The emergence [ | ]

For the first time, the image of Iron Man appeared in Tales of suspense# 39 (March 1963). It was created by writer Stan Lee, screenwriter Larry Leiber and artists, and Jack Kirby.

I thought this was a pretty daring idea. It was the height of the Cold War. Our readers, young readers, if there was the only thing that they hated, then it was a war, it was an army ... And I created a hero who corresponded to this image one hundred percent. He was a manufacturer of weapons, supplied weapons to the army, was rich, was an industrialist ... I thought it would be fun to create a character that nobody likes, none of our readers, and feed him to them, and make him love ... And he really became very popular.

Original text (eng.)

I think I gave myself a dare. It was the height of the Cold War. The readers, the young readers, if there was one thing they hated, it was war, it was the military .... So I got a hero who represented that to the hundredth degree. He was a weapons manufacturer, he was providing weapons for the Army, he was rich, he was an industrialist .... I thought it would be fun to take the kind of character that nobody would like, none of our readers would like, and shove him down their throats and make them like him .... And he became very popular.

After creating the character, the task was to give direction to the creation of an external image. According to Jerry Conway, “the character of the hero showed external equanimity even when the internal state was like a wound. Stan created it in such a way that Stark's heart was literally torn apart. But sometime any pain passes and our hero returns his inner world to its original state. All this, I think, made the character interesting, which required a certain appearance. " And Stan Lee took as a basis the image of the most famous at that time "inventor, adventurer, multibillionaire, womanizer and, finally, psycho" - Howard Hughes. He explained it this way: “Howard Hughes was one of the brightest people of our time. But he was not crazy - he was Howard Hughes. "

While Lee was working on the hero's story and arguing with the Liber company about the long flesh out, Don Heck and Jack Kirby created the cover for the first issue, as well as Iron Man's assistants, Pepper Potts and Happy Hogan, based on ideas from author Tony Stark. The original Iron Man suit was bulky, covered in a gray carbon-iron alloy. By the second issue, the armor had turned to gold (no. 40). The original, titanium, golden-red-colored suit was first presented in No. 48 Tales of Suspense by Steve Ditko. As Don Heck recalls: "Compared to the first design, this one was lighter, more elegant than the one that was invented by Kirbish ...".

In the first storylines of Iron Man, an anti-communist direction was observed, expressed in the struggle of the protagonist against opponents from China, Vietnam and other countries of the Asian region. Later, Stan Lee, regretting the attention to this problem, transferred Stark's activities to help the US Army, to participate in the development of civil defense. The history of Iron Man's personal life also developed, for example, the problems with drunkenness and mental state shown in the "Demon in a Bottle" series.

Biography [ | ]

The son of the wealthy industrialist Howard Stark, Tony was a genius inventor and mechanic. He inherited his father's business at the age of 21, making the company one of the world's leading arms manufacturers. Stark was wounded in the chest by a shrapnel during a field test for the suitability of combat armor, which was supposed to endow the soldiers with combat capabilities. Stark was taken prisoner by gunslord Wong Chu, forcing him to create a weapon of mass destruction - only then would Tony receive the surgery necessary to save his life.

Together with his friend and former prisoner Ho Jinsen, Nobel Prize winner in physics, Stark began working on a modified exoskeleton equipped with heavy weapons. Secretly even from Stark, Jinsen designed a protective chest plate to support the inventor's wounded heart. Stark donned a suit to try to escape from captivity, but Professor Jinsen himself was killed in a decisive battle. He gave his life so that Iron Man could live.

Defeating the gunsmith, Stark returned to America and redesigned the suit. By inventing the story that Iron Man was his guard, Stark entered a double life as a billionaire inventor and costumed adventurer. Early enemies sent spies and foreign agents with the intent to steal Stark's armor and military secrets. After some time, Stark stopped protecting only his personal interests. He also became involved in issues of national and international security. Iron Man even helped found the Avengers and became a sponsor of their team.

