Unfortunately, we have so far explored no more than 5% of the world's oceans. And yet, even this negligible part of knowledge is enough to be horrified to see those creatures that live in the depths.

1. Meshkorot
Meshkorot is the only known genus of deep-sea fish of the Meshkorot family. They reach 2 meters in length and live at a depth of 2 to 5 kilometers. Their feature is a large, strong and flexible mouth with teeth curved inward. Some bones are missing in the skull of these fish, so the sackcloths easily open their mouths by almost 180 degrees. At great depths, there is not always enough food, so the fish has adapted to gorge itself for future use, swallowing food more than its own weight and size. A sackcloth that has eaten to the eyeballs can go without food for a long time.

2. Giant grenadier
Giant grenadier is most often found in the seas washing Russia: in the Okhotsk - off the coast of Kamchatka and in the Berigov - near the Kuril and Commander Islands. Here she is known as the "little-eyed longtail" or "little-eyed grenadier", although in other countries it is generally accepted to call her the giant grenadier. The size of the fish - compared to other deep-sea creatures - is really huge. Adults can reach 2 meters, and their weight is 20-30 kg. The maximum recorded age of an adult fish was 56 years, but it is believed that the giant grenadier can live even longer. Young fish usually stay close to the surface, at depths of 200 to 500 meters. As it grows up, the giant grenadier goes deeper and deeper, sinking 3,500 meters and deeper.

3. Skillful angler
Lasiognathus is a genus of deep-sea ray-finned fish of the thaumaticht family that lives in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Among ichthyologists it is known under the unofficial name "skillful fisher". He got his nickname Lasiognathus for a reason. This deep-sea fish has an almost real fishing rod with which it hunts other fish and invertebrates. This device consists of a short fishing rod (basal bone), fishing line (modified ray of the dorsal fin), hook (large dermal denticles) and bait (luminous photophores). This tackle is really remarkable. In different subspecies of Lasoignatus, the structure of the fishing rod can vary from short (up to the middle of the body) to long (much larger than the body). These fish live at great depths - about 4 kilometers.

4. Sabretooth
Sabretooth is a deep-sea fish that lives in tropical and temperate zones at a depth of 200 to 5000 m. It grows up to 15 centimeters in length and weighs only 120 grams. The most remarkable thing about her is two long canines, which are located on the lower jaw. In relation to the body, they are the longest among the fish known to science. And so that Sabretooth could close his mouth, nature endowed him with special grooves in the upper jaw and divided the fish's brain into two parts.

5. Fish hatchets
Hatchet fish are deep-sea fish found in temperate and tropical waters of the world's oceans. They got their name for their characteristic appearance - a narrow tail and a wide "ax-body". Most often they can be found at depths of 200 to 600 meters. However, it is known that they can live at a depth of 2 kilometers. Their body is covered with silvery scales, which bounce off easily and are strongly compressed from the sides. The dimensions of the "hatchets" are small, and in some individuals the body length is only 5 centimeters.

Idiacanthidae are small, rather rare deep-sea fish of the Idiacanthidae family. Most common in tropical and temperate waters of the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans. Males are no longer than 7 cm and look more like a larva than a fish: there are no teeth, as well as the antennae characteristic of females at the bottom of the head. But the photophore is very well developed and occupies 1/3 of the head. It is interesting that the digestive system of males degrades by the period of maturity, they stop feeding and from that moment their life expectancy is a couple of weeks. During this period, males passively hover in the water column at a depth of 1–2 km, and with their huge photophores attract females to mating. The latter are larger and reach a length of as much as half a meter. The huge mouth, planted with sharp crooked teeth, never closes. The tendril departs from the chin, which, at times, exceeds the length of the head by 3 times and ends at the end with a thickening. The skin is dark, coal-black, and has no scales. Photophores of purple and golden color are scattered all over the body.

