Andrey Makarevich will celebrate his 55th birthday with the release of the collection of songs "55", which was prepared by his friend and colleague in the group "Time Machine" Alexander Kutikov.

The Soviet and Russian rock group from among the pioneers of rock music of the USSR "Time Machine" was founded by Andrey Makarevich in 1969.

Back in 1968, Andrei Makarevich in the Moscow special school number 19, where he studied, created an ensemble with his classmates. The ensemble consisted of two guitarists (Andrei Makarevich himself and Mikhail Yashin) and two vocalists (Larisa Kashperko and Nina Baranova). The ensemble performed Anglo-American folk songs. Then Yuri Borzov and Igor Mazayev came to the class in which Makarevich studied. They also became part of the ensemble.

Soon, on the basis of the ensemble, a group was formed, which received the name "The Kids". It included Andrei Makarevich, Igor Mazayev, Yuri Borzov, Alexander Ivanov and Pavel Ruben. Another member of the group was Borzov's childhood friend Sergei Kawagoe, at whose insistence the girls were excluded from "The Kids". In 1969 the group became known as "Time Machine", in 1973 the name of the group was changed to the singular - "Time Machine".

In 1971, Alexander Kutikov appeared in the group, under whose influence the group's repertoire was replenished with the songs "The Seller of Happiness", "The Soldier", etc.

At the same time, the first concert of "Time Machine" took place on the stage of the House of Culture "Energetik" - the cradle of Moscow rock.

In the first years of the group's existence, the collective was amateur, and its composition was unstable. In 1972, Igor Mazayev was drafted into the army, and soon Yuri Borzov, the drummer of "Machine", left. Kutikov brought Max Kapitanovsky to the group, but soon he was drafted into the army. The drummer was Sergei Kawagoe. Later, Igor Saulsky joined the line-up, who left the group several times and returned again.

In the spring of 1973, Kutikov left the Time Machine for the Leap Summer group. A year later, he returned, and until the summer of 1975 the group played with Makarevich - Kutikov - Kawagoe - Alexey Romanov. In 1975, Romanov left the group, and Kutikov went to the Tula State Philharmonic.

At the same time, Evgeny Margulis appeared in the group, and a little later the violinist Nikolai Larin. For a year and a half, at least 15 musicians have passed through the group, among whom were drummers Yuri Fokin and Mikhail Sokolov, guitarists Alex "White" Belov, Alexander Mikoyan and Igor Degtyaryuk, violinist Igor Saulsky and many others.

At the beginning of their concert activity, the group performed cover versions of The Beatles songs and their own songs in English, written in imitation.

In 1977, the group was joined by musicians playing wind instruments - Evgeny Legusov and Sergei Velitsky.

In 1978 the band recorded their debut album "It was so long ago ..." and the audio tale "The Little Prince" based on the tale of Antoine de Saint-Exupery.

In the summer of 1979, "Time Machine" broke up: Kawagoe and Margulis, having gathered old friends, formed the group "Resurrection", and in the fall of the same year, Makarevich brought on the stage a new composition of MV: Alexander Kutikov - bass, vocals; Valery Efremov - drums, Petr Podgorodetsky - keyboards, vocals. They prepared a new repertoire, went to work at the Moscow Regional Comedy Theater, and in March 1980 they became the main sensation and laureate of the All-Union Rock Festival "Spring Rhythms-80" in Tbilisi.

"The Time Machine" gained all-Union fame, it began to be invited to television (the "Musical Ring" program), radio, the songs "Turn", "Candle", "Three Windows", written back in the 1970s, became popular.

The touring and concert association Rosconcert signed an agreement with the group, and in the early 1980s the rock group toured extensively throughout the cities of the USSR.

In the spring of 1982, a campaign was launched against the group, inspired by the article "Bluebird Stew" in "Komsomolskaya Pravda". The first album on "Melodies" never came out, the MV program was corrected and revised several times by countless artistic councils. Pyotr Podgorodetsky left the "Time Machine", joining the troupe of Joseph Kobzon. Alexander Zaitsev took the place of Podgorodetsky.

In 1986, with the change in the entire cultural policy of the country, the group got the opportunity to work normally. New programs "Rivers and Bridges" and "In the Circle of Light" were prepared, which served as the basis for the records of the same name. A retrospective disc "10 Years Later" was also released, on which Makarevich tried to restore the band's sound and repertoire of the mid-1970s.

In 1987 "Time Machine" made its first tour abroad.

In the summer of 1989, Alexander Zaitsev left the MV; Evgeny Margulis and Petr Podgorodetsky returned to the group. The MV repertoire again includes songs from the "classical" repertoire of the past.

