  • For some reason, television games turned out to be almost the only genre in which Soviet television men were on an equal footing with their Western counterparts. Not in terms of the number of shows - it is difficult for one (and also a thoroughly state-owned) channel to compete with the developed industries of the United States and Britain - but in terms of the quality of content. Of course,

in favor were mostly ordinary contests like "Come on, girls", but they did not create fame on the international arena for domestic television.

In general, Western TV producers hardly looked back at what was happening behind the Iron Curtain at that time. Games from ordinary life naturally appeared first on the radio, and at the end of the 30s came to newborn television. The first such show was Spelling bee - a very popular game in English-speaking countries that requires the correct spelling of words (it was played at the national level, for example, by Lisa Simpson in one of the series "The Simpsons").

The real heyday was awaiting TV games in the 50s - but together with scandals related to allegations of suicide and foul play, which eventually led to the almost complete disappearance (for some time, of course) of TV quizzes and limiting the amount of possible winnings (this limitation was gone itself along with the rise in inflation).

Filmmakers, of course, could not pass by such a serious phenomenon -

and in 1994, when the passions had largely subsided, based on those events, the film "TV Quiz" was shot with and Ralph Fiennes.

Now, by the way, such situations, perhaps, are possible only in the cinema - the US courts in the late 50s and early 60s adopted laws that, if not completely exclude cheating, then reduce its likelihood to very insignificant values. Being honest is simply more profitable.

    Everything is fair

Alexander Maslyakov in the TV game "KVN"

    First channel

In the USSR, there were no such problems, especially at the very beginning of the 60s, when many new and, as it turned out, good programs appeared - they were on the air for a long time, and some are still on. In 1961, the "Club of the cheerful and resourceful" was launched - the direct heir to the show, released back in 1957, on the first wave of the thaw, and then closed after an incident with the audience (they were asked to come to the studio in winter clothes in the summer to receive a prize) of the show "An evening of funny questions."

Play on words was in vogue then, so the transformation of BBB into KVN (this was also one of the possible decryptions of the name of the most common TV model of that time) was relatively painless.

Like other thematic programs of the early 60s (for example, "Health" or "Travelers' Club"), KVN has taken root on television and not only: the club has spawned a whole movement among university students, comparable in popularity to student teams. And it was closed in 1972 - for reasons, as they say, far from creative, since the transmission potential was not fully realized. It was possible to correct this situation only in the late 80s, during Gorbachev's perestroika, when the revived KVN began to lead again.

Maslyakov was generally one of the most recognizable teleperson of that time - the Moscow Art and Technology Institute team in 1986-1987 called him "the permanent presenter from the Middle Ages" (in fact, Maslyakov came into the program only in 1964).

Be that as it may, now KVN is an international empire, in which there are many teams (most of all from the countries of the former USSR), festivals and competitions.

TV presenter of the quiz “What? Where? When?" Vladimir Voroshilov (center) is waiting for an answer to a question, 1984

    Yurchenko / RIA Novosti

Another television game of the Soviet era, the intellectual club “What? Where? When?".

Invented in the mid-70s by Vladimir Voroshilov and Natalia Stetsenko, the TV game eventually turned into an international corporation, which also mainly covers the countries that emerged on the site of the former USSR. But there are also differences - ChGK was never closed (after his death in 2001 he became the host), and the broadcast format was sold, for example, to Turkey (the program has been released there since 2011) and in the USA (Million Dollar Mind Game was released on the channel in 2011 year and was closed after the first season - but not because it turned out to be bad).

Everything was already in The Simpsons

Leonid Yakubovich in the capital show "Field of Miracles"

    First channel

In the post-Soviet era, the production of original game shows practically came to naught - televisions were finally allowed to look at the rest of the world, where the game television industry had flourished for decades, and to choose from the offered assortment, if not the best, but close to it.

However, for the first time it began at the very end of the 80s, when the USSR, although it did not live well, but quite existed for itself. The captain of the already mentioned KVN team from the Moscow Art Institute became the first of the new set who eventually changed his profession - instead of a chemist-technologist, he became a TV presenter. In 1989, he began to lead "Happy Accident", the western analogue of which was the board game Trivial pursuit ("Race for the Leader") - a box with it was presented to all participants in the program and generally promoted it in every possible way on the Russian board game market. Lasted "Happy Accident" on the air of ORT (now -) for a surprisingly long time, until 2000, then moved for a short while and was soon completely closed.

At about the same time as Lucky Chance, the Field of Miracles spun its famous wheel.