7. Coelacanth
The coelacanth or coelacanth is a large deep-sea fish, the discovery of which in 1938 was one of the most important zoological finds of the 20th century. Despite its unattractive appearance, it is notable for the fact that for 400 million years it has not changed its appearance and body structure. In fact, this unique relict fish is one of the oldest living creatures on planet Earth. She's even older than the dinosaurs! Coelacanth lives at depths of up to 700 meters in the waters of the Indian Ocean. The length of the fish can reach 1.8 meters with a weight of over 100 kilograms, and the body has a beautiful blue tint. Since the coelacanth is very slow, it prefers to hunt at great depths, where there is no competition with faster predators. These fish can swim backwards or belly up. Despite the fact that the meat of the celikant is inedible, it often becomes a desirable prey among local poachers. Currently, coelacanth or coelacanth is endangered.

8. Batizaurus
The name "Bathysaurus" (Bathysaurus ferox) sounds like a dinosaur, which, in principle, is not far from the truth. Bathysaurus ferox is a deep-sea lizardhead that lives in the tropical and subtropical seas of the world, at depths ranging from 600 to 3500 meters. Its length reaches 50–65 centimeters. It is considered the deepest living superpredator in the world. And all from the fact that he devours any creature that comes his way. As soon as the jaws of this devilish fish slam shut, the game is over. Even her tongue is dotted with razor-sharp fangs.

9. Giant isopod
Giant Isopods is the name of 9 species of large isopods that live in the cold waters at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. These are large animals that can be over 50 centimeters in length. The largest recorded specimen weighed 1.7 kg. at its 76 cm. Externally, the isopods resemble woodlice, although they are 50 times larger than them. They live at depths ranging from 170 to 2,500 meters. Although most of the entire population (about 80%) prefers a clay bottom at a depth of 360-750 m from the surface of the water and loneliness. They are carnivorous, can hunt for slow prey: sea cucumbers, sponges and small fish. They also do not disdain carrion that falls from the surface. Near the carcasses of dead whales and large sharks, you can find hundreds of Isopods devouring a decaying body. Since food at such a great depth is not always enough, and it is not an easy task to find it in the pitch darkness, these crayfish have adapted to do without food for quite a long time. It is known for sure that Izopod is able to fast for 8 weeks in a row.

The secrets of the ocean will never be fully solved by us. In the entire history of existence, mankind has managed to explore only 5% of the depths of the sea: at the bottom of the darkest depressions, in the gaps of unknown caves, not only strange, never-before-seen creatures are hidden, but also whole sunken cities of civilizations of the distant past. Here's a look at some of the most chilling ocean finds of recent times, from an underwater sanctuary of an unknown culture to an anomaly in the Baltic Sea.

A few years ago, the inhabitants of the British islet of Grunsey experienced a taste of real horror. For three days in a row, the ocean carried drowned people to the coast, moreover, "fresh" ones. In total, more than 40 bodies were found and the police now simply do not know where they all came from: there were no storms or shipwrecks at that time near Grunsey.

Maria Celeste

This is one of the most famous ghost ships in the entire history of mankind. In 1872, the brig "Maria Celeste" showed up in the middle of the ocean without a single person on board. Moreover, all the personal belongings of the sailors remained in place, and a still warm dinner was served in the wardroom.

Miraculous salvation

Eleven-year-old Terry Dupperro, sailing in a fragile boat on the open sea, was accidentally spotted from a patrol boat. The girl was rescued at the last moment - the poor thing had been at sea for the fourth day. Terri survived, but from the stress she experienced, she forgot how she ended up in the boat at all.

Captain Mummy

The yacht "Sayo" attracted the attention of the Philippine border guards, as they did not respond to inquiries from her board. As it turned out later, there was simply no one to answer: the crew left the ship, and in one of the cabins a perfectly preserved mummy was found, whose hands were reaching for the phone. Most likely, the man died of a sudden heart attack.