In the 1990s, seven albums of the group were released, the most popular of which were "Freelance Earth Commander", "Breaking Away", "Cardboard Wings of Love" and "Clock and Signs". Among the most famous songs of this period - "One day the world will bend under us", a video for which was broadcast on Russian TV channels.

The group was awarded the Order of Honor "for services in the development of musical art"; in December 1999, a triumphant concert of MV took place in the Olimpiyskiy Sports Complex, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the group. The day after the concert, changes took place in the group: keyboardist Pyotr Podgorodetsky was fired, and Andrei Derzhavin took his place.

In 2004 "Time Machine" celebrated its 35th anniversary. On May 30, a concert of the group took place on Red Square. In the autumn of the same year, the Anthology "Time Machine" was released, which included 19 albums of the group for 35 years and a DVD collection of 22 clips. On November 25, 2004, the new album "Mechanically" was released.

In 2005 the Mashina Vremeni and Resurrection groups prepared and showed the program "50 for Two", in 2006 two legendary Moscow groups returned to joint concerts and presented a new program "Handmade Music" at the State Kremlin Palace.

In 2007, the band's last album, Time Machine, was released, recorded at the London studio "Abbey Road" (Abbey Road).

The "Time Machine" group is dedicated to documentaries "Rock-Cult", "Rock and Fortune", "Six Letters about the Beat". The group itself took part in the soundtracks for many films, and in some the members of the group even starred themselves: "Soul" (1981), "Speed" (1983), "Start over" (1986), "Dancer" (2004), "Day elections "(2007)," Loser "(2007).

The modern composition of the group includes: Andrei Makarevich - author, vocals, guitars, Alexander Kutikov - author of music, producer, bass guitar, vocals (1971-1974, since 1979), Evgeny Margulis - author, guitars, bass guitar (1975- 1979, from 1989), Valery Efremov - drums, percussion (since 1979), Andrey Derzhavin - author, keyboards, vocals (since 1999).

We bring to your attention some interesting facts about the famous group.

1. The group began to form within the walls of the Moscow school number 19 in 1968. Under the name The Kids, two guitarists - Andrei Makarevich, Mikhail Yashin and two vocalists - Larisa Kashperko, Nina Baranova performed with English folk songs at school amateur evenings. Some records have survived to this day and are included in the collection "Time Machines" "Unpublished".

2. Once VIA "Atlanty" came to school №19, and during a break the head of the ensemble allowed The Kids participants to play several of their compositions on "professional" equipment and even played along with his bass guitar. The schoolchildren were very impressed by the performance and renewed the line-up of the group. Andrey Makarevich (guitar, vocals), Igor Mazaev (bass guitar), Yuri Borzov (drums), Alexander Ivanov (rhythm guitar), Pavel Ruben (bass guitar) and Sergey Kawagoe (keyboards) performed under a new name - Time Machines ...

3. Earlier Makarevich saw the bass guitar only in photographs with McCartney and did not understand at all why it was needed. During the performance of "Atlantis" Makarevich heard the instrument "live" and was fired up with the idea to master it, but in those years the bass guitar was a rarity, it was almost impossible to find it. The young man bought a regular acoustic one and changed the strings from the cello to it. Then he found out that at one time McCartney secretly pulled bass strings from a school piano.

4. After several concerts Time Machines released their first magnetic album, which included 11 songs in English. The album was recorded in an ordinary apartment: in one of the rooms in the center there was a tape recorder with a microphone connected to it. The band members took turns coming up to the tape recorder and performing their parts.

5. The composition of the group at the beginning of the 70s was constantly renewed. Only Makarevich, Kutikov and Kawagoe were unchanged participants. Once one of the participants in the "Time Machine" was Alexei Romanov - the future founder of the "Resurrection" group. In the entire history of the group, this was the only "freed vocalist".

6. The first official mention of the "Time Machine" group appeared in 1973 on a vinyl disc with a recording of the vocal trio "Zodiac" accompanied by the group. In 1973, the name was changed to the only number - "Time Machine", which remains to this day.

7. In 1974, the "machinists" were invited to shoot the film "Afonya" by Georgy Danelia. The director wanted to show the usual "street" musicians of the time. In the final version of the film, almost all of the band's footage was cut. "Time Machine" flashes in the frame for only a few seconds, performing the song "You or Me". The group "Araks" was filmed as a performing group on the stage. For the shooting, the "machinists" received the first official fee, which was 600 rubles. It was immediately spent on the purchase of a tape recorder.

8. Having performed in 1976 at the Tallinn Songs of Youth festival in Estonia and won the first prize, the Time Machine is becoming popular.

