The first group of Ian Anderson, founded in 1963 in Blackpool, was called The Blades. In 1966, the name was changed to John Evan Band, named Pianist and drummer of John Ivan. This group entered Barry Barlow ( Barrie Barlow.), which will later become a member of Jethro Tull.

In search of the best destiny, the group moved around London's neighborhood, or rather to the city of Luton. Self, they visited Liverpool. However, the team did not succeed in big success, and very soon most of its participants went back to Blackpool. Only the most persistent: Anderson himself and bass guitarist Glen Noringer ( Glenn Cornick.). They did not despair, and soon united creative forces with Blues-guitarist Mick Abrahams (Mick Abrahams) and Driver Blanker Bunker, which were played in the local McGregor team "S Engine.

At first, the new ensemble did not be charged, and they were rarely invited more than once in the same institution. Naturally, the best way out of the situation was constantly changing the name of the group in the hope that the owners of the clubs did not remember them in the face. The names changed so often that the team members simply dried out the imagination, and they asked to come up with the next version of the guys from technical support. And now, somehow, one of them, a story lover, suggested a version of "Jethro Tull" in honor of the English agronomist-innovator of the XVIII century. The only reason for which this name firmly fixed behind the group was the fact that it was under the same name, she saw her first director of the club, to whom the performance of musicians more or less, had to do, in connection with which they were invited to speak again. Directors called John Ji ( John Gee.), And the club was famous Marquee. They concluded an agreement with the prosperous Agency of Ellis-Wright ( Ellis-Wright) and steel, thus, the third group, whose affairs have led the company, turning into the empire

1968: Progressive Blues

Jethro Tull protrude in the famous Rock'n show "Roll Circus

The first single Jethro Tull, Spirled by Derek Lawrence ( Derek Lawrence), I didn't gain great recognition from the public (it was a pretty well-tailed song "Sunshine Day", written by Ebrams), but became valuable extraction of collectors, since on the cover of the plate the name of the group was written with a typo: "Jethro Toe". Soon the team released their debut blues album This Was. (). On this disk, in addition to the original creations of Anderson and Ebrams, there was a version of the famous song "Cat's Squirrel", in which the blues-fatal tendencies of the Ebrams obviously manifested themselves. Anderson got the opportunity to completely demonstrate his talent of the flutist in the Serenade to A Cockoo jazz composition. Roland Kirk. By the way, Anderson first took the flute in the hands of only six months before the release of the album. The general style of a group of that period Anderson determined how "a mixture of progressive blues with a pinch of jazz."

After this album, Ebrams leaves the group and bases its own - Blodwyn Pig. There were several reasons for his care: Ebrams was a tary adherent of classical blues, while Anderson wanted to use other musical styles; Mutual dislike of the root and ebrams; Not too much a great zeal to travel, the more abroad, and play more than three times a week, while all other team members wanted to see the world and gain fame outside the Motherland.

In connection with the departure of Ebrams, the group had to look for a new guitarist. A multitude of candidates was viewed, one of which was Tony Aiom, subsequently famous from Black Sabbath. The latter, although it appeared along with the team on the record of the famous TV show The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus (where all Tull participants, except Anderson, had to perform under the phonogram), did not come true in the group (the exact reason for the care is unknown, among versions: musical Disagreements, addiction of IiMami to Marijuana, the desire of Tony to continue working with their team).

1969-1971: Looking for your own style

Stand Up album cover

After long and painful samples, Anderson argues the role of guitarist Martin Barra ( Martin Barre.). Most of all he struck Anderson persistentness: he was so nervous at the first view, which could not play at all, and after appearing at the second listening, I forgot to capture the cord to connect the guitar to the amplifier. Despite these misunderstandings, it was Martin Barr who became a constant replacement for Ebrams in Jethro Tull, and a real long-liver of the group, losing so long that only Anderson is inferior to this indicator.

The new composition of the group recorded the album Stand Up. () This album became the only one in the history of Tull, who managed to climb on the top of the British rating of popularity. All the music, with the exception of the jazz treatment of the Bach "Bourée" composition, was written by Ian Anderson. In fact, it was no longer a blues album, and the sophisticated listener will immediately understand that the musical style in which the group began to play, rather can be determined as a progressive rock. In the same 1969, the Group releases the Single "Living In The Past", which reaches the 3rd place in British Charts. And although the release of singles at the time was quite rare for musicians who performed prog rock, Jethro Tull did not stop and secured their success with several more similar compositions: "Sweet Dream" (1969), "The Witch's Promise" () , "Life Is a Long Song" (). In 1970, he returned to the group (at first as a invited musician) John Iven, and together with him the team released the album Benefit..

After recording Benefit. The group left the bass guitarist Naurik, and in his place Anderson invited his childhood friend Jeffrey Hammond ( Jeffrey Hammond.), in honor of which such songs like "A Song for Jeffrey", Jeffrey Goes to Leicester Square and "For Michael Collins, Jeffrey, and Me" were named. Later, Jeffrey will play the role of a storytellor in the "The Story of the Hare Who Lost His Spectacles" speaking on the album A Passion Play.. On the covers of disks and during living speeches, Jeffrey often called Hammond-Hammond, it was a kind of joke "for their own." This joke hints at the fact that the maiden name of Mother Jeffrey was the same as his father - Hammond, but they were not relatives.

