"Choir Turkish"- a musical group led by People's Artist of Russia Mikhail Turetsky. The unique concept of the band is based on “live” voices. Artists perform compositions in more than ten languages without phonogram, including a cappella, and can replace the orchestra with their voices. The ten vocalists represent the entire palette of male singing voices.

Team history

Turetsky's Choir made its debut in 1990 at the Philharmonic Halls in Tallinn and Kaliningrad. At the beginning of their career, the repertoire of the group differed from the modern shows of the Turetsky Choir. The origins of the art group go back to the Choir at the Moscow Choral Synagogue. In the late 1980s, the future Mikhail Turetsky Choir performed Jewish liturgical music. After several years, the ambitions of the team went beyond this rather narrow area. Today the group successfully combines a variety of genres in its repertoire: opera, sacred (liturgical), folk, popular music from different countries and eras.

“Very few were interested in this kind of music back then, and none at all in the post-Soviet countries ... ... ... So when I got the opportunity, I did some research in the libraries of New York and Jerusalem and discovered this deep, diverse, and very stylish layer. music, accessible on an emotional level to everyone ... ... ... Over time, we came to the understanding that we needed a wider audience and began to include secular material in our programs. ... ... ... Today our repertoire includes the music of the last four centuries: from Handel and hits of the Soviet era to chanson and the best examples of modern pop culture ... "

The main stages of creativity

1989 - Mikhail Turetsky creates and leads the male choir of the Moscow Choral Synagogue. In the same place, in 1990, the band officially debuted.

The first concerts of the Choir were held with the support of the Joint Charitable Organization in Kaliningrad, Tallinn, Chisinau, Kiev, Leningrad, Moscow and other cities. The "Male Jewish Chamber Choir" under the direction of Mikhail Turetsky at that time acted as a kind of locomotive for the revival of interest in the Jewish musical tradition. Music, which has been on the verge of extinction since 1917, has again sounded outside the synagogues and has become the property of a wide range of spectators.

2002-2003 - The ensemble is actively touring Germany and the USA.

2004 January - The first solo concert of the art group "Turetsky Choir" in the State Central Concert Hall "Russia" with the program "Ten Voices that Shook the World", for which Mikhail Turetsky was awarded the title "Person of the Year - 2004" in the nomination "Cultural Event of the Year" of the National Prize "Person of the Year - 2004".

2004 December - Art group "Turetsky Choir" presents the program "When Men Sing" at the State Kremlin Palace (with the participation of Emma Shaplan and Gloria Gaynor).

2005 January - American tour: concerts in the best venues in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlantic City, Boston and Chicago.

2005-2006 - the anniversary tour of the art group "Turetsky Choir" with a new program "Born to Sing" covers more than 100 cities in Russia and the CIS countries.

2006-2007 - A tour of the band with the program "Music of All Times and Peoples" in 70 cities of Russia and the CIS countries.

2007 - Art group "Turetsky Choir" becomes a laureate of the Russian music industry award "Record-2007" for the best classic album of the year - a collector's edition "Great Music", as well as a laureate of the Annual National Award "Emotion" in the "Respect" nomination. The prize was awarded for the loudest socially significant charitable project - the children's charity concert "Do Good Today!" The concert was attended by over 5000 children: gifted and talented children, children from socially vulnerable and large families, children with disabilities. “Our action is a unique opportunity to appeal to a huge audience of listeners with an appeal to do good,” believes Mikhail Turetsky, “it's no secret that the language of music, like no other, is accessible and understandable to each of us. Stormy applause, a sea of flowers, enthusiastic children's faces, fire in their eyes - all this testifies to the fact that our goal has been achieved ”.

2007-2008 - A tour of the band with the program "Hallelujah of Love" in the cities of Russia and the CIS countries. The choir gives a record number of concerts in Moscow: 4 "soloists" in the Kremlin Palace and one additional concert in Luzhniki (State Central Concert Hall "Russia").

