Easy ways to paint. An overview of unusual drawing techniques for children

Every kid is an artist at heart. Almost all preschool children love to draw. Someone likes pencils, someone crayons, someone likes paints. Fine art does not stand still, today there are many interesting and unconventional drawing techniques for children.

Unusual ways of drawing help to create real masterpieces and are suitable even for children who have not yet succeeded in such activities. We will learn all about drawing techniques for children, such as drawing with two hands at the same time, drawing with stencils, scratching and monotyping, painting stones and painting with sand on light tables.

Why drawing is useful for a child

First of all, any drawing, as well as, perfectly develops fine motor skills.

And this contributes to:

  • training the muscles of the fingers and hands;
  • preparing hands for writing;
  • development of the speech apparatus;
  • development of thinking.

Drawing is a creative activity. With the help of the image of familiar objects or objects invented by the baby, it develops:

  • creativity;
  • logics;
  • memory;
  • fantasy.

Did you know? Children whose parents pay enough attention to the fine arts very rarely need the help of a speech therapist, they quickly master simple geometric shapes and remember colors.

In addition to pencils, felt-tip pens and paints, to which the child is accustomed, there are many unusual drawing techniques that can help even an unlucky artist create real works of art.

Stencil drawing

There is nothing complicated in this technique, but the drawings are always beautiful. For drawing, use schemes and stencils, selected specifically for children.

You will need

  • paper;
  • stencils;
  • air markers.

How to prepare

  1. Choose a “safe” place in the apartment - finely dispersed paint, thanks to the child's curiosity, will fly in all directions.
  2. Cover it with oilcloth if necessary.

How to draw

  1. Place a piece of paper on your work surface.
  2. Place the stencil on top.
  3. Take a felt-tip pen of the color you want and blow paint onto the paper.

If your baby is very tiny, you can try painting without a stencil - just let your child learn how to blow paint. You can even decorate objects with such stencils.
Usually, stencils are already included with air markers. We offer you some more simple stencils:

Drawing with two hands from templates

This type of drawing is aimed at developing a child's intelligence. When the baby repeats the movements with both arms, both hemispheres of the brain are involved. It stimulates well the development of thinking and coordination. Drawing with both hands is performed at the same time using templates selected for children according to age and skills.

What is needed

  • two identical pencils or felt-tip pens;
  • symmetrical dot patterns.

Such drawing does not require special preparation. Just explain to the kid and show with a personal example how you will draw:

  1. Place the template in front of you.
  2. Take two pencils or markers in hand.
  3. Place pencil heads in the center of the image.
  4. Draw lines symmetrically connecting the points.
  5. Then, for a little rest, invite the baby to paint the resulting contour.
  6. Start such activities by drawing simple lines, you can use a notebook sheet in a cage:
  7. Then you can move on to simple drawings:
  8. Over time, you can invite the child to draw two identical pictures in parallel:

Scratchboard

A very interesting drawing technique. This is a way to create a drawing by scratching it out on a prepared sheet of paper.

You will need

  • thick sheet of paper;
  • light colored paints (optional);
  • dark gouache;
  • wax or paraffin;
  • a piece of soap;
  • wide brush;
  • skewer;
  • newspaper.

Prepare the canvas

  1. Take paper. You can leave it white, or you can paint it in different colors with a wide brush - this will make the drawing more interesting.
  2. When the paint is dry, rub a sheet of paper with wax or paraffin.
  3. Dip a wide brush in dark paint, brush on a bar of soap, and paint over the entire sheet.
  4. Wait for your canvas to dry properly.

How to draw

  1. Spread the newspaper on the table - this way you can easily clean the workplace.
  2. Take a skewer, scratch the outline of the drawing with light pressure.
  3. Where a brighter outline is needed, scratch off more dark waxed paint.

For drawing, you can trace the contours of an object, or you can draw just like that. With this technique, you can draw anything:

Monotype

This type of painting allows you to create a mirror image.

You will need

  • a sheet of paper folded in half;
  • paints and brushes;
  • some water.

Prepare your work area in the same way as for a regular paint job.

How to draw

  1. Unfold the folded piece of paper.
  2. On one of the halves, quickly draw half a symmetrical pattern. The easiest place to start is with a butterfly.
  3. While the paint has not dried, lightly moisten the other half of the sheet with clean water with a brush.
  4. Close the leaf carefully. It is better to cover the unpainted part with the painted part - this way the paint will not flow.
  5. Iron the folded sheet well with your palms and unfold.
  6. Now you can add details and outlines on both halves of the picture.