Baltic UFO

A strange, if not frightening, structure was found at the bottom of the Baltic Sea by Swedish divers. The Ocean X Team managed to shoot the object and make some measurements, but the experts did not understand what it really is. The structure resembles either a sunken UFO, or some kind of ancient altar - here we wrote about the Baltic anomaly in more detail.

Lost city

Archaeologists recently discovered the remains of an ancient city off the Indian coast. What's so surprising about that? Well, experts estimate the age of buildings at 9500 years ... And this means that our civilization is much older than it is commonly believed.

The voice of the depths

The sound, nicknamed Bloop, was recorded by NOAA hydrophones in 1997. Scientists have not heard such a loud "voice of the depths" either before or after: there simply does not exist a creature of such dimensions in nature. At least known to man.

Did you know that scary creatures live at the bottom of the ocean? The truth is that we know more about our universe than about the oceans on our own planet. In fact, even to this day, we are discovering new creatures lurking in depths where sunlight does not even penetrate. To be honest, some of these deep sea creatures are pretty creepy. Here are 25 of the scariest sea monsters you didn't know about!

25. Tongue-eating crustacean

We'll start small. This terrible creature enters the fish through the gills, eats its tongue, and then sticks to the place where it used to be.

24. Chimera

Photo: wikimedia commons

Ratfish or Ghostfish, the chimera is known as one of the oldest fish in existence today. They live very deeply, in the dark, so the appearance of this monster will definitely be reflected in your nightmares. Just take a look at this face!

23. Corrugated Shark

Photo: commons.wikimedia.org

With a triple row of sharp teeth, this deep sea shark can wreak havoc on anything it catches. Plus, she just looks creepy.

22. Lobster "Terrible Claw"

Photo: commons.wikimedia.org

Discovered off the coast of the Philippines in 2007, this lobster was very aptly named. Look at these claws! This guy could cut you into pieces like a head of cheese.

21. Water Bear

Photo: commons.wikimedia.org

While most of the creatures on our list are fairly large, these are quite tiny. Even ... microscopic! What's odd about them is their durability. They can survive in almost any temperature, and they can also live without water for over ten years!

20. Mola-Mola

Photo: commons.wikimedia.org

Also known as Sunfish or Moonfish, sounds pretty good right? But, think again, because she weighs over 900 kg! And while the fish won't attack you (they feed on jellyfish), they can be quite intimidating when you see the fish with the heaviest bones approaching you!

19. Giant squid

Photo: pixabay

These monsters can grow up to 18 meters in length. And their eyes are as big as beach balls! And yes, their food addictions are as dire as you can imagine. They grab their prey with tentacles and then shove it into their beak. The squid then crushes it with its teeth-covered tongue before the food enters the esophagus. It looks a lot like a meat grinder.

18. Pelagic Bigmouth Shark

Photo: commons.wikimedia.org

Discovered in 1976, this huge shark attracts plankton with the light that comes from its mouth. Don't float into the light!

17. Galper eel

Photo: fishbase.org

Given that these marine life live at depths of thousands of meters, little is known about them. But, we know for sure that the huge jaws of the fish allow it to swallow prey as large as itself.

16. Goblin Shark

Photo: commons.wikimedia.org

Just looking at this shark will make most of us shudder. Moreover, the mouth of truly terrifying creatures seems to separate during the hunt in order to grab prey more quickly.

15. Grenadier

Photo: commons.wikimedia.org

Although the Grenadier looks a little strange, the disgusting factor is not always commensurate with the appearance. This deep sea fish gives off an awful smell due to the high levels of trimethylamine oxide it contains.

14. Pike blend

Photo: commons.wikimedia.org

Although this fish is practically safe for humans, when the dog is in danger, it opens its huge mouth to scare away predators. Human or not, one look at it would make you get out of the way as soon as possible.

13. Giant isopod

Photo: en.wikipedia.org

Found at a depth of almost 2000 meters, these scavengers can grow up to 3 meters or more in length. Moreover, they existed even before the dinosaurs. How? They know how to survive. For four years, these creatures can do without food. Even if they do not eat you, just imagine that you stumble upon such a creature at the depths of the sea. In fact, it is just a sea cockroach, which is larger than a person. And we are afraid of cockroaches when they are only a few centimeters in length….