Despite his immense wealth, Stark's life is not perfect. Starting his career, he was forced to wear a chest plate at all times to protect his heart. Stark is also a former alcoholic, and his personal life is a mess. In many cases, Iron Man is the release and sheath he wears to keep the world around him aside.

Iron Man's enemies took many forms, from conquerors claiming global domination and corporate rivals to super-criminals and foreign agents seeking to outperform or steal his technology.

Stark grew up feeling an increasing responsibility for the use of his technology around the world. Stark Enterprises has severed ties with the government, focusing on technology that will improve people's lives.

Taught in his youth to pay those who helped him live such a comfortable life, Stark founded many charitable foundations and institutions. With an increasing sense of responsibility, he reached a new level of maturation. Comparing his secret more with debt than with personal property, Stark decided to reveal to the world that he is Iron Man. With the burden of a double life on his shoulders, Stark found himself in unfamiliar territory as one of the few publicly known heroes.

Civil War[ | ]

After learning of the government's plans to push through the Superhuman Registration Act, which would force costumed superheroes to reveal their identities to the government and become legal agents, Iron Man looked for a way to get the Law passed, even taking steps such as hiring a Titanium Man to attack during the hearing of the law. to win opinions to your side. Stark tried to persuade the rest of the superheroes to support the new Act, stating that their participation could prevent the Law from having large restrictions on their activities, but all except Mister Fantastic rejected the idea of Registration.

During the battle in Stamford between the New Warriors and a pair of supervillains, the explosion killed several hundred people, including 60 children. The event turned public opinion against superheroes and precipitated the passage of the law. Stark publicly spoke out in support of Registration, but the new law divided the heroes into two camps. Stark became the leader and public face of the Pro-Registration Party. His first major public move as a Registrar was to reveal his alter ego, Iron Man (Civil War: Front Line # 1). He convinced Spider-Man to join him and do the same. Spider-Man, after growing worries about Stark's overzealousness, doubted his choice of side and later joined the Anti-Registration Block after learning of a prison in the Negative Zone that was designed to contain the Anti-Registration heroes. As a result, these heroes and the forces of Iron Man met in a decisive battle, which ended when Captain America, horrified by the destruction during the battle and realizing that his actions would not lead to the repeal of the law, surrendered.

In Civil War # 7, Stark becomes director of S.I.T.

Shortly after these events of the Civil War, Captain America was killed. Despite his fervent faith in the registration law, Tony Stark, bending over the body of Captain America, said that most of his actions in the name of the laws "are not worth such a sacrifice" and later said at his funeral that "it should not have all ended like this." ...

The Expulsion and Return of the Hulk[ | ]

“Yes, I sent the Hulk into space. If you have anyone to blame for his return ... blame me. " - Iron Man.

Together with the rest of the Illuminati, Iron Man made the decision to expel the Hulk from Earth and was held accountable for his deed when he returned back in search of revenge. Fortunately, Stark envisioned this possibility and met the green giant in his new Hulkbuster armor. During the battle, most of New York was destroyed and burned, the battle was so fierce that the other heroes could not even come close and help. The Stark Tower also could not resist and was destroyed, after which the Hulk captured Tony and sent him to the stadium to fight the rest of the heroes. When all attempts to stop the enraged Hulk were exhausted, Stark aimed the lasers of the orbiting satellites on the Hulk, which he installed, becoming the director of Shch.I.T. This powerful beam deprived the green giant of his senses. Iron Man had to withdraw huge funds from numerous accounts (mostly from the funds of Shch. I. T.) in order to restore the Avengers Tower and some other buildings in New York.

When Thor returned and learned about the events of the registration law, he was enraged that Iron Man was waging a war against superhero friends and, together with others, without his knowledge and permission, used his DNA to create a clone of Thor.

Tony fought with Thor, but it soon became clear that he could not win. Seeking a compromise, Stark suggested treating Asgard as a foreign embassy with diplomatic immunity to its inhabitants. Thor found this acceptable and the battle ended.

