FEATURE LITERATURE ABOUT WILD ANIMALS

How a hare lives in winter

Winter. Freezing. All the animals hid from the fierce cold. And the hare has neither a burrow nor a nest. Today he will sleep under a bush, tomorrow he will lie down in a ravine; where he digs a hole in the snow - there he has a house. But the hare's fur coat is warm, fluffy and white as snow. It's good for him in such a fur coat - it's warm and it's not difficult to hide from enemies: he cuddled in the snow - just try to see it!
During the day, the hare sleeps, and when night falls, it goes out for a walk and feed.
While there is not much snow in the field, he will break it open with his paws, you look - he will find grass. And as the blizzards sweep deep snowdrifts, then the hare will not dig out the snow. But in the forest, he climbs onto a high snowdrift, from bushes, from trees he gnaws young twigs or devours bark - that’s well fed. And sometimes he will come to visit the village. He will come late in the evening, when the village is quiet, everyone is already asleep, will run up to the haystack and start pulling the hay. He pulls on, gorges, and then runs back into the forest. This is how the hare lives all winter.

About the hare

For the winter, the forest hare turns white. A winter white fur coat is thicker and warmer than a brown summer one. It is good for such a hare to hide from enemies. Go see a white hare on the white snow!
The white hare turns white not immediately, but gradually. At first, it will brighten a little. Then the hind legs will turn white. you will look from afar - it looks like white panties are on the hare. Hunters say about such hares: a hare in pants.
The hare does not wear white pants for long: only a week and a half. the whole will turn white, so there are no pants.

How a squirrel hibernates

Squirrels are not afraid of frost or wind in winter. As the blizzard begins, bad weather - the squirrel hurries to its nest as soon as possible.
A squirrel's nest, like a bird's, is arranged: from branches, from twigs. Yes, how cleverly done - like a big ball, round, and a loophole on the side.
Inside the nest is lined with dry soft bedding: it is cozy and warm. The squirrel will climb into the nest, and so that the cold wind does not blow out, it will also close the loophole with bedding. Then it will curl up into a ball, cover it with a fluffy tail and sleep.
And outside, the icy wind howls and carries fine prickly snow. The bad weather will subside, the squirrel will crawl out of the nest, shake itself and jump from tree to tree - to get food for myself: where will he pick a spruce cone, where will he find a dry mushroom, which she herself left to dry on a bitch in the summer. But the squirrel's main food has been stored in the pantry since the fall - in the hollow of an old tree. There she has acorns and nuts - there will be enough supplies for the whole winter.

Ivan Sokolov-Mikitov

Bear family

The bear brought her little cubs to the sunlit glade.

The fast marten was frightened by the bears.

She stopped, the cautious bear listens: is everything calm in the forest?

Little bears huddle up to their mother. They are afraid in a huge forest. Only recently we got out of a warm den.

Bear cubs listen, how the wind rustles in high forest peaks, how invisible birds whistle and sing, and on a dry pine crown a woodpecker taps a drum roll.

In late winter, in a den, these furry bear cubs were born to a she-bear. They were warm in a closed den; sweetly smacking, they sucked mother's milk. Climbing under the belly of the bear, we slept soundly.

The bear brought her cubs into the forest. They will now get used to their native forest, play and tumble over soft bumps, climb trees.

It's hard to see bears.

A bear hears and smells far away. You will not see or hear how sensitive animals will leave, quietly hide in the dark forest.

Elk

I. Sokolov-Mikitov

Of all the animals that live in our Russian forests, the largest and most powerful animal is the elk. There is something antediluvian, ancient in the appearance of this large beast. Who knows - perhaps moose roamed the forests back in those distant times, when long-extinct mammoths lived on the earth. It is difficult to see a moose standing motionless in the forest - this is how the color of its brown wool merges with the color of the tree trunks surrounding it.

In pre-revolutionary times, elks in our country were almost completely destroyed. Only in very few, the most remote places, these rare animals survived. During the Soviet era, elk hunting was strictly prohibited. Over the decades of the ban, moose have bred almost everywhere. Now they fearlessly approach crowded villages and noisy big cities.

Quite recently, in the center of Leningrad, on Kamenny Island, the children going to school saw two elks wandering under the trees in the morning. Apparently, these moose wandered into the city at night quiet time, got lost on the city streets.

Moose feel more secure near cities and villages than in remote places where hunters-poachers pursue them. They are not afraid to cross wide asphalt roads, along which trucks and cars move in a continuous stream. They often stop at the very road, and people passing in cars can freely observe them.

Elk is a very strong, watchful and intelligent animal. The caught moose quickly get used to people. In winter, they can be harnessed to sledges, as domestic deer are harnessed in the north.