12. Fanged fish

Photo: wikimedia commons

These bad guys live 5,000 meters below the surface. Here, water pressure can crush a person. If you don't get crushed, get ready to be mashed up by horrible teeth. In fact, this aptly named underwater monster boasts the largest teeth in relation to its body size of any fish.

11. Fish-toothed

Photo: wikimedia commons

This creepy fish has hooked teeth that help it catch its prey. In addition, she lives in incredible depths, where sunlight does not penetrate. So if you ever happen to see this terrifying creature, its glowing skin and nightmarish teeth will probably leave you with horrible memories!

10. Black Dragonfish

Photo: wikimedia commons

With razor-sharp teeth, this alien-like fish lives deep in the ocean and generates its own light.

9. Giant Spider Crab

Photo: commons.wikimedia.org

Sometimes we are just scared of the size. Descending to a depth of 300 meters, you will find the largest crab on Earth. It can be up to 4 meters!

8. Pacific Snake Fish

Photo: wikimedia commons

Living many kilometers below the surface of the ocean, these creatures boast teeth so large that they cannot even close their mouths.

7. Squid is a vampire

Photo: commons.wikimedia.org

His name, Vampyroteuthis infernalis, literally translates to "vampire squid from hell." Why? This underwater squid lives underwater, where sunlight does not penetrate, and if you attack it, the squid will turn inside out, exposing dozens of thorny spines. What could be worse? Imagine if a person did this ...

6. Drop fish

Photo: commons.wikimedia.org

While this creature will not do you any harm, it can overwhelm you with any desire to go on a deep sea dive. The drop fish was even called "the ugliest creature" and, looking at this photo, it becomes clear why. She's so disgusting that it gets scary!

5. Johnson Melanocet (Humpback Monkfish)

Photo: en.wikipedia.org

This deep-sea monster lures its prey with a glowing stick that sticks out of its head.

4. Grimpoteutis (Octopus Dumbo)

Photo: wikimedia commons

While they may look quite cute, these guys are known to wrap their prey in ruffle-like arms before they eat it.

3. Barrel-Eye Fish (Ghost Fish)

Photo: wikimedia commons

This utterly insane looking deep sea creature has a transparent head, which allows the fish to look upward with its barrel-shaped eyes. Imagine that while you are swimming in the ocean depths, a transparent head with two disgusting eyes inside approaches you. Although this fish will not eat you, its disgusting appearance is enough to regret this meeting.

2. Fish-stargazer

Photo: en.wikipedia.org

They burrow into the ocean floor, exposing their bulging eyes-balls out. When the unfortunate fish swims up, they ... eat it.

1. Black gulper

Photo: wikimedia commons

Perhaps the scariest creature on our list, this fish can swallow prey more than twice its size and 10 times its weight.

"Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn"
"In his house at R'lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming"
"In his house in R'lyeh, the dead Cthulhu sleeps, waiting in the wings."

One of the most famous legendary creatures in literary history.
A creature that has given a charge of inspiration for hundreds of people of art for many centuries to come.
A creature that inspires fear and horror, awe and anxiety.
A creature slumbering at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean in the city of R'leh.
A creature that everyone has heard about, but at the same time, about which many do not know anything.

Dear readers, especially for the Horror kitchen, for the first time in the history of mankind we managed to interview the great and the terrible. I ask you to love, favor and tremble, today our guest is Cthulhu!

Horror-Kitchen:
The first question that worries all of humanity from the very moment we learned about your existence: "When will you awaken?"

Cthulhu:
You - mortals, must understand first of all the following - for the ancients (like me) there is no concept of "time". We seem to exist outside of it. We are not alien to loneliness, boredom or fatigue.