2008-2009 - A tour of the band with the program "The show continues ..." in the cities of Russia, the CIS countries and the USA.

2011 - The Beginning tour starts.

In addition, I look at singing from an acting point of view, think over how I, for example, would not only sing this role, but also play it, conveying and showing all its drama ... There are millions of them ... He recorded several tracks with his favorite "Queens", added several classical compositions - and sent them by mail to the band's office. Several months passed ... they wrote to me that they were waiting for me at the audition in Moscow. It was just a miracle ... I consider my acquaintance and cooperation with the Choir a great success in my life. It is a great honor for me, as a young musician, to perform on the same stage with such professional singers, to absorb their experience, ability to stay on stage, voice control, acting. I will try to match the level of the famous team and grow in the professional sense of the word. "

Mikhail Borisovich Turetsky. Born April 12, 1962 in Moscow. Russian musician, founder and producer of the Turetsky Choir and SOPRANO art groups. People's Artist of the Russian Federation (2010).

Mikhail Turetsky was born on April 12, 1962 in Moscow into a Jewish family of immigrants from Belarus.

Father - Boris Borisovich Epstein, was born in the family of a blacksmith in the Mogilev province. At the age of 18, after the death of his father, he left for Moscow, where he studied at the pedagogical college, and then at the Academy of Foreign Trade. He worked as a master of the silk-screen printing workshop at a factory near Moscow.

Mother - Bella (Beilya) Semyonovna Turetskaya, worked as a nanny in a kindergarten. Her family was destroyed by the Nazis during the war.

Mikhail's parents met before the war in the town of Pukhovichi near Minsk. They went through the entire war: my father went to the front from the second year of the Academy in the first days of the war, was a participant in the breakthrough of the Leningrad blockade, and my mother was a nurse in an evacuation hospital in Gorky.

Mikhail is a late child. At the time of his birth, his father was 50, and his mother was 40. Since his son's birthday coincided with Cosmonautics Day, they wanted to name the child Yuri - in honor. But my father insisted on the name Mikhail. The family decided to give the son the mother's surname - since at that time not a single representative of the surname was already alive.

Has an older brother Alexander (the difference between them is 15 years).

As Mikhail recalled, his father, even at an old age, was an energetic and cheerful person who felt great: even at 70 he worked, went to the skating rink and to the ballroom.

The family lived modestly, in a 14-meter room in a communal apartment at the Belorusskaya metro station.

Already in early childhood, Mikhail showed musical talent. At the age of 3, he was already singing, and the first concert platform of the little musician was a chair, on which the boy willingly sang the then popular song "Lilac Mist" for his older brother and his friends.

Soon, a second room in a communal apartment and a piano appeared in Mikhail's house. Noticing extraordinary abilities, the parents decided to hire a piano teacher for their son. But the classes lasted only four months: the teacher declared that the child had absolutely no talent.

Then Mikhail Turetsky began to attend a music school in the class of piccolo flute (piccolo). In parallel with the flute, the father took his son to the boys' chapel.

One of the visits of his father's cousin, the famous conductor Rudolf Barshai, turned out to be fateful for the creative future of Turetsky. Hearing at a family dinner that Mikhail was playing the flute, the maestro offered him a consultation with one of his professional acquaintances. Upon learning that his nephew was also singing, the uncle asked the boy to sing the song. After that, Rudolf Borisovich made a call to the director of the A.V.Sveshnikov Choir School with a request not to listen to Mikhail in a biased manner. The Turkish at that time was eleven years old, while the average age of applicants was seven. Despite this, the boy was soon adopted.

After graduating from college, having withstood a serious competition, Mikhail Turetsky enters the conducting and choral faculty of the Gnesins State Music and Pedagogical Institute. In 1985, having received a diploma with honors, he continues his postgraduate studies, is engaged in symphony conducting. He regularly attends rehearsals of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic under the direction of E. A. Mravinsky, observing the work of the maestro. Soon Turetsky became a choirmaster and actor of the Theater of Musical Art under the direction of Yuri Sherling, where he seriously immersed himself in the history of synthetic art.