I have seen moose in the forest more than once. Hiding behind a shelter, I admired the beauty of strong animals, their light movements, the branchy, spreading horns of the males. Each year, male moose change their heavy, branchy antlers. Discarding old horns, they rub against the trunks and branches of trees. In the forest, people often find discarded elk antlers. Every year, an extra tine is added to the antlers of the male elk, and the age of the moose can be determined by the number of tines.

Elks love water, they often swim across wide rivers. Elk crossing the river can be caught up by a light boat. Above the water, you can see their hump-nosed heads, wide branched horns. Wandering with a gun and a dog through a clearing near the Kama River, one day I saw an elk “taking a bath” in a small open swamp. Apparently, the elk escaped from the evil gadflies and horseflies who besieged it. I came close to a moose standing in the swamp water, but my cop dog that jumped out of the bushes frightened him. The elk came out of the swamp and slowly disappeared into the dense forest.

The most amazing thing is that heavy moose can cross the most swampy bogs, on which a person cannot walk. For me, this serves as proof that moose lived in those ancient times, when the glaciers that covered the earth retreated, leaving behind them vast swamps.

G. Skrebitsky

In the green more often

In summer, the sun is shining brighter and brighter, its rays are getting hotter.
In the forest, on the slopes of ravines, bird cherry, mountain ash, viburnum have long faded. Bushes and trees were covered with dense green foliage.
Bird voices are not so much ringing as they once were in a transparent spring forest.
Yes, feathered singers are no longer up to songs. The chicks have grown up, flew out of the nests, but they still need to be fed, and most importantly, make sure that they do not fall into the clutches of the predator. Winged parents have more trouble. Instead of songs here and there, one can hear alarming, warning exclamations of adult birds: "Beware, do not yawn, be careful!" And the animals also have grown up cubs for a long time.
Behind a huge, long-legged moose cow wanders a red, ankle-necked calf. The baby is not one step behind the mother.
On the slope of a ravine in a fox hole, foxes are growing up. In the morning and evening dawn, young animals play carelessly near the hole.
Mother-fox, lying somewhere to the side, under a bush, vigilantly watches the children. And sometimes it will bring the kids not dead, but live prey - a hare or a mouse. Fox cubs catch the animal they brought, play with it, learn the difficult art of getting their own food.
From foxes, wolves and many other animals, parents teach children how to get food, how to escape from enemies. But the rabbits have no one to learn from: the mother hare from the very day of her birth almost does not care about her children at all - she will feed them milk and run away from the rabbits for two, three days, and sometimes she will not return to them at all. Babies will be fed by other rabbits. After all, hares have been so customary since olden times - what hare runs near the babies, she will definitely stop and let them suck on milk. She doesn't care, her own or someone else's, it would only be a hare.
Is the hare a bad mother or a good one?
Yes, neither one nor the other. So it is in nature that hares are born sighted, in a warm fur coat and from the very first days they can run and hide from enemies. They don't really need maternal care. But other animals have a lot of fuss with babies.
And our troubled squirrel also worked a lot, until finally the squirrels grew up completely, got stronger and scattered through the forest from their native nest.
The squirrel was left alone again. Now she lived more freely.
For days she jumped on trees, eating juicy young shoots. Then she went down to the ground and also started looking for food. There was plenty of food everywhere. The strawberries have already ripened, followed by raspberries, blueberries, lingonberries ... Mushrooms have appeared - boletus, boletus, boletus, boletus ...
The squirrel willingly ate berries and mushrooms. But, besides, she was not at all averse to eating a bug or a fat maggot. It is even better if she managed to find a nest of some bird that was late with the withdrawal of the babies.
If there were eggs or small chicks in the nest, a peaceful animal - a squirrel - immediately turned into a small predator: it drank eggs or ate chicks.
In the middle of summer, cubs were born to the squirrel for the second time. And the second babies were also fed and raised by the caring mother. So, in constant anxieties and worries about the growing children, a warm summer, abundant in fodder, imperceptibly rushed by.

SECRETS OF THE FOREST

DM Zuev.

On a moonlit night in a birch forest it is as bright as day. The light of the moon is reflected by the snowdrifts and makes the forest spacious, like a huge hall with white columns. The watchful silence of a clear winter night is full of secrets.

What is it? A gap darkens in the snow. A streak of light, as if with a silver belt, enveloped someone's furry burnous. Under a snowdrift, in a den, a bear lies and sleeps in the stillness of the night. He is not worried about the cold ray of the moon, which has made its way into the depths of the den.

Yes, yes, a bear in the suburbs. He winters in the reserved forests of Lukhovitsy. This club-footed "vegetarian" is good-natured.