We have existed here long before you and will exist for a very long time, even after the sunset of your mortal lives. But, since this is interesting to you, soon, very soon the time will come when the stars will line up in the right sequence and my city R "will rise from the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.

My followers, whom you call the Cult of Cthulhu, will cast ancient spells and awaken me from my sleep. You can easily understand that your end is near, because everyone and everyone on that day who lives on this earth will become wild and free, they will be on the other side of good and evil, they will cast aside laws and morals, they will shout, kill and have fun!

Horror-Kitchen:
Great, you say, the city of R'leh is located at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. One, shall we say, an expert on your history told us that it is located ...

Cthulhu:

What other connoisseur?

Horror-Kitchen:
It will not help you in any way, he has been dead for a long time. His name was H. Lovecraft. So, he and another researcher of your history - a friend of Lovecraft's August Derleth, told that your "house" is located approximately in these coordinates. How right were they?

Cthulhu:
I do not understand how such primitive creatures, who are not members of my cult, were able to determine, albeit not the exact, but rather correct location of my city ...

Horror-Kitchen:
Regardless, our readers would also like to know more about a small incident that took place just within the coordinates above. In the summer of 1997, a strange sound called "Bloop" was recorded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Scientists argue that if this sound was made by a living creature, then its dimensions should exceed the size of a blue whale. Do you have anything to do with this?

Cthulhu:
I have no idea what kind of sound it is ...

Horror-Kitchen:
Nevertheless, this recording caused a lot of speculation on the topic that you could have caused this sound and that this is a sign before the coming end of the world, which was then prophesied in 2000.

Cthulhu:
?!

Horror-Kitchen:
I understand your bewilderment, in fact, in 2012, they also promised the end of the world, since the calendar ...

Cthulhu:
To be honest, I don't understand why you people are so eager to end your days. You are so glad that you are living, but nevertheless constantly planning the next date for your graduation. I assure you, the day of my awakening is not indicated anywhere, because I alone know what position of the stars is necessary to raise my house from the bottom of the ocean.

Horror-Kitchen:
What about your name? Still, how is it pronounced correctly?

Cthulhu:
The first syllable is pronounced guttural and hoarse.
The letter [u] is pronounced similar to English full.
The letter [h] stands for guttural wheezing.

Horror-Kitchen:
It sounds creepy, but it's very difficult to repeat ...

Cthulhu:
Still, with one language. Although for your primitive speeches, more is not needed.

Horror-Kitchen:
What is the name of your language?

Cthulhu:
R'laysky .

Horror-Kitchen:
Okay, now tell us who you are and how did you come to be on Earth?

Cthulhu:
Boldly, mortal ... But I will answer. I don't think that if I tell you everything only about myself, then you will understand at least something of what I have said. Therefore, I'll start from the very beginning. There are creatures. Creatures that are as ancient as the universe itself. In your language, the closest name to them is Ancient. They have not been with us for a long time. They lived on Earth for a long time and disappeared long ago.

Horror-Kitchen:
So they are most likely dead now, right?

Cthulhu:
Do not blaspheme, mortal! The Ancients were, the Ancients are, and the Ancients will be. Not in the spaces that we know about, but in between. They walk imperturbable and primordial, dimensionless and invisible to us. I am Cthulhu - a blood brother to them and a driver of their slaves. Now they are limited in strength. Why, I cannot answer. But I feel that some of them are still on Earth ...

Horror-Kitchen:
It turns out that since they lived so many millennia ago, it means they created everything on our planet?

Cthulhu:
Of course no. The ancients don't care about creating a species as primitive as you. You were created by another race. No less ancient. They came to Earth long before the Ancients and they are called the Elders. They are themselves highly evolved fungi. They left their home planet due to a man-made crisis and settled with you. Here they created absolutely all living organisms, including the prototype of man.

Horror-Kitchen:
The logical question is, why?

Cthulhu:
They were building a new civilization - their new home. First, they settled in all the reservoirs, and then moved on to land.