After graduating from the institute, in 1989, Mikhail Turetsky began recruiting soloists for the male choir at the Moscow Choral Synagogue. All members of the collective had a professional musical education. The main goal of the choir was the revival of Jewish sacred music in the USSR. The ensemble's repertoire was composed of Jewish liturgical music, which has not been performed since 1917. Traditionally, all the musicians sang a cappella, that is, without musical accompaniment, which required high professional training.

In just eighteen months, the choir under the direction of Mikhail Turetsky prepared an extensive program of Jewish sacred and secular music, with which it successfully performed in Israel, America, Germany, Great Britain, France, Canada, Spain (the "Por Me Espiritu" festival in the company of world music stars: Placido Domingo, Isaac Stern, Zubin Meta).

The collective quickly became in demand abroad, but in Russia in the early 90s, it was difficult for artists to find their audience. In 1993, the musicians were briefly supported by LogoVAZ (Boris Berezovsky) and the President of the Russian Jewish Congress Vladimir Gusinsky.

In 1995-1996, the team is divided into two parts: one remains in Moscow, the second goes to the USA (Miami, Florida) to work under a contract. Mikhail Turetsky has to lead both groups at the same time.

The experience gained by the collective while working in the United States significantly influenced the further repertoire policy of the choir and the understanding of the syncretic nature of this show. The artists immersed themselves in the atmosphere of American culture with its characteristic entertainment, dynamics, brightness of musical colors, as well as everything that is included in the modern concept of action. It was in the USA, among the famous Broadway musicals and first-class musicians, that the pop direction of the project was formed for the first time.

Thanks to a joint concert tour since 1997-1998. the audience of the former USSR also gets acquainted with the work of the collective.

In 1998 the choir received the status of a city municipal collective.

In the period from 1999 to 2002, the choir has its own repertoire performance ("Mikhail Turetsky's Vocal Show") at the Moscow State Variety Theater under the direction, which takes place 2 times a month. It was on this stage that the choir presented itself to the general public in Moscow.

In 2003, Turetsky discovered his universal concept in music, leaving a mark in the history of world and domestic show business not only as a professional musician, but also as the creator of such a phenomenon in mass musical culture as an “art group”. From that moment on, his team acquired a modern name - "Art Group Turetsky Choir"... Now it is an ensemble of 10 soloists, in which all existing types of male voices are represented: from the lowest (bass-profundo) to the highest (tenor-altino). The band's rebirth opens up broader horizons for the musicians. The choir's repertoire is significantly expanding, goes beyond the framework of one national culture, Jewish prayers and songs still remain in the repertoire, but no longer form its basis.

The essence of the concept of "art group" lies in the infinity of creative possibilities within one musical group. The repertoire of the art group covers music of different countries, styles and eras: from sacred chants and opera classics to jazz, rock music and urban folklore. Within the framework of the new phenomenon, all kinds of performance options coexist: a cappella (that is, without accompaniment), singing to instrumental accompaniment, show performances that combine vocals with elements of the author's choreography.

Turetsky Choir - With you forever

The new style, in which the Turetsky Choir works, is partly determined by the concept of classical crossover (a synthesis of elements of pop, rock and electronic music), however, in the creative activity of the art group there are tendencies that go beyond this concept: polyphonic singing and voice imitation musical instruments, interactivity and the introduction of happening elements (for example, public participation in a dance and song program). Thus, each concert number turns into a "mini-musical", and the concert - into an outstanding show in its energy. The repertoire of the "Turetsky Choir" still includes the masterpieces of classical music in their original form. Mikhail himself not only sings, but also brilliantly leads and directs his own show. Today the team has no analogues in the whole world.