In 1972, a collection of previous years of compositions was published by the group for various reasons not included in the albums. He got a symbolic name Living In The Past (Living in the past). One of his sides contained a 1970 concert record in New York Carnegie Hole. The title composition of the disk has become one of the most successful team singles. Testing serious problems in connection with exorbitant taxes at home, Jethro Tull musicians decided to record their next album in France. To do this, they rented a studio in which they managed to work such stars as Elton John and Rolling Stones. However, in the process of work, Anderson turned out to be completely disappointed with the quality of the apparatus provided, and in the end the rehearsals were interrupted. In 1993, records of the infamous session were published by a separate Nightcap album. After returning to England, the group recorded a new material in a short time, which became the basis of the next conceptual creation of Jethro Tull - album A Passion Play. The main topic this time Anderson chose reflections on the topic of life after death. In the music plan, ambiguous experiments with sound were continued, in particular on the disk a noticeable attention was given to a saxophone. A Passion Play was quite well sold, however, as always, Anderson's mood significantly spoiled musical critics. Particularly tried in this regard, the browser Melody Maker Chris Welch, a different group in the fluff and dust for her not too convincing, on his races, concert performance.

How clearly the relationship of the leader of Jethro Tull was spoiled with criticism, attention and love for the band from the listeners was so obviously strengthened. Revision of this trend has become a 1974 record War Child.. The work is interesting because most of her compositions were originally intended for the eponymous film, which never entered the screens. The disk achieved as a result of the second line in the list of popularity of the magazine Robert Hillburn.

1977-1979: Folk Rock Trilogy

Album cover "Songs from the Wood"

Three albums associated with folk topics tied under a rapious decade: Songs from the Wood, Heavy Horses. and Stormwatch (The first of the mentioned discs was as a whole positive assessment of musical criticism for the first time since Benefit.). There was nothing surprising in this genre turn, since firstly the band had long been considered to be in a circle of folk rockers (in particular, there were close friendly relations with the well-known team of this direction Steeleye Span), and secondly by this time the leader Jethro Tull Ian Anderson settled on a country farm and calm rural life was obviously reflected in his subsequent work.

After the team left Crain began to search for a suitable drummer. During this period, several famous musicians, including Phil Collins, were alternately with Jethro Tull. Phil Collins.). He became the first year who did not see the issue of the next studio album of the group. In 1982 he was published Broadsword and The Beastwhere the sound again acquires folk color, although the synthesizers were also not forgotten. The followed concert tour became very successful. Musicians, closed in medieval costumes, performed on the scene, decorated in the form of a Viking vessel.

Flute - Tool of heavy metal

In 2003, the light saw a christmas collection Christmas album. Here were attended by traditional songs in the execution of the group and the original Jethro Tull compositions. In s) and Aqualung Live. (). In the same year, Ine Anderson recorded his version of the famous composition Pink Floyd "The Thin Ice", which entered the Album BACK AGAINST THE WALL, dedicated to the work of the group.

2006 pleased several new publications at once. A collection was released in DVD format Collectors Editionwhich is inherent in the recording of one of the best live performances of Jethro Tull at the 1970 Wate Island Festival. Also in this collection included the best fragments of the Group's speeches during the 2001 tour of Britain and America. The highlight of the publication was a video of the joint speech of the participants of the first composition of Jethro Tull Anderson, Ebrams, Korunor and Banker.

In March 2007, a collection of the best acoustic works of the group was published. It includes 24 compositions from albums of various years, as well as a new concert performance "One Brown Mouse" and the dedication of the King Henry VIII "Pastime with Good Company". In September of the same year, another concert DVD LIVE AT MONTREUX 2003. He contained, among other things, the lively fulfillment of such well-known things as "Fat Man", "With You To Help Me" and "Hounting Girl".

Jethro Tull musicians actively toured in 2007, and also started recording a new album. Some fragments from the new material group performed at concerts last fall. If the plans of Anderson and his colleagues will not hurt anything, the new disc will be the first studio release over the past 8 years.

According to the statistics published at the end of 2006 at http://www.ministry-of-information.com, since 1968, Jethro Tull was given a total of 2789 concerts, which is on average 73 speeches per year for 38 years.

Jethro Tull is a British rock band created in Blackpool in 1967.

The leader of the Ian Anderson team became the first rock musician who regularly using a flute. The group began with the performance of blues-rock, but soon the influences of Folka, jazz and classical music appeared in their music.

The group is named after Jetro Talla - an agricultural scientist who lived in England at the turn of the XVII-XVIII centuries and glorified the invention of an improved model of the plow - seeders. A notable fact is that in the design of this device, the principle of operation of the musical instrument is used. Despite the fact that Jethro Tull was always far from Mainstream, used extremely complex arrangements and wrote unusual, intricate texts, in the 1970s they were accompanied by a significant commercial success: 5 group albums received platinum status, 11 - golden, in the world Over 60 million copies of the group albums have been sold.

History of the group

1963-1967: Eastoka

The first group of Ian Anderson, founded in 1963 in Blackpool, was called The Blades. In 1966, the name was changed to John Evan Band, named Pianist and drummer of John Ivan. This group included Barry Barrou (Barrie Barlow), which later becomes a member of Jethro Tull.

In search of the best destiny, the group moved around London's neighborhood, or rather to the city of Luton. Self, they visited Liverpool. However, the team did not succeed in big success, and very soon most of its participants went back to Blackpool. Only the most persistent: Anderson himself and bass guitarist Glenn Cornick (Glenn Cornick).

Directors called John Ji (John Gee), and the club was famous Marquee. They concluded an agreement with the prosperous Agency of Ellis-Wright (Ellis-Wright) and became, therefore, the third group, whose affairs were conducted by the company, the shortness of Chrysalis turned into an empire.

1968: Progressive Blues

The first single of Jethro Tull, Spirled by Derek Lawrence (Derek Lawrence), did not gain great recognition from the public (it was a pretty well-tailed composition "Sunshine Day", written by Ebrams), but became the valuable prey of collectors, since the group name was on the cover of the record Written with typos: "Jethro Toe". Soon the team released her debut album in the style of blues of this WAS (1968). Anderson was able to completely demonstrate his flaretist's talent in the jazz song "Serenade to a cuckoo" Roland Körka.