In September and October, the bear ate on gilded acorns. I also did not disdain lingonberries and cranberries. And now it is quietly dozing. He luxuriates sweetly, knows that the snow has reliably covered the tracks. This is what the beast needs. Most of all I am glad of the trampler in the forest silence: no one bothers him.

The bear sleeps in its den, but listens sensitively to the restless life of the winter forest. The snowflakes rustle barely audibly against the bark of old aspens, slide over the dried leaves of an oak tree that have survived here and there, cling to the needles. The woodpecker knocks. All this is not a hindrance to an animal sensitive sleep.

But then there was complete silence. And suddenly the dry forest cracked loudly. The bear immediately understood: this is not frost. So the snow is crunching. Someone wanders through the bushes and drifts. The bear ruffled, stood up, pricked up his ears, sparkled his eyes. Who is this kolobrod? ..

Smoky gray beasts walk easily in deep snow. Elk! The bear calmly turned away: "Ours." And he lay down, put his head on his front paws, closed his eyes.

And the lanky runners - the moose even stopped from surprise, stared at the den with their bearded muzzles. They sensed the beast, they snore watchfully and menacingly. Stands in the snow like an old bull rooted to the spot. Here he calmly steps back to the juniper bushes and reaches for the fragrant needles with his white-lipped mouth. The rest of the moose also calmed down. They come up to the bushes and chew on the fragrant needles, snort, snort.

And the white hare galloped up, huddled under the tree and wondered at the elk: why don't they break aspen trees? What happened to them? We decided to eat a thorn ... White-haired waits patiently. Here the aspen interfered with the elk, he shook his head - a branch broke off with a crash, bounced off, stuck into the snow. The bunny perked up, gracefully stood on its hind legs, raised its high ears, the prune eyes stared ahead. An appetizing aspen branch beckons him.

The moon lit up the winter idyll by the den. A huge frozen elk stands among the glitter of the snow, chewing on needles and blowing puffs of steam. And the hare is not afraid of the beast, happily gnaws at the fragments of a branch nearby - a gift from an elk. Hares always pick up young aspen shoots for moose. The bitterness of an aspen is sweeter than sugar.

At other times, of course, the bear would have barked at the moose and got into a fight. But now it’s not up to that ... It’s very sweetly asleep. Well, if the weather starts to make noise, the weather clears up, the snow falls in flakes, the wind will howl in the peaks ... The lullaby of the snowstorm lulls the bear even more. Loves to listen to the forest boyar symphony of a blizzard in the forest.

... March is the last month of bear rest.

Deep snow in the shady silence of the forest. According to hunting signs, bears rise from their dens on the "winter-day", April 7th.

NIGHT HUNT

DM Zuev.

An even track of round paws broke off in a snow hole. A fan-shaped wing is seen at the fossa. On the sides there are the same scattered snow pits and traces of the beast's jumps. The imagination of the tracker - the hunting guard of the land - completed a vivid picture of the night incident.

... A dark muzzle stuck out at the edge of the sublunary forest: sly little eyes shine, the shirt front is white, the ears are pricked up.

Fox! She has no time. She has her own mind. It smells like a feather ...

In the shadows, the beast's torso merged with a bronze juniper bush. The fox is wary, fingering with its paws, looking for support. Now she made a throw and runs through the clearing, and the shadows of the clouds race with her. Fox eyes squint in phosphoric light.

A light cloud floats to the moon. A foggy haze chases the fox through the snow. In the influx of shadow, sparkles of snowflakes fade. A cloud rushes by - and the snow changes magically.

Radiant diamonds scatter again. The fox runs, leaving an even trail behind it. Only one fox can pull such a straight string of pits. Sly eyes noticed the unevenness of the snow. A fox sneaks up like a cat to the holes in the middle of the meadow. So she flapped her tail and suddenly jumped high.

Snow dust flew up and washed over the fox. And a snowdrift exploded behind a mine. Something fluttered in the hole. Noisily flapping its wings, the black grouse flew up. During takeoff, he even lifted the fox's tail with his black wing.

Sly Patrikeevna wanted to catch a sleepy bird in a snowy shelter by surprise, but it did not work out. I missed. Kosach is also on his mind. He punched the crust of the infusion from behind and flew out. Nearby, a gray grouse rose anxiously. She nevertheless protested the commotion of the night like a chicken, cackled angrily: "Everyone on the wing!"

The rooster dismissed the tail feathers, waved the fox from above with a black fan: "Ko-ko-ko ... goodbye ..."

The chanterelle licked itself, did not get the chicken in the mouth. It wags its tail like a cat, sees off the birds with an avid glance. "The eye sees, but the tooth doesn’t."