Its first presenter was Vlad Listyev, who was responsible for many high-profile television projects of the perestroika period - for example, he invented (or transferred to Russian soil) Rush Hour and the Tema talk show. And if "Rush Hour" was copied from the show, then the model for "Field of Miracles" was the game "Wheel of Fortune", also from the United States.

    Quiz game "Own game"

    NTV

The Western format was also used for the game "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" (which originally came out as "Oh Lucky") - the basis for it was the British quiz Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? !), and for "One hundred to one" (Family Feud). One of the few examples of its own game content in the TV games of that time was the "Brain Ring", invented by the creator of the ChGK Vladimir Voroshilov back in the early 80s, a team competition similar to "What? Where? When?".

In general, now it is quite difficult to create an original entertaining game show - it will certainly look like something already existing; 80 years of experience practically guarantees this. And there is nothing wrong with buying Western formats by domestic channels - this way they avoid the risks of litigation, and the national characteristics introduced during adaptation still turn various "Wheels of Fortune" into a truly domestic TV product. What, for example, has the "Field of Miracles" become over the past 27 years.

Reality shows are loved by viewers all over the world. Stars and ordinary people become their participants, but in either case, the rating of the program can be extremely high.

    Popular Intelligent Reality Shows

Intellectual reality shows are a certain charge for the mind, a game that you can simply watch or take passive participation in, independently completing the tasks of the participants.

    "Polyglot"

The program "Polyglot" was shown on Russian television and is a huge success. The essence of the competition is teaching a foreign language under the guidance of a polyglot and a translator in just 16 lessons.

Each season is dedicated to learning a specific language. In the first season, the participants learned English, in the second - Italian. In the third season, we got acquainted with the basics of the French language, in the fourth - Spanish. The fifth season taught them German, and the sixth season taught them Indo-Aryan and Indo-European languages (Hindi and Urdu). The participants in the show were celebrities who previously did not know foreign dialects at all or only remembered the basics of the school curriculum.

    "Candidate"

In America, the audience fell in love with the intellectual reality show "The Candidate". In this program, participants are tested for their mental abilities, asking the most difficult tasks and puzzles, witness and erudition are tested.

The most gifted participant gets the opportunity to get a job with the billionaire, 45th US President Donald Trump, who is one of the ten most successful and wealthy people in America. Accordingly, the salary in the service of such an employer is also significant. Thus, this show is a kind of interview with a probationary period, because the host of the program is the billionaire himself.

    Entertainment reality shows

The format of the reality show implies work without repeated takes, the absence of a rigid script and the simulation of special conditions. Perhaps these are the basic rules, and then everything depends on the imagination of the authors. In fact, literally any situation can be turned into an entertaining reality show: from looking for a job to shopping and solving problems of survival.

An interesting combination of assessing beauty and intelligence came up with the creators of the reality show "The Smartest Model" in America. Rachel Murphy and Mike L. Taylor undertook to refute the prevailing opinion that God cannot give a girl both intelligence and beauty. To do this, they gathered all the models who did not mind demonstrating their intellectual abilities, and began to check their IQ level.

    The most famous foreign shows

The most inventive and creative producers and directors of interesting reality shows are Americans. All the most popular programs in the world are analogs of their projects: "Fear Factor", "X-Factor", "Bachelor", "So You Can Dance".

    Juliana & Bill Family Show

According to viewers, the most famous American show is "Juliana and Bill", in which a married couple share their problems of conceiving and carrying a child. A young girl was diagnosed with breast cancer. She needs to undergo chemotherapy and undergo surgery to remove the tumor.

It is strictly forbidden for her to have a child in this state, so the couple decided on surrogacy. Throughout the show, the audience watched the difficulties and victories of the young couple in achieving their goal.

    Cooking show "Hell's Kitchen"

One of the most popular culinary reality shows is Hell's Kitchen and its counterparts around the world. The program is based on the idea of discovering culinary talents among professionals and amateurs in the face of fierce competition and psycho-emotional stress.

First, the participants are divided into teams. According to the results of a series of competitions, the losing team must remove one of its representatives. But already in the middle of the program, the team game is replaced by an individual one, in which everyone fights for himself. The winner receives a cash prize and a chance to work as a chef in a prestigious restaurant.

Reality show of fashion and beauty

The reality show of fashion and beauty "America's Next Top Model" is very popular. Participants compete among themselves for the opportunity to create a career in the modeling business. The shooting of the first episodes takes place in America, and in the second part of the show, the participants travel to the most beautiful cities in the world: Paris, Tokyo, Milan, etc.

    The most famous domestic shows

Russian television is full of a wide variety of reality shows, so everyone can choose a project based on their preferences, and, possibly, become a participant in it.

