Each interior should have its own flavor, and often the simplest and most elegant option to bring uniqueness to a room is a painting.

But how do you find what will decorate your bedroom, living room or other room? Most likely, for an author's work, you will have to pay a large amount of money.

But if you do not count on additional expenses, but you still want to have something original, then it is quite possible to make an interesting picture with your own hands.

At the same time, it is not at all necessary to be able to draw well. After all, paintings in the usual sense have long been replaced by volumetric images on the walls, abstract ideas embodied in a variety of techniques.

DIY fabric paintings

All high quality canvases are made on a fabric basis. However, the modern interpretation of such paintings changes our view of art.

Modular fabric paintings have become very popular. But it's not so difficult to make them yourself. In stores now you can find a lot of fabrics with a very beautiful, interesting and bright print.

If you liked any of them, then you can safely buy it and make an author's decor item.

Modular picture

To create a room decoration such as a modular fabric painting, you will need a base in addition to the selected material. It may even be a door from an old cabinet or a piece of chipboard, which could well have been lying around somewhere in the garage after repairs.

Cut a few pieces from the base to fit your fabric and fit the wood over it. Make sure the fabric is taut and does not wrinkle. Your painting is almost complete. It remains only to attach the hooks for which it will be attached to the wall.

Most often, such paintings consist of three or more modules, which can be of the same size or differ. Their shape can also be different.

The most common and easy to manufacture are square and rectangular elements. But there are round, oval and other forms of modules for paintings. Frames for picture modules are not needed in this case.

Pictures of clothes

Even a T-shirt can become a decoration of your interior. It often happens that on clothes that you have not worn for so long, and their colors are still bright, spots or holes appear. You can not throw away the seemingly spoiled thing, but make an original picture out of it.

Cut a rectangle with a picture out of your clothes, glue it to paper and place in a frame. The photo shows that such paintings with the image of cartoon characters will perfectly fit into the interior of a children's room.

Embroidery

In some way, embroidery can also be attributed to fabric paintings. This method of decorating an interior is not new. Our great-grandmothers also had at least one self-embroidered image in their house.

However, to embroider a picture, you still need some skill and patience. This method is not suitable for everyone, but if you are doing needlework, then the pictures embroidered with your own hand can say a lot about you as a hostess.

Volumetric paintings

Embossed images on the wall are also very popular as decorative elements in the interior. Volumetric paintings can be made with plaster on the wall even before it is finished.

But such decoration can only take place when it is not planned to stick wallpaper on the wall.

Note!

The method of making such pictures requires training and a considerable amount of time. Therefore, it will not suit everyone.

Paper paintings

There is an easier way to make a 3D image. To do this, you will need colored paper or cardboard. Cut out several figures of the same or different sizes from it. These can be, for example, butterflies.

Use pins or double-sided tape to attach them to the wall in a random pattern or pattern. Your paper painting will look more impressive if you choose a color that contrasts with the tone of the wall itself.

The butterflies themselves can also be of different colors. Such a picture will sparkle with new colors when artificial lighting is on, so it will look most advantageous in rooms where the light is turned on most often, for example, in the corridor.

If your house has a staircase to the second floor, then the kittens will look original in different poses, placed on the wall, to which the steps adjoin.

Pictures from bushings

Toilet paper rolls or paper towels will help you to make a voluminous decor with the image of flowers and leaves. It is enough to flatten the cylinder a little and cut it into equal parts about 2-3 cm wide.

Note!

In order for the flowers to be brighter, and the leaves to stand out in color even before the start of work, the sleeves can be painted in different colors. The individual parts of the sleeve should be placed so that a flower is formed, thus it is possible to compose whole compositions.

Artificial flower paintings

The easiest to make are paintings from artificial flowers or other decorative elements. The main thing here is to beautifully glue the finished parts onto the base.

For this technique, you will need a frame, a solid color material and the actual image itself. Cover the sheet of paper with a cloth, curling the edges over and gluing on the back.

Then, after taking the glass out of the frame, insert the base of your picture into it and glue artificial flowers or other details (shells, dry twigs, etc.) to it. Finally, you can decorate the frame with beads.

If you already have a ready-made canvas, then there are many master classes on how to decorate a painting that is already boring to you and thereby update the interior.

Note!

A flat image of nature or still life can look completely different if you attach several volumetric details to it.

It can be either a paper cut image or natural materials in the form of dry leaves or even butterflies.

Do-it-yourself pictures of paintings

Hand-made decor items are becoming more and more popular every year, since everyone wants to have an exclusive decoration in their home, and not a replicated faceless souvenir from a store. For example, three-dimensional paintings can be a good choice. It is quite simple to make them with your own hands, especially since there are many techniques, and it is not at all necessary to immediately tackle the creation of super-complex masterpieces.