Horror-Kitchen:
No, I'm talking about us. Why it was necessary to create a person. We evolved pretty quickly and continue to evolve to this day. What was the purpose of the Elders?

Cthulhu:
Food, mortal. They took you out for delicious meat, nothing more. The fact that you have evolved does not mean anything. This is an unforeseen circumstance, that's all.

Horror-Kitchen:
To summarize, people and all living things were created by ancient aliens called "Elders". A little later, the Ancients arrived on the planet, who today have practically lost their power. You, as a blood brother of the Ancients, also arrived on earth. What for?

Cthulhu:
I and my descendants like me arrived on earth with the aim of seizing power on this planet and gaining its territory. It was a fierce war, during which we drove the elders back under the water. In the end, a peace was signed, according to which all the land remained for me and my descendants, and for the Elders - underwater cities. The most magnificent of them were erected in Antarctica.

Horror-Kitchen:
And what happened to R "lieh?

Cthulhu:
The bowels of the earth shifted and many cities went under water. The ancient continent of Mu went there, where the first people were created by the Elders. My city also went to the bottom. Many of my descendants left other cities and went to the bottom with me. Once again, the bulk of power remained in the hands of the Elders. But they felt that I was still alive and that the Ancients were alive with me. They felt it and were afraid.

Horror-Kitchen:
And yet, why does your awakening threaten us with the end of the world?

Cthulhu:
For you, yes, it will be the end of the world. But also the day of the rebirth of my civilization. You will die because you are like mosquitoes to us. You simply will not survive when colossal cities are erected again and my descendants populate the earth.

Horror-Kitchen:
Well, that explains a lot. Thanks to the great Cthulhu for this interview.

If such an interview really existed, then it would be something like this. All the answers to the questions were selected based on the content of H. Lovecraft's books and stories: "The Call of Cthulhu", "Ridges of Madness", "Shadow over Innsmouth", "Dagon", "Out of Time", etc.

However, there is still a lot more worth mentioning outside the scope of this interview.

Howard Lovecraft is called the father of 20th century horror for a reason. He deservedly received this name and bears it along with the great E.A. By. A writer can be considered talented if he has managed to bring something new to the genre, after his predecessor. Lovecraft succeeded. After all, to some extent, he is also the father of science fiction. Almost all of his works have an open end and the author, as it were, offers us room for thought and independent unification of Lovecraft's universe into a single whole. It is for this reason that we still find echoes of his work in a variety of works, from books to movies and computer games.

In fact, by knowing the common elements of the mythology created by Lavrkaft, it is very easy to find references to him. Let's take probably the closest example for visitors to this site - Warcraft. We are talking about the Ancient Gods (K "tun, Yogi" Saron, etc.). Even the name of one of the ancients is similar - Yogi "Sothoth. Theoretically, if we take Lovecraft as a basis, we can assume what the further plot of the add-ons will be.

Returning to the topic of our article, a film was made about Cthulhu in 2005 based on the book of the same name by Lovecraft - "The Call of Cthulhu". And it was stylized like a silent black and white film.

In 2007, they shoot a color film based on the book "Shadow over Innsmouth" - "Cthulhu", which tells about the cult of this god.

There are no more films about Cthulhu. All others only intersect with this theme for the reason that they talk about other creatures from the pantheon of "gods" created by Lovecraft.

First of all, this is a film that once made a great impression on me - "Dagon". Again, based on the book "Shadow over Innsmouth". This film, the most closely intersecting with the theme of Cthulhu (by the way, the film "Cthulhu" of 2007 also intersects with its plot).

There is an announcement for a film based on the book "Ridges of Madness", which will tell us about the Elders, but at the moment the project is not developing and there is no data, including teasers and trailers. It's worth the wait, as a well-formed plot of the film will be very impressive.

As for the computer games industry, here I will focus on the game "Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth". The game is notable for many advantages, ranging from a detailed reflection of Lovecraft's mythology in the game and ending with a mixture of genres, the latter below.