The clear face of the month laughs merrily, looks at the puzzled fox. And then, as if on a signal, teeters from the sleeping holes soar up all around. The whole flock is disturbed. Away from sin. The hour is uneven, you will get the fox for supper.

The fox darted about, galloped skipping, looking at the birds, and all to no avail. I was late.

The fox sniffs the holes. The bird beds are empty. Suddenly she raised her head and pricked up her ears. A mouse squeaked somewhere. The fox darted to mouse - it will be more turned.

The trembling of the birds died down, the forest fell silent.

WOLVES

DM Zuev.

The days of late autumn are dull and short. The long nights are impenetrably dark. The low-hanging sky frowns. "November breathed with the autumn cold ..." Only late autumn and winter are not unusual for the gray wolf. It is free for the beast to walk through deserted fields. In November, wolves do not live in a large forest, they flee in packs from thickets into grassy swamps, into small forests, into near-field ravines and closer to the village.

The wolf is cunning and bloodthirsty. Suddenly, unexpectedly, he will descend into the village at night - beware of the cattle in the poorly fenced yard! Geese are especially affected by wolves. They give themselves away with their heads. They are very sensitive to every rustle. Earlier, dogs will hear the crunch of icy puddles under a wolf's paw. They will raise the alarm at once and show you where to get them.

... In the hollow, dogs bark fervently. The village is under the mountain. Behind the threshing floor is a deep ravine. An old, leafless rowan tree stands alone on the edge. Behind the mountain ash - "horse graveyard". Wherever the hungry beast runs, it will always turn to visit the ravine.

… A coal-black raven is circling high above the bare mountain ash. In the hazy sky, a prophetic bird hovers for a long time, waking up the silence of a foggy field with an insistent croak. A short, but abrupt guttural scream is sounding. Crows, jackdaws, magpies feast on bones and announce to the whole district: the tavern is open! There is something to feast on. And wolves hear, understand the language of birds. But it's too early, you can't start off before dark. The wolves are waiting for the first star, lying on a day in a mossy swamp.

The short November day is waning rapidly. It gets dark. A smoky veil of twilight is spreading, the surroundings are clouded. Behind the outskirts, the bird's feast dies down.

In the evening, crows and jackdaws pull into the village, magpies - into the forest. And in the morning, on the contrary: a crow - into the forest, a magpie - into the village. This is a sure reference point for a lost hunter. By the flight of birds, as by a compass, you will leave the forest.

The distance darkens, the wind whistles, the bare tops of the forest sway. The last forty hastily fluttered out of the ravine and sat down on a spruce. The dogs rushed to the threshing floor. And the chatterbox spins and chirps incessantly ... And not without reason! She sees who the dogs are afraid of.

... A dark dot appeared in the distance in the snowy field. Here it becomes more and more, and the figure of a running dog grows. Yes, it's a wolf! And suddenly there are already two, three, four. As a flock grows out of the ground. A family of buffy-rusty gray wolves trotting along the road in single file.

An old wolf is leading the pack carefully. Profitable and over a year old - peyarka follow her heels. A seasoned wolf closes the procession.

The shrieking scream alerted the she-wolf. She stopped. The entire column froze in an instant. Wolves do not like birds' noise. The young people perked up their ears. And the hardened wolf raised his left ear and immediately lowered it: a magpie-chatterbox! The she-wolf moved her nose through the air. The village is close, It smells of smoke, sheep, calves. The magpie, twirling its tail, looked around and with a chirp took off from the spruce. Now it is smaller, smaller - and disappeared over the forest like a black fly.

The wolves set off at the same shallow trot towards the mountain ash.

It's already darkened. Lights flashed in the village, buckets rattled at wells, gates slammed.

The flock descended into the ravine. There was a scuffle. The predators are pulling the bones away.

And a dog barking rose through the village. How annoying the wolves are at this roll call of the watchful guards! The wolf is not afraid of dogs, but does not tolerate, does not tolerate barking.

Time goes by night. Sounds are muffled. The lights go out. The voices fall silent. The village was quiet.

The old wolf easily and smoothly jumped out of the pit and ran to the threshing floor. In one fell swoop he jumped over the fence and immediately went to a trot. Here is a steed!

The wolf quickly ran up the hill and stood proudly. The wild ancestor of dogs is terrible!

The barking grows under the mountain. How many dogs are there in the village? Everyone scares the wolf, but at least he can! ..

