Why don’t we lose weight during the oraza (added)? Medical research on Muslim fasting Lose weight during fasting.

Today is the first day of the holy month of RAMADAN according to the Muslim calendar. On this day, all devout Muslims fast, except for the sick, children, pregnant and nursing mothers. And since I am a Muslim, I, of course, keep it.

Amazing post. If in Christianity the fasts are light, mainly abstaining from animal food, but there are a lot of them (in total, more than 200 days a year, as I was told), then for Muslims the fast lasts only one month - 30 days and the fast is very difficult.

Well, you say, why do we need this, what does religion have to do with it, it’s not interesting. But I don't think so. I read both the Bible and the Koran with equal pleasure. If possible, you need to know as much as possible and be interested in the lives of those around you, get to know their culture, way of life, house-building, customs, religion, etc., etc. The world is huge and we are all different. Therefore, today I am writing to you about Muslim fasting.

How do we start the day during Lent? Imagine, the alarm clock rings at 2:30 in the morning and I run to the kitchen; in half an hour I have to prepare breakfast and set the table. In principle, you don’t have to go to bed. Breakfast is the usual, honey, butter, 1 soft-boiled egg, cheese, fresh cucumbers and tomatoes, tea, coffee. And definitely something floury - crumpets, flatbreads, khachapuri. So that breakfast is hearty, but unsalted. And be sure to have a carafe of cool water. I have difficulty waking up my family and, surprisingly, it’s so nice to have a snack at dawn, before sunrise. It’s summer now, it’s warm and I’m setting the table outside. Then a short prayer and sleep. Throughout the day we are prohibited from:
-There is
-drink
-chew gum
-have sex, even kiss or hug
-smoking
- use foul language
-to gossip
-swear
We need to learn patience and more patience. Willpower is developed and a person understands that one can be patient, one can restrain oneself and one’s desires, a person begins to understand what hunger and thirst are, and even the richest sit as hungry as the last beggars and become merciful. This is a test that we must pass with honor. From birth I grew up in a religious family. Although progressive too. While, according to our traditions, girls immediately after school had only a wedding and then only family life, my grandparents had higher education, my parents too, I heard from the first grade that I should study at the university and studied later. That is, modern realities and religion have always been close.

And then evening comes, the sun is just about to set - our fast is from sunrise to sunset. And here our housewives are all at the stove and preparing the most delicious, but also the easiest. Because heavy food at the end of the day can upset your stomach so much that it won’t seem sweet later. Soups, vegetables, sauces, yoghurts, juices, compotes. It's good that it's summer and there's a lot of fruit. And in winter, when we keep it, it’s expensive, of course, but not so difficult. And what’s interesting is that you don’t even remember about food - you just really want to drink. Today at 8:40 we drank, then ate. I prepared a light lentil soup and fish in the oven, and baked a cake. The watermelon is still standing untouched - there is no room. We'll cut it a little later and enjoy. Still, it’s a blessing to live in the south. Grapes, peaches, watermelons...

This is how we fast. I thought whether with my illnesses I would be able to maintain the fast or not, I was able to, in the morning I swallowed pills and nothing. And my youngest also asks to keep the fast. But this year I only allowed him to stay for 3 days - one at the beginning, middle and end of the month. He is 11, and boys must fast from the age of 12, and girls from the age of 9. But the environment influences him and he is already mentally ready. There is no coercion, it is his duty and he himself will decide whether to give it or not.

This is my diet this month, so the rule of not eating after 6 does not work this month.

Exercise program and diet for the month of RAMADAN from Yuri Spasokukotsky:
Monday: CHEST AND BICEPS (workouts should be shortened to 45 minutes)
Power part
1. Bench press on an incline bench with amplitude reduced by 10-20 cm, 1-15.2/6-8 repetitions (- stands for: “1 light warm-up set for 15 repetitions with a weight that is 50% of the working weight, which then 6-8 repetitions are performed until muscle failure." Usually the working weight (which is performed at the limit) is about 2 times heavier than the warm-up, and in the warm-up set we do not give all our best, but simply warm up the muscles, not working at the limit).