A lot of candidates was viewed, one of which was Tony Aiom, subsequently famous from.

After long and painful samples, Anderson argues the role of the Martin Barre guitarist. Most of all he struck Anderson persistentness: he was so nervous at the first view, which could not play at all, and after appearing at the second listening, I forgot to capture the cord to connect the guitar to the amplifier. Despite these misunderstandings, Martin Barr became constant replacement of Ebrams in Jethro Tull and a real long-liver of the group, losing so long that only Anderson is inferior to this indicator.

The new composition of the band recorded the album Stand Up (1969) this album became the only one in the history of Tull, which was able to climb on the top of the British rating of popularity. All music, with the exception of jazz treatment of the Bahae Bach composition, was written by Ian Anderson. In fact, it was no longer a blues album, and the sophisticated listener will immediately understand that the musical style in which the group began to play, rather can be determined as a progressive rock. In the same 1969, the Group releases the Single "Living In The Past", which reaches the 3rd place in British Charts. And although the release of singles at the time was quite a rare case for musicians who performed prog rock, Jethro Tull did not stop and secured their success with several more similar compositions: "Sweet Dream" (1969), "The Witch's Promise" (1970 ), "Life IS A Long Song" (1971). In 1970, he returned to the group (at first as an invited musician) John Iven, and together with him the team released the BENEFIT album.

After recording a Benefit, the group left the bass guitarist Rugor, and on his place Anderson invited his childhood friend Jeffrey Hammond (Jeffrey Hammond), in honor of which such songs were named as "A Song for Jeffrey", "Jeffrey Goes to Leicester Square" and "FOR MICHAEL COLLINS, JEFFREY, AND ME." Later, Jeffrey will execute the role of the narrator in the "The Story of the Hare Who Lost His Spectacles" speaking on the album A Passion Play. On the covers of disks and during living speeches, Jeffrey often called Hammond-Hammond, it was a kind of joke "for their own." This joke hints at the fact that the maiden name of Mother Jeffrey was the same as his father - Hammond, but they were not relatives.

The same composition in 1971 Tull produces its most famous Aqualung disc. The work turned out to be very deeply in poetic content; In the texts, Anderson expressed his sharp opinion on the then religious and public realities. Despite the fact that the album consists of very diverse songs, there is a certain connection between them, which allows critics to call Aqualung conceptual work. The main character of the album is a despicable tramp, stunning along the streets and linen dropping saliva at the sight of young girls. The heroine of the song "Cross-Eyed Mary" was a schoolgirl prostitute. The song "My God", written even before the release of the BENEFIT album, and has already managed to become an important part of the group's concert speeches, also entered this album. This song has become a kind of snatching for Christian Hanges: "People, what have you done?! Locked him in a golden cage, rushed under his religion, who rested from the dead ... ". The opposite is "Wond'Ring Aloud" - a delicate acoustic ballad. The largest popularity was awarded the composition "Locomotive Breath", which also sounds regularly on the air radio stations, and a rare performance of Jethro Tull is without it.

1972-1976: Progressive Rock

In early 1971, without having a heavy tour of the charter and wanting to spend more time with his family, the drummer of the bankrupt group leaves. Barriemore Barlow (Barriemore Barlow) occupies a place behind the drum installation. His debut as a full-fledged member of the group took place on the record of the 1972 Disk Thick AS A BRICK. This album, without any reservation, was conceptual, and essentially consisted of one composition that lasted 43 minutes 28 seconds. For that time it was a real revelation. Some fragments of this composition quite often sounded in the radio if, and in our days, they are glad to steal them as a classics of rock music. Thick AS A BRICK was the first contribution of Jethro Tull into the progressive direction of the rock, as well as their first disk that reached the top line in the American hit parade. The next album of the A Passion Play group was the second and the next album in 1973. The Quintet Anderson Barr-Iben-Hammond Barlow existed until 1975.

In 1972, the group was published a collection of compositions of past years, for various reasons not included in the albums. He received the symbolic name Living in The Past (living in the past). One of his sides contained a 1970 concert record in New York Carnegie Hall. The title composition of the disk became one of the most successful singles of the group. The records of the infamous session first appeared in 1988 on the collection of 20 years of Jethro Tull (Chateau D`Isaster Tapes). A Passion Play sold quite well, however, the mood of Anderson significantly spoiled musical critics. The Melody Maker, Chris Welch, was particularly tried in this regard, a broken group in Pooh and dust for her not too convincing, in his opinion, a concert performance. Despite serious criticism, the composition "A Passion Play" ranked 3rd in the list of "25 best songs of all time in the genre of progressive rock" according to the site Popmatters.

How clearly the relationship of the leader of Jethro Tull was spoiled with criticism, attention and love for the band from the listeners was so obviously strengthened. A confirmation of this trend was the record of 1974 War Child. The work is interesting because most of her compositions were originally intended for the eponymous film, which never entered the screens. The disk achieved the second line in the list of popularity of the Billboard magazine, and the compositions "Bungle in the Jungle" and "SKATING AWAY ON THIN ICE OF THE NEW DAY" became radioches. Another remarkable song of the album became a kind of rewarding Aklaumes of the pen "Only Solitaire", dedicated to one of the jar of critics Anderson, Music Observer of the publication L.A. Times Robert Hillburn.