The clouds thinned and the moon shone on the beast. Frost was silvery on the fur. And what a grace! He is tall, strong, with a powerful forehead. A black belt is stretched along the ridge. The tail is down. Tousled hair on a wide, stiff neck. A blue shadow swept across the ice. The moon was covered by a cloud, and immediately darkened. Only evil lights sparkle. The wolf looks around sharply, listens to the voices of the dogs, sniffs the air.

Far beyond the copse, the bass barking of a burly watchdog is heard. The wolf eagerly looks at the road - if a stupid mongrel will run close, then she will roll without a sound right into the wolf's mouth. It happened in the memory of the old predator. So the wolf brought the wolf cubs to the village. Young people, sensing housing, move back, buried behind the old, and set their tails between their legs. Frightened out of habit.

The family started off downhill.

This time the wolves walked in the village. But this was their last night of robbery. A huntsman with a team of hunters has already arrived from the Society. In the sleigh - flags for the salary.

... There will be a round-up tomorrow.

Elk

I. Sokolov-Mikitov

Evening came in the forest. The sun set behind the tops of the trees.

A moose cow grazes on the edge of the swamp with her long-legged clumsy calf. They ate their fill of succulent grass. The old moose cow is dozing, motionless. Annoying mosquitoes ringing over the swamp. Moose fight off mosquitoes by shaking their long ears. To escape from mosquitoes, sometimes moose climb into the water. Moose are afraid of neither water, nor large viscous swamps, nor a deep, impassable thicket.

Elks roam the forest everywhere: they cross swamps, wide rivers, deep forest lakes. Where people do not offend moose, they trustingly leave the forest. People often see moose on the outskirts of villages and cities. It happens that they wander into gardens and suburban parks.

Fox and hedgehog

N. Sladkov

You all, Hedgehog, are good and handsome, but thorns do not suit you!

And what, Lisa, I'm ugly with thorns, or what?

Yes, not that ugly ...

Maybe I'm clumsy with thorns?

It's not that clumsy ...

So what am I like with thorns?

Yes, some kind of you, brother, inedible with them ...

Squirrel

G. Skrebitsky

Have you ever seen mushrooms grow not on the ground, but high on a tree, on thin twigs? Yes, not any toadstools, but real boletus, boletus, boletus ... I'll have to climb a tree and see how they settled there.

It turns out that the mushrooms did not grow on the tree at all, but were cleverly tucked into the forks between the knots. Who hung them up here to dry in the sun?

Look, some animal jumped up to the pine tree and ran up the trunk like an arrow like a ladder. This means that the animal has sharp claws if it clings so tightly to the bark. Climbed onto a branch and sat down. Now you can see it well. The animal is small, with the growth of a kitten, all yellow, its ears are upright, with tassels, and the tail is large, fluffy, no less than the owner himself. Instead of a parachute, such a tail for the animal serves when jumping from tree to tree. This animal jumps very dexterously. It is called squirrel.

A squirrel holds a mushroom in its paws. So this is why she came down to earth! - Gathered mushrooms. Now it is clear where the mushrooms on the branches of the tree came from. This busy squirrel prepares supplies for the winter. And not only mushrooms. Somewhere in the old hollow she probably has a whole pantry. There she carries nuts, acorns, cones. All this will come in handy in the harsh winter.

By winter, the squirrel needs to take care of not only food supplies. We still need to prepare a warm, cozy home. If she is lucky enough to find an old crow or magpie's nest, she will perfectly adapt it for an apartment, but she will not find it - maybe she herself will arrange from twigs, she will make a nest no worse than a bird. Outside, the squirrel nest is ugly: some kind of disorderly bunch of twigs, twigs sticking out in all directions. But inside it is a completely different matter. The squirrel is building its nest very skillfully: it will braid a roof from the same twigs from above so that rain and snow do not fall.

Hare

G. Skrebitsky

Whose footprints are these in the snow? In front, next to it, there are two large prints, and behind them, one after the other, two small ones. These are the tracks of a hare. When he jumps, he brings his hind legs forward; therefore, it turns out that large traces from the hind legs are in front, and small ones from the front ones - behind.

A hare trail is clearly visible in the fresh snow. Well, where is the hare itself? Probably somewhere nearby. He dug himself a hole in the snow and hid in it.

The hare has a lot of enemies: different predatory animals and birds - everyone wants to feast on delicious hare. Where to hide from them? The hare does not have a hole, and it cannot climb a tree.

Quick legs and an invisible coat save the hare from enemies.

In summer, the hare is all gray, it will snuggle somewhere under a bush, like a lump of earth, and you will not find it.