Materials and tools

A three-dimensional painting can be made from a variety of materials. Most often, paper is used to create such decorative crafts, but leather, fabric, plasticine and other improvised means can also be suitable. In this case, sometimes preliminary processing of materials is required in the form of soaking, staining, etc., the choice of which depends on the technique chosen for the production of the picture and its content.

As for the tools, you should definitely have a pencil, scissors, glue (universal), a silicone gun, varnish, threads and needles (for fabric options), etc.

Volumetric paintings from paper

Very simple and original crafts can be obtained using only paper of several contrasting colors and glue.

For example, to make a gorgeous Japanese-style carp, you just need to print its silhouette on a printer, make neat cuts and cut holes in the right places with a clerical knife. Then you should bend the fins and scales and glue the blank on a sheet of colored paper. After that, all that remains is to insert your work into a simple frame and put it on the wall.

Volumetric pictures from paper can be made in other ways.

"Orchid"

Do-it-yourself volumetric paper paintings are often made as a gift. For example, a craft depicting an orchid can be a good option for a presentation. This is a very beautiful three-dimensional painting that will decorate any interior.

You will need:

  • colored paper;
  • wooden frame;
  • corrugated paper;
  • gouache;
  • tassel
  • scissors;
  • thin stick;
  • glue stick.

Manufacturing procedure:

  • a flower with one large, rounded, and two sharp petals is cut out of ordinary paper;
  • bend them with scissors;
  • 3 pairs of petals are cut from corrugated paper;
  • stretch the edge of each element in such a way as to obtain wavy semicircles;
  • take thin petals and twist them twice in the center;
  • grease with glue at the place of twisting and attach to the centers of the trefoils;
  • cut out 3 centers from pink paper on a stencil;
  • dots are applied with gouache of a darker shade of pink;
  • when the paint dries, add volume to the middle using scissors;
  • grease the seamy sides with glue;
  • glue the pink centers to the center of the white paper petals.
  • several oval leaves are cut out of green paper;
  • give the elements volume;
  • 3 strips of 3 x 20 cm are cut out of green paper;
  • moisten them with water and screw them tightly diagonally onto wooden skewers;
  • when the paper dries, take out the sticks and get the stems, which are then given a bend;
  • two buds are cut out of white paper;
  • give them volume by gluing;
  • 2 sheets of blue paper of dark and light tones, as well as one light blue sheet of paper, are glued on top of each other;
  • when they are dry, insert the background into the frame;
  • stick stems, leaves, flowers and buds on it

Such volumetric paintings, made with your own hands, will look beautiful in any interior, and will also be a wonderful gift.

Paper "tunnel"

A three-dimensional painting in this technique, if done carefully, will turn out to be very stylish and beautiful. For the first time, such interior decorations appeared in the 18th century and depicted scenes from the performances of English theaters. To make them, you will need multi-colored paper and glue, as well as 4 identical sheets of cardboard for the picture and 2 for the "accordion". The latter should be the same length as the former and reach 11 cm in width.

Making the craft is pretty simple:

  • cut holes of the same size in sheets of cardboard so that when they overlap, they coincide
  • draw and cut trees, figures of people and mountains from colored paper;
  • on sheets of thick paper, you need to draw 10 lines with a pencil with an indent of 1 cm and bend as follows: towards yourself, from yourself, towards yourself, from yourself, etc.;
  • glue the protrusions so that they alternate with "flat" areas;
  • do the same with the second "accordion";
  • to glue ready-made "layers" with "portholes" on the "accordion" ledges;
  • place the product in the finished volumetric frame.

Volumetric paintings from fabric

A great home decoration can be made from styrofoam and shreds. This technique came to us from Japan and is called kinusaiga.

A three-dimensional picture of tissue scraps can be of any size, however, for a start, it is better to choose a relatively small option.

For manufacturing it follows:

  • transfer the drawing to polystyrene;
  • cut out parts from fabric;
  • make cuts 2 cm deep throughout the pattern on the foam;
  • impose the desired fabric blank on the place where it needs to be used on the base;
  • use a blunt table knife to tuck the edges of the shred into the cuts in the foam;
  • do the same with all other details;
  • edging the edges of the picture with tape, securing it with decorative buttons, or insert it into the frame.

Panel made of bulk materials

Do-it-yourself volumetric paintings can be made from cereals. For example, for such a panel, which is presented below, all the bulk materials that are at hand will be useful.

First, the contours of the future picture are marked on thick cardboard and a specific area is coated with glue. Then they cover it with cereals of the desired type, for example, buckwheat, and press lightly. Glue the grains so that they densely fill the surface of the picture. Do the same with other parts.

