DIY soap making. Laundry soap at home: a simple recipe

Airy foam, enchanting aroma and thin jets of water - all this, like nothing else, is able to cheer up in the morning and relax before a restful sleep. But double pleasure will be delivered by the understanding that the bar, gently sliding over the body, was made independently and exclusively for oneself. Therefore, it is worth familiarizing yourself with the simplest technology of how to make soap at home in accordance only with personal preferences and needs.

Soap Feather Test

To do the same, just your own unique soap, you do not need so much. In fact, the recipe is very simple: the main thing is to strictly follow the instructions.

Step one

We purchase components. The base will be baby soap. It is advisable to purchase its hypoallergenic version, without fragrances. In addition, you should choose an oil base. As a rule, for beginners it is recommended to take sunflower or olive oil. But, having worked out the technology, you can start experimenting with other oils, for example, rosehip, grape seed, coconut or sea buckthorn. The third ingredient needed to make soap is glycerin. Its presence is highly desirable, because it is thanks to it that a special moisture-saving layer is created on the skin. And finally, boiling water.

Step two

We are preparing a "working" toolkit. Before brewing soap, you should prepare a kit for creating at home. So, you need a grater for the formation of large flakes, medical goggles and gloves, three containers (for creating a steam bath and forming soap shavings), a whisk and molds.

Step three

The mystery of soap making. For this basic recipe, you need to grate 180 grams of baby soap. Needless to say, in the process of preparing soap flakes, it is necessary to protect the eyes and the respiratory system? If yes, then before starting the soap making process, you should protect your own vision and breathing with glasses and a mask.

Once the flakes have been cooked, you can proceed directly to cooking. To do this, five tablespoons of oil are mixed with two of the same tablespoons of cosmetic glycerin and heated in a steam bath to about 40 degrees. After that, gently add soap flakes and boiling water. By the way, the volume of the latter should be 100 ml. During the cooking process, the mass must be constantly stirred, and this is best done with a whisk, which will help to avoid lumps.

As soon as the consistency of the mixture began to resemble mashed potatoes, it is removed from the bath and begins to be molded. For this, molds prepared in advance for the future soap are greased with the oil on the basis of which it was prepared. And only then the mass is carefully placed to solidify.

By the way, you can use almost any container: these are baby pies, silicone baking dishes, and special professional molds for soap makers. As soon as the mixture hardens, it should be removed and transferred to paper, which can be dried in the open air for three days.

As you can see, both the recipe and the process are so simple that they are available even to those who have never tried themselves in this type of creativity. However, unfortunately, the result will be the same if additional ingredients are not included in the recipe.

Different soap is needed, different soap is important

And in order for the soap to become the most beloved, but, in addition, it is distinguished by its practicality and aesthetic appearance, additional ingredients are added to it during the creation process.

Scrub soap

Making it is not as difficult as many people think. It is enough just to slightly supplement the basic composition. So, the best properties of soft exfoliation of dead skin cells are ground coffee, ground cherry or apricot pits, oatmeal, crushed dry medicinal herbs and inflorescences, culinary poppy.

There is another feature of this type of homemade soap - its oil base. It is worth abandoning the types proposed above, replacing them with grape seed oil (soften and tone the skin), shea and sesame (rejuvenating and tonic effect), almonds and cocoa (regenerating and anti-inflammatory effect).

How to make homemade scrub soap?

In general, the process is similar to what was presented above. Only instead of the traditional oil base, the oil is chosen that most closely matches the functions of the future soap. But it is worth adding scrubs only when the mixture has been removed from the bath, but before pouring into molds.

Cosmetic soap

Your favorite soap can become a kind of mini-salon. To do this, it is enough to add certain additives to the ready-made mixture. So, to remove excessive redness of the skin, honey is injected into the soap mass. At the same time, it is enough to add three tablespoons of a sweet product to the basic recipe presented above.

In order to gradually even out the skin tone and partially whiten it, it is enough to add white clay powder. Also, keep in mind that the essential oils of many plants are excellent ingredients. For example, orange is perfect for those who have an uneven skin surface. Bergamot and eucalyptus are suitable for those who suffer from low immunity.