Since 2004, the "Turetsky Choir" has embarked on a wide concert activity, begins its secular life and is experiencing a meteoric rise in its pop career, which is accompanied by many awards and a constant increase in the number of fans. The team performs at the best concert venues in the country and the world. Among them: SC "Olympic" (Moscow) and Ice Palace (St. Petersburg), Big Concert Hall "October" (St. Petersburg), Albert Hall (England), the largest halls in the United States - Carnegie Hall (New York), Dolby Theater (Los Angeles), Jordan Hall (Boston).

In 2005, for the 15th anniversary of the team, Mikhail Turetsky wrote an autobiography "Choirmaster"- about his life, work and colleagues in the choir.

In 2008, the "Turetsky Choir" gathered four sold-out houses in the State Kremlin Palace, and at the request of the audience gave an additional sold-out fifth concert at the Luzhniki Sports Palace, which set a kind of record.

Despite the fact that the collective has existed for many years, its backbone is still made up of musicians with whom M. Turetsky is familiar and friendly from his student years or from the moment the choir was formed.

In 2010, he established a new project - female - called "SOPRANO"... This is a unique project, which is subject to the works of world musical culture of any complexity, was created over the course of two years. Hundreds of applicants fought for the right to sing in the collective, and as a result of several castings, the best of the best remained in the project. All existing female singing voices are represented in SOPRANO: from the highest (coloratura soprano) to the lowest (mezzo). Each soloist presents her own style of singing: from academic to folklore and pop-jazz. In one concert of the art group "SOPRANO Turetsky" classical and rock, jazz and disco, fashionable modern music and retro hits sound. Over the past year, the collective has made a powerful leap towards the author's songs and achieved high performance.

With their compositions, the girls performed at the festivals "Song of the Year", "New Wave", "Slavyansky Bazar", "Five Stars". The professional biography of the project includes annual touring tours in Russia and abroad (USA, Canada, Switzerland, Israel, etc.).

Personal life of Mikhail Turetsky:

The first wife is Elena, his classmate at the Gnesins Institute. They got married against the will of their parents in 1984. In the same 1984, their daughter Natalya was born.

His wife Elena died tragically in an accident. In August 1989, together with his friend and teacher Vladimir Semenyuk, Turetsky went to Klaipeda. At night, the musician received a telegram from his elder brother with the words “Call urgently. Sasha". The next morning, Mikhail learned about a terrible tragedy: on the Minsk-Moscow highway, his father-in-law, wife and her brother were killed in a car accident.

He recalled: “The father of my first wife had been driving with her and her brother from Lithuania since the birthday of my sister. collided with a truck. Head-on. And instant death. All three. "

In 2001, he had an illegitimate daughter, Isabelle (Bella), who lives with her mother Tatyana Borodovskaya in Germany. They met in 2000, when Mikhail and his choir were on tour in Germany. During a concert in Frankfurt, he saw an incredibly beautiful woman in the front row and, shocked by her appearance, jumped off the stage and invited the lady to dance. Then he asked for a phone number. So began their short romance, from which a daughter was born in December 2001. Bella inherited not only the appearance of her famous father, but also his musicality - playing the violin.

Tatiana Borodovskaya - mother of the illegitimate daughter of Mikhail Turetsky

The second wife is Liana, she is Armenian. The story of Mikhail and Liana began in 2001 during the Turetsky Choir's tour of America. Liana's father received an offer to organize a concert of the group. It was love at first sight. Four months of most of the telephone communication was enough for Liana to exchange the comfortable American life for an unusual life for her in Russia. Liana at the time of their acquaintance was a woman with a five-year-old child - she had a daughter. Mikhail Turetsky said: "And I saw in her, first of all, a caring mother. Later, when we had more daughters, this opinion only strengthened. For my wife, children always come first, and I accepted it."

The couple had two daughters: Emmanuelle (born in 2005) and Beata (born in 2009).

In 2014, Mikhail became a grandfather: Natalia had a son, Ivan Gilevich. And in 2016, Natalya gave birth to his granddaughter Elena.

The eldest daughter of Turetsky Natalya is a lawyer who works in the office of the Turetsky Choir. Sarina graduated from MGIMO, Faculty of International Journalism, works as a music producer.