In 1975, the Group submitted to the public to the public the next creation of Minstrel In The Gallery, which as a whole resemble Aqualung, combining gentle acoustic things with more sharp compositions, the basis of which the electrohytric passage of Barra became the basis. Album songs were filled with sad reflections, sometimes bordered with frank cynicism, which is explained by a certain personal crisis of Anderson caused by a divorce with his first wife. Critics reviews were mixed, the fans as a whole were benevolently react to the new work of their favorites. In general, subsequently minstrel ... was recognized as one of the best drives for the whole career of Jethro Tull, despite the fact that it is clearly inferior in popularity to another classical product of the group Aqualung album. Shortly after the release of the plate, the team again rareered in the composition. This time, with the group, the bass player Hammond said, decided to tie with music and fully focus on painting. The vacancy was intended to fill in John Glascock (John Glascock), who played before the Carmen flamenco group, which accompanied Jethro Tull in the previous tour.

Disk 1976 TOO OLD TO ROCK 'N' ROLL: TOOO YOUNG TO DIE! (Too old for rock and roll, too young to die) also contained a certain conceptual intent and narrated about the fate of an aging rock star. Responding to questions of journalists, the leader of the group categorically denied the fact that he was essentially a prototype of the album character - Ray Lomas. Nevertheless, it is difficult not to notice a certain external similarity between Anderson and the main character that depicted an indecent gesture on the cover of the record.

1977-1979: Folk Rock Trilogy

A line under a rapid decade was summed up by three albums associated with folk topics: Songs from the Wood, Heavy Horses and StormWatch (the first of these drives was awarded in general a positive assessment of musical criticism for the first time since the Benefit times). There was nothing surprising in this genre turn, since firstly the band had long been considered his Folk Rockers (in particular, there were close friendly relations with the well-known team of the Steeleye SPAN), and secondly by this time the leader Jethro Tull Ian Anderson settled on a country farm and calm rural life was obviously reflected in his subsequent work.

In 1978, the Bursting Out concert album was published, which contained bright and dynamic group speeches. The composition of the participants of this period is recognized by most of the fans of the Golden ensemble. A special shade of Jethro Tull's speeches attached the immediate manner of Anderson's communication with the public and colleagues. Ian with his characteristic harsh humor often podcassed his comrades ("David went to calm down. But he has already returned. You have not forgotten to shake a friend."). During the tour of the United States, John Glascock bassist, serious health problems were discovered; Anderson's vacant place asked his friend Tony Williams (Tony Williams, ex-Stealers Wheel).

In 1977, a new keyboard player appeared in the group. They became David Palmer (David Palmer), who had previously collaborated with the group as a concert arranger. Glaskov finally left the composition of the team in the summer of 1979 due to progressive disease; In the autumn of the same year, he died during a complex surgical surgery on the heart. The new bass guitarist group became Dave Pegg (Dave Pegg) from Fairport Convention. Together with him, Jethro Tull went to the touring tour, at the end of which Barlow left the group, depressed by the death of Glascoke.

During the first half of the 1970s, Jethro Tull not only significantly changed their stylistic direction in music, but also achieved significant progress in the content of their stage submissions. The living speeches of the group were very theatrical and contained prolonged improvisations with the inclusions of various solo parties. At first, the only bright character on the scene was the frontman Anderson with his shaped hair and torn clothes, however, other members of the group became active participants in the future.

All Musicians Jethro Tull represented certain images on stage. Basist Glenn Rugor has always appeared clouded in a vest and with a bandage on the head, while his successor Jeffrey Hammond preferred to dress in a black and white striped costume (all his musical instruments were decorated in the same way). In addition to the "zebrid" Hammond at a certain point, two actors depicted Zebra appeared on the stage, which "was deforated" with ping pong balls directly in inspired spectators. John Ivan played in a white suit with a bright red scarf on the neck. Performing the role of a "sad clown", he walked in his huge shoes on stage, moving from the piano to Hammond (deliberately arranged in opposite ends of the scene), and in the interruptions I took out a flask from my pocket, allegedly filled with alcohol, and did the kind of drinking from she. The robe of Drummer Barlow consisted of Mike and sports panties of raspberry color, as well as rugby bends; Also in its equipment included enlarged drumsticks, and during the solo batches of the drummer, the thick clubs of smoke enveloped the scene. The only incarnation of decency among all this insane Balagan was Martin Barr, whom Anderson and Iven, and Ivan, was the case of "Pinali"; They are in every way grimacing when the guitarist performed his passage.

A bright example of extravagant ideas were Jethro Tull concerts in support of Thick AS A BRICK album. During the performance of musicians on stage, the actors were delivered to rabbits, and during an intermission installed directly on the scene by the beach, the participants of the Barr and Barlow group were changed. The Passion Play disk was initially planned to include a film containing theatrical settings, but the undertaking eventually failed. Only later, the fragments of this video entered the jethro tull memorable collection (including the Story of the Hare WHO LOST HIS Spectacles interlude). The album Too Old to Rock'n'roll ... became another attempt by Anderson to create a multimedia project, however, this time the plans were not destined to be incarnated.

Stage experiments, even if they continued in the next decades. In 1982, during a concert tour of the Broadsword and The Beast, the scene was equipped in the form of a huge ship of the Viking. In the late 1970s, Anderson appeared on the stage, closed in Esquile clothing; The remaining participants in the group also led their stage costumes in line with folk themes of that period. At concerts in support of the album A, all Jethro Tull musicians were dressed in exactly the same white overalls that were present on the disc cover. Some stage tricks characteristic of the 70s are preserved to this day. For example, during the execution of the next song in the hall, a loud phone call is heard (this joke has become particularly relevant in our time with the advent of cell phones). At the end of the presentation, the Group traditionally plays a powerful code and huge balloons appear on the scene, which Anderson raises over himself and throws in public.