"Dom-2" - the longest reality show

Of course, speaking about the projects - "long-livers" of Russian television, one cannot help but recall Dom-2, which was hosted by Ksenia Sobchak, Ksenia Borodina, Olga Buzova, etc. Already in 2006, just 2 years after its start, he got into the Guinness Book of Records as the longest reality show in the world. The goal of the project is to find your soul mate and win a dream house in the Moscow region. According to the terms of the show, the participants are in a certain area under the constant sight of television cameras. They fall in love, break up, create families and have children.

    Extreme show "The Last Hero"

"The Last Hero" and its successor to the reality show "The Island" began their history in 2001. According to the rules of the project, the participants are planted on a deserted island for 40 days, completely depriving them of all the achievements of civilization. Their task is to survive on the island, getting their own food, water, and equip housing. In addition, they take part in compulsory contests. As a result, the last hero receives a cash prize. Usually, ordinary people become participants in reality shows, but season 3 consisted entirely of Russian television stars. The final prize was then won by Vladimir Presnyakov.

    Ice shows

Popular figure skating shows "Stars on Ice" and "Ice Age" have fallen in love with viewers since 2006. The transmission concept is a competition between skaters in greenhouses. Moreover, one partner of the pair is a professional, and the other is an amateur. Some of the participants had never skated at all before the project. During this time, several presenters have changed at the ice show, many judges and professional athletes, but the permanent chairman of the jury is the legend of world figure skating - coach Tatyana Anatolyevna Tarasova.

    Mystical show

Fans of mysticism and paranormal phenomena since 2007 have been watching the test of psychic abilities of clairvoyants in the reality show "The Battle of Psychics". By creating various tests for them, skeptics determine the most powerful owners of the sixth sense. The popularity of the project is so wide that people who are desperate to find answers to their questions often turn to psychics and ask to understand the reasons and circumstances of this or that event in their life.

The reality show can be seen on the TV program every day, but the world's longest series was not broadcast on Russian television .. It lasted more than 50 years.

It took over a lot from the American one. Unfortunately, this "much" has atrophied under the weight of Russian television realities, where any plot becomes a loud parody of itself. It's almost impossible to watch our programs, which is good - we spend less time watching TV. On the other hand, sometimes you just want to relax your brains, and in this case, Americans can come to the rescue with their manner of making a show out of nothing. Think about it - they've created a dynamic show about a damn pawn shop! What place could be more boring than a pawnshop? Perhaps a make-up studio, but they made a show out of it too.

Reference: all shows can be found in the public domain if you fly under the pirate flag.

    1. Pawn Stars

Let's start with the most "boring" show. Pawnshop Stars is a 15-season show that explores the usual day-to-day work of a typical (sorry for the tautology) family pawnshop. The pawnshop, by the way, is real. It is located in the most gambling and vicious city in the world - Las Vegas. A good location for such a business, which you immediately dazzle when you see what kind of visitors come to the Harrison family (the owners of this establishment). The business is extremely masculine and is focused on art objects, collectible expensive items and things that have historical value. For example, right now on the site of the pawnshop are the works of Albrecht Durer and Marc Chagall.

But the show is interesting not because they buy and sell expensive things, but because of the most common relationships, conflicts that arise in the family circle or when communicating with strange clients. They also conduct a thorough analysis of the item that fell into their hands. We make allowances for the fact that the show is shown on the History TV channel, and we get a popular product where you can still learn something new.

    2. Face Off

It has always seemed to us that among the Hollywood make-up artists, women have taken most of the bread places, but if you watch the show "No Face", you will see that there are enough men there. And this is not surprising - the work of the make-up artist, as it turned out, is not only to correctly apply mascara and emphasize the shape of the face. The job of the make-up artist is to create a hideous monster from an insanely attractive model.

The members of the show try to make it to the finale in order to get some money (by the standards of American shows) and a car. For this, the participants are ready to translate their most abnormal ideas into reality in order to please the picky judges, among whom you often meet such people as Sean S. Cunningham (director of films about Jason). "Without a face" is also a show that you can safely watch with a friend, she will also be interested. Well, for those who are fond of cinema and want to understand the inner workings of filmmaking, the show is a must-see.

    3. Ice Road Truckers

There are several TV series about truckers on American television. Some of them are boring, like the last seasons of Supernatural, but some are quite good for themselves. For example, the "Ice Route of Truckers" brought to an absolute love of Americans for this simple profession of a driver of large cargo monsters. The Vienna of the States is a motorway, an endless network of roads, so truckers become folk heroes, acquire a halo of mystical creatures and the intricacies of folk tales.