How strongly does personal life affect creativity, and how much does creativity affect personal life? It is difficult to answer unequivocally, but no one dares to deny this relationship. A striking example of an affirmation is writers who use elements of autobiography in their novels, and musicians who find life partners for themselves during rehearsals or performances. Among the latter is Mikhail Borisovich Turetsky.

Childhood and youth

The future musician and conductor was born on April 12, 1962. It happened in Moscow. Boris Borisovich Epstein - the boy's father - tried to dissuade his wife from giving birth to her second child in every possible way, arguing this by difficult times, middle age and painful first-born Alexander. But his wife Bella Semyonovna insisted on her decision. So little Misha Turetsky (this is his real surname from his mother, not a pseudonym) and was born.

Misha's parents spent their days at work, and the boy was raised by his brother, who was fifteen years older. However, Sasha was not happy with such an occupation, so he often left Misha with the radio or TV turned on. Later, the parents found out about this, but did not punish Sasha, because they noticed how easily their youngest son sings along to the songs that sound on the air. The hit was Lilac Mist.

Mikhail Turetsky as a child with his parents

Boris Borisovich worked as a workshop foreman, and Bella Semyonovna worked as a kindergarten teacher. They received little, but over time they managed to save money in order to buy another room in a communal apartment near the Belorusskaya metro station, where they lived, and also to buy an old piano. This was done so that Misha could study with an invited music teacher. Six months later, the tutor refused to continue his studies, saying that the baby had no hearing.

Such a statement upset the parents, but Misha managed to convince them to give him another chance. So he entered a music school for a piccolo flute course, because learning on this instrument was the cheapest option.

In 1973, an important event happened for the boy. A cousin, whom Boris Borisovich saw extremely rarely, came to visit his father. This cousin's name was Rudolf Barshai, and he was a world-renowned viola player and conductor. Upon learning that Misha is studying at a music school and also sings well, Barshai asked him to perform something. Delighted with the boy's vocal, through friends Rudolf Borisovich managed to attach Misha to the Alexander Vasilyevich Sveshnikov Choir School.

After graduating from college, Mikhail entered the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music, from which he graduated in 1985 with honors. By this time, the guy had already managed to get married, have a daughter, and also take part in several major performances under the leadership of Mravinsky and Sherling.

Music

After graduation, Mikhail stayed at the Academy of Music for postgraduate studies. While practicing at rehearsals of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Society and at the Theater of Musical Art, the guy is forced to earn money as a bombila in an old Zhiguli and as a loader in a supermarket in order to somehow feed his family. But even hard everyday life does not distract Turetsky from thinking about his own musical project.

In 1987 Mikhail collaborated with the church choir and the political song ensemble. This work helps to formulate the basic principles of the future project. In 1989, Mikhail announces the recruitment of soloists for the male choir of the capital's choir synagogue (Turkish nationality is a Jew). The idea is original: to revive the Jewish sacred music in the vastness of the Soviet Union.

Having compiled and rehearsed a program that included Jewish liturgical songs, the choir performs at home and abroad - in Israel, Germany, France and Great Britain. During a performance with Vladimir Semenyuk in Lithuania, Mikhail Turetsky receives terrible news from home - his wife Elena crashed with her father and brother on the 71 kilometer of the Minsk-Moscow highway. They were returning from a relative's birthday celebration.

This news ends the tour. Mikhail becomes depressed. Zoya Ivanovna - the mother of the deceased Elena - is trying to help Turetsky, and also offers to arrange custody of the daughter of Mikhail and Elena for herself. Turkish rejects this option. Instead, he takes his daughter Natasha and goes on a two-year contract to America.

Having got acquainted with the world of American show business, Mikhail and his choir decide to change the repertoire and format of performances, adding more spectacles, more colors and more dynamics. In many ways, this was facilitated by the numerous Broadway musicals, which Mikhail and his daughter loved so much to attend. In 1994 and 1995 Turetsky was awarded the "Golden Crown of World Cantors".