Here's what the kids do:

Painting on stones

Painting on stones is a great way for kids to create real pebble souvenirs with your help. It is also convenient - if the drawing did not work out, the stone can always be washed, dried and started over.

What is needed

  • stones (ordinary river pebbles are suitable);
  • a simple pencil with a soft neck;
  • gouache and brushes;
  • furniture varnish or hairspray.

Preparation

  1. Pre-wash the stones, dry.
  2. Prepare your drawing area.
  3. Separately prepare the place where you will open the crafts with varnish. It is better to do this without the baby.

How to draw

  1. Draw the outline of the picture on the pebble. Beforehand, you can prime the surface of the stone with white paint.
  2. Color in the outline carefully. Draw a lot of paint on a brush, so the picture will not flow.
  3. Add decorative elements.
  4. When the drawing is thoroughly dry, you can open it with varnish. If you want to fix the drawing with hairspray, it is better to process the craft in 3-4 layers.

Many souvenirs can be made using this technique:

Sand painting on light tables

This is perhaps the most amazing trend in the visual arts. In this technique, they create real cartoons, show shows, paint real masterpieces, playing in light, shadows and halftones. Previously, it seemed like something inaccessible, but nowadays you can even go to courses for children, where they teach drawing with sand on light tables. There is nothing difficult in this, such drawing can be organized at home.

What is needed

  • light table (you can instruct dad to make it, or you can buy it);
  • fine sand;
  • hands and fantasy;
  • skewer.

How to prepare

  1. River sand works well. But you need to type it first.
  2. When the sand has been obtained, pour it into a bucket and fill it with water.
  3. Drain the water. Repeat the manipulation as many times as necessary to make the water clear. So you will remove debris and dust from the sand, only the fine sand we need will remain.
  4. Let the sand dry by placing it in a wide bowl.

How to draw

  1. Pour sand around the edges of the table.
  2. You can pick up a handful of sand or a pinch and pour in all kinds of lines, creating a drawing:
  3. To create a background, you can spread the sand evenly with your palm over the table surface. Against such a background, you can create any drawings by removing excess sand with your fingers.
  4. With the help of the play of light and shadow, children manage to create all kinds of patterns and drawings, using their imagination and their pens.

Experiment with the thickness of the sand layer, draw with your palm, fingers, draw precise lines with your fingernail or skewer.

With this technique, you can create real masterpieces.

  • If you don’t know one of these techniques, don’t despair. Today there are many circles and art studios in which real professionals will teach a child to create unusual works.
  • Experiment a lot with different drawing techniques - this is a good warm-up for the hands and head. The more techniques the kid masters, the easier it will be for him to find his calling.
  • Support any endeavors of the crumbs. After all, it is not so important for him in what technique to draw, if only his mother was happy.

Drawing techniques for preschool children - video

This video demonstrates the technique of monotyping, creating a landscape over the river.

This video shows a simplified version of preparing a canvas for scratching, demonstrates the very technique of performing the drawing.

This video shows the basic techniques for drawing with sand on a light table for children.

Many mothers want their child to develop harmoniously. Today there are a lot of unusual drawing techniques that develop not only creativity, but also imagination, logic, and coordination. Some of them even adopted kindergartens.

Do not be afraid to suggest new techniques to your child in his favorite pastime, and support your child in their creative quest!

What unusual drawing techniques is your kid familiar with? Where did he first try to draw in this way: at home, in the kindergarten or at a circle? If you know some more interesting drawing techniques - tell us about them in the comments!

All children love to draw. But sometimes the child does not turn out the way he wants. Or maybe he doesn't know enough ways to express himself? Then you can inspire him to experiment with different techniques, among which there will definitely be a favorite. After that, your child will probably want to invent something new.
Dot patterns

First, draw the simplest squiggle. Then, using a cotton swab and paints (gouache or acrylic), we make intricate patterns as the soul lies down. It is better to pre-mix the paints and slightly dilute with water on a palette.

Frottage

This technique is familiar and beloved by many since childhood. We put an object with a slightly protruding relief under a sheet of paper and paint over it with pastel, chalk or not sharpened pencil.