Initially, we find ourselves in a kind of quest - find an inconspicuous thing in the corner and use it to open the door. Further, the game will delight us with stealth missions, the elaboration of which, in comparison with other games, leaves much to be desired. Particularly noteworthy is the transition of the game to a survival simulation, designed in the framework of the chases. Sound effects, dialogues, locks on the doors, cabinets at the doors - all the elements are made to the highest standard.

Next, the game is a transition to a shooter with elements of quest and stealth missions, in this genre it will remain until the end of the game. It goes without saying that it was not without giant creatures. Despite the name of the game, Cthulhu will not be shown to us, but there will be two other creatures - Dagon and Hydra.

There is still a lot of unsaid, which, I think, is quite interesting, so here are some interesting facts about the Lovecraft universe:

  • Dagon and Hydra are most likely the "Descendants of Cthulhu", despite the fact that they are called the father and mother of the race of the Deep Ones, their enmity with the Elders and the worship of the Deep Ones, namely the trinity of Dagon, Hydra, Cthulhu, makes us conclude about their belonging to the "Descendants of Cthulhu";
  • "Father Dagon and Mother Hydra" these two are most likely spouses;
  • Most of the opponents in Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth are a race of the deep sea;
  • The Deep Ones are a race that combines the traits of humans, fish, and toads;
  • The deep ones often cooperate with people, the former bring fish for them, and the latter give their wives for the reproduction of the deep sea race;
  • We can meet one of the Elders in the movie "Hellboy II: The Golden Army";
  • We can meet the ancient Yog-Sothoth in one of the episodes of the series "Doctor Who", where he is called "The Great Intellect" and his abilities in relation to transformations very accurately reflect the essence of the Ancients;
  • The fictional book "Necronomicon" (containing descriptions of terrible rituals, spells, etc.), passing through a thin thread through all the plots of Lovecraft's books, supposedly actually exists: in the British Museum, in the National Library of France, in the library of Harvard University, at the university Buenos Aires (as well as in two other non-existent libraries);
  • Reading the Necronomicon is prohibited, as it is dangerous for mental health and because of this in libraries it is kept secret from everyone;
  • The Necronomicon is the intersection of Lovecraft's work and the Evil Dead film series;
  • Cthulhu is known for its mental abilities, but due to the fact that it is deep under water, only sensitive people (writers, artists, musicians, etc.) can hear its thoughts;
  • A lot of songs were written on the subject of Lovecraft's books, and one of them - "The Thing That Should Not Be" by "Metallica"

That's all, dear readers. Thank you for your attention and for your interest in my work.
See you soon at the Horror Kitchen.

Recently, the American military has begun to demonstrate surprising fearfulness. Say, our submarine "Kazan", which has just been launched in Severodvinsk, is "the most terrible enemy of the US Navy." This is exactly what the authoritative American magazine National Interest stated. They are convinced that the US Navy has not yet known a rival like her. And they believe that the boat will be used primarily for "hunting for American strategic nuclear submarines." So what kind of beast is this - the Kazan Project 885M Yasen-M nuclear submarine?

Second of thirty

Kazan is a multipurpose submarine. That is, it is intended not only to combat aircraft carriers and strategic submarines of a potential enemy, but also critical infrastructure on the coast. To do this, she has a set of cruise missiles, torpedoes, a digital control system, detection and guidance of weapons. Moreover, it is practically silent (and after all, once the Americans called our submarines "roaring cows") and detects the enemy before he can detect it. And in the submarine war, whoever heard the first won. "Kazan" in terms of noise, at least, is not inferior to Western competitors. So, the Americans are not in vain afraid of our submarines. But for some reason they do it with a delay: the "older sister" of "Kazan" "Severodvinsk" has been in service since 2014. However, they were just as scared when our multipurpose submarines of the previous, third generation, "Pike-B".