And by winter it will fade, white will become, in the snow and imperceptible. During the day, the hare cannot be walked around in any way: even though he is in an invisible fur coat, nevertheless, a sharp-sighted hawk or a fox would have immediately noticed him, they would have grabbed and ate it. Here the hare has to sleep all day somewhere under a bush, and as the sun sets, it starts to get dark, so the hare wakes up. He sits down, pricks his ears, listens: is everything around him calm, then he will rub his muzzle with his paw, wash, clean himself, and slowly-jump-jump - goes to feed.

In summer, there is nothing to worry about food: delicious juicy grass grows all around - eat as much as you want.

In winter, the hare has a worse situation: after all, he is not a squirrel - he does not make supplies, and everything around is covered with snow. What to feed on? A hare runs in a field, digs up the snow with its paws to the very ground and takes out green bread sprouts ...

And winter pours everything and pours snow. Such snowdrifts will pile up that a hare cannot dig them out, cannot get tasty, juicy greenery. We have to look for other food. A hare in the forest begins to gnaw the bark of trees - to eat up young twigs ...

The hare will live through the winter and finally wait for spring. In the spring, as soon as thawed patches appear, the rabbits will already have children. Two or three, or even four hares at once. The mother-hare cares little about her children: she will let them suck on milk and run away ... But hares have their own order in this regard. They have every mother to all children a nurse. Whatever hare ran past the rabbits, she will definitely feed the babies with her milk.

Hedgehog

G. Skrebitsky

"Angry, prickly, don't touch better." - About whom is it said? Of course, about the hedgehog. The hedgehog is a very funny animal, plump, round. You will stumble upon it in the forest and you will not think that it is a beast. Something is gray in the grass, like a little ant nomad, but if you want to take it in your hands, you touch it, and the nomad will immediately come to life, snort, pant, even jump up and hurt you in the arm.

In a hedgehog, the entire back and sides are covered not with wool, but with sharp thorns. Only the muzzle, legs and abdomen without spines.

As the hedgehog hears the danger, it will now curl up into a ball, hide its muzzle, belly and legs inside, and expose thorns in all directions, like spikes. Try to approach him ...

In the bushes, in the grass, the hedgehog makes a nest in the summer and displays the hedgehog. They will be born small, blind, like rat pups, only rat pups will be born naked, and hedgehogs in thorns. The hedgehog is a caring mother, and in case of danger she bravely protects children ...

The mother hedgehog feeds the hedgehogs with milk. She will settle down on her side, the babies will crawl under her belly and suckle. And when the hedgehogs grow up, they begin to get their own food: to catch various boogers, worms ... This is how hedgehogs live in the forest all summer.

Autumn will come, all the insects, worms, beetles will hide from the cold. The hedgehogs will become hungry. They will arrange for themselves a nest of moss, grass and leaves somewhere in a secluded corner, climb into it and fall asleep soundly for the whole winter until warm spring days.

Fox

According to A. Vostrom

The little chanterelle was born in a deep, cramped hole. The fox was blind, her eyes did not open, she had no teeth, and her hair was short.

The chanterelle had four brothers and sisters, and they are all as pitiful, clumsy and blind as she is. The fox mother fed them with her milk and warmed them with her body. The mother rarely left the burrow; runs off to eat and again comes to the foxes. It was warm and good for the foxes in the hole near their mother.

Two weeks later, the cubs' eyes opened and their teeth began to erupt. But it was dark in the hole - you still couldn't see anything. Once the mother took the fox by the back with her teeth, carried it out of the hole and carefully laid it on the soft grass.

For the first time, the chanterelle saw a free light. At first, the sunlight blinded her unusual eyes so that she could not see anything and closed her eyes, then little by little she opened her eyes. The sun warmed the chanterelle, she was warm and cheerful.

The fox mother began to drive the cubs out of the burrow every day. Sits, ears pricked, looks at the foxes, and they tumble in the grass, wrestle, roll on the ground, run after each other. The mother will run away for a while and bring them food: a mouse, or a grasshopper, or a frog drags, or even a hare will catch. Hungry foxes will rush, they will eat everything in a moment. And as soon as the mother hears some rustle, she will start up, rush to the children, drive them home.

The cubs grew up a little, and the mother began to teach them how to catch prey. He will bring a live mouse and let it between the foxes, and they catch him. The mother sits and strictly monitors the children: as soon as he gags or misses the mouse, she grabs the fox with her teeth. The fox will screech, but there is nothing to do, it is his own fault: do not yawn.

Then the fox will lead the children to the hillock and show how to catch butterflies and bugs. All foxes catch everything that moves, boldly rush to prey, are not afraid of anything. And their mother teaches them how to be careful, how to listen to whether a dog or some other large animal is running.

By the fall, the cubs grew up, began to run alone, without their mother.

