The Zabavushka Folk Toy Museum in Moscow is a non-state museum created thanks to a private initiative of the Tradition Folk Art Lovers Society.

For the first time, a game exhibition entitled "Zabavushka" was held at the All-Russian Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art in Moscow. It aroused great interest among the audience and it was decided to transfer the exhibition on a permanent basis. This is how the Zabavushka Folk Toy Museum appeared.

Museum of folk toys "Zabavushka" was opened in 1998 on 1st Pugachevskaya street, not far from the metro station "Preobrazhenskaya ploshchad".

The museum is aimed mainly at working with children of primary and secondary school age, who can get acquainted with Russian traditional toys in an interactive form.

There is a souvenir shop at the museum where you can buy authentic traditional toys of Russian folk crafts.

Exposition of the museum "Zabavushka"

The museum has a collection of 5000 exhibits from the collection of the Society of Folk Art Lovers "Tradition": these are genuine toys made from natural materials - wooden, clay, straw, birch bark and patchwork handmade toys.

The exhibits are collected from more than 40 different Russian craft centers - the Dymkovo settlement, the Filimonovo village, the cities of Kargopol, Torzhok, Sergiev Posad, Gorodets, the Bogorodsky village and many others.

The museum itself has about 2000 exhibits.

All toys can not only be viewed, but also touched with your own hands, as they stand on open shelves and are available to all visitors of the museum. In addition, young guests are invited to paint the toy themselves: for this, interactive game tours are held here.

The museum offers a choice of three excursions for children: "clay folk toy", "toy crafts of Russia" or "patchwork doll". On all excursions, there is an engaging dialogue between the guide and the children, games for creating a fairy tale involving toys, drawing and, of course, your own creation of toys.

You can visit the museum of the folk toy "Zabavushka" only by pre-appointment in those days and hours when there are requests for excursions.

Tours are held every 1.5 hours: at 9.30 am, 11.00 am, 12.30 pm, 2.00 pm, 3.30 pm and 5.00 pm. The museum is open every day, seven days a week.

The toys of the collection are genuine works of folk art and were created by masters of the largest centers of folk art in Russia - Dymkovo, Filimonovo, Kargopol, Torzhok, Sergiev Posad, Polkhov-Maidan, Gorodets, Bogorodsky and many others.
All toys are displayed on open podiums and are available to children. You can pick up any one, play with it. During the excursion, children create fairy tales and stories with the help of folk toys and immediately tell them to their peers and adults. Children can draw their favorite toy. Every year the collection was replenished with new samples of toys, and today the collection includes more than 5 thousand exhibits. The main audience for the exposition is children aged 5 and over.