9. A good quality semi-legal recording of most of the band's songs appeared in the summer of 1978. The record was recorded at night in the speech studio of GITIS. This recording was the beginning of the band's creativity spread throughout the country. The album with these songs officially appeared only in 1992 and was called "It was a long time ago ...".

10. The first official album "Time Machine" "Good Hour" was released by the "Melodiya" company in 1986.

11. In the mid-eighties, the band went on a joint tour of Russia with the group "Nautilus Pompilius". At one of the concerts, when "Nautilus Pompilius" performed "Bound by One Chain", the participants of the "Time Machine" walked across the stage with a real rusty metal chain on their shoulders, posing as barge haulers. The musicians of "Nau" stopped playing in amazement, and only Butusov continued to perform the song in complete silence (he had a habit of singing with his eyes closed). After some time, the incident was forgotten, and the participants of the "Nautilus" similarly made fun of the "Time Machine". During the performance of the song "Caravan", the Bedouins suddenly appeared on the stage. They sifted from one wing to the next, danced and clapped in the Arabic manner. The Time Machine musicians were amazed, and the audience felt that it was intended.

Several times in my life I have had the same dream. Its essence was that I had to get somewhere where they were waiting for me. On the way, there were various everyday difficulties, I lingered here and there and as a result I was late, but somehow very much - say, for the whole day - and came when no one was already gone, the lights were out, the chairs were turned over and the cleaning lady washes the floor. I don't know why, but I have never experienced a more acute sense of loss afterwards.

A.V. Makarevich.

In 1968, Andrei Makarevich and his classmates organized an amateur rock group "The Kids". In 1969 it was renamed "Time Machines" and the songs were sung in English. In 1973, the name was changed to the only number - "Time Machine", which remains to this day.

Having performed in 1976 at the Tallinn Youth Songs - 76 festival in Estonia and won the first prize, The Time Machine is becoming popular.

In the 1980s, the group gains all-Union popularity. "The Time Machine" is allowed on television (the "Musical Ring" program), radio, the songs "Povorot", "Candle", "Three Windows", written in the 1970s, are becoming popular. "Povorot" for 18 months tops the hit parade of "Sound Track" of Moskovsky Komsomolets. "The Time Machine" takes part in the filming of the musical film "Soul" with Sofia Rotaru in the title role.

The rock group is actively touring the cities of the USSR. Hits "Skachki", "Blue Bird", "Puppets" sound in restaurants and at weddings. The band's underground magnetic albums are being sold in large circulations.

In the "Time Machine" in different years such musicians as Alexander Kutikov, Evgeny Margulis, Pyotr Podgorodetsky and others became famous. Due to the large number of composers, the band's musical style is eclectic. In their work, the musicians use elements of classical rock, rock and roll, blues, bard songs.

The Time Machine received official recognition in post-perestroika Russia. In 1991, during the GKChP putsch, all five "machinists" took part in the defense of the White House, for which they were subsequently awarded the "Defender of Free Russia" medals. In 1999, the musicians also received the "Order of Honor", and in 2003 - "For Services to the Fatherland" IV degree.

The ensemble, which was destined to go down in history as the "Time Machine", had not been called at all before, but it consisted of 2 guitars (Andrey Makarevich and Mikhail Yashin), and two girls (Larisa Kashperko and Nina Baranova) who sang in English. American folk songs.

It really all started in 1968, when Andrei Makarevich first heard "The Beatles". Then two new guys came to their class: Yura Borzov and Igor Mazaev, who joined the newly-minted group "The Kids". The first composition of the group "The Kids" was approximately as follows: Andrei Makarevich, Igor Mazayev, Yuri Borzov, Alexander Ivanov and Pavel Ruben. Another was Borzov's childhood friend, Sergei Kawagoe, at whose insistence the singing girls were fired. After some time, the first album of the "Time Machine" group was recorded (originally planned as "Time Machines", that is, in the plural). The album consisted of eleven songs in English. The recording technique was not difficult - in the center of the room there was a tape recorder with a microphone, and in front of it the members of the group. Alas, now this legendary record has been lost.

1971 Alexander Kutikov appears in the group, who brought the spirit of major, cloudless rock and roll to the team. Under his influence, the group's repertoire was replenished with joyful songs "The Seller of Happiness", "The Soldier", etc. At the same time, the first concert of the "Time Machine" took place on the stage of the "Energetik" recreation center - the cradle of Moscow rock.

