How to enter a theater institute (university, college)? How to enter drama school the first time.

To understand whether it is worth going to a theater school, honestly answer yourself a few questions. Do you understand that acting is a difficult and exhausting profession? That their work is not always accompanied by recognition and success? After all, there is a time when an actor becomes completely unclaimed. And vice versa: are you ready for constant attention, publicity, lack of free time and personal space? If you rarely visit the theater, have never been backstage, you are not interested in new films, then most likely the acting path is not for you ...

Exams for admission to a theater university

The competition for admission to well-known theater schools is huge, often the number of people applying for one place exceeds 200. Therefore, universities conduct an "audition" before accepting documents from the applicant. The qualifying round consists of several stages. This is reading a fable or poem, song, dance and improvisation. However, you need to be prepared for the fact that at the stage of reading a poem, for example, you will also be asked to sing or dance. There are no strict rules here - the environment is creative.

You need to be prepared for the fact that you may be interrupted, stopped, asked to read (sing) something else. They can also ask various questions: for example, about the content of the recited work or about your attitude towards it.

It is also difficult to name certain evaluation criteria. Here a lot depends on the "master" - the person who is recruiting the course, as well as on the school of the theatrical university. In order to understand which qualities are more valued and which manner of playing is preferable, it is necessary to visit the performances of the corresponding theater in advance.

Preparation for admission to the theater institute

Special preparatory courses are held both within the walls of the university (school) and are taught by private organizations. Teachers of good preparatory courses should help you choose a repertoire, highlight your best sides, develop acting skills: improvisation, liberation, an organic existence within the framework of the stage. Of course, they help you choose and rehearse monologues, fables, poems for admission to drama school. It is great if the training course also includes classes with a psychologist, exercises in stage speech, correct breathing, and choreography. However, the main emphasis is still on improvisation, because this is the main thing that people pay attention to when entering.

If you finally decided to enter a theater university, the following recommendations will help in this difficult matter:

  • submit documents at once to all theatrical schools (universities) in your city, so you will increase your chances of admission;
  • be sure to find out exactly who is recruiting the course, what their requirements, preferences, nature of teaching;
  • visit several performances of the sponsored theater;
  • for the performance, prepare not one fable (song, poem), but several. It is better if they belong to different genres (lyrical, humorous);
  • if you have any skills that are not directly related to acting, still mention them when applying. Perhaps you are playing a musical instrument - take it with you. Any rehearsal room should also have a piano;
  • pay special attention to the clothes in which you appear before the commission. Clothing should be simple and modest, not "overshadowing" you with its brightness. It is advisable for girls to wear a mid-length skirt. And as little makeup as possible! Experienced actors are advised to get used to their stage clothes, put them on two or three times before going out;
  • another important aspect is the hairstyle. It is better to remove the hair from the face, open the forehead. A bun or a tail is ideal. Bangs are not desirable. It's easier for guys here, but still don't get carried away with styling products;
  • on stage, try to behave naturally and at ease. Do not be arrogant and vulgar, try to do everything that the examiners ask you to do, but at the same time, know how to defend your point of view;
  • in such a matter as acting, you need to clearly feel the "golden mean". Not to overact, but also to be remembered by the members of the commission for their brightness, individuality.

Finally, remember. If you fail, don't be upset. Many famous and talented actors did not enter a theater university the first time.

1. It is necessary to start preparing not the day before and not a month before, but certainly a year, if not two before the intended attempt. A hastily learned text is not what the commission wants. You are asked not to demonstrate memory, but the ability to appropriate text, make it your own, analyze and visualize what has been analyzed :)) According to the actor's (professional) take, it takes at least 2 weeks for the parsed text to shrink in the head. This is after all the rehearsals, showdowns, and so on. 2 weeks net life time in this text for a professional. Are you not a professional yet?