1980-1984: Electronic Rock

The album A released in 1980 was originally planned, like Solnik Anderson. In addition to Barra and Pegg, Drummer Mark Cranei (Eddie Jobson), who had previously worked with Roxy Music, UK, took part in the disk record. Significant emphasis on synthesizers will be brought to the sound of Jethro Tull new shades. Another innovative move was the shooting of the clip to one of the songs of the new album "Slipstream". David Mallet (David Mallet), author of the innovative video of David Bowie "Ashes to Ashes", was invited as director. The changes in the traditional Saound Jethro Tull became even more noticeable at the concerts of the group, which used the latest achievements of electronics.

After the command left Crain, the search for a suitable drummer began. During this period, several famous musicians, including Phil Collins, acted with Jethro Tull. 1981 became the first year who did not see the issue of the next studio album of the group. In 1982, Broadsword and The Beast was published, in which the sound again acquires folk color, although the synthesizers were also not forgotten. The followed concert tour became very successful. Musicians, closed in medieval costumes, performed on the scene, decorated in the form of a Viking vessel.

In 1983, Anderson finally released his first solo album. He got the name Walk Into Light, abounded by electronics and narrated the alienation in modern technological society. Large resonance work did not cause neither old fans, nor a new generation of listeners. However, several compositions from the disk were subsequently entered into the Jethro Tull concert program ("Fly by Night", "Made in England", "Different Germany").

Apotheosis of the electronics hobby was the Under Wraps disk, on which the drum machine instead of a living drummer is present instead of a living drummer. Although the musicians stated that they were generally satisfied with their new sound, their next creation again did not cause delight of criticism, no fans. It can be noted except for a fairly noticeable presence on the air of a newly educated MTV video of the LAP OF LUXURY group. Soon, Jethro Tull leader had serious problems with the throat and the band took a three-year pause. All this time, Anderson devoted to the treatment and development of his farm to breed salmon, which he acquired in 1978.

1987-1991: Hard Rock

In 1987, the long-awaited return of Jethro Tull was held. It was done with glitter. Their new Crest of A Knave album was a refund to the more familiar "Tallovsky" sounding of the 70s and received an enthusiastic response in the press. The musicians of the group were marked by the Higher Musical Award of Grammy in the "Best Rock / Metal Execution" nomination, bypassing strong competitors represented by the Metallica team. The results of the voting caused an ambiguous assessment, since many observers did not consider Jethro Tull neither a hard-fat or a more metallic team. The participants of the group themselves did not believe in their victory that none of them was at the awards ceremony. In one of the British musical publications about the victory of Jethro Tull, a picture was published on which the flute was lying in the pile of the reinforcement, and the subtitle was reading: "Flute is a hard metal tool" (the game of words is also possible to translate "flute - metal tool"). Crest of a Knave style was pretty close to the Dire Straits, which, in particular, was explained by changing the voice range of Anderson. The most popular songs of the Album are "Farm On The Freeway" and "Steel Monkey", which often sounded in the radio. It is also worth noting the concert arrangement "Budapest", which contained an episode with a local shy girl and sounding more than 10 minutes. The most popular in Europe was the song "Mountain Men" dedicated to military topics. The text mentioned the battle of the Second World War at El Alameine and the battle on the Falkland Islands, while the parallels were held between the feeling of burning wives and their fighting husbands. "El-Alamein who died in trenches who died on Falkland on TV."

In 1988, a collection of 20 years of Jethro Tull was released, which contained mainly not previously published records, as well as concert numbers and recycled compositions. Inside the set was the booklet, in detail the narrative of the group's history. There is nothing to say that the publication immediately became a rarity in the circle of Jethro Tull fans. In honor of the 20th anniversary, a touring tour was organized, at which the Martin Okok Martin Allcock (Martin Allcock) was joined by the team members, who had previously speaking in the famous FairPort Convention group. At concerts, he mainly performed keyboards.

The resulting studio work Rock Island (1989) was inferior to the previous album Crest Of A Knave. One of the Kissing Willie disk compositions was distinguished by vulgar lyrics and deliberately a hard guitar sound, which apparently had to serve as a satirical response of a group of criticism about receiving Grammy. A video clip has been released to the song, which had problems with exit to ether, due to the presence of erotic scenes in it. Despite the fact that in general, the Rock Island disk did not become an outstanding work, he contained a number of records that loved fans of Jethro Tull. In Big Riff and Mando, it was narrowed about the unclean share of constantly touring musicians, and among other things, the fact of theft was mentioned by one of the fans of Tull Mandolina Barra. The Christmas Anthem "Another Christmas Song" was highlighted by his inspiration against the background as a whole of a gloomy material.

The 1991 Album Catfish Rising was different from previous material integrity. Despite the statement of Anderson on returning to blues roots, there was a significant use of Mandolina and an acoustic guitar, and the participation of electronic tools opposite was minimized. The best disc compositions include: "Rocks on the road", containing a wonderful batch of acoustic guitar and bluing ballad "Still Loving You Tonight".

1992-1994: Tours and collections

In 1992, Jethro Tull held a tour of A Little Light Music, at the concerts of which they performed mostly acoustic music. Many pretty newly subsidized and completely new songs were played. The records of these speeches were published in the same year concert album. Fans gladly bought a new group disk, as he contained many new versions of his favorite works, including a very interesting reading of the folk song "John Barleycorn". It is also necessary to note that express fact that the quality of the vocal of Ian Anderson has noticeably improved.

In 1993, the Group widely noted a quarter of a century of its existence. A luxurious gift for team fans was a collection of 4 CDs, on which the revised and improved versions of old songs were presented, as well as the interpretation of classical compositions performed by musicians in the 90s. One of the remixes on the song "Living In The Past" reached the 32nd position in British charts.