Truckers' Ice Route refers to a network of highways that run through frozen tundra, lakes and rivers. On these roads, trucks carry essential goods to oil workers who work in northern Alaska, in Prudhoe Bay. Danger, drive, endless road problems and time that doesn't work in the drivers' favor - that's why this show is so interesting to watch.

    4. Deadliest Catch

The Bering Sea is a relatively small layer of water that separates Russia from the United States of America. The sea itself is used as they want, because there are always a lot of fish and even more crabs (king and snow crab). Fishermen are a harsh people, catastrophically courageous and completely unlike office hamsters. To go fishing for king crab in the Unalashka Bay (Aleutian Islands), you need to have steel eggs.

If you are new to the fishing business, then do not poke your nose in there - the percentage that you will not return home is high. But if you are a professional, then you can try your luck, because a rich catch gives the ship's crew good money. Actually, it is money that is the criterion that fishermen are guided by. For us, it's more of a romance. For them, it’s hard, but rewarding work.

"Deadly Catch" is a reality show about men who do their hard work and get paid for doing it on camera. In general, it is clear to us that a lot is left behind the scenes, and there is an element of staging, but this does not interfere with viewing.

    5. Alaska: a family from the forest (Alaskan Bush People)

When you hang out in the office from 8 am to 8 pm, you start to think that the only salvation for your captive soul is on the other side of the ocean - in Alaska. Or at least somewhere in Siberia, where no human has gone before. But living in the wild is not as easy as it seems. The first days you will feel freedom, and all the next days you will feel painful withdrawal due to the lack of the Internet and the usual food. The Americans may be fools, but they came up with a show that allows you to feel the hardships of the life of your ancestors through the screen so that you can safely go to work in the morning.

"Alaska: Family from the Forest" is the choice of a person who has decided to stay in the city. There you will see the story of the Brown family. They live so far away that they see other people every six months (not counting the film crew). The family itself calls itself a "wolf pack", which, in addition to the father of the family, Billy, includes his wife Amy and seven children. In general, in this show you will see how a crazy dad deprives his children of computer games, and his wife - shopping centers to get ready for the cold - winter is close, like beer in your refrigerator.

    6. Moonshiners

Once we wrote, but until recently we could not even imagine that illegal moonshine still flourishes in the United States. And it exists and keeps vigorous, because an underground product will always be in use if the population does not have legal money.

Americans have been producing alcohol in self-made distilleries for a long time, but the business had to be sharpened under modern realities. Today there are no gangsters who served as a "roof" for this whole business. The moonshiners have to cope with the dangers that await them at every turn in the face of the government, competitors and themselves.

It is a pleasure to follow the process of the formation of a criminal empire, even if you do not take everything filmed on faith. In addition, if you watch this series, you will gain practical skills that will help you survive and earn money in the most difficult times. The whole plot takes place in the Appalachian mountains - it is there that novices and veterans butt each other to capture the entire shadow alcohol market.

On Tuesday, June 14, a snippet of the American Ninja Warrior show, in which a man in a Tyrannosaurus costume tried to overcome an obstacle course, became a hit on Facebook. More than 10 million people watched the video per day. The jumping and soaring dinosaur was considered by users to be a sight worthy of attention. "Lenta.ru" remembered what other non-trivial ways American TV channels are trying to entertain their viewers.

    Pathological storage

Literally the name of the show Hoarding: Buried Alive is translated into Russian as "Hoarding: Buried Alive", but in adaptation it was turned into "Captured by unnecessary things: Buried alive". It premiered on TLC in 2010. A similar program called Hoarders ("Accumulators") is filmed by the American TV channel A&E; since 2009, eight seasons of the program have been released.

The Buried Alive program is dedicated to people suffering from pathological hoarding (or Plyushkin's syndrome). They collect all rubbish and rubbish in their houses and apartments, gradually turning rooms into a real trash heap.

Each episode of the program is a separate story about the fate of the "drive". The hosts of the show study the life story of the hero and communicate with his loved ones in order to understand how best to help him. Then doctors work with him to help get rid of the pathology. At the end of the episodes, the heroes of the show, as a rule, overcome the pernicious passion for "plushkinism".

The show is notable primarily for the houses and apartments of its heroes. Piles of garbage, among the randomly scattered things cockroaches roam freely, on which the "accumulators" do not pay any attention. Moreover, they calmly use pans and towels, where hordes of insects have recently sat. One of the heroines with a sinister smile admitted that the kitchen, which looks more like an industrial dump, is her favorite place in the house.

You can see better from below

The world premiere of Our Little Family took place in February 2015, and the show has already gone through two seasons.