But you can just add your favorite scent and enjoy the notes on your skin. To do this, it will be enough just to add a few drops of perfume to the finished, but not frozen mixture. Only perfume should be used, not perfumed and, of course, not eau de toilette.

It's worth knowing: trial and error

Creativity is called a trial and error process for a reason. So soap making can overshadow the fairly common mistakes that most novice soapmakers make.

The most common of these is to add more base oil than necessary. Such a volume will not only make the soap too greasy, but it will also stop lathering. Therefore, it is best to strictly follow the recipe: one spoonful of oil per 90 grams.

The second mistake is not understanding the staining processes. It is best to use food coloring to create the shades at the start. But with natural it is best to "work out" the cooking process by the method of samples. So, if you add turmeric, you can really get different shades of yellow. But the hibiscus petals, instead of intense red, will give the soap-maker a dirty green hue. Indeed, some plant components, when reacting with glycerin, "behave" in an unpredictable manner.

If you want to learn how to make soap yourself, then read the article. Here you will find a detailed description of the process and what ingredients are needed for this.

Nowadays, you can find a wide variety of soaps on supermarket shelves. There is a baby soap, there is a cream soap, there is also an antibacterial soap. However, making a product with your own hands is much more pleasant. Moreover, buying raw materials for him is not a problem. Also, soap making is a kind of hobby, because the product obtained after cooking pleases not only with its pleasant aroma, but also with its beautiful appearance, original form.

DIY soap making kit. Ingredients for handmade soap

You can make your own soap three options:

  • from the usual children's, just grate it, melt, then add dye, oils and other ingredients, pour into molds
  • from soap base- the principle of preparation is the same as for baby soap
  • preparation of a product from alkalis and fatty acids- a laborious process that requires compliance with safety regulations
Necessary components and utensils for making soap

Components for making soap

Handmade Soap Templates and Molds

If you decide to engage in soap making seriously and make a profit from the sale, then you will need templates that indicate the composition of the products, the name, etc. Such templates can be downloaded from special portals. In addition to labels, you can also use various shapes. Such containers are made of plastic, rubber or silicone. You can not use molds made of glass, metal, because it is problematic to get the product out of solid containers, the metal corrodes.

Handmade soap molds

Heat resistant plastic molds are made taking into account the fact that the soap base will be poured hot into them, and the molds, in turn, will not deform. Their great advantage is that there are a lot of such products - there are both small figures and large ones available for making several bars of homemade soap at the same time.

Plastic molds for soap

Silicone forms are also convenient to use. They do not need special care and, moreover, they are soft, which greatly simplifies the "release" of the soap when it is ready. The service life of such a container is longer than that of plastic ones.

Silicone molds for making soap

IMPORTANT: Before pouring the base, grease the molds with oil, then it will be easier for the soap to come out of the molds. If this does not help, then put the container with soap in the freezer, after a while pull it out by pressing on the mold.

DIY soap flowers

If you are a creative person who like to do crafts with your own hands, then you yourself can mold flowers from soap. Some people have a doubt - is this possible, because the soap base is not plastic? To make the material softer, you need to apply a little trick when preparing the base.

To prepare it you will need:

  • base (soap) or baby soap - 230 grams
  • regular gelatin sold in supermarkets - one large spoon
  • water, or a decoction of herbs - 8-9 large spoons
  • dyes, aromatic oils - optional
  • ordinary knife, knife for peeling potatoes

Soap-based roses

Procedure

  1. Pour gelatin with water (cold), leave for 43-56 minutes to swell
  2. Prepare the base - grate it, melt, add a teaspoon of water there
  3. Then pour aromatic oils, dye, etc. into the base, mix the resulting mass with ready-made gelatin
  4. Pour the mixture into round tins.
  5. When solidified, pull out the resulting cylinders
  6. It now remains only to cut the petals for the rose with a vegetable knife and mold the flower, like from plasticine

Flowers can also be made simply in special molds. It is enough to fill the container and, a few minutes after hardening, take out the finished flower from it. Any flight of fantasy is welcome. You can come up with different shades for the flower and leaves.