1995 - 2014: Effect of Ethnic Music

After 1992, Anderson changed the player of the play on the flute somewhat, and in his songs it became a noticeable presence of ethnic motives. In the same period, the group temporarily left Dave Pegg, in order to focus at work at Fairport Convention. He was replaced by Jonathan Noyce. Roots to Branches (1995) and J-Tull Dot COM (1999) and J-Tull Dot Com (1999) and J-Tull Dot Com (1999) and J-Tull Dot Com (1999) sounded as preceding. Their base was the impressions of numerous touring travel around the world. In such songs, as "Out Of The Noise" and "Hot Mango Flush", Anderson brightly transmits his impressions of life in the third world countries. The new albums also attended the compositions in which the Jethro Tull leader reflects on the topic of aging ("Another Harry's Bar", "Wicked Windows", "Wounded, Old and Treacherous").

In 1995, Anderson released his second Solnik Divinities: Twelve Dances with God. The album contained twelve instrumental compositions in which Ian once again demonstrated its virtuoso possession of the flute. A new keyboard player Jethro Tull Andrew Giddings (Andrew Giddings), as well as specially invited orchestral musicians took part in the album. In the future, Anderson recorded two more solo albums: The Secret Language Of Birds (2000) and RUPI "S Dance (2003).

In 2003, the light saw Christmas Collection of Christmas Album. Here, both English folk songs in the execution of the group and the original compositions of Jethro Tull were present. In 2005, two concerns were published on DVD: Live At The Isle of White (1970) and Aqualung Live (2005). In the same year, Ine Anderson recorded his version of the famous composition Pink Floyd "The Thin Ice", which entered the Album BACK AGAINST THE WALL, dedicated to the work of the group.

2006 pleased several new publications at once. The Collector Edition was released in DVD format, which presents the record of one of the best live performances of Jethro Tull at the 1970 ISle of Wight Festival.

It includes 24 compositions from albums of various years, as well as a new concert performance "One Brown Mouse" and the popular English song "Pastime with Good Company", the author of which is King Henry VIII. In September of the same year, the next concert DVD Live AT MONTREUX 2003 was released. He contained, among other things, the lively fulfillment of such well-known things as "Fat Man", "With You To Help Me" and "Hunting Girl".

Jethro Tull musicians are actively toured. In 2008, a tour dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the group took place. In 2011 - tour to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the album "Aqualung".

At the end of 2011, Martin Barr stated that at least two years leave the group. Tour 2012 in support of the Anderson solo album "Thick AS A BRICK 2: WHATEVER HAPPENED TO GERALD BOSTOCK?" It takes place without his participation. According to some information, conflict arose between him and Anderson, due to the copyright of some songs, in particular Minstrel In The Gallery: Barr considers himself a co-author, while all the author's deductions go only Anderson.

In September 2013, Jethro Tull gave concerts in Minsk, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don and Krasnodar.

In 2014, Jen Anderson declared the collapse of the team.

Original composition:

Ian Anderson (vocals, guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, percussion, flute, r. 1947),

Mick Abrahams (guitar),

Glenn Crown (bass guitar),

Clive Bankor (drums).

Ian Anderson first spoke for the first time in the Blackpool group "John Iben Band" in 1966, the participants of which later consisted of the kernel of the legendary Anderson project "Jethro Tall". And at first, Ian Anderson and Basist Naranni will fall from Blackpools: In December 1967, they arrived in London and announced a set of musicians. In the spring of 1968, the new ensemble successfully performed at the Jazz Festival. Critics characterized him as an ascending star of Art Rock, and the producers of the company "Island" offered Anderson to sign a contract for three years.

The first disc of the group headed by the best flaurtiest rock music appeared at the end of 1968. This is the only project "Jetro Tall", the compositions of which are based on the blues guitar (this is Mika Abrahams's manner). The leader of the Ian Anderson, however, is a somewhat different form of a musical expression, namely to art-rock in the spirit of the Menestlel ballad with a significant influence of hard rock. For this purpose, Tony Yommy and Martin Barre were the most appropriate guitarists. Yommy soon founded Black Sabbat, and Barre successfully fastened to Jethro Tall and soon became one of the most virtuoso rock guitarists. So, instead of Abrahams, who went to the group "Blodly Pig" (together with the former Gitarist "Yes, Peter Banks), the place of leader-guitarist in Jethro Tall firmly took Martin Barre.

Starting from the second album, Jethro Tall was strengthened in the framework of the "heavy" art rock with severe guitar riffs and amazing improvisations of Anderson flutes. There was still no such thing in the history of rock music, and the ensemble very quickly took a place in the symbolic five of the most innovative groups of the world along with the "Bitles", Rolling Stones, Genesis and Ice Zeppelin.

Since 1970, Jethro Tall products have a great success in all developed countries, but from the disk to the disk the group compositions became increasingly complex and deep, which (despite the highest quality of the musical material of those years) in 1973 led to a conflict with critics Musical publications accused of an ensemble in an excessive "strife" and "melting". In response to this charge, "Jethro Tall" once tried to return to an affordable and simple manner of presenting their songs (disc 1974), but there were indignant listeners who expected from the group of further "serious" developments. As a result, the opinion of fans of the musicians rightly took as a basis, and further products of the ensemble up to 1980 consists of high-class art albums with amazing music, to imitate which no one has yet taken. From the discography in the period from 1970 to 1980 it is difficult to highlight a single disk as a better. It is easier to point out that a little weaker: this is the 1974 disc and the 1979 album (sold in the USSR, Polish production). In conceptual terms, philosophical works of 1972, 1973, 1975, 1978 and 1980 were the most profound.