2. The best way to prepare is with a tutor, ie. with a person who knows what theater is. It is best to try to find a teacher of a theater university as a tutor. Simply because they know how to explain what is required, because they do it with their students every day. The cost of such classes in Moscow is from 20 to 40 dollars for 2 hours. According to the reviews of those who used the services of tutors, private lessons really give a lot of new things, reaching literal revelations. Just remember: NEVER ADMIT ON THE COMMISSION THAT YOU ARE DOING THEATER anywhere or with anyone :))

3. You can also prepare for preparatory courses, which are usually available at every theater university (at least in Moscow). Usually courses last from a month to three, classes are one to two days a week. Again, according to the reviews of those who have tried, the best preparatory courses in Moscow are courses at the Shchukin School. They last 3 months, classes are held on weekends, two pairs a day. The principles of stage speech, the basics of acting, rhythm are studied, as well as lectures on the history of the theater. The latter is not found anywhere in Moscow, and the Department of Theater History in Shchuk is the strongest among other universities (IMHO, of course). The cost of the courses is about 3500 rubles (data for 2003). At the Moscow Art Theater School, courses last a month and cost about $ 50. You must enroll in the courses, i.e. go through something like an audition. However, the selection there is much less strict, they filter out completely unsuitable comrades. Classes in the courses are held in a group, therefore, they are inferior in quality and richness to classes with a private teacher. Although it is useful to combine the teacher and the courses. On the courses, you have the opportunity to find out the general level of those who will enter this year (as they say, look at others and show yourself), get acquainted with the teachers of a particular school and with the requirements that apply to applicants.

4. Self-education is compulsory. You have to read a lot and persistently. Here knowledge of the school curriculum is not enough. Here you need to understand it. :)) In addition, you need knowledge of the works of Stanislavsky, Chekhov (and developed your own opinion on this matter), read more on the history of theater and literature. You are still entering a creative university, not a machine plant :)). An actor cannot be dumb and uneducated.

If you do not have the opportunity to use the services of tutors and courses. It's hard, of course. But, in the end, statistics say that our biggest stars are the inhabitants of the provinces. Usually, they also, having reached the zenith of fame, still admit that they participated in amateur performances or attended a theater studio :)). As for my personal opinion, it seems very doubtful that it is possible to enter a theater university without ever having to deal with the stage before. Perhaps, teachers of theatrical universities are right in something, fearing graduates of amateur theatrical studios ... For, of course, there is a great chance that you will get a good stamp there. But after all, you have been given the head so as not to stamp, but to work on yourself. None of the normal directors of theater studios tolerates and does not like cliches. Exactly the same as the venerable theatrical figures. According to my observations, the presence or absence of a stamp depends only on the personality of the actor. Some buy into the first applause, which they receive after reading a verse on a New Year tree in grade 5 - and now they continue to read the same way as before Santa Claus, like - I'm already smart, I know how to play :)). Others do not perceive awards at festivals and competitions as the limit of their capabilities, but carefully analyze their videos, read, think, polish their technique and speech.

6. About completely independent work (it is also the most important one). Remember, you can't do theater on schedule. This is either always done, or not at all. Those. in your head there should be continuous work on passages, on the accumulation of factual material, observing others. All-all drag into "your piggy bank" of acting experience.

To enter the theater you need:
Know that having entered, you do not automatically become an artist and a star!
And
1.Want to enroll
2. Know what you are going and doom yourself.
3. To love this business wholeheartedly and not to imagine oneself in anything else.
4. Read carefully all the requirements and rules on the websites of the universities where you are going to enter
5. You need to try all the institutes at once.
6. Prepare the program one year before admission.
7. Take courses at the institute or with a teacher who will help you choose the right program
8. Find out in advance about all the tours and exams
9. Do not worry about the exam. A passing score is enough. There you gain points through entrance exams.
You will need a lot of strength, health and perseverance.

In 2011. according to the results of admission:

in SHEPK - minimum score 330 (for 3 introductory + USE)
in PIKE - min score 430 (4 entry + USE)
in GITIS - min score 386 (3 entry. + USE)

MINIMUM USE POINTS 2011
GITIS

RUSSIAN 36 points
Literature 29 points
In others it is the same. Plus three to five points, but not higher than 41)))))))

QUESTION ABOUT MY DAUGHTER ALICE'S SUCCESS

She entered VGIK and GITIS, studies at GITIS - Morozov's workshop. Budget.