"Pike" cost our budget $ 785 million each. Not cheap, of course. But it was then that the construction of Seawolf hunting boats at a cost of $ 4.6 billion per unit began in the United States to combat them. It was then that it became clear that the efforts of the entire NATO fleet "Pike" could be destroyed, but the price would be "real devastation" of the coastal infrastructure, as well as the loss of at least one or two aircraft carriers. It got to the point that in 1991 the US Congress proposed to demand from Russia to make public its long-term programs in the field of submarine shipbuilding, as well as to help it in the conversion of shipyards that build nuclear submarines for the production of non-military products.

The fourth generation Yasen submarines are the most advanced ships in our fleet. If in the newest submarine missile carriers of the Borei type the equipment used for the first time is about 40%, then in the Kazan, built according to the improved project, all the systems, components and mechanisms have never been used anywhere and have been manufactured exclusively in Russia. Today on the stocks of "Sevmash" there are four more such submarines: "Novosibirsk", "Krasnoyarsk", "Arkhangelsk" and "Perm". The laying of the seventh, "Ulyanovsk", is planned for this year. This project is a Russian response to the American nuclear submarines SeaWolf and Virginia. It was originally planned to build 30 Ash trees. By 2020, the Russian Navy expects to receive seven ships.

Submarine slug The design of "Ash" is strikingly different from the majority of Soviet nuclear submarines, which had a double-hull design. They do not have a lightweight hull that wraps around a robust hull and enhances boat noise like a resonator as it moves. The Ash's lightweight body is covered by a strong one only in the bow, where a large spherical antenna of the automated digital hydroacoustic station “Amphora-Irtysh” is located. There, in the first compartment, is the central post. Because of this, it was necessary to remove the torpedo tubes from it, placing them in the second one at an angle to the center plane of the ship, on the side of five pieces. There are also 30 torpedoes of ammunition. The third compartment contains auxiliary and general ship equipment. The fourth compartment houses the crew quarters. The fifth missile compartment: eight vertical launchers (4 on each side), which can accommodate 24 Onyx, Turquoise or Caliber-PL anti-ship missiles. Launch four minutes after receiving the command. This is the ship's main weapon. In the sixth compartment is another highlight of Project 885 - a new generation reactor, the primary coolant pipelines of which are located directly in its hull, which significantly increases the reliability of the submarine's power system. This design not only reduces the likelihood of accidents and emergency situations, but also significantly reduces the noise of the submarine. After all, the boat will be able to go at high speed without using circulating pumps - one of the main sources of noise. The seventh compartment contains a steam turbine unit and other power equipment.

The eighth compartment houses a propeller motor. In the ninth - tiller compartment. Various vibration-absorbing materials are actively used in the construction of "Ash", all equipment is mounted on special frames that reduce the noise of their operation. In addition, each unit is covered with its own soundproofing panels. The ship's hull also has a special rubber coating to reduce the ship's visibility to sonars. The Project 885 Yasen nuclear submarine is equipped with a low-noise propeller with seven blades of a special saber shape. The submarine's hull has a maximum length of 139 meters and a width of 13 meters. The ship's robust hull is divided into nine compartments. In the first compartment there is an exit to a pop-up rescue chamber, which can accommodate the entire crew of a 64-person submarine.

"Kazan" is undergoing sea trials, and after their completion it will be transferred to the Russian Navy. This is expected to happen next year. And, as the experience of recent years shows, the new nuclear-powered ship will not remain idle. “Last year, in terms of the number of running days, we reached the level that was before the post-Soviet period,” said the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Vladimir Korolyov. - This is more than three thousand days at sea. An excellent indicator. "

It seems that the Russian submarine fleet managed to get rid of the curse of the recent past, when the shortage of trained crews in all fleets coincided with the lack of serviceable ships. After all, it is impossible to learn maritime business on land. It is the high level of automation, coupled with the significantly increased training of sailors, warrant officers, and officers in recent years, that are the basis of the combat capabilities of the new submarine.