Fox

A. Klykov

In our country, foxes live in the steppes, forests, tundra and even in the desert. The body of the fox is very mobile: it can easily bend, crumple and stretch while running. Her legs are flexible and thin. The soles are hard and the nails are blunt, short. The tail works like a steering wheel when cornering.

The reddish-red fluffy fur is highly prized. In black foxes, a silvery bloom is especially noticeable on the back and on the sides.

By winter, the fox's paws are completely overgrown with thick wool, only the tips of the toes stick out. In winter, the fox is as if in felt boots, and its legs do not chill even in severe frosts.

The fox barks or screeches. The fox has excellent hearing. For many meters, she hears voles, rodents similar to mice, fumbling and squeaking under the snow cover.

In March, as soon as the snow begins to settle in the fields and the southern slopes of mountains and ravines are exposed, the fox diligently searches for a hole for its future offspring. Accidentally noticing a groundhog's burrow, she immediately gets rid of the landlord and settles there herself.

When the April sun warms the earth and young greenery appears, the fox will give birth to five or eight blind, but strong foxes. The tips of their tails are completely white. They begin to run out when they become sighted and become overgrown with fur.

The mother fox watches closely to see if anyone is threatening her cubs. At the slightest danger, her short barking makes the cubs immediately hide in the hole. The fox sees well day and night. It perfectly detects where the sound is coming from.

The fox-father, together with the fox, protects and teaches the young, brings them half-dead rabbits, with which the foxes deal with themselves, small rodents, chicks, birds. Fox cubs grow quickly. They move farther and farther from their burrow, trying to catch everyone who crawls on the ground, grabbing frogs, insects, animals, but instantly hiding at the barking of their parents. By autumn, the cubs are about the size of their mother. They can already get their own food - they catch young black grouse, partridges, hunt mice and voles at night. By the end of autumn, the cubs leave their native den: they begin a completely independent life.

Wolves

Dm. Zuev

The days of late autumn are dull and short. The long nights are impenetrably dark. The low-hanging sky is frowning ...

Only late autumn and winter are not unusual for the gray wolf. It is free for the beast to walk through deserted fields. In November, wolves do not live in a large forest, they flee in packs from thickets into grassy swamps, into small forests, into near-field ravines and closer to the village.

The wolf's legs are fed. Sometimes animals will wave fifty kilometers in a night. And all along the roads, and all in single file, track after track, one after another. Unafraid wolves will never go scattered.

The wolf is cunning and bloodthirsty. Suddenly, unexpectedly, he will come to the village at night - beware of the cattle in the poorly fenced yard! Geese are especially affected by wolves. They give themselves away with their heads. They are very sensitive to every rustle. Earlier, dogs will hear the crunch of icy puddles under a wolf's paw. They will raise the alarm at once and show you where to get them ...

Profitable and over a year old - peyarkki - follow her heels.

The village is close. It smells of smoke, sheep, calves ...

The wolves set off at the same shallow trot towards the mountain ash ...

Hare

I. Sokolov-Mikitov

It was quiet in the forest, the sun was up. I lit a pipe and, lounging by the stump, putting my gun on my knees, began to listen to the sounds.

While smoking a pipe, whistling with a hazel grouse flying up, I suddenly saw a white hare, quietly hobbling right at me, behind the tree trunks. The tired hare was returning to its bed after its merry nocturnal adventures. In short leaps, he hobbled quietly over the mossy reddish bumps. On his wet thighs, scraps of faded winter flaps dangled funny.

I sat without moving, without moving a finger, merging with a tall green stump. When the hare ran close, almost to the knees, I stirred a little and said quietly:

Yeah, got caught, oblique!

My God, what happened to the hare, how he caught himself, how his little ponytail flashed between the bumps! Laughing out loud, I shouted after the hare:

Run away, scythe, quickly! ..

I seem to see a forest even now, a quiet morning, I hear the whistling of a hazel grouse, I clearly see a hare-hare, its wet portages. Run away, scythe brother, to good health!

Books about nature and animals
Adults and kids love to read.
Sometimes we are sad together
Sometimes we laugh heartily.

Books about nature and animals are always loved by children. Animals by their nature are close to children: they are sweet, spontaneous, they are a reflection of nature itself. That is why these books resonate in the hearts of little readers. Books about animals teach children kindness, care, form an idea of the world, its integrity and at the same time fragility. No matter how trite it sounds, they teach to protect nature, love and respect it.

Stories about nature and animals for children (for example, such famous authors as V. Bianki, M. Prishvin) are very interesting, they are read in one breath. Books about birds, fish and insects will expand children's understanding of the world around them.