People often ask how to understand your university or not... My opinion is.
Well, in principle, you can calculate. You need to watch the performances of the Moscow Art Theater and understand if you want to play in them. Enter the Moscow Art Theater and see the Vakhtangovskys (Pike). Gytis does not have its own theater, so you need to watch the performances of the Master who is recruiting. VGIK rests on working in front of the camera, so after it it is difficult to get a job in the theater. Of course, this is not a universal advice, but you can at least feel yours - not yours.

And my question is for those who are eager to enter.

Are you ready to study with such a schedule for every day (including Saturday) ???

This is the schedule of one day 1 course
9.30 - 11.00 Foreign literature
11.05 - 12.35 Foreign theater
13.05 - 14.30 Mastery
14.35 - 16.00 Mastery
16.05 - 17.30 Mastery
17.35 - 19.00 Mastery
19.05 - 20.30 Mastery
20.35 - 22.00 Mastery

Many still asked if they would have time to earn extra money somewhere.)))))))))

Are you ready to wear chairs for six months, depict objects and actions, learn to roll and stand on your ears?
The most difficult thing is sketches. Coming up with plots, showing. Learn now. Circumstances, goal, event (prevents the goal from being achieved) and the resolution of the situation.

about admission
1.the teacher's article Filshtinsky

How to enter the theater - this question, perhaps, was asked at least once by everyone who lives with love for cinema and theater, who sees himself exclusively on stage or the big screen and dreams of national glory. If you are ready for the hard life of a theater student, do not mind studying from morning till night and working on yourself every day, then hurry up to familiarize yourself with the details of the admission process and start preparing now.

The process of admission to theater educational institutions is reduced to several stages, which are fundamentally no different from each other.

Selection consultation

First, the applicant goes through a selection consultation and pre-examination auditions, which are called tours.

Upon arrival at the university, you must personally present your passport. In some educational institutions, in order to get to the qualifying consultation, you need to make an appointment in advance by sending an email to the email address that can be found on the university website, and in some you simply find yourself in a live queue.

In order not to miss the period of these auditions, you need to find out on the website of the educational institution the number of the selection committee and find out the dates. Consultations usually start as early as April.

Pre-exam auditions

They prepare a program for the tours - they select a certain material with which a potential student will speak at the auditions. It is imperative to prepare a poem, an excerpt from prose, a fable, which you learn by heart.

All auditions read the same program - having presented the same material at the qualifying consultation, no further changes should be made.

Members of the commission listen to applicants - as a rule, these are several teachers of the university and a master - the one who is gaining a course for himself. The master may not listen to you on the first round, but he will certainly appear on the next.

The first to third round auditions are considered entrance exams. On them, applicants again perform with their program and perform additional creative tasks.

Vocals are always checked - this does not mean that you will become a singer, but vocal preparation is an important skill for working in theater and film. But different teachers may ask you to show anything - you will have to dance and show the ability to improvise, to demonstrate your other talents - playing a musical instrument, gymnastic skills, etc.

Exams

The apotheosis is the so-called competition - the final creative competition for admission to a theater university. It differs from previous auditions in that the number of applicants is significantly reduced, claims to the selection are becoming tougher, and the maximum number of teachers led by the master will listen to the participants.

If the applicant has not previously demonstrated his vocal skills and plasticity, they may be asked to show them at the competition. Perhaps they will be asked to do a sketch - to play a mini-scene on a given topic, to tell tongue twisters.

After the creative competition, there are general educational contests.

Graduates of Russian schools submit their results on the Unified State Exam (USE) in Russian language and literature, and applicants with higher education, graduated from school before 2009 and foreigners take an exam in these two subjects at the university itself.

Applicants to Ukrainian universities submit the results of the External Independent Assessment (OIE) on the history of Ukraine and the Ukrainian language and literature; the exam in these subjects is taken at the university by foreigners, people with higher education and those who received secondary education before 2008.

All applicants write an essay and participate in the colloquium. This stage is a test of the general erudition and cultural background of the applicant, therefore, if there are gaps in this part, it is worth preparing better: there will be questions about literature, history, theater, theory of performing arts.

Only after passing the qualifying consultation at the educational institution, the applicant can apply. This is done in order to weed out unnecessary people at the initial stages and not waste resources on processing unnecessary documentation - those who want to enter a theater university in Russia generally have two hundred people per place or more. In Ukrainian universities, the competition is ten times less, but it is still very difficult to enroll.