Tony arrived at the remains of the X-Men Mansion to speak with Cyclops. He informed the former X-Men leader that the government wants the X-Men to register. To which Scott replied that there are no more X-Men, and they will be registered from birth.

Secret Invasion[ | ]

During the Secret Invasion, Stark's armor was infected with an alien virus. Due to the influence of the virus, the Skrull Queen Veranka, who took the form of Spider-Woman, almost managed to persuade Iron Man to her ranks, but the timely appearance of the Black Widow saved Tony Stark. Under Natasha's cover, Tony repaired his damaged armor and led the heroes of New York against the invaders. However, in the middle of the fight, his armor began to malfunction, forcing him to return to Avengers Tower for another. The President of the United States blamed Stark for the Skrull attack and not only removed him from the post of Director of Shch.I.T., but also outlawed this organization. Although the battle against the aliens was won, Tony suffered a great loss - his technologies did not function, his corporation was on the verge of bankruptcy, he had many enemies and had no friends willing to help him with his problems.

Dark Dominion[ | ]

After the Secret Invasion, Tony was removed from office, and Shch. I. T. was disbanded. Norman Osborne created his own M.O.L.O.T. Also, the new organization was entrusted with the conduct of all previous affairs of Shch. I. T., including control over the project "Initiative". Stark had to give Osborne the database of this project, which contained detailed information on every superhero and villain on Earth, including their real names. However, Tony gave him a fake database to cite in its entirety:

“The beginning of the database.

Iron Man. Anthony's real name is Edward Stark.

End of the database. "

When Tony returned home, Pepper Potts and Maria Hill began asking him where the real information was. It turned out that Iron Man took advantage of the "Extreme" virus and wrote all the information into his brain. However, if he is arrested by agents of M.O.L.O.T., they will still be able to read the data. Therefore, Stark began to carry out a plan developed some time ago specifically for such cases. He gave Maria Hill some kind of high-tech hard drive and told her to find Captain America (Barnes). Pepper was assigned to lead the Stark Enterprises with the sole purpose of filing for corporate bankruptcy. And Tony himself began to travel around the world, came to his many hideouts and gradually erased the database from his head. However, despite the Extremeis virus, his brain was not a computer disk, and all the information in it was interconnected. Because of this, Tony developed constantly progressive memory lapses, and his IQ dropped significantly with each memory erasure procedure. It soon became difficult for him to use the modern model of armor, and had to put on more and more old armor.

Meanwhile, Pepper Potts discovered a cache specially created for her, which contained armor that resembled the armor of Iron Man, but was devoid of any weapons. All the technical means of the suit were designed to protect and rescue people. Pepper became a superheroine nicknamed The Savior.

Norman Osborne did not doze. He managed to catch Potts and Hill, as well as the Black Widow, who was helping the former deputy director of Shch.I.T., but all three managed to escape. Instead, the M.O.L.O.T.Agents tracked down Tony Stark, who was on his way to his final hideout in Afghanistan for a final erasure session. By this time, he could hardly remember who he was. Only the oldest and most primitive armor remained at his disposal, the "tin can" (Tin Can), or Mark 00 (Mark 00). Osborne arrived in the Afghan desert in his Iron Patriot costume and was about to kill Tony when a press helicopter suddenly appeared. Osborne had to show that he obey the laws, so he left Stark alive, hoping to get at least a small part of the database. However, during the fight, Tony managed to erase the remnants of his memory.

Decay [ | ]

Tony was now in an extremely deplorable state. Was erased not only his personality and mind, but all the reflexes of the body, including congenital. Even breathing had to be maintained artificially, although neither the brain nor internal organs were damaged. Since Stark was brought to public attention, Osborne was still unable to kill him. After some thought, he came to the conclusion that Iron Man was no longer dangerous. Even if he could regain his memory, he had neither armor nor the ability to create a new one. In addition, if he does return to normal existence, he will be immediately arrested and put on trial. Therefore, Osborne put Tony in the care of Dr. Donald Blake, who lives in the town of Bronkston, Oklahoma.

