upgraded its technical base.

Currently, the theater has three operating platforms - a large and small scene in the main building on the fountain, as well as the Kamenneostrovsky Theater, known as the "second scene of the BDT".

During the last three-year reconstruction of BDT inside the building under several layers of plaster and paints, unique bas-reliefs, drawings and stucco were discovered, the existence of which was previously unknown.

After conducting a major overhaul of the building, the builders have retained such memorable objects as the Cabinet George Tovstonogov, as well as the interiors in grimmed, where the great theatrical figures of our time were left on the walls and ceiling.

One of the most famous Russian drama theaters in 2015 was marked by the National Theater Prize "Golden Mask" in the nomination "Theater dolls", since one of the last Premier BDT was attributed by experts not to dramatic, but to the puppet genre. The performance "When I will become small again" in the works of Janusz Korchak, put the outstanding Russian director-puppector Evgeny Ibrahimov on the stage of the BDT scene.