Our Little Family tells about the everyday problems faced by the average dwarf. The heroes of the project are the spouses of Hammila. Dan and Michelle are raising their son Jack and twin daughters Cece and Kate. Their children and they themselves suffer from achondroplasia, a hereditary disease in which short stature occurs due to underdevelopment of long bones.

On the show, the Hammils show how hard it is for them to do something that normal people don't even think about. Buying clothes, choosing furniture or driving a car turns out to be a real problem for them. "Small family" demonstrates how ill-adapted the world is for short people.

However, the family is not discouraged and looks extremely optimistic, because love, mutual understanding and mutual support help to overcome any difficulties.

    Just such a strong love

The first episode of Strange Love aired in March 2015. The heroes of the program are people with an appearance that does not correspond to generally accepted standards of beauty. But this is not an obstacle to personal happiness.

In some episodes, the stories of unusual couples are explored, in others the heroes hope to find their love directly during the filming.

For example, the heroine of one of the episodes was a woman with legs only 40 centimeters long. In another episode, a woman was looking for her soul mate a head taller than most men.

In addition, the show featured a bearded woman, an albino Negro, a man named Santa Claus and a woman with 14 breast sizes.

    Big wedding

In the Curvy Brides show, girls with impressive dimensions are helped to choose a wedding dress. The hosts of the show, sisters Yukia Harris-Walker and Yuneisia Harris, are confident that a woman can look good in any size of clothes.

Sisters choose dresses for brides in their Curvaceous Couture salon. They proudly declare that their store sells clothes that are designed with a multitude of curvaceous features in mind. And they vehemently reject the theory of one XXL size for all curvy women.

Yukiya and Yunisha follow the latest in wedding fashion and take into account all world trends when choosing dresses for their store.

The idea to open a salon came to the sisters after their own sad experience. Preparing for the wedding, Yukiya faced the fact that a large woman simply had nowhere to find an elegant festive outfit. The sisters have been struggling with this injustice for several seasons and during this time they were finally convinced that their store would flourish. After all, every year there are more and more fat people.

    Ninja warrior

American Ninja Warrior is an adaptation of the Japanese sports TV show Sasuke, which premiered back in 1997. Sasuke's heroes need to overcome an absurdly difficult obstacle course and reach the final. Japanese entertainment unexpectedly found fans all over the world - the program was broadcast in more than 150 countries and spawned many remakes, one of which was "American Ninja Warrior".

The American version of the show premiered in 2009. Each episode lasts approximately 30 minutes, and the participants of the program can choose any outfit for themselves and jump on spinning trampolines and water cannons in shiny tights or dinosaur costumes.

At the end of the show, the heroes will receive cash prizes depending on how many tests they managed to complete. If the participant passes all the tests within the specified time, he will receive a million dollars and the title of "American Ninja Warrior". True, in the entire long history of the program, only two lucky ones managed to do this.

    Here comes Hani Boo-boo

The reality show Here comes Honey Boo-Boo is no longer aired after its heroine began dating a man convicted of pedophilia. However, without this program, the list of strange American shows would not be complete.

This show aired on TLC from 2012 to 2014. The main characters, the Thompson family, were significantly different from the rich and successful people that viewers are used to seeing on screen.

Juna, the mother of Alana (real name Hani Boo-Boo), revealed that she gave birth to her first daughter at the age of 15. In total, she has four children from different fathers. At the end of the first season, Juna, then 32 years old, became a grandmother: her 17-year-old daughter gave birth to a child. Juna often said that she was not worried about any world problems, fed her children with fast food, gave Alana a mixture of soda and energy.

Because of this TV show, TLC was constantly criticized, but it was the absolutely wild and trashy lifestyle of the Thompson family that made the show popular. Close Here comes Honey Boo-Boo, constantly accused of indulging the base interests of the public and exploiting a child, only succeeded after a loud scandal with pedophilia.

    God about God

In April 2016, National Geographic launched the "Stories of God" show. The host is the famous Hollywood actor Morgan Freeman. The one who played the role of God in the movies in the comedies "Bruce Almighty" and "Evan Almighty".

In the show, the actor travels the world and introduces viewers to religious shrines, for example, the Western Wall in Jerusalem or Mayan temples. In total, during the filming of the program, he visited about 20 cities.

In each issue, Freeman explores the characteristics of a particular religious belief and finds out exactly how different mythologies explain certain phenomena. For example, the second episode of the show focuses on doomsday prophecies that exist in most cultures and religions.

The actor does not leave this topic for several episodes. He talks with people who have experienced clinical death, learns from the Hindus why they are not afraid of death, shows how the indigenous people of Mexico relate to this.

At the moment, six episodes of the program have been released, and in each Freeman is trying to find answers to eternal questions.