In fact, Thor lived in the city under the guise of Blake. He immediately summoned Pepper Potts, Maria Hill, Jim Rhodes, Captain America (Rogers, who had just come back to life) and Doctor Strange. Rhodes found a video of Tony leaving instructions on what to do next. First, the doctors placed a repulsorlift reactor in his chest. With the help of the Extremeis virus, Stark has long been improving his body, so there were some "deviations from the norm", for example, wires in the lungs. Next, the hard drive, which Hill kept together with the Black Widow and Bucky Barnes, was connected to Tony's head through special ports. It turned out that Tony had written all his memories to disk some time ago, but there was no Initiative database there. The memory was written into the brain, and then Thor, with the help of a very weak electrical discharge, passed through Captain America's shield, forced the brain cells to accept it. After that, Tony should have woken up, but this did not happen immediately. Doctor Strange had to work hard to keep the brain functioning normally.

So Tony Stark is back. However, his memory was copied from a backup that was made before the Civil War. Consequently, Tony did not remember anything that happened after. Upon learning of the Civil War and the death of Captain America, he was horrified, even though Cap was alive again.

Siege and subsequent events[ | ]

All this happened shortly before the siege of Asgard, and Osborne had no time for Iron Man. Therefore, he calmly sat at Donald Blake's house and read the press of a period that he did not remember. Tony Stark's body has been rebuilt. Now his brain was connected to the reactor and acted faster, that is, Stark was smarter than ever. During the Siege, Tony, along with the rest of the heroes, resisted the forces of the Iron Patriot, using the old armor that miraculously survived.

When Osborne was arrested and M.O.L.O.T. Stark Enterprises was declared bankrupt, and Tony founded a new corporation, Stark Resilient, specializing in the production of repulsor reactors - the next generation of energy sources. He also created new armor. From Thor's electrical discharge, the Extremeis virus was partially unblocked, and Stark completely fused the armor with his body. Now, if necessary, he does not put on armor, but simply turns into Iron Man.

Animated series [ | ]

  • In the first animated series "Invincible Iron Man" from the 1966 "Marvel Superheroes" series, he is the main character of the animated series, which lasted only one season out of 13 episodes.

The military equipment of the American army is branded "Stark Industries". Robert Downey Jr. himself appeared as Stark in the post-credits scene, showing the film's connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The second film about Stark was released on May 7 (in Russia on April 29), 2010. This is where his famous suitcase armor is shown for the first time. The main villain was Ivan Vanko, with the Black Widow and Nick Fury playing key roles.

The appearance of the Destroyer summons one of the agents of SHIELD. Association with Stark Industries: "Hello from Stark?" To this, Agent Phil Colson replies, “I don’t know. He doesn't tell me anything. "

The third part of the legendary Marvel franchise is released. Its hero, Tony Stark, appeared in comics exactly fifty years ago, back in 1963. Since then, he has managed to change dozens of costumes, acquire new enemies and girlfriends, and most importantly, become one of the most popular characters in the Marvel universe. decided to compile a detailed guide to the world of Iron Man.

The origin of the hero

Iron Man first appeared in Marvel comics in March 1963. The character, invented by both artists and, at first did not have a separate comic, so he became a regular participant in the Tales of Suspense anthology. There he fought for public attention with Captain America, who was gaining popularity again during the so-called Silver Age of Comics (ca. 1956-1970). In 1968, Marvel launched the first Iron Man. It only lasted 332 issues, but formed the canon of the Iron Man universe. Moreover, the early issues, in accordance with Stan Lee's plan, were a platform for expressing anti-communist views and thoughts about the Cold War with the Soviet Union. However, after the Vietnam War, the comic gradually lost its political relevance and switched to more impersonal conflicts such as corporate crime and terrorism.