2. Curls with dumbbells with supination, simultaneous – 1 set warm-up 15 reps, 2 sets to failure 8-10 reps

3. Incline dumbbell press 1 set warm-up 15 reps, 2 sets to failure 8-10 reps

4. Press (between sets of bench press) 1 set 20 reps

5. Standing barbell curls 1 set warm-up 15 reps, 1 set to failure 8-10 reps

Wednesday: BACK AND TRICEPS
1. Wide-grip rows to the chest, or wide-grip pull-ups with your own weight (if you have the strength, then with additional weights) 1 set x15, 2 sets of working ones, 6-8 repetitions.

2. Extension of arms at the upper block - 1x15, 1x10, 1x8, 1x6
3. T-bar row in a machine with chest support - 1x15, 1x10, 1x8
(or 1-arm horizontal pull-down)

4. Arm extensions while kneeling at the bottom block with a long rope (or another exercise for the external triceps). 1x15, 1x10, 1-2x8 with peak contraction.

5. Hyperextension or hump (at the end of the lesson) 1-2/15-30

Friday: LEGS AND SHOULDERS
1. Flying with straight arms, palms back, 1x15, 1x12, 1x10, 2-3x6-8 (with an emphasis on pouring “jugs”).

2. Standing leg curls on the machine – 1-15.1x10, 1-2/-8 (Or deadlift with a barbell).

3. Hummer rear delt row

1x15, 1x12, 2x10 (2 min rest), or another POWER exercise for the rear deltoid (dumbbell fly
).
4. Leg press with medium legs, 1x15, 1x12, 1x8 reps (3 min rest).

5. Calves (between sets of standing leg curls) 3 sets of 15-20 reps.

Diet and training for the month of Ramadan with a complete ban on food and water for 20 hours a day, from Yuri Spasokukotsky for Muslims.

Let's say at 22.15 you can eat.

And at 3 o’clock in the morning you start dry fasting again.

Of course, in this mode, training should be short, strength training, 2 working sets per muscle group, no cardio or pumping.

At 20:30-20:45 you should start training and finish at 21:20 - 21:50, since exactly at 22:15 you should already be drinking and eating, due to the fact that every minute is precious to you.

Diet

Eating

Time

Menu

- a cocktail made from low-fat milk or kefir (preferably 1 liter and then drink water if possible)

- ready-made rice or cereal with the addition of low-fat cottage cheese or protein isolate powder

- meat, chicken or fish

- a lot of rice or durum wheat pasta

- half a liter of water or tea (or better yet a liter!) and go to bed

- drink a lot of liquid

- steak and brown or wild (brown rice)

Then, before the evening workout or evening meal (if there is no workout that day), you need to save energy, and fluids, sauna, work in the sun, aerobics, walking - everything needs to be minimized! Lie down more during the day and avoid losing calories!

Training should be done with slightly reduced weight and intensity. Squats with a barbell and deadlifts must be replaced for 20 days with hyperextension and leg extensions while sitting in a machine. The duration of the workout should be reduced by 20-30%, due to the number of sets.

Personal fitness and bodybuilding trainer Yuri Spasokukotsky has devoted his life to studying topics such as fitness, bodybuilding, diet and weight loss. Also, a lot of time was devoted to understanding the answers to the questions of how to build muscles, how to lose weight quickly, how to pump up your abs, and how to quickly remove your stomach and sides. Most of Yuri's clients (about 80%) are interested in losing weight and how to remove sides. Many people are interested in the horizontal bar, parallel bars, pull-ups, and everything related to street workout, getto workout, so Yuri began training in this direction. Many people don’t like that this trainer’s videos feature beautiful girls, boxing, wrestling, martial arts, hand-to-hand combat, but these topics still remain relevant. If you love strength and sports, then you are usually interested in various sports, not just iron! Yuri Spasokukotsky's training program is available for free, or rather its free version. On Yuri's channel on youtube.com you can watch more than 700 tutorials, learn exercises for losing weight, video lessons on how to gain weight, how to get rid of belly fat, how to reduce your waist, how to pump up your arms and especially how to pump up your pectoral muscles. Interestingly, leg exercises are much less popular than, say, a set of exercises for the chest muscles or exercises for biceps, triceps or shoulder exercises. Yuri uploads videos for free, but does not conduct free personal consultations, since this is not physically possible (more than 1000 people write per day), so personal individual training on the Internet takes place only through Skype. The holy month of Ramadan is perceived by most Muslims as a time of grace - an opportunity to start everything “from scratch”, repent of one’s sins, cultivate excellent habits of worship - remember the name of Allah more often, get up for prayers on time, read the Holy Quran.