From the books presented in this list, the child will learn a lot about the animal world, will be able to find the answer to his questions on various topics, be it wild, domestic or marine animals, forest animals, animals of the desert or taiga, animals of Australia or Africa.

Igor Akimushkin himself called his books "reference". To tell the truth, the exact definition of such a genre has not yet been invented. What can you call a thick book, where scientific information is mixed with anecdotes, stories of sensational discoveries and fascinating stories. An entertaining encyclopedia? A reading reference? However, is all this so important if Akimushkin's “reference” books make us wonder, worry, laugh and be upset when we read about four-legged, winged and any other animals that inhabit and inhabit our planet!

Of course, the encyclopedia "I Know the World" is not only about animals. They were "given" only a few volumes, the most curious of which is "Mysterious Animals". This is about cryptozoology. The word "crypto" in translation from Greek means "riddle". Cryptozoologists believe that Tianitolkai and unicorns live on earth, and that zoological objects - "Cryptozoes" are hidden behind the heroes of many legends. And they invite you to the "land of unseen beasts." Some of them were actually discovered by scientists, such as the cross-finned coelacanth fish.

The Gray Owl tribe has hunted beavers from century to century. The hero of this book himself has steadfastly followed the ancient tradition. But then one day he suddenly felt that he could no longer kill a single beaver. And ... he became the caretaker of the state beaver reserve. Perhaps this book is not at all a literary masterpiece, but the fate of its hero is absolutely unique.

This story was told by the author in the story “Katug - the child of the snows”. The book contains previously unpublished in Russian or almost forgotten stories about the behavior of animals.

Chaplin, V. Zoo pets / V. Chaplin. - M .: NTR "Riperoks", 1997. - 301 p .: ill.

Vera Chaplina devoted her entire life to the Moscow Zoo. She could stay overnight at work if any of the pets was unwell, she could run around the city in search of an escaped monkey, she could bring a newborn lion cub to her communal apartment, which must be fed by the hour. In a word, Vera Chaplin was an obsessed person and she knew how to convey this obsession to readers. Moreover, everyone - from preschool age and older. The story of the lion cub Kinuli is perhaps one of the most powerful experiences of my childhood. In 1935, a newborn lioness appeared in the apartment of an employee of the Moscow Zoo, who was given the speaking name Kinuli.

Vera Chaplina, who has worked for a long time as the head of the young stock of the Moscow Zoo, wrote many kind and funny stories about her pupils: about a fox and a cat, about the friendship of a bear with a dog, about a wolverine, about a polar bear:

"They sent me for Fomka. When I arrived, Fomka was asleep. He was lying on the floor, in the middle of a large office. All four of his paws were spread out in different directions, and he looked like a small rug. Fomka slept so soundly that he did not even wake up, when I took him in my arms. ”He woke up already downstairs, in the street, from the cry of some old woman:“ Fathers!

Fomka barked, pulled free and ... rushed into someone's car standing near the sidewalk. He probably took it for an airplane. He grabbed the door with his paws, pulled, and there the passengers were sitting. They saw - a polar bear climbs up to them, got scared, jumped out into another door and began to shout. Then Fomka was even more frightened. How it will roar! Yes, he pulls the handle! The door could not stand the pressure, it opened. I didn't even have time to gasp, as he was already in the car, in the seat, found himself. He sat down and calmed down immediately. "

Charushin, E. I. Tyupa, Tomka and forty: [stories] / E. I. Charushin; rice. the author. - M.: Books "Seeker", 2007. - 63 p. : ill.

"When Tyupa is very surprised or sees something incomprehensible and interesting, he moves his lips and taps:" Tyup-tyup-tyup-tyup ... "The grass stirred from the wind, the birdie flew by, the butterfly fluttered, - Tyupa crawls, creeps closer and taps: "Tyup-tyup-tyup-tyup ... I'll grab it! I will catch! I'll catch it! I'll play! "That's why Tyupa was nicknamed Tyupa."

Evgeny Charushin is one of the most beloved writers by children. His books delight both children and adults. Probably because Charushin not only described his characters, but also painted. He was an incredibly talented animal painter. Being an artist by training (St. Petersburg Academy of Arts VKHUTEIN), Evgeny Ivanovich only in 1930 began to write stories, inspired by the reviews of Marshak.

It is difficult to say what is more important in Charushin's books - text or pictures. However, no, of course, drawings. These fluffy, warm cute animals that the artist loved and painted from childhood. And for which, in the end, he received the Gold Medal at the International Exhibition of Children's Books in Leipzig. The collection includes touching and very funny stories about the tricks of animals: a puppy, bear cubs, kitten, foxes and magpies.

These and many other books on nature, animals and birds can be found in the school library.

Come! Take your pick! Read on!
