Halibut cooking methods

To bake halibut in the oven, you must first clean it well and remove the insides, rinse in running water and dry with kitchen paper towels. It is advisable to use a refrigerated product. The dish will turn out delicious and appetizing.

Fish can be cooked in one of the following ways:

  1. Remove entrails and head and bake whole on a baking sheet.
  2. Cut into portions and cook under a "fur coat" of vegetables or hard cheese. Halibut in the oven with cheese turns out juicy and very tasty.
  3. Wrap the portions in foil or parchment paper with white wine.
  4. Cook fish in tomato or sour cream sauce.

How to quickly and tasty bake halibut with potatoes

Oven Halibut with Potatoes is a simple yet sophisticated dish that is very easy to prepare. It is not a shame to serve it even to the guests' festive table. We recommend using fish fillets or portioned steaks for cooking. You will need:

  • 900 g halibut;
  • 600 g of young potatoes;
  • 2 medium carrots;
  • 2 large onions;
  • 5-6 cloves of garlic;
  • 80 g butter;
  • coarse table salt;
  • freshly ground black pepper;
  • a large pinch of dry basil;
  • 5 sprigs of fresh parsley;
  • oil for lubricating the mold.

How to bake halibut in the oven

Lubricate a large refractory mold with vegetable oil. Turn on the oven to warm up to a temperature of 185 ° C. You can also cook halibut in sour cream in the oven, but then we recommend preparing the side dish separately.

Cut the onions into thick half rings, mash them well with your hands so that they let the juice out, and place them in the center of the baking sheet.

Prepare the fish: if necessary, rinse and dry, season generously with a mixture of ground peppers and salt, sprinkle with dry basil. Place halibut on an onion pillow and spread thin slices of butter on top.

Peel vegetables from the skin and husk, crush the garlic with a knife (this way it will best give its aroma and taste when baked) and arrange in random order in shape.

Chop the young potatoes and carrots, put in a bowl and season with salt and pepper. Add a little sunflower oil and stir the vegetables until they are covered with an oily film.

Arrange the vegetables around the fish, flatten and place the dish in the hot oven. Then the halibut will be baked evenly in the oven.

When the vegetables are ready, you can take out the baking sheet. This time will be enough for the fish to cook. And thanks to the butter, it will remain juicy and get a crispy crust.

Serve fillet of halibut baked in the oven with potatoes, in portions, accompanied by fresh herbs and vegetable salad.

Halibut in original sauce

If you wish, you can bake the halibut whole in the oven. The recipe below is perfect for the daily meals of the whole family. Moreover, the fish cooked using it is also worthy of a festive table. On a large baking sheet, you can bake several carcasses at once, which greatly simplifies the cooking process.

For cooking you will need:

  • small carcass of halibut;
  • 65 ml of sunflower oil;
  • 2-3 lemons;
  • 50 ml soy sauce;
  • 1 tbsp. a spoonful of honey;
  • 1 tbsp. a spoonful of chili sauce;
  • 50 g butter;
  • coarse table salt - to taste;
  • a little black pepper;
  • 5 sprigs of dill and parsley.

How to bake whole halibut

Prepare the fish for baking: peel it without damaging the skin, remove the insides and cut out the gills from the head. For an aesthetic look, we recommend not removing the head of the fish.

Rinse the fish and pat dry with kitchen paper towels. Brush it with softened butter. Season the carcass well with salt and a mixture of ground peppers and set aside for a while.

In a separate bowl, mix soy sauce with a little vegetable oil, add chili and liquid honey. Stir and coat generously with the fish, leaving a little of the mixture to grease and glaze during the baking process.

Coarsely chop fresh herbs and place them in the belly of the fish. It is enough to cut one lemon into thick rings, and the second, on the contrary, as thin as possible, almost transparent rings.

Place thick lemon slices in the belly of the fish. Put some of the thin rings on a baking sheet, place the fish on them and place the remaining slices on top.

Brush the halibut with the remaining sauce and place in the preheated oven for at least 25 minutes. Remove the mold after 12-15 minutes. Once again, brush the sauce over the surface of the halibut, return the shape to the oven and bake until tender.

After cooking the whole halibut in the oven, serve it as it is, without dividing it into portions. To do this, take a serving dish and decorate it with fresh herbs. Put the finished fish on it, put slices of fresh lemon, halves of cherry tomatoes, fresh or lightly salted cucumbers cut into strips next to it. The halibut is ready in the oven.

If you intend to bake the whole halibut in the oven, try to get an already gutted and peeled carcass, this will save you not only energy, but also shorten the cooking time.

To make the potatoes golden and appetizing when baked, you should season them with a little turmeric or sweet paprika. It is these spices that can transform the root vegetable.

Step 1: prepare the fish.