Tony Stark, hiding under the guise of Iron Man, describes himself in the film "" (2012) as "a genius, billionaire, playboy and philanthropist." According to Stan Lee, this look was based on the persona of Howard Hughes, a famous 1950s inventor, businessman and adventurer. In addition, he was supposed to represent an idealized version of the American industrialist. This led Tony Stark to first actively participate in various charity events, and then to the fact that the Stark company, which was engaged in the production of weapons, gradually switched to the creation of computer developments and electronics. Unlike the Iron Man films, where Stark's image has benefited from the fact that he is a superhero, in the comics, Tony carefully hides this fact. Moreover, he even passes off Iron Man as his bodyguard. One of the first to find out the secret was his fiance (no, not Pepper Potts), who convinced him to become a superhero. Success in this field, however, led to a break in the engagement, but contributed to the formation of Stark as one of the most loving heroes of the Marvel universe.

The dark side of Tony Stark

However, the life of Anthony Edward Stark (this is the full name of the hero) is far from cloudless. The Hollywood version of the character smooths out his character flaws in order to attract a minor audience. While Tony Stark is portrayed in darker tones in the early Iron Man comics, the Stark industrialist is often portrayed as a smug and arrogant man who believes that the end justifies the means. Suffering from the pain caused by the shrapnel trapped in his chest, Stark seeks solace at the bottom of the bottle. It is no coincidence that throughout most of his history, Tony Stark has been fighting alcohol addiction and even attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. However, frequent clashes with powerful enemies from time to time lead to breakdowns and binges. So, for example, after the official announcement that he is Iron Man, Stark accepts the offer to become the US Secretary of Defense. However, a drunken brawl in the UN building, provoked by one of his girlfriends, leads to the fact that Stark's political career ends before it can begin.

Capabilities

Being an ordinary person by birth, Stark is devoid of any superpowers. He compensates for this with such a developed intellect that he is considered one of the most gifted characters in the Marvel Universe. (At 15, child prodigy Tony entered the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to study engineering.) In early comics, Tony Stark received some combat training from Captain America, and later issues mention that Stark's trainers included his friend James Rhodes and even a professional boxer. At the same time, it is clear that Stark's functions without a suit involve little or no physical contact with enemies.

In relatively recent issues of Iron Man, it is said that after the collapse of his nervous system, Tony Stark replaced it with an artificial one. Thanks to this, he temporarily acquired supersensitivity and the ability to sense the biological processes taking place in his body. During a massive 2008 crossover called Secret Invasion, Stark injects a techno-organic substance called extremis into his nervous system, which completely rewrites his biology. Extremis allows Stark to almost merge with the Iron Man suit, as well as control any technique with the power of thought. This improved model of Tony Stark did not go beyond the crossover, and the extremis in his body struck another virus, which almost caused the death of the character.

Over the 50 years of the character's history, Iron Man has changed many costumes - from the very first one, collected in captivity from scrap metal at hand, through the classic red and yellow, drawn by the legend of the comics industry (in 1976), to the costumes created in the trilogy. In total, more than 50 costumes appear in the Iron Man comics, each of which was created either for a specific event (for example, for individual story arcs or crossovers), or for specific purposes (with an emphasis on flying ability, strength, water resistance, etc.) ... It should be noted that, despite popular belief, Tony Stark's costume has little in common with knightly armor. In fact, it consists of many tiny elements that can change their shape. Each of these elements has its own set of properties, but is capable of generating energy and controlling the whole suit. Thanks to this, Iron Man's equipment remains operational even after severe damage, and in an inactive state it can collapse to microscopic sizes. In addition to giving the wearer superhuman strength and the ability to fly, the suit is also equipped with a whole range of weapons (from machine guns to rocket launchers) and communications (radio, radar).