To get a honey, healthy soap, you need to take eighty grams of a white base. Cut it into small cubes, melt in the microwave. Do not overheat the mixture above 64 degrees, otherwise the soap will not foam. Add 45 grams of unsweetened honey.

Stir the mixture thoroughly with a wooden stick. Then add 4 (citrus) drops to the aroma oil mixture. Pour in two tablespoons of base oil (olive oil or rosehip oil). Handmade soap oils. What oils are added to handmade soaps?

To make soap at home, base oils or the so-called base oils and aromatic oils are used. Their choice must be approached more than responsibly. After all, quality products will not be cheap. The manufacturer most often lowers prices if there are chemical components in stock. What kind of oil to add - decide for yourself. The main thing to keep in mind is that you or your family members are allergic to this or that type of product. And we talked about the proportions in the paragraph - Handmade glycerin soap.

Oil selection table by skin type

It is best for novice soap makers to start making a product from baby soap, base soap. Making soap from scratch is more difficult. Experienced soapmakers apply their technology. They advise adding decoctions of chamomile and calendula herbs to the product instead of water. Then the prepared soap has a beneficial effect on the skin.

Video: How to make soap at home yourself?

It is recommended for novice soap makers to train in an ordinary children's room without additives and fragrances. If you are confident in yourself, then purchase a professional soap base in specialized stores. They sell white, transparent and multi-colored bases with the addition of oils in packs of 250, 500 and 1,000 grams.

What to buy:

Base oil

It can be anything: coconut, almond, olive, castor, grape and apricot seeds. The oil is almost entirely composed of organic compounds: fatty acids, vitamins, waxes, microelements that are extremely beneficial to the skin.

Add no more than ½ teaspoon of oil to 100 g of soap base. An overdose of essential oils can cause severe allergies, and the soap will stop lathering.

There are many varieties of base oils, each with its own therapeutic effect and infusing homemade soaps with skin-friendly properties.

Base oil Skin type Property
From apricot kernels Any Saturates the skin with vitamins: A, B, C, E, F. Moisturizes, softens, increases elasticity, normalizes the function of the sebaceous glands
Grape seed Oily and mixed Regulates the function of sweat glands, restores the natural oiliness of the skin
Castor Dry and mixed Well removes age spots, whitens and nourishes the skin, fights fine wrinkles

Cocoa Any Accelerates the process of regeneration of damaged skin cells, eliminating various cosmetic defects

What to buy:

Handmade monochromatic soaps can be made using food grade water-soluble dyes.

  • Cocoa and coffee make the soap chocolate.
  • The chamomile infusion will give the soap a yellow tint.
  • Saffron and curry are bright yellow.
  • Spinach, dill and parsley are green.
  • Beetroot juice - red or pink.
  • Essential chamomile oil - blue.

Do not use petals of red rose (gives a dirty gray color) or hibiscus tea (gives a dirty green color) to get red shades.

Natural dyes have low lightfastness and quickly fade in the sun. Therefore, such soap must be stored in a dark place.

For multi-color layered soaps, use liquid or dry pigment in standard and neon shades. Pigment dyes give a bright, rich color and make the soap slightly matte. Before adding to the soap base, dry pigment must be rubbed with oil or glycerin.

Such a colorant does not need to be dissolved beforehand and is added dry to the molten base.

What to buy:

Additives

To give homemade soap additional properties, various additives are used: glycerin, cream, honey, herbal infusions, dried flowers.

For example, finely ground coffee, oatmeal, and ground nut shells can be added to the scrub soap during the preparation process. Some of these formulations are easy to prepare yourself. But, for example, bamboo powder or baobab fruit will have to be purchased.

How to make homemade soap

Step 1

Prepare all the necessary ingredients in advance: dyes, oils, fillers, and so on. Cut the soap base into small cubes and melt in a water bath. Make sure that the substrate temperature does not rise above 60 ° C. Otherwise, bubbles will form in the soap, and its quality will deteriorate.

Step 2

When the soap base is completely melted, add any base oil you like, dye and one teaspoon of filler, such as ground, to it. In this case, coffee will act as a colorant and give the product a deep chocolate shade.