Foam rubber prints

Having dipped a sponge in thick gouache, the child can draw landscapes, bouquets of flowers, lilac branches or animals.

Blotography

One option is to drip paint onto a sheet and tilt it in different directions to get an image. Second: the child dips a brush in paint, then places a blot on a sheet of paper and folds the sheet in half so that the blot is imprinted on the second half of the sheet. Then he unfolds the sheet and tries to understand who or what the drawing looks like.

Other drawings by the method of blotting can be viewed

Hand and foot prints

It's simple: you need to dip your foot or palm in paint and make a print on paper. And then use your imagination and add a couple of details.

More details about the method of drawing with palms can be found

Paint patterns

For such an application, you need to apply a thick layer of paint on paper. Then, with the opposite end of the brush, scratch patterns on the still wet paint - various lines and curls. When dry, cut out the desired shapes and stick on a thick sheet.

Fingerprints

The name speaks for itself. You need to paint your finger with a thin layer and make a print. A couple of strokes with a felt-tip pen - and you're done!

Monotype

On a flat smooth surface (for example, glass), a drawing is applied with paint. Then a sheet of paper is applied, and the print is ready. To make it more blurred, the sheet of paper must first be wetted. When everything is dry, you can add details and outlines if you like.

Scratchboard

The highlight of the work is that the drawing needs to be scratched. A sheet of cardboard is densely shaded with spots of multi-colored oil pastels. Then black gouache must be mixed with soap on a palette and painted over the entire sketch. When the paint is completely dry, scratch the drawing with a toothpick.

Air paints

To prepare the paint, you need to mix a tablespoon of "self-rising" flour, a few drops of food coloring and a tablespoon of salt. Add a little water until the consistency of thick sour cream and mix well. The paint can be placed in a pastry syringe or in a small bag. Tie tight and notch corner. We draw on paper or plain cardboard. We place the finished drawing in the microwave for 10-30 seconds at the maximum setting.

"Marble" paper

Paint over a sheet of paper with yellow acrylic paint. When it is completely dry, paint over again with diluted pink paint and immediately cover with cling film. The film needs to be crumpled and gathered in folds, since it is they who will create the desired pattern for us. We wait until it dries completely and remove the film.

Painting with water

Draw a simple shape in watercolor and fill it with water. Until it's dry, we put colored blots on it so that they mix with each other and form such smooth transitions.

Vegetable and Fruit Prints

The vegetable or fruit must be cut in half. Then you can cut some kind of pattern on it or leave it as it is. We dip in paint and make prints on paper. For prints, you can use an apple, potato, carrot, or celery.

Leaf prints

The principle is the same. We smear the leaves with paint and make prints on paper.

Drawings with salt

If you sprinkle salt on the still wet watercolor painting, it will soak in the paint and, when dry, will create a grainy effect.

Brush instead of a brush

Sometimes it’s worth trying something unexpected as an experiment. For example, a household brush.

Ebru, or drawing on water

We need a container of water. The main requirement is that its area coincides with the area of a sheet of paper. You can use an oven roaster or a large tray. You will also need oil paints, a solvent for them and a brush. The point is to create patterns with paint on water, and then dip a sheet of paper in them. How it's done: www.youtube.com

Cracked wax effect

Draw an image on thin paper with wax pencils. In our case, a flower. The background must be completely shaded. Crumple well and then straighten the sheet with the drawing. We paint over it with dark paint so that it enters all the cracks. We wash the drawing under the tap and dry it. If required, smooth it with an iron.

You can see about drawing on crumpled paper

Cardboard offset prints

We cut the cardboard into small strips, about 1.5 × 3 cm. Dip the edge of a piece of cardboard in paint, press it vertically to the paper and evenly shift it to the side. Wide lines will be obtained from which the drawing is created.

Cam prints

For such a drawing, the child will have to clench his hands into fists. Then dip the back of your fingers in paint and make prints, creating the desired shape. Fish and crabs can be created using fingerprints.

Each child, learning about the world around him, tries to reflect it in his activities: in the game, in stories, in drawing, in modeling, etc.Fine creative activity presents excellent opportunities in this regard. The more varied the conditions conducive to the formation of the creative environment, the brighter the artistic abilities of the child will become manifest.

Drawing with non-traditional techniques opens up a wide scope for children's imagination, gives the child the opportunity to get carried away with creativity, develop imagination, show independence and initiative, and express their individuality.