Love interests

The need to make Stark attractive to a family audience led to the fact that in the trilogy "Iron Man" romantic relationship is associated with only one girl - Virginia Potts, better known by the nickname Pepper (). In the comics, Pepper was Stark's personal secretary, and at some point even served as chairman of the board of directors of his company. Although their romance ended in nothing (Pepper even married Stark's chauffeur), they remained close friends for life and Pepper was one of the few who knew that Tony Stark was a superhero. At the same time, not taking into account fleeting hobbies, about two dozen heroines appear in comics about Iron Man, spinning novels with Stark. In addition to ordinary girls, Stark had relationships with the daughters of his enemies (Janice Cord and Whitney Frost, known as Madame Mask), and even with superheroines (Janet van Dyne - Wasp, and Natasha Romanova - Black Widow, a former Soviet spy, and after - participant of the "Avengers" project).

There are dozens of Iron Man enemies in the Marvel Universe, but the most powerful of them are three: Mandarin, Justin Hammer and Doctor Doom (also the main enemy of the Fantastic Four):

Iron Man's Arch-Enemy Mandarin Is a megalomaniac who has repeatedly tried to conquer the world. He has an intellect that rivals that of Tony Stark, and is a martial artist who can destroy an Iron Man suit with his bare hands. The main source of his power is ten rings, forged from metal found by Mandarin at the crash site of an alien spaceship. Each of the rings has special properties and is worn on a specific finger.

Doctor Doom (Victor von Doom)- a genius inventor and a powerful sorcerer, capable of controlling any machines, calling hordes of demons from hell and copying the superpowers of other heroes using the technologies he creates. One of the significant losses in transferring the image of Doctor Doom to the screen in the Fantastic Four dilogy 2005-2007. (where he was played) was the rejection of his developed sense of honor, which did not allow him to attack weakened rivals, and on occasion even forced him to save their lives.

Justin Hammer- a wealthy American industrialist and Tony Stark's main rival in the fight for tenders for the supply of weapons to the military. Unlike Doctor Doom and Mandarin, Hammer has no superpowers. Hammer's main way of fighting Iron Man is to attract all kinds of mercenaries, to whom he provides the most advanced technologies and weapons in exchange for eliminating a competitor. In addition, he finances organized crime and supplies criminal gangs with weapons in exchange for 50% of the proceeds. In the comics, Justin Hammer is bred as a middle-aged man suitable for Tony Stark as a father. In the second "" (2010), the character's age was adjusted so that he was the same age as Stark (played by Sam Rockwell).

One of Tony Stark's closest friends is the military pilot James Rhodes (in the first film he played this role, in the subsequent ones). They met in Vietnam after Tony Stark's escape from captivity: Stark in a suit stumbled upon a pilot whose plane crashed, and together they made their way to the location of the American military. As a confidant of Stark, Rhodes acted as Iron Man on several occasions when Stark was either too drunk or recovering from his injuries. Subsequently, especially for Rhodes, Stark created a new costume in which the pilot became known as the superhero War Machine.

Also among Tony Stark's friends in the films are Pepper Potts (first as an assistant, then as a love interest), Happy Hogan - a bodyguard and chauffeur (played by who directed the first two films), Jensen (a scientist who helped the captive Stark create the first costume) and Jarvis (voiced; artificial intelligence, often acting as the voice of common sense). In addition to them, in the comics dedicated to Iron Man, Tony Stark has friendships with Peter Parker, Archangel and Cyclops (members of the original X-Men lineup), members of the Avengers (especially with Captain America and Thor) and with the Fantastic Four. In particular, its leader Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic) is repeatedly mentioned in comics as Tony Stark's best friend.

The Avengers and the SHIELD Agency

While Tony Stark is reluctant to join the superhero team in The Avengers, claiming to be "better at working alone," in the original comics, his role is much larger. For 50 years, Iron Man has been the central character in comics about this group of superheroes. Moreover, none other than Tony Stark and his girlfriend Wasp are the founders of the first Avengers, which also included Ant-Man, Thor and the Hulk. They were soon joined by Captain America, discovered by Stark in the polar ice and brought back to life using SHIELD technology. With the agency SHIELD T. under the control of spy Nick Fury () Tony Stark, they also have a long-standing partnership. His father, Howard Stark, was one of the founders of the agency, and Stark himself, in addition to participating in the Avengers initiative, acts as a consultant. It was the agency who recruited the Black Widow to guard Stark, with whom she had a passionate affair.