Fish steaks must be fresh or thawed. For halibut, take one large steak and cut it in half across.
Rinse the fish, pat dry with disposable paper towels, season with salt and pepper and let sit for a couple of minutes at room temperature.

Step 2: prepare the tomatoes.


Rinse the cherry tomatoes, dry and cut into halves.

Step 3: cook fish steaks in the oven.


In a skillet, melt the butter over low heat, mixing it with the vegetable oil. Add garlic, dill and green onions here, mix, heat a little and remove from heat. Add freshly squeezed lemon juice, cherry tomatoes, salt and ground pepper immediately. Stir well to create a kind of sauce.
Place the fish steaks in the same skillet and pour the sauce over them.

Place fish steaks in preheated until 190 degrees oven. And cook everything for 20 minutes... But, later 11-12 minutes, fish steaks need to be turned over so that they are thoroughly baked on all sides.
As soon as you take out the finished fish from the oven, it should be immediately served for lunch or dinner.

Fried halibut: how to cook at home?

There are many options for preparing such fish. The most popular is the one where halibut fillets are fried in bread crumbs and served with a side dish. But first things first.

How to make a delicious dinner with fish like halibut? How to cook it in a pan? For this we need the following components:

  • peeled frozen halibut - about 800 g;
  • refined vegetable oil - about 50 ml;
  • fresh lemon - ½ pc.;
  • the egg is not very large - 1 pc .;
  • bread crumbs - 50 g.

Before cooking halibut fillets, thaw them at room temperature, then rinse and dry thoroughly with paper towels.

After that, you need to start marinating the fish. For this we decided to use only natural and simple ingredients. Halibut fillet is carefully rubbed with medium-sized sea salt and a mixture of any peppers. Then it is sprinkled with lemon juice, covered with a lid and left at room temperature for 30-50 minutes.

How to make a delicious halibut fillet? To do this, be sure to use bread crumbs, which are spread on a flat plate. In order for such a product to adhere well to the marinated fish fillet, it is recommended to first dip the halibut into the egg batter. To do this, put the chicken egg in a deep bowl and beat well with a fork.

How to fry in a pan?

A large skillet must be used to fry such fish. Sunflower oil is heated in it, and then all the pieces of the product are laid out one by one. First, halibut is first dipped in egg batter, and then rolled in bread crumbs.

After frying the fish on both sides until reddening (for 17-18 minutes), spread it on paper napkins and deprive it of fat as much as possible.

Now you know how to cook fillet halibut. After the fish in batter is fried, it is laid out on a plate, and mashed potatoes are placed next to it. This dish should be consumed with a slice of bread and a salad of fresh vegetables.

  • fresh tomatoes - 2 pcs.;
  • olive mayonnaise - 50 g;
  • grated hard cheese - 110 g.

How to cook halibut fillet? To do this, the fish must be thawed, washed well, dried with paper towels, seasoned with table salt and left aside for a while. After that, you need to peel all the vegetables and start chopping them.

Potato tubers and fresh tomatoes are cut into slices, and onions are cut into half rings. As for the cheese, it is simply grated.

We form a dish and bake it in the oven

To form such a dish, you must use a deep mold. It is greased with sunflower oil, and then the potato slices are laid out. They are seasoned with salt and then evenly covered with onion rings and halibut fillets. At the end, tomato slices are spread on the fish and greased with a little mayonnaise. After that, sprinkle the whole dish with finely grated cheese.

Having formed a multi-layered lunch, it is sent to a preheated oven and baked for a whole hour. When the vegetables and fish become soft, and the cheese has melted, covering the dish with an appetizing cap, it is taken out of the oven and immediately served at the dinner table.

Serving a meal for a family meal

After baking the dish in the oven, the finished halibut fillet with vegetables is distributed on plates, without violating the integrity of the layers. On top, lunch is sprinkled with fresh green onions and served along with a slice of bread.

  • Liquid sour cream - 200 g
  • Flour - 1 tbsp. l.
  • Butter - 70 g
  • Hard cheese - 150 g
  • Vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation:

  1. Peel and rinse the fish. Cut it into portions. Dip each piece well in flour and fry in a little vegetable oil until half cooked.
  2. Peel and cut the onion into half rings. Place onion and fish on a baking sheet. Fry the flour in a pan, add sour cream and wait for the mixture to boil. Season with salt and spices to taste. Stir the mixture so that the flour does not curl up into lumps. Divide the finished sauce into 2 parts: pour one over the fish, and leave the other.
  3. Grate the cheese on a coarse grater and sprinkle it over the fish. Place the baking sheet in an oven preheated to 180 degrees for 25 minutes. Ready-made halibut is served hot, seasoned with the 2nd part of the sauce and sprinkled with chopped herbs.