In the years of the heyday "Jethro Tall", his former "John Iben Band" colleagues returned to Ian Anderson (see Changes in Composition), which contributed stability for many years. The crisis of the oven this wonderful team only in the early 80s: Albums 1982 and 1984 were too "loaded" with orchestras with elements of electronic sound, and the leader guitar moved into the background. Forces for revival were found by Anderson in the middle of the decade. The last two albums of the group (especially 1989) will undoubtedly stand in a number of masterpieces not only in the discography of the group, but also in the history of rock music as a whole. Today, in the period of almost complete despondency in the Art Rock camp, the Album "Rock Island" is truly island of salvation in the sea of \u200b\u200bentertainment commercial products.

Changes in composition:

The group "Jethro Tull", which took a name in honor of the Agrarian Scientific 18th century, is a real phenomenon in rock music. Mixing hard rock, blues, folk and progressive team had a unique sound, which, however, could change in different periods of her career. In addition, the team was famous for loaded, often surreal texts, and the brand "JT" served as a film player playing, standing on one leg. The ensemble, in the original composition of which the frontman Yang Anderson fell (r. August 10, 1947), bassist Glenn Korikanik (r. April 24, 1947), guitarist Mick Abrahams (April 7, 1943) and drummer Clive Bankore (r. December 12, 1946), formed On the fragments of the inclusive formation "John Evan Smash". It happened in the late 1967th, and at the beginning of next year, Jethro Tull was thrown into the pilot pop folk single "Sunshine Day". Although Mignon was a failure, the group managed to get a residence permit in the metropolitan club "Marquee", and she began to gradually increase concert popularity. Especially good things went when Abrahams moved to the center of the scene, and Anderson, dressed as a tramp, came up with his corporate rack. In June 1968, the team performed at the first open festival in Hyde Park, in August she shone on "Sunbury Jazz & Blues Festival", and by the end of the summer he heard a contract from "Island Records". Already the first disk giant showed the eclecticity of the "Jethro Tull" eclecticity, however, despite the jazz-falking impurities, by and large "This Was" was a blues album, and the main merit belonged to Abrahams. Nevertheless, the leaders in the group were still two and, not wanting to continue rivalry with Yan, Mick went to create the project "Blodwyn PIG".

The resulting breach tried to close Tony Iiomi ("Black Sabbath") and Davy about "Sheet (" Nice "), but the personnel question decided with the advent of Martin Barra (r. November 17, 1946). In the spring of 1969, the renovated composition debuted with hit singles. "Living In The Past", which entered the British Troika leaders and led to the appearance of "Jethro Tull" in the "Top of the Pops" transmission. The authorship of the song belonged to Anderson, and he also prepared all the material for the album "Stand Up" (including processing Bach "Bouree"). A unique blend of blues, jazz, Brit Folk, Prog Rock and Classics caused the public interest, and the disk landed on the top of the island chart. The next full-length "Benefit" was awarded a bias in Hard Rock and the appearance in Guests of the Ex-Head "John Evan Band" of John Evan's keyboard player. The same plate turned out to be the last for Glenna Kornev, which managers politely asked for a way out. The dismissed bassist screamed the project "Wild Turkey", and his place in "Jethro Tull" took another exit From "John Eva N Band "Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond.

With the Evan's official embedded to the official composition at the beginning of the 1971th, the team prepared the master-level program "Aqualung". Blues intonation here practically remained in the past, but perfectly worked on the contrast of hard rock and folk. The combination of explosive riffs and acoustics took a listener for the very heart, and buyers swept the plate from the counters in a huge amount. Although the "aqualant" tour has passed with great success, the busy touring schedule did not correspond to the family plans of the recently groom's banner, and he conveyed to Barrimor Barlow sticks (also ex- "John Evan Band"). The fifth album, wrapped in a "newspaper" cover, turned out to be an innovative enterprise - it consisted of only one composition with a duration of 44 minutes with socio-surrealistic texts and characteristic of the progression of the changes of musical topics, sizes and pace. Although many critics were in confusion before the "Thick As A Brick", the record had a wide success and became for the "Jethro Tull" the first American charttopper. A year later, the group repeated the uninimed-conceptual formula in the program "A Passion Play" than caused a squall of charges in excessive inconsistencies, however, despite the wanders, the album also became the leader of the overseas lists. Although the next studio was preparing as part of a film project, the film was never published, and the planned twin turned into ordinar.

With "War Child", the team returned to the shortened format of songs, and the orchestrations of the Palmer who worked with the group of David became more noticeable. In the "Billboard", the album was found on the second line, but the 1975 plate "Minstrel In The Gallery", with its counterweight electric energy Barra and acoustics resembling "Aqualung", moved "Jethro Tull" to the seventh step. In January 1976, the personnel idyll reigned for several years was violated by Hammond Hammond's resignation, which decided to switch to painting. With the new bassist John Glasokok, the band recorded the disc "TOO OLD TO ROCK" N "ROLL: TOOO YOUNG TO DIE!", And although the title track replenished the piggy bank of the classic things "JT", the album itself, made on the basis of the failed plays of Anderson -Palmer, remained Undervalued - he did not even receive gold and fell out of American tens and British twenty. Much more successful turned out to be a folk plate "Songs from the Wood" - charts and sales indicators improved with it. The disk came out in February 1977, and in May David Palmer received official membership in Jethro Tull and began to perform at concerts as a keyboard player. Folk prevalted on two other albums of the late 70s, which, despite the dominance of punk rock, still had good demand.