The following documents should be prepared:

  • application addressed to the rector;
  • copy of the passport (show the original at the university);
  • a copy of the certificate of assignment of an identification number;
  • certificate of secondary education or diploma;
  • USE or UPE results;
  • medical certificate form No. 086-U;
  • photo 3 x 4 in the amount of 6 pieces;
  • guys - a military ID or a capital certificate.

Universities require original documents to be submitted. Therefore, if you enter several universities at once, you will have to make notarized copies of the originals.

You need to prepare for admission to the theater at least a year in advance.

Apply at once to all theatrical universities of your chosen city in order to increase your chances. Do not forget to find out detailed information about each university, what kind of "school" is there, which teachers, who is the master who is recruiting the course.

Don't forget about self-education - read a lot of fiction, familiarize yourself with the works of Stanislavsky and Mikhail Chekhov (at the same time, you won't confuse him with Anton Pavlovich at the colloquium), be sure to read about the history of the theater.

You must come to the audition in good sleep, healthy and in a fighting mood - it will be a shame when, because of such a state, you will not be able to enter.

When you introduce yourself to the panel, try to sound even and confident despite your inner feelings.

Remember, in fact, your main task is to impress the master. Before starting the auditions, find out what kind of person he is, how he teaches, where he played, what performances he put on - form an opinion about what is close to him and what he can be interested in.

Dozens of applicants come to the audition; in the first or second, you can not particularly strive, but then be more active. Do not waste time: teachers are people too, they get tired, get annoyed, attention is scattered by the end of the day, and you may simply not be appreciated at your true worth.

How to make a program

The question of preparing the program should bother you immediately after the question of how to enter the theater. You have to think over your repertoire well, study it, let it pass through yourself and then don't look fake at the auditions. For the same reason, it is not advisable to change the program during the tours - it takes a lot of time for high-quality retraining.

Prepare several versions of each work, preferably three poems, fables and prose passages.

The recommended list of references is often posted on the websites of universities, do not be lazy and study, but you can try to learn something of your own free will. For prose and poetry, it is better to choose something from classical literature. There is absolutely no need to read your author's work - it is not important whether you know how to write poetry, but how you can convey someone else's message to the audience. Looking for fables - take Krylov and you won't be mistaken.

The main principle of the selection of works is to prepare what is close to you, what you can understand and convey to the viewer.

Try to choose a variety of works, but in accordance with your type. Evaluate yourself from the outside and decide how to present yourself: maybe the image of a romantic hero suits you, or maybe you are a natural comedian? A mismatch in appearance and material can be fatal to your theatrical future.

Those wishing to enter the theater often turn to professional teachers for help, take courses, but remember: this approach deprives your performance of individuality, because all the works and the way they are presented will not be chosen by you. In any case, it is better not to talk about such an experience in preparing the commission - everyone wants the student not to be initially seasoned with someone else's experience and vision of acting.

When speaking with the program, begin to recite from the part of the work on which you put the main emphasis. Do not think that now you will tell the introduction, and then brilliantly bring to a bright moment - the commission will not listen to you for a long time, and you should immediately interest the audience.

Your appearance

Girls need to emphasize their femininity. Put on a skirt or dress of medium length, a short skirt will obviously not please the commission, as well as a skirt to the floor. And in general, don't wear anything provocative. Flat shoes or high stiletto heels are not an option, choose a medium heel.

Bright makeup is not approved, but you shouldn't come without it at all - stop at natural light makeup with an emphasis on the eyes. Hair should be tied back, in any case, take an elastic band with you.

Young men should dress simply and decently: classic trousers, a shirt or a T-shirt will come in handy, but don't wear a jacket - it shouldn't hinder your movements. No extravagant outfits and sports shoes, your choice is shoes. Facial hair is also discouraged, so it's best to shave smoothly.

Remember, judging acting is subjective in and of itself, and don't be discouraged if you fail. Most of the famous actors tried to enter the theater for the second time and the third before they got it. In any case, you gain valuable experience and knowledge that will play into your hands in the future.