In addition, the month of fasting - Uraza, is also an excellent opportunity to change your physical condition, namely, to lose weight, lose excess weight, and cleanse the body of toxins. And there is nothing wrong with devoting part of your time during the prayer to improving your body. The Holy Quran says: “And if you fast, then it is good for you, if indeed you are knowledgeable!” (2:184)

Who are these “knowledgeable” people? In this case, we mean those who fully understand the benefits of fasting. In this article, we will look in more detail at the benefits of fasting Uraza, how to hold it correctly and how to let it go, in order not only to receive a spiritual reward from the Almighty, but also to spend time beneficially for your body, namely, to lose weight and transform yourself.

How to hold Uraza correctly

The time of fasting is dawn, but the time for each point in the world is determined individually. As a rule, this is early in the morning or late at night. As reported in the collections of hadiths al-Bukhari (1923) and Muslim (1095), the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah be pleased with Him, said: Eat before dawn, for there is grace in suhoor.” Suhoor is the last meal before the day of fasting begins. The fast itself continues until sunset and is broken by a meal called iftar.

As a result, depending on where in the world a Muslim is, his fast can last, on average, from 3-4 hours to 10-12 hours a day. And perhaps more, Allah knows best. Thus, during the remaining time, the Muslim can eat.

From this moment all the fun begins. As a rule, a fasting person strives to consume as much food as possible, as they say, for future use. And this food is not always healthy. Quite the contrary - these are quite fatty dishes - khinkal, miracle, manti and so on. However, if we are talking about spending the month of fasting Uraza with maximum benefit for body and spirit, it is necessary to reconsider your eating habits.

What to eat during Uraza

In order to cleanse the body of toxins and lose weight during the fast, you need to leave only healthy foods in your diet, including:

  • Fish and seafood (flounder, salmon, tuna, trout, herring, perch, pollock, hake, squid, mussels)
  • Red and white meat (beef, chicken, rabbit, turkey)
  • Cereals (buckwheat, rice, millet, barley, whole wheat, etc.)
  • Dairy and fermented milk products (milk, kefir, yogurt, lightly salted cheeses, whey)
  • Nuts (walnuts, pine, hazelnuts, almonds)
  • Gluten
  • Legumes (peas, beans, beans, lentils)
  • Greenery
  • Vegetables (cucumbers, tomatoes, radishes, cabbage, hard potatoes)

Dates should be a must-have product during fasting. One of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah be pleased with Him, Anas, said that “The Messenger of Allah ended his fast with ripe dates before starting prayer. If there were none, he ate dried dates. If there were no dried dates, he drank water.” (Hadith reported by Abu Dawud, al-Hakim and Tirmidhi). Of course, if it is not possible to purchase dates, there is no harm or sin in this, but in no case should you forget about their benefits.

As you can see, the list of healthy products is quite extensive and it is quite possible to choose healthy and wholesome ingredients for preparing tasty and satisfying dishes. I assure you, it is not at all necessary to gorge yourself on buns, pies and fatty meats to satisfy your hunger. And in order to feel full and maintain this feeling during the fasting period, it is important to properly organize your diet. And this is the next point.

Diet during fasting

As mentioned above, the first meal after the fasting day of Eid is iftar. Uraza should be released with a date, if there is no date, then with water. We also know that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “If food has already been served, eat before evening prayer, and do not eat food hastily.” (Hadith reported by al-Bukhari and Muslim).