Five weeks after the release of "StormWatch" died, hello died (the consequences of the transferred operation on the heart were affected) and the Basist's place went to Dave Peggu from FairPort Convention. John's divergent death, after the completion of the promo tour, he quit Barlowa, and Anderson, who took advantage of the confusion in the ranks of the group, was engaged in the Solnik's record. Be that as it may, but confused by synthesizers and electroscripting from Eddie Jobson Hard-folk "A" came out under the brand "Jethro Tull", since so insisted "Chrysalis Records". Thus, the firm wanted to prevent decline in sales, but the trick did not have a strong impact, and buying demand remained at the average level. On the opening of the disk there were regular permutations, and Peter Wettes and Drikher's posts found themselves. In 1982, the updated composition prepared the program "The Broadsword & The Beast", which, although it was based on folk melodies, brought the command to a heavier sound. Also, the role of synthesizers was noticeably increased here, but the electronics were even greater on the "under WRAPS", especially since the group remained without a living drummer and used the drum machine. Despite the fact that "Tull" seemed to be satisfied with experiments with Sint Pop, the work failed, and the planned tour had to be canceled due to Anderson's illness. Only after a three-year break, the team returned to work, and by that time her official staff fell to Trio - Peter left. Although the musicians tried to play the usual hard folk again on the "Crest Of A Knave", and the Guitar Barra for the first time from the 70s again was put at the head of the corner, the style of this album was very similar to "Dire Straits". However, the audience adopted this work with delight, and "Jethro Tull" even snatched "Grammy" in the nomination "Best Hard Rock / Metal Performance Vocal or Instrumental", which "Metallica" claimed.

Feeling more confidentily, the group began to tougher, but recorded with the new striker Dana Perry "Rock Island" had a cooler reception, especially in America. From the next plate "Catfish Rising" again after a long break, there was a blues to the blues, but in the stray grunge bora, this fact remained unnoticed, and "Tull" continued the chart drop. However, for the team, everything was not lost - her concerts were still successful, and released in the 1992th acoustic set "A Little Light Music" entered the British top 40 (in Billboard No. 150). In 1995, the team, whose ranks were replenished with the keyboard player Andrew Giddings, returned to the studio work, and the Middle East melodies were noticed to the branded sound. With a bias in Warld Music, the album "J-Tull Dot Com" was also made, but on the occurrence of zero Anderson carried away the recording of Solnikov, and the group went to the background for him. Nevertheless, in the first decade of the twenty-first century, "Jethro Tull" released several healnists, and also prepared a Christmas record. Only after the Barr declared his resignation in 2011, it became clear that the legendary team no longer exists.

The English group "Jethro Tull" (this is the name of the Agrarian scientist who lived about 200 years ago) was formed in Luton (United Kingdom) in 1967. The leader of the Ian Anderson, however, to a somewhat different form of a musical expression, namely to art-rock in the spirit of the Mesnestrel ballad with a significant influence of hard rock. As a result, Abrahams was forced to leave.

In his place, Tony Yommi and Dave O'list (Ex- "Nice") were long ago, but only Martin Barre was established thoroughly (r. November 17, 1946), which was soon one of the most virtuoso rock guitarists. The first single, recorded with his participation, "Living In The Past" was on the third line of the British charts. Starting from the second album, the Jethro Tull style has strengthened in the framework of heavy art rock with pronounced guitar riffs and amazing improvisations of Anderson flutes. So in the history of rock music has not yet been, and the ensemble very quickly took a place in the symbolic five of the most innovative groups Peace along with "Beatles", "Rolling Stones", "Genesis" and "Led Zeppelin". Since 1970, Jethro Tull products have had a great success in all countries. In 1971, the most famous album of the team "Aqualung" was released, the song of which was the business card of the group. But from the disk to the disk the composition of the group became increasingly complex and deep, which (despite the highest quality of the musical material of those years) in 1973 led to a conflict with critics of musical publications, accused the ensemble in an excessive "stringent" and "gain".

In response to this accusation - "Jethro Tull" once tried to return to the affordable and simple manner of presenting their songs (disc 1974), but the listeners who expected from the group of further "serious" developments were outraged. As a result, the opinion of fans the musicians rightly took as a basis, and the further products of the ensemble until 1980 consisted of high-class art albums with amazing music, to imitate which no one has not yet taken.

From the discography in the period from 1970 to 1980 it is difficult to highlight a single disk as a better. It is easier to point out that a little weaker: this is a 1974 disc and an album of 1979. In conceptual terms, philosophical works of 1972, 1973, 1975, 1978 and 1980 were the most profound. During the heyday "Jethro Tull", his former colleagues on John Ivan Band returned to Ian Anderson, which contributed stability for many years. The crisis of the oven this wonderful team only in the early 80s: the albums 1982 and 1984 were too loaded by orchestra with electronic sound elements, and the leader guitar moved into the background. Forces for revival were found by Anderson in the middle of the decade. The "Crest of A Knave" disk although it was made in the usual "Jethro Tull" folk-hard-fat manner, but had a loud sound than his predecessors. In 1989, the team received "Grammy" for this album.

Release "Rock Island" almost repeated the success of "Crest Of A Knave", as there was a significant roll toward Hard-rock. In 1993, Chrysalis released the 25th Anniversary Box Set, consisting of the remixes of the best things "Jethro Tull", as well as some new tracks. The albums of the 90s carry a small imprint of the eastern influences. Anderson again lost a few group sound. The last album of the Album "The Christmas Album" (2003) includes acoustic songs associated with Christmas themes. In the new century "Jetro Tall" toure (including in Russia) more than they indulge us with new releases. And in early 2008, Jan Anderson awarded the royal award, which "Beatles" was noted in forty years before him. Now he also carries the proud title of "Member of the British Empire" (MBE). True, he himself belongs to his award with a healthy irony, comparing himself with hundreds of anyone who is not known to work, who receive such long-term rewards.