Having filled the entire surface of the canvas, cover the product with varnish and insert into a suitable frame.

Spring panel

As already mentioned, do-it-yourself volumetric paintings can be made from almost any material. For example, the "Spring panel" will look very organic in an eco-style interior.

To make it you will need:

  • a piece of plywood;
  • paint in a can;
  • a piece of plain fabric;
  • spray paint of golden color;
  • brush;
  • glue stick;
  • LED garland;
  • several branches of rowan, acacia or any other tree.

Operating procedure:

  • branches are placed under the press for several days so that they straighten;
  • a piece of plywood is covered with a cloth;
  • if necessary, paint it with a sponge or brush;
  • stick the branches to the fabric;
  • lightly spray the picture with aerosol paint from a can;
  • fix the LEDs on the branches with adhesive tape;
  • mask the cable or make a hole and lead it through the fabric and plywood;
  • insert their artwork into a frame.

Now you know how to make a three-dimensional picture from different materials, and you can decorate your interior with an original decor item.

In an age when all design decisions already seem boring and a little boring, making a picture with your own hands on the wall means finding an opportunity to dazzle your guests and make them admire the creation of a talented owner. However, experts insist that even talent is not strictly required, because the main thing is desire. Everyone has the right to a twist in the interior, and the fact that you can do it yourself allows you to save a lot - it's even strange that this technique has not yet become universally popular.

The idea of placing pictures on the walls is attractive enough to play a bad joke with the interested person. The owner of the premises, having heard about a unique opportunity to quickly, inexpensively and creatively decorate his home, may take rash steps - for example, make pictures inaccurately or use the first idea that comes across instead of the one that would turn out to be ideal.

You can't do that. Failure in this business can greatly disappoint an unlucky designer, and it is possible that he is really a talent, he simply does not know about it. The idea of a creative work must be nurtured for a long time - until all the details of its implementation seem obvious, and the idea itself becomes a familiar and integral part of the future implementer.

Remember that masterpieces are created only when the creator clearly understands both the process of work and the final result.

Methods of making paintings

Once upon a time, paintings meant mainly painting, but if we are talking about a design element for a wall, then there will be much more options. The usual paints applied to paper will not be here - everyone can guess to draw a picture and insert it into a frame. We will try to analyze only those solutions that look fresh, and at the same time they can be made by hand.

Finished fabric paintings

This method does not imply any kind of fine art at all, except, perhaps, correct compilation. The picture does not have to contain a clear plot and meaning - you can make a gorgeous abstraction by simply hanging three pieces of fabric of the same shape and size, which are in proper harmony with each other, stretched on a base next to each other.

If the fabric already contains some images, then this can be used additionally to create a certain meaningful composition. Making these with your own hands is not difficult at all, here it will be harder to choose a combination in such a way that it leaves a lasting pleasant impression. You can move away from the triptych proposed above - individual fragments of fabric can have irregular shapes, intertwine or combine in any other way.

The main feature in creating paintings from fabric is the ability to choose the right combination, in accordance with the rules for combining colors

Embroidery

This method is fully consistent with the wisdom that everything new is just a well-forgotten old. In the old days, women decorated their homes in this way, but today they have largely abandoned this tradition - and in vain: with proper execution, embroidery looks very attractive. Of course, only a real needlewoman can do such work with her own hands, but literally any plot can be depicted. If the author also dreams of getting married, then her work, hanging on the wall in a frame, will tell a lot to potential candidates for husbands who are invited to visit.

Paintings in 3D

Who even thought the wall should be flat? We propose to make a real three-dimensional image out of it with our own hands, the features of which are conveyed not only by paints, but also by bulges and depressions!

Such work will turn out to be more difficult, more time and effort will be spent on its implementation, but the result will definitely turn out to be unusual! And you need to do the following:

  1. On the wall, which you plan to decorate in an original way, draw the outlines of the proposed drawing with thin pencil lines. It is advisable to immediately evaluate the sketch from different angles and from different distances, show it to several people for an objective assessment and immediately correct it if there is constructive criticism.
  2. In an oilcloth bag, collect a sufficient amount of putty and tie the container, making a small hole in it. Using an improvised putty gun, trace the contours of the drawing so that the drawn lines become convex, thanks to the added layer.
  3. Wait for the material to dry and harden, and then use a small knife to carefully trim the volumetric outline. If the drawing is complex enough, both contours and internal details can be distinguished with irregularities.
  4. Since the resulting surface will not only be convex, but also very rough, use sandpaper to achieve a smooth finish. Don't go for the coarse grained option - it will only hurt your creative output. It is best to give preference to the finest grains used for final sanding.
  5. Mix gouache with liquid PVA glue - so it will be much more resistant and durable. Use a brush to color the image as you intended at the planning stage.
  6. To complete the picture, its borders can be designated with special baguettes, which in this case will play the role of a frame.