Step 3

Pour the mass into a mold, after sprinkling it with alcohol from a spray bottle. If you are working with several layers, then when pouring a new one, do not forget to spray the previous one with alcohol and lightly scratch its surface for better adhesion of the layers. The surface of the soap can be decorated with whole coffee beans.

Dear readers, I think you will agree with how pleasant it is to pamper yourself with something as pleasant and aromatic as natural high-quality cosmetics. And how can you please the usual, familiar soap! Although why should he have to be ordinary? And we can all the more make it completely extraordinary if we cook it ourselves.

Svetlana Sarycheva will tell you how to make handmade soap today. Like many needlewomen, she took up soap making on maternity leave and began to regularly make home cosmetics, take orders, participate in fairs and conduct master classes. I think we will have something to learn from her. I give her the floor.

Hello dear readers of the interesting and useful blog of Irina Zaitseva! I hope my recommendations and a step-by-step master class with a photo will help you master a new exciting business - how to make soap.

Where to begin

Natural soap is useful. In addition, handmade soap is the very hand-made soap that does not have to gather dust on the far shelves.

For some time it will remain a decoration of the bathroom, but in the end it will certainly go into business.

Making the simplest homemade soap is easy. I will tell you how to take the first steps in soap making at no special cost. After that, you can decide for yourself whether you are ready to seriously engage in this and whether you should purchase everything you need to create more complex options for soaps, peels, scrubs and other types of home cosmetics.

What do you need for handmade soap?

  • cutting board;
  • knives;
  • cup or mug (solid on the inside);
  • stirring spoons;
  • a microwave oven or two pans for a water bath;
  • the form;
  • soap base (or grated baby soap);
  • powdered sugar (optional);
  • food coloring;
  • spices or cosmetic clay;
  • oils, honey, tea broth, milk to add to soap.

Soap base

In principle, kits for beginner soapmakers can now be bought even in a children's store. However, I advise you to start differently. To make your own soap at home, purchase a small piece of soap base from a craft store.

This basic soap base is made from vegetable fats. It is not tested on fauna. There is no free alkali in this base, which can irritate the skin.

In fact, this is a semi-finished soap without aroma, which can be white or transparent.

Nowadays, solid bases are becoming more and more widespread, already containing certain additions of natural origin (oils, crushed plants, etc.). There are also soft bases suitable, first of all, for making shampoo, gel, mousse, milk, etc.

Take a close look at any base soap base before purchasing. If it was carefully transported, stored and packaged, then the blocks should be clean, without adhering small debris. Opaque bubbles in a transparent base mean that it is damaged (most likely, the base was kept in the cold).

The highest quality brands of solid bases for homemade soaps melt evenly and quickly and fully accept aromatic oils.

What is the best soap base? What to choose?

The handmade soap made from them hardens and foams perfectly. These basic foundations of high quality soapmakers with experience include the English Crystal, the Belgian Tensianol and the German foundations Activ and Zetessap. As for the latter, it should be borne in mind that it is produced exclusively in a transparent form and without any additives.

Some sellers also offer a white solid base Zetessap, but in fact it is still the same transparent base that those who bought it at the factory themselves melted it in combination with titanium dioxide. This substance turns the base white and is practically insoluble in water.

Slightly Above Average - Chinese Basics. For authors of complex cosmetics, they may not be suitable, but soap makers working with fatty oils will succeed. If you do not add the right amount of oils and fragrances to this handmade soap, then it will smell noticeably of the "original" soap and dry the skin a little. However, foam will still appear.

Malaysian soap bases are considered quite satisfactory for handmade soap.

However, I do not advise buying the basics of Russian production (Myloff, DS-CLRC, ProLab, etc.) and Bulgaria (Re-St, Relina MSDS, etc.). These cheap bases can dry out or, on the contrary, release moisture, and also not completely solidify in the molds.

The best temperature for storing a solid base is +15 .. + 20 ˚С.

You can save on a soap base by using crushed baby soap instead. Although rubbing solid soap with a grater is a rather laborious process. And you need to melt it in the same way as a soap base.

How to make soap

And now my master class with a photo on how to make soap yourself. Here's my recipe, let's get started! Cut a hundred-gram piece of soap base (mine is white, without any additives) cut into cubes.