Unconventional painting techniques are a wonderful way to create small masterpieces. It turns out that you can create a salty picture, and your palm can turn into a blue elephant. A gray blot can become a tree, and carrots and potatoes can surprise with unusual patterns.

For example, with children of younger preschool age, you can use:

Finger painting
- drawing with palms
- thread printing
- print from potatoes or carrots.

With children of middle preschool age, you can try:

Image prints
- plasticine printing
- oil pastels + watercolor
- leaf prints
- hand drawings
- drawing with cotton swabs
- magic strings
- monotype.

And with older preschool children, you can master more complex techniques:

Painting with soap bubbles
- drawing with crumpled paper
- drawing with salt
- blotography
- plasticinography
- scratchboard
- frottage.

Each of these unconventional techniques is a little game for a child. Using these techniques allows children to feel more relaxed, bolder, more direct. These techniques develop the imagination, give complete freedom for self-expression.

DRAWING WITH FUN PRINTS

1. Stamps from plasticine

It is very simple and convenient to make stamps from plasticine. It is enough to give a piece of plasticine the desired shape, decorate with patterns (lines, spots) and paint in the desired color. For coloring, you can use a sponge dampened with paint, or a brush that can be used to apply paint to the surface of the die. It is better to use thick paint.

Materials: 1.Plasticine 2.Pencil 3.Paint 4.Sponge 5.Brush 6.Paper 7.Can for water

2. Dies from thread

To create "striped dies", you can use threads that are tightly wound around an object. The threads are dyed in the required color with a thick layer of paint. Then, using imagination, the "striped pattern" is applied to the surface to be decorated.

Materials: 1.Woolen thread 2.Base 3.Paint 4.Brush 5.Paper 6.Water can

3. Pictures-prints
You can make prints using foam molds, which are convenient for drawing with a pointed object, leaving indentations in this mold. Then paint must be applied to the mold. A sheet of paper is immediately applied over the form and ironed. After a while, you need to carefully remove the sheet of paper. A beautiful drawing will appear on its back.

Materials: 1.Foam form 2.Pencil 3.Paint 4.Brush 5.Paper 6.Water can

4. Prints "leaves"
This technique is familiar to many. You can use any paint to print the sheet. Apply paint to the streaked side. Then the painted side of the sheet is applied to the paper, ironed. After a few seconds, you need to gently lift the sheet. An imprint of a leaf will remain on the sheet of paper.

Materials: 1.Leaf 2.Paint 3.Brush 4.Paper 5.Water can

5. Prints with potatoes, carrots, apples
Delicious vegetables and fruits can paint too. It is only necessary to give them the desired shape, choose the appropriate paint color, paint with a brush and make a beautiful print on the surface to be decorated.

Materials: 1.Vegetable / fruit 2.Paint 3.Brush 4.Paper 5.Water can

DRAWING WITH HANDS

1. Draw with palms

It is very interesting and exciting to draw with colored palms. It is very pleasant and unusual to paint your pens with bright colors and leave your prints on a piece of paper. Hand drawing is a fun game for little artists.

Materials: 1.Finger paints 2.Paper 3.Brush 4.Water can

2. Draw with your fingers

You can also draw with your fingers, leaving multi-colored prints on paper.

Materials: 1.Finger paints 2.Paper 3.Pencil / felt-tip pen 4.Water can

DRAWING WITH SOAP BUBBLES

You can also draw with soap bubbles. To do this, add any soap solution and paint to a glass of water. Use a straw to bubble up a lot of foam. Place paper on the bubbles. When the first patterns begin to appear, you can lift the paper. Bubble patterns are ready.

Materials: 1.A glass of water 2.Paint 3.Soap solution 4.Tubule 5.Paper

DRAWING WITH SALT

The salt gives the design quirky patterns. For any landscape or bright background, you can use salt to give the background a nice texture. The background must be sprinkled with salt while the paint is still wet. When the paint is dry, simply shake off the remaining salt. Unusual light spots will remain in their place.

Materials: 1.Salt 2.Paint 3.Brush 4.Paper 5.Water can

DRAWING WITH MINT PAPER

A crumpled napkin or piece of paper also produces an interesting texture. There are two ways to paint with crumpled paper.
Method number 1. Liquid paint is applied to a sheet of paper. After a short period of time (while the sheet is still wet), a crumpled napkin is applied to the sheet. By absorbing moisture, the napkin leaves its characteristic mark on the surface of the paper.
Method number 2. First you need to crush a sheet or napkin. Apply a coat of paint to this lump. Then the colored side can be printed.
Texture sheets can then be successfully used to create collages.