Alternative versions of the character

Like the universe described in DC comics, the Marvel Universe is a multiverse - with a huge (albeit finite) number of parallel worlds. Their chronology differs significantly from the main one, and the heroes of the main universe may well be villains in other worlds. Comics about alternate universes are grouped in DC under the Elseworlds imprint, and in Marvel partly under the What If? (What If ...?) At the same time, most of the alternate stories of Marvel superheroes remain unstructured. This also applies to comics about Iron Man.

The most unusual versions of Iron Man include:

1602: New World (Spanish gunsmith becomes villain Iron Lord);

"2093" (Stark and Doctor Doom find themselves in the distant future and are looking for the sword of King Arthur Excalibur);

"Earth X" (Stark builds a shelter from the plague, which endows everyone with superpowers. In the end, it turns out that the shelter is a huge war machine, built in the image of Godzilla); "Iron Maniac" (the villainous version of Iron Man from the universe where all the Avengers died fighting the alien Titanus);

"Iron Man Noir" (Stark searches for Atlantis in the 30s and fights the Nazis);

Zombie Marvel (Tony Stark is bitten by zombies, and in the end most of his body has to be replaced with cybernetics).

There are more than a hundred alternative versions of Iron Man (playing a major or minor role) in total, and even listing them all (not to mention reading) is not an easy task.

In the original version of his biography, Tony Stark, a brilliant inventor and wealthy industrialist with a reputation as a playboy, suffers from the injury he received in captivity, where he was forced to develop weapons of mass destruction for terrorists. Instead, he creates a high-tech armor suit, with which he escapes from captivity. Later, Stark upgrades his armor with weapons and devices created from the resources of his company, and uses armor to protect the world in the guise of Iron Man, while hiding his identity for the first time.

According to Jerry Conway, "the character of the hero showed external equanimity even when the internal state was like a wound. Stan created him in such a way that Stark's heart was literally torn apart.

Biography

The son of a wealthy industrialist, Tony Stark was a genius inventor and mechanic.

Civil War

The Expulsion and Return of the Hulk

Secret Invasion

Dark Dominion

Decay

Siege and subsequent events

The universe of Marvel comics has presented the world with a huge variety of superheroes, some of which cannot be forgotten. Of course, we are talking about a character nicknamed Iron Man (Tony Stark). The famous multimillionaire, conqueror of women's hearts and part-time brilliant scientist, thanks to his sense of humor, charisma and intelligence, won the hearts of millions and rightfully took one of the leading roles among superheroes. This character will be discussed in the article.

The emergence of a superhero

For the first time, the world heard about a hero named Tony Stark (Iron Man) back in 1963. At first, the character did not have his own comic book, and he had to fight for the attention of readers with such stars as Captain America, but he quickly gained popularity.

Already in 1968, Marvel launches a separate story about the hero. Although the series only lasted 332 episodes, it was able to shape the world of Iron Man. Originally, stories about this superhero, as conceived by author Stan Lee, expressed anti-communist ideas and became a platform for expressing thoughts about the Cold War with the Soviet Union. But after the failed Vietnam War, the series lost its political relevance and shifted to terrorism and corporate crime.

A few facts from the life of the character

Tony Stark (Iron Man) does not have any superpowers, which makes him stand out among other heroes. He was not bitten by radioactive spiders or brought from another planet, he was not struck by lightning, he did not wear a cloak or mask. The great scientist, thanks to his intelligence and ingenuity, was able to reach unprecedented heights.