At the first meal, as, in principle, at subsequent meals, you should not overeat. The average portion for a woman is 200-300 grams; for a man, especially those leading an active lifestyle, the portions can be increased to 400-500 grams.

So, the first meal is clear. The next one should take place after 2-3 hours, the serving size is approximately half that of iftar. For women who do not lead a very active lifestyle, it is advisable to snack on fruit or dairy products.

It is important to note that for the second meal you should set aside time at least an hour before bedtime. Depending on whether the fasting person goes to bed or stays awake waiting for Suhoor, you can organize another not too heavy snack.

At the last meal - suhoor - it is necessary to eat dishes that are as balanced in composition as possible so that the energy and nutrients last for as long as possible.

Another important point is fluid intake. Everyone knows that a person should drink about 2 liters of clean water per day, this does not include teas and juices. Do not forget about this rule during fasting. You can drink water between meals - one or even several glasses.

Of course, a person will still experience hunger during fasting - this is its essence and, oddly enough, its benefit. After just a couple of hours of hunger, self-purification processes are launched in the body of the fasting person. There are cases where, with the help of Uraza, people got rid of many unpleasant diseases, such as atherosclerosis, rheumatism, asthma, autoimmune diseases and inflammatory processes.

Thus, we see that in the period between Iftar and Suhoor, you can fit in two full meals and one or two snacks, which is quite enough to saturate the body with useful microelements and vitamins. With proper organization of fasting, Uraza will not be stressful for the body, but will only bring benefits.

Question: I have a question, I myself was thin, 49-50 kg, and now I’ve lost even more weight, I probably weigh 45 kg, everyone tells me: “Don’t fast, you’re already thin,” but I’m able to keep it, The only thing is that slight dizziness and cloudiness occur during fasting, it’s just that my husband tells me that I’ve lost a lot of weight, I’m afraid he won’t like me. He always tells me that I’m thin, but I’m offended... what should I do - keep the fast or not?

Answer: In the name of Allah, merciful to everyone in this world and only to those who believe in the next!

All praise to Allah Almighty, peace and blessings to the Prophet Muhammad, his family, companions and everyone who follows them until the Day of Judgment. Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

Weight loss and, as a result, an unattractive appearance, in your opinion, is not a valid reason for not fasting. The pleasure of Allah is greater than the pleasure of people. For what reason, if not for the sake of the pleasure of the Almighty, does a fasting person refuse food and drink, and try to adhere to all the moral principles of Islam?

There is no need to take into account the advice of others. Fasting is not a diet; its main goal is not weight loss. Weakness and slight dizziness are the normal state of a fasting person. This is his wisdom - to feel weakness, to understand what difficulties and hardships the poor have to endure.

But, praise be to Allah, in the sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) there is a way out of this situation. One of your sunnahs (desirable actions) of fasting is suhur - eating before morning prayer, designed to alleviate the condition of the fasting person. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “ Eat before dawn, for in suhoor there is blessing "(Imam al-Bukhari 1923, Imam Muslim 1095).

Leaving a post due to illness

But there are also cases when a person cannot fast. These are sick people whom God-fearing, knowledgeable doctors have forbidden to fast. To leave a fast due to illness, it is necessary that two God-fearing Muslim doctors confirm that fasting will harm the health of the patient. When they recover, they will make up for the missed posts. If there is a danger to the life of the fasting person or a threat to the viability of any of his organs, then in this situation the person is simply obliged to break the fast. As it is said in the Qur'an (meaning): " Don't bring yourself to ruin "(Surah al-Baqarah, verse 195).

How will you get better?

Ramadan- this is the time when great grace (barakat) is sent down to believers. Perhaps what you consider unpleasant for your husband will turn out to be good for you. Observe the fast strictly, and Allah will make your husband happy with you.