Materials: 1.Napkin / Paper 2.Paint 3.Brush 4.Water can

DRAWING WITH OIL PASTEL AND WATER COLOR

A technique for painting "magic" pictures using white oil pastels. Any "invisible" pattern is drawn on white paper with white pastels. But as soon as the brush and paint begin to decorate the white sheet, then ... children will feel like real wizards when magic pictures begin to appear under their brushes.

Materials: 1.Oil white pastel 2.Watercolour 3.Brush 4.Paper 5.Water can

MONOTYPY

Monotype technique from the Greek. "Mono" is one and "typos" is an imprint, an imprint, a touch, an image.
This is a technique for painting with a unique print. Only one print is obtained and it is impossible to create two absolutely identical works.
There are two types of monotypes.

1. Monotype on glass

A layer of gouache paint is applied to a smooth surface (glass, plastic board, film). Then a drawing is created with a finger or a cotton swab. A sheet of paper is laid on top and pressed against the surface. The result is a mirror image.

Materials: 1.Smooth surface 2.Gouache 3.Brush 4.Paper 5.Water can

2. Subject monotype

Bend a sheet of paper in half. Inside, on one half, paint something with paints. Then fold the sheet and iron it by hand to get a symmetrical print.

Materials: 1.Paint 2.Brush 3.Paper 4.Water can

BLOTGRAPHY

The unconventional technique of drawing "blobography" (blowing with a straw) is another magic of creative pursuits. Such an activity for children is very exciting, interesting and very useful. Just as blowing through a straw strengthens health: the strength of the lungs and the respiratory system of the child as a whole.
To create a magic picture, you need a large blob, on which you need to blow, blow, blow ... until an intricate drawing appears on a sheet of paper. When a strange drawing is ready, you can paint on the details: leaves, if you get a tree; eyes, if you get a magical creature.

Materials: 1.Watercolour 2.Stubble 3.Brush 4.Paper 5.Water can

NITCOGRAPHY

Drawing techniques using the "magic thread". It is necessary to lower the strings into the paint so that they are well saturated with the paint. Then they need to be put on the paper so that the ends of the thread 5-10 cm protrude from both sides of the sheet of paper. The threads are covered with another sheet of paper. Stick the top sheet with your hands. The threads are bred in different directions. The top sheet rises. The unusual picture is ready.

Materials: 1.Thread 2.Paint 3.Paper 4.Water can

DRAWING WITH COTTON STICKS

In the visual arts, there is a stylistic trend in painting, which is called "Pointillism" (from the French point - point). It is based on the manner of writing in separate dotted or rectangular strokes.
The principle of this technique is simple: the child paints the picture with dots. To do this, you need to dip a cotton swab in the paint and put dots on the drawing, the outline of which has already been drawn.

Materials: 1.Cotton swabs 2.Paint 3.Paper 4.Water can

GRATTAGE "DAC-DAC"

The word "scratchboard" comes from the French "gratter" (to scratch, scratch).
To get started with this technique, you need to prepare the cardboard. The cardboard should be covered with a thick layer of wax or multi-colored oil pastels. Then a dark layer of paint should be applied to the surface of the cardboard with a wide brush or sponge. When the paint dries, the drawing is scratched with a sharp object (toothpick, knitting needle). Subtle solid or multi-colored strokes appear on a dark background.

Materials: 1.Cardboard 2.Oil Pastels 3.Gouache 4.Toothpick / Knitting Needle 5.Brush 6.Water Jar

FROTTAGE

The name of this technique comes from the French word frottage (rubbing).
To draw in this technique, you will need a sheet of paper that is placed on a flat embossed object. Then, on the surface of the paper, you need to start hatching with an unsharpened colored or simple pencil. The result is a print imitating the basic texture.

Materials: 1.Flat embossed object 2.Pencil 3.Paper

PLASTILINOGRAPHY

A technique that uses clay to create paintings depicting semi-volumetric objects on a horizontal surface. For the surface (base), thick paper, cardboard, wood are used. To decorate the image, you can use beads, beads, natural materials, and more.

Materials: 1.Plasticine 2.Base 3.Beads / Beads 4.Stacks