The future superhero was born into the family of a wealthy industrialist, owner of the huge Stark Industries corporation. At the age of 15, this genius entered the Massachusetts Institute, and at 19 he celebrated his graduation. At the age of 21, Iron Man (Tony Stark), after the death of his parents, which happened as a result of a rigged car accident, becomes the head of the corporation. But for a young man, running the company has become an unbearable burden, so Stark entrusts a significant part of his affairs to his assistant Virginia Potts (Pepper).

Iron Man on the big screen

The idea to make a movie about the adventures of this superhero appeared back in 1990. It was at that time that the film companies 20th Century, Universal Studios, New Line Cinema began to film the comic strip. But in 2006 she bought all the rights to shoot. Since this was the first project solely financed by the film company "Marvell", its adaptation took so long.

Tony Stark - Iron Man, described below, is the first in a series of superhero adventures from the fictional Marvel universe.

The first film was directed by Jon Favreau. You can recognize him by his role as a friend of the protagonist Happy Hogan. John decided to distinguish the superhero from the rest, so the film about his adventures was filmed in California, and not as usual in New York. The director had his own approach to filming, he allowed the actors to freely change dialogues, if the content of the film did not suffer from this. Probably, this became the basis of the tremendous success with which this action was held in all cinemas of the world.

The film "Tony Stark - Iron Man": actors and roles

In addition to impressive special effects, the movie about the adventures of a superhero delighted with an excellent cast. Even before filming began, it was clear that this project was waiting for an unprecedented success. That is why such stars as Tom Cruise applied for participation in the film, and yes, many others wanted to get into the film "Tony Stark - Iron Man". The main role went to Robert Downey Jr. He brought to life a superhero and multimillionaire. The actor reached the age of 43 at the time of filming, so he had to carefully take care of his appearance and visit the gym at least 5 times a week.

Another world star who starred in this film is Gwyneth Paltrow. She played the role of the superhero's main assistant. It is noteworthy that at first the actress was not particularly eager to star in this film and agreed to participate only on the condition that the shooting would take place not far from her house.

The main villain and antagonist of Iron Man was masterfully brought to life by Jeff Bridges. The role of US Air Force Lieutenant Colonel James Rhodes (Rhodes) went to Terrence Howard. Artificial Intelligence, Tony Stark's butler, was voiced

The plot of the film

The story that Tony Stark - Iron Man tells us (the content is presented below) is slightly different from the comics. In the story, the main character is a multimillionaire and philanthropist who spent his life carefree. A lot of money is brought to him by the supply of various weapons for the needs of the army. One fine day, after the demonstration of a new project, Tony Stark was captured by terrorists from Afghanistan, who demand to create a Jericho missile for them. During the abduction, the main character was severely wounded in the chest. Despite the fact that Stark removed the largest fragments, small shrapnel lodged in his body and tries to get to his heart. That is why the main character inserts an electromagnet into his chest. Tony realizes that even if he creates a rocket, the terrorists will not let him go. So instead of "Jericho" the hero takes on the production of heavy armor, which helps to get out of captivity.

Returning home, Stark refuses to manufacture any weapons and spends all his time on creating a more perfect suit. According to the plot of the protagonist, more than one battle with terrorists awaits. He will have to protect the innocent, confront the US Air Force and unravel the conspiracy in his own company. Also, Iron Man (Tony Stark) will meet the mysterious group of SHIELD, which the hero will meet more than once in his future adventures.

Great success

He has never participated in such projects before, but he managed to create a great action game with amazing special effects. Especially successful, according to experts, were the flight scenes. And this is not surprising, because after the end of filming, Robert Downey worked for another 8 months on special effects in the studio in order to harmoniously convey the movements of the superhero. Critics praised the excellent cinematography and soundtrack for the film.

Terrence Howard, who played James Rhodey, left the project due to a royalty disagreement with Marvell Film Company, and Don Cheadle was selected to replace him. The leading actress Gwyneth Paltrow also wanted to demand an increase in pay, but after refusing, she decided to stay in the project and not create a scandal. But Robert Downey Jr. hit the jackpot.