For a Muslim, keeping the spirit is a sacred duty, but doctors advise approaching it responsibly: prepare in advance and follow all recommendations for a month. You should also know that long-term and strict dietary restrictions are not beneficial for every organism. The head of the gastroenterological department of the Republican Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tatarstan, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Honored Doctor of the Republic of Tatarstan, gastroenterologist Alfiya Kharisovna Odintsova helped us understand these issues in more detail.

Alfiya Kharisovna, as a gastroenterologist, what advice would you give to those who are fasting?

In general, patients with chronic diseases - any, not necessarily the gastrointestinal tract - should definitely consult with their doctor before starting treatment. Because there are diseases for which uraza is contraindicated.

In particular, it is better for a person with what disease not to keep his head down?

This issue is decided by the doctor who is seeing the patient. There are a lot of chronic diseases of the kidneys, liver, and lungs, for which doctors may advise you to abstain from exercise. As a gastroenterologist, among diseases of the gastrointestinal tract I can mention active stage stomach and duodenal disease, acute hepatitis, and inflammatory bowel diseases. The latter include nonspecific colitis and Crohn's disease. Uraza is contraindicated for patients with such diseases; the most beneficial for their health is four meals a day. For such patients, we specifically describe what to eat and in what quantity. Only after consulting a doctor with a clear conscience can you keep your spirits up, otherwise this is fraught with serious health problems.

Is it possible to skip the morning meal (suhoor)?

In the morning you definitely need to eat and drink. One meal, and even in the evening; This mode is not physiological. The morning meal should be regarded as a regular breakfast, that is, it should be sufficiently complete to at least somehow provide the body with energy for the whole day.

Is it permissible to go to bed immediately after the morning meal?

Doctors do not recommend doing this. After eating, hydrochloric acid is produced, and when a person goes to bed on a full stomach, the likelihood of gastrointestinal contents reflux into the esophagus increases. This is especially contraindicated for patients with gastroesophageal reflex disease, because the acidic contents of the stomach are thrown back and cause irritation of the esophagus. We usually give such patients a card stating that they should not go to bed for two hours after eating.

Can fasting be perceived as an alternative to diet or regarded as therapeutic fasting?

In no case should the diet be considered as an alternative to some kind of diet, because, in my opinion, it is something spiritual, and is accompanied by purely spiritual practices. It seems to me that these things cannot be placed side by side. And in general, if a person has a desire to lose excess weight, we do not recommend that he fast. It is better to limit the consumption of certain foods - eat often and in small portions. Because fasting itself is a lot of stress for the body.

Is this why many people gain weight during the fast?

Food eaten before lunch is burned and not stored. Food eaten after six in the evening is stored in the fat depot. Purely because there is such a law, this is how the hormones of the human body work.

Is it possible to develop diseases of the gastrointestinal tract during uration?

Gastrointestinal diseases can develop both during stress and during fasting. Changing the nature of nutrition - prolonged fasting can provoke the development of some diseases. You also need to remember this, and if any pain occurs, you should definitely get a doctor’s recommendations and ask whether you can continue to hold it or not.

People of what age group most often turn to a gastroenterologist? What problems?

We work with patients 16 and older. The rates of treatment are the same by age, it’s just that the nature of the diseases is different. In young people, more often duodenal ulcer or severe diseases such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease. Cancer and stomach ulcers are more common in older people. In general, it must be said that the number of gastrointestinal diseases among the population is growing from year to year, and the number of patients is increasing.

Why is this happening?

This, of course, is the impact of ecology on human health. The cause of many diseases cannot be said, but it is believed that hereditary predisposition plays a role, which is realized under the influence of environmental factors. There is an increase in patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. People of working age become sick.

Are there any signals that can let a person know that it’s time for him to think about the state of his gastrointestinal tract?

Unfortunately, doctors are often consulted in the later stages of the disease. And such signals, of course, exist. If you have strange, recurring abdominal pain, diarrhea, loose stools, constipation, severe weakness, dizziness, you should definitely go to the doctor, at least just to make sure that there is no reason for concern. If someone has a family history of stomach cancer, then they are at risk and should definitely see a doctor.