Prepare the molds. Since I'm talking about the first experience, including in terms of cost savings, existing silicone muffin molds are fine. Pre-rinse them with cold water.

Let's go back to the soap base. The cubes should be melted in the microwave or water bath. Perhaps the microwave is more convenient. Just remember that you need to take not just sturdy dishes, but one inside which there are no drawings, shiny stripes, etc.

Don't melt the base all the way. At high power, a couple of minutes is enough. The base should not boil! Otherwise, the moisture will evaporate, and the required ph (acid-base balance) level in homemade soap will be disturbed.

If you don't have a microwave, make a water bath. To do this, take two pots - larger and smaller. Pour water into a large one and heat it up. Place the soap base cubes in the small one.

Important points:

Use a large heavy-bottomed saucepan to avoid heavy boiling;
at the bottom you can lay a linen or cotton napkin;
do not put a small saucepan in a large one until the water has boiled;
cover the small saucepan with a lid.

When placing the second in the first saucepan, make sure that its bottom only slightly touches the water. This is how the water bath will turn out: the future soap, which you put in a small pot, will be heated and softened by the action of the hot steam rising from the water from the large pot.

The rest of the cubes will dissolve on their own in the process of further stirring.

Stir the mixture and let it cool slightly. If you have food coloring in your kitchen, add a few drops.

We supplement the base with natural oils

Now you can add oil to the base. I have solid cocoa butter.

You may have previously bought solid or liquid pharmaceutical oils for cosmetic and medicinal purposes. For soap, a small bar or a few drops is enough. Olive oil and glycerin will also work.

Glycerin moisturizes well and protects the skin from adverse environmental factors.

Softens the skin and makes it soft. By forming an airtight barrier on the skin, it prevents it from drying out by retaining moisture. This oil is hypoallergenic and suitable for children.

Cocoa butter has emollient and regenerative properties.

Apricot kernel oil has a regenerating, rejuvenating, tonic effect. It helps restore skin firmness and elasticity.

Nourishes and softens dry skin.

Grape seed oil reduces pores, tones and refreshes.

Gives a rejuvenating effect.

Calendula oil has an antiseptic, bactericidal, anti-inflammatory, emollient and moisturizing effect.

Suitable for supporting dry, damaged or aging skin. It promotes cell regeneration and strengthening of capillaries, relieves swelling and redness, eliminates skin peeling.

Other soap additives

You can also add tea broth, honey or milk to handmade soaps for smooth and soft skin.

If the soap is supplemented with a mixture of spices (cinnamon, ginger, etc. - we choose according to taste and desire) or a small amount of cosmetic clay, then it will have a slight peeling effect.

Stir again after all additions to avoid bubbles and lumps. If in the future you will prepare several bars of soap at once, then a mixer or blender will come in handy. Fear not: soap base and other ingredients are easy to clean!

Pour the mixture into a mold.

In a silicone mold, homemade soap will harden quickly (you will have to wait a maximum of an hour), but after that be sure to dry your fragrant product for another hour or two.

How to make liquid soap at home

From the remains of solid soap, you can make liquid soap, which will last for a long time. Dry the remaining soap and grate it. Boil water and mix with soap. Add a few drops of glycerin (for gel consistency) and lemon or orange juice (for flavor).

Stir the solution again, and then pour it into a container with a dispenser. Insist for three days, remembering to shake occasionally.

More recently, making soap with your own hands at home was not possible. It's not even about the ingredients, but about the lack of basic skills and information on how to do it correctly. Today soap making has become a pleasant hobby. It allows you to create unique natural cosmetics based on natural ingredients and aromatic oils.

For some people, making natural soaps with medicinal additives has become a source of additional income. Such a product is in great demand both for personal needs and as a gift. Below, we invite you to familiarize yourself with the specifics of the process of making soap with your own hands, the main nuances and necessary components.

DIY soap at home can be made from the following materials:

  • bars of baby soap;
  • purchased soap base;
  • make it from scratch.

This product also comes in a variety of shapes and densities:

  • solid. With this form, the hot liquid base is poured into prepared containers and solidifies there;
  • liquid form - creamy, transparent, with or without addition of solid particles, etc.