With an updated program and a fully formed team, the art group "Turetsky Choir" returns to the national stage in 1997, during a joint tour with Joseph Kobzon. The audience accepts the new format with a bang. From 1999 to 2002 the choir has performed with the performance "Mikhail Turetsky's Vocal Show" at the Moscow State Variety Theater. In 2002, Mikhail was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation.

In 2003 the collective is finally formed: 10 soloists with voices from bass-profundo to tenor-altino. The repertoire goes beyond the national Jewish culture. Critics give a new name to the style that characterizes the manner in which the songs are performed by the Turetsky Choir - a classic crossover.

The next year, the choir thunders at major concert venues in the world: the Olympic Sports Complex and the Ice Palace at home, as well as the Albert Hall, George Hall and Carnegie Hall abroad. In 2005, Mikhail publishes an autobiography, in which he shares his personal history and the secrets of the Turetsky Choir. In 2008, there was a furor - 4 sold out houses in the State Kremlin Palace. But even this is not enough for Mikhail.

In 2010, as a producer, he created a new project - "SOPRANO", which became the female version of the "Turetsky Choir". The girls from SOPRANO quickly gained popularity, performing at festivals such as Slavianski Bazaar, New Wave and Song of the Year. In the same year, Mikhail received the title of People's Artist of the Russian Federation and the Order of Honor.

Personal life

In 1984, Mikhail married for the first time. His classmate Elena became his chosen one. In the same year, the couple had a daughter, whom it was decided to call Natasha. In 1989, Elena with her brother and father had an accident and died. Mikhail and his daughter left for the USA.

In America, the girl liked it - she even performed on stage, but her father managed to convince her to abandon the idea of connecting her career with the stage, arguing that this would completely deprive the girl of her personal life. Today Natasha works as a lawyer in the office of the Turetsky Choir. In 2014, her son Ivan was born, and in 2016, her daughter Elena.

However, there were other women in Mikhail's life. In 2001, his illegitimate daughter Isabelle was born from a short romance with Tatyana Borodovskaya.

A year later, Turetsky's second wedding took place. His wife was an Armenian woman Liana, whom Mikhail met during a tour to the United States, organized by the girl's father. Like Mikhail, Liana already had one child - a daughter, Sarina. Nevertheless, the couple decided to have joint children - daughters Emmanuelle in 2005 and Beata in 2009.

Mikhail Turetsky now

The guys from the Turetsky Choir (and Mikhail Borisovich himself in particular) are still workaholics. For a year they manage to hold more than 200 performances - not everyone can boast of that. It is surprising how artists still manage to publish photos on their Instagram account.

In 2017, Mikhail managed to find time for significant events. The first was the wedding of the daughter of Sarina and Tornik Tsertsvadze. The second is the awarding of the Order of Friendship for the development of culture.