Colored paper

Such a decision threatens to be short-lived, but it is easy to do it yourself and then periodically renew it by introducing additional elements. The idea is extremely simple - silhouettes are cut out of colored paper according to a template, for example, butterflies, which are freely glued to the wall using ordinary PVA, or simply pinned. You can add intricate designs to the cut out figures. Ideally, the figures should be different in shape and size, and maybe in color. It is best to combine opposite shades, such as black and white or red and blue.

For the wall near the stairs, figurines that imitate a kitten, captured in various playful poses on different steps, are perfect.

Twine as a tool in the artist's hands

Amazingly, you can even make beautiful interior decorations from an ordinary rope! Only a gifted person can make such a picture with his own hands - here you need an artistic vision and great patience in order to fix the rope in an upright position in the required form. You can set the shape in any way - both with hot glue and hidden thread fasteners. The resulting product is attached to the wall either with the same glue or with hidden pins.

Twine paintings look unusual and stylish, so this option for wall decor definitely deserves attention.

Volumetric paintings with applique elements

You can make a picture with your own hands that will combine both painting and applicative art. This requires:

The value of this product will be all the higher because, despite the availability and prevalence of all the materials used, not so many people can create such a masterpiece, simple in its genius, with their own hands.

Option for the laziest

After all, there is a way to create a wall painting that does not require any talent, or any skill, or even effort at all. All you need is to find the desired image on the Internet in good resolution and print it on a printer. Next, the resulting printout is inserted into a frame purchased in advance in the store and voila - cheap and cheerful!

The main condition for creating a masterpiece is inspiration. It is better not to copy someone's work, but to try to feel the mood of your own home, to imagine what is missing in the interior, which could emphasize its dignity. It is better to put any thoughts and sketches in a separate notebook - they can come in handy when creating a picture. Think about where the future work will hang - in the living room, kitchen, bedroom.

DIY paintings: paint with paints

Inspiration can be drawn from nature if there are scenic spots near the house. Stencils

With spray paint, it is easy to apply the image through a stencil. It is better to take plywood or very thick cardboard as a basis for the picture. The paint for the background should be different in color and effect from the color of the picture. For example, colored patterns on a gold or silver field look original. You can make several pictures of the same size and arrange them into a single work of the type of modular paintings, which will decorate the wall in the living room.

Advice! Use interestingly shaped dried leaves and herbs instead of paper stencils.

All that remains is to cut it into segments and fix them on a suitable base. The paper can simply be carefully glued onto a plywood or fiberboard base, and the canvas can be stretched over a wooden frame and secured on the back with a stapler.

Advice! When self-painting a picture for an interior, the image is applied over the already prepared modular segments. The canvas can be replaced with any suitable fabric by painting it with batik paints. On paper blanks, painting is best done with acrylic or waterproof markers.

Photo printing

The technical side of the issue is taken over by a photo workshop, which can print a suitable image on almost any basis: canvas, paper, ceramics, etc. These can be ordinary posters depicting interesting places, people, ornaments.

Advice! A poster is not just a picture, it should carry a certain idea, correspond to the interior, the theme of the room and the character of the owners of the house.

For the loft style, paintings using photo printing are popular

Black and white photos in white frames, as an alternative to paintings

A small bedroom in gray tones will be decorated with a black and white painting in a black frame

If the poster is large, you can divide the image into several segments and, when combined into a single canvas, beat the joints, making it look like a modular picture.

If there is a child in the house, then you can scan his drawings and, choosing the appropriate color and shape, make a collage of them. A photo of the artist himself can complement such a poster. All that remains is to print the poster and place it in a frame that matches the color and style of the nursery's interior.

A collage of old and new family photos can be hung as a picture in the bedroom or living room, and posters with the image of the corresponding paraphernalia and fruits are suitable for the kitchen. Finally, it is worth noting that it is recommended to choose posters and panels for the kitchen in rich and bright colors, however, no one forbids you to go against the rules and create a stylish monochrome kitchen design.

In Art Nouveau interiors, paintings using photo printing are very popular.

Small black and white photographs are also suitable for a cozy, bright bedroom.

In sewing stores, you can pick up parts of various shapes, colors and materials and lay them out, like a mosaic, according to a previously prepared scheme. These button-like pieces will fit perfectly into the kitchen, however, they can also be used for the living room and bedroom.