Handmade soap is also convenient because you can add any components you like to it: herbs, flowers, honey, crushed seeds, perfumes, dyes, abrasive particles, etc. It all depends on the flight of your own imagination and taste preferences. So, we will consider several techniques of soap making at home in more detail.

DIY homemade soap based on baby soap

For this recipe, you need baby soap, which you can get at any hardware store. We use honey, milk and cosmetic oils as additives. However, you can diversify it with those ingredients that you and your skin like: perfume compositions, herbal decoctions, abrasive particles, etc.

Materials and equipment:

  • 100 g milk;
  • 100 g baby soap;
  • 1 tbsp honey or brown sugar;
  • 1 tbsp. l. cosmetic oil of your choice (olive, apricot, grape seed, rose, etc.);
  • aroma oil (2-3 drops are enough);
  • melting bowl;
  • steam bath or microwave;
  • grater;
  • stirring spoon or stick;

Make black soap

If you don't have one, make one yourself. It is made using black mica. There is no need to add aromatic oil to it, as it requires very little.

Mixing mica with a base can be difficult - it does not dissolve well in a soap base and can clump together. To prevent this from happening, initially dilute it in glycerin or alcohol.

Note: One tablespoon of black mica requires 100 ml of base. If you need more black soap, increase the proportions accordingly.

With glycerin

  • Place 1 spoonful of mica in a glass dish. Add a few milliliters of glycerin to this and mix well.
  • Add 100g of melted clear base and stir.
  • Place the mixture in the microwave for 20 seconds. Repeat as necessary.
  • Stir slowly and thoroughly until the mixture acquires a dark, homogeneous texture. After that, it will be ready to be poured into the molds.

With alcohol

The technique is the same, but instead of glycerin, you will use alcohol.

  • Mix 5-6 drops of rubbing alcohol with one tablespoon of mica. Please note: with alcohol, the resulting substance will be thinner than the version with glycerin.
  • Add 100 ml of melted base, stir and microwave for 20 seconds. Repeat if necessary.

Black soap without additives

If you don't have alcohol or glycerin on hand, follow these steps.

  • Melt 100 ml of clear base.
  • Add 1 spoon of black mica to it: it will float on top. This method is more time consuming - you will have to stir and shake the container many times to completely remove the lumps.

Pour the prepared black mass into any molds and wait about one hour. When the mass is completely solid, remove it and cut into small pieces in the form of watermelon seeds. Set the "bones" aside for now.

Melt the base

This soap recipe uses ingredients per 3 bars. If you plan to do more, adjust the number of components. Each piece weighs about 150-200 grams.

Cut 250 grams of clear base into sticks and place in a glass container. Place the container in the microwave for several periods of 30 seconds. After every 30 seconds, take out the container and mix. Do not overdo it or allow it to boil, otherwise the substance will become rubbery. If any lumps remain in the container, stir slowly. The heat of the molten mass will dissolve them.

Add color and flavor

Pour 5-6 drops of liquid watermelon red dye into the melted base and stir slowly.

Using a pipette, add 5 drops of aromatic oil to the substance.

Stir slowly until the liquid is smooth. Always stir the base slowly to avoid bubble formation!

Add white

While the first layer hardens, prepare the second. This will require approximately 100 grams of a white base. Pour 1-2 drops of aromatic oil into the molten mass. You don't need to paint this layer!

Use a thermometer to control the temperature of the white mass - it should be around 130-140 °.

Make sure the red watermelon layer has hardened enough. Sprinkle it liberally with alcohol, do not forget about the edges. This will help the layers adhere better to each other. After all, there is nothing worse than flaking soap, making all your work in vain!

When the white mass reaches the desired temperature, pour about 30-40 grams of it into each cavity. Spray with rubbing alcohol again to remove bubbles.

Fill in green

While the white layer hardens, cook the green one. To do this, add 5-6 drops of emerald green dye and 2-3 ml of aromatic oil to the molten base (150-200 g).

Spray the hardened white layer liberally with alcohol.

Control the temperature of the mass and when it reaches 140 degrees, pour the green liquid in equal portions into the mold.