In 1989, a graduate of the Institute. Gnesins Mikhail Turetsky was sent to organize a male choir at the Moscow Choral Synagogue. Mikhail Turetsky gathered a group of like-minded people who wanted to engage in the revival of Jewish sacred music in the USSR (all members of the choir had a musical education, were graduates or students of musical educational institutions). This direction practically did not develop during the Soviet period. An exception was a concert in 1945 in the Moscow synagogue of tenor Mikhail Alexandrovich. The first rehearsals of the choir took place in September 1989, and the first public performance in the spring of 1990. The first tours took place in Kaliningrad and Tallinn. In the same year, concerts were held in Leningrad (large hall of the conservatory) and in Moscow (in the synagogue). During this period, the collective was financed by the American charitable organization "Joint" (known for its anti-Semitic campaign against "cosmopolitans" and accusations in the "Doctors' Plot" in 1949-1952).
In 1991 the ensemble toured France and Great Britain. The collective performed under the name "Jewish Chamber Choir". The tour aroused great interest, since for the first time such a group arrived from the USSR. In 15 days, 17 concerts were given. In the summer of the same year, the choir went on tour to Israel. The performance at the synagogue in Jerusalem showed that the choir had an insufficient repertoire, but the sound was much better than that of the cantor and the choir from this synagogue. In 1991 Marina Kovalyova, President of the People Travel Club travel company, accidentally heard a choir rehearsal at the Shannon airport in Dublin. This company has sponsored the choir for several years. After a month and a half touring the United States, the band wanted to move their performances from the synagogue to concert venues. However, this desire did not find support from sponsors from the Joint. An "alternative" choir was created at the Moscow synagogue. However, not a single soloist from the choir of Mikhail Turetsky moved to the newly formed collective. In 1993, Mikhail Turetsky was awarded the "Golden Crown of World Cantors" by the American Association of Musical Art (only 8 people in the world have been awarded this distinction). With the help of Marina Kovaleva, in 1995-1996, the Jewish choir under the direction of Mikhail Turetsky sang in a synagogue in Miami. Some of the choir members remained in the United States, the other part remains in Moscow. By this time, almost all modern soloists had already appeared in the choir (with the exception of Boris Goryachev and Igor Zverev).
An interesting fact: during a tour in Chechnya (after the first Chechen war), the then Deputy Prime Minister Shamil Basayev, at that time the most famous terrorist in the world, was responsible for the safety of the artists (Kobzon and the choir). After the end of the joint tour with Kobzon in the cities of Russia, in March 1998 a concert was given in the Great Hall of the Conservatory in Moscow. The concert took place on Saturday, a day forbidden in Judaism for any work. For this reason, a conflict arose with the chief rabbi of the Moscow choral synagogue. The choir was forbidden to perform within the walls of the synagogue. The team found support from the Mayor of Moscow, Yuri Mikhailovich Luzhkov. The choir became municipal. 1997 - 1999 kollekiv performed under the name "Moscow Jewish Choir". During this period, the repertoire also begins to change. Along with traditional religious works, there are classical opera arias, works by Soviet and foreign composers, author's songs and courtyard songs (for example, "Murka"). In 2000 the choir performed on the stage of the Variety Theater. With the help of the oligarch Vladimir Gusinsky, who was at that time the head of the Russian Jewish Congress, the choir again got the opportunity to perform in the Moscow choral synagogue. In 2000-2001. toured with Kobzon in Israel, and independent tours in the USA, Australia, Germany and Israel.
In 2002, Mikhail Turetsky was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Russia.
In 2003 the choir acquired its modern name: the Art Group "Turetsky Choir". This happened during a concert dedicated to the Day of Ukraine and Russia. The repertoire of the collective is also changing. Jewish liturgy (for example, "Kadish" or "Kol Nidrei", songs in Yiddish and Hebrew make up an essential, but not the main part of the program. There are works of Western and Russian pop music, urban folklore (for example, "Murka"), opera arias, Orthodox liturgy (for example, the prayer "Our Father") In his book "Chorus Master" Mikhail Turetsky wrote that he did not immediately find understanding of these changes among his colleagues in the collective, but gradually all the soloists agreed with the change in the repertoire. In the same year, several members of the choir (Apaykin, Kalan and Astafurov) left the band and two new soloists were accepted - Boris Goryachev and Igor Zverev.
In January 2004, a concert "Ten Voices that Shook the World" took place at the Rossiya State Central Concert Hall with the participation of Russian pop stars (Larisa Dolina, Nikolai Baskov, Philip Kirkorov, etc.). In November 2004, the concerts "When Men Sing" took place in Israel (Haifa and Tel Aviv). Shortly thereafter, in early December 2004, the concerts "When Men Sing" were held at the Kremlin Palace of Congresses with the participation of Emma Chapplan and Gloria Gaynor.
In January 2005 he toured the cities of the United States with the concert "When Men Sing" (San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlantic City, Boston and Chicago), and in 2005-2006. - tour with the program "Born to Sing" in the cities of the CIS.