1972 year. The first troubles begin. Igor Mazayev is taken into the army, and soon Yura Borzov, who was the drummer in the group, leaves. The cheerful Kutikov brings Max Kapitanovsky to the group, but soon he is also taken into the army. And then Sergei Kawagoe sits down at the drums. Later, Igor Saulsky joins the line-up, who left the group and returned so many times.
again, it is simply impossible to determine exactly when he was in the line-up and when he was not.

1973 year. Small frictions arise between Kawagoe and Kutikov every now and then. In the end, this leads to the fact that in the spring Kutikov goes to the Leap Summer group.

1974 year. Sergei Kavagoe brings Igor Degtyaryuk to the group, who stayed in the lineup for about six months, and then left, it seems, to Arsenal. Kutikov returned from "Leap Summer", and for some time the group played in the composition: Makarevich - Kutikov - Kawagoe - Alexey Romanov. This lasted until the summer of 1975.

1975 year. Romanov leaves the group, and in the summer Kutikov also unexpectedly leaves, and not just anywhere, but to the Tula State Philharmonic. At the same time, Evgeny Margulis appears in the group, and a little later the violinist Kolya Larin.

1976 year."Machine of Time" is invited to Talin for the festival "Tallinn Songs of Youth-76", where they perform brilliantly, and where they first meet Boris Grebenshchikov and the group "Aquarium", which was at that time a lovely acoustic quartet. Grebenshchikov invites them to St. Petersburg. Their concerts are wildly popular. The violinist Kolya Larin is no longer in the line-up, and his place is taken by a certain Seryozha Ostashev, who also did not stay long. At the same time, Yura Ilyichenko, the soloist of "Myths", joined the group.

1977 year. Ilyichenko, yearning for his hometown, leaves for St. Petersburg, and the "Time Machine" remains the three of them for a short time. And then it occurs to Andrey to introduce a brass section into the group, and thus a brass section appears in the group: Evgeny Legusov and Sergey Velitsky.

1978 year. The composition is replaced. Sergei Kuzminki joined the team instead of Velitsky. In the same year, the first studio recording of "Time Machine" takes place. Kutikov, who by that time played in the "Leap Summer", got a job in the educational speech studio of GITIS in order to use the studio as intended. Andrei Makarevich turns to him, Kutikov promises to arrange everything, and a few days later the recording begins, known to us as "It was so long ago ...". It lasted a whole week, and it included almost all (at that time) songs of the "Time Machine", with the exception of the first early ones. The recording was excellent, and within a month it sounded everywhere. It is a pity that the original has been lost, but what we are listening to today is a copy that happened to be in the possession of one of Andrey's acquaintances. In the fall "Time Machine" parted with pipes, and a synthesizer in the person of Sasha Voronov entered the group, albeit not for long.

1979 year. There is a collapse in the group. Sergei Kavagoe and Evgeny Margulis leave for "Resurrection". At the same time, Kutikov returned to the group, who brought Efremov with him, and a little later Petya Podgorodetsky joined the group. "Machine of Time" begins to rehearse with a new line-up, and the group's repertoire is replenished with such things as "Candle", "Whom did you want to surprise", "Crystal City", "Turn". In the same year "Time Machine" became a group of the Moscow touring comedy theater at Rosconcert.

1980 year. The Time Machine is already very popular, and its name on the theater's posters is a guarantee that tickets will be sold out. The playbill of the theater looked like this: very large at the top - "The Time Machine Ensemble", and further small, on the verge of intelligibility - "In the play of the Moscow Comedy Theater" Windsor Ridiculous "based on the play by V. Shakespeare." The only problem is that the audience walking on the inscription "Time Machine", they really could see their favorite band, which sang completely unknown songs on the verge of intelligibility. It was not exactly what the audience expected to see, but this did not bother the management of the theater, which received huge profits. And then Rosconcert decided that it would be much more profitable to use "Machine" to its fullest. After a successful listening "Time Machine" becomes an independent professional rock group. At the same time, the famous festival in Tbilisi - "Spring Rhythms-80" took place. Vremeni Machine shares first place with Magnetic Band

1981 year. A hit parade appears in the newspaper "Moskovsky Komsomolets", and the song "Pivot" is declared the song of the year. She held out in first place with a total of 18 months. All this time the group had no right to perform it at concerts, because it was not filled, and it was not filled because Rosconcert did not send it to LIT, as it had doubts about which turn was meant. The fact that "Povorot" sounded five times a day on "Radio Mosow" did not bother anyone.

1982 year. The newspaper "Komsomolskaya Pravda" burst into the group with the article "Stew from a blue bird." In response, the editorial board was littered with sacks of letters under the general motto “Hands off the Machine.” The newspaper, which did not expect such a rebuff, had to reduce everything to a general toothless polemic - the case, they say, is young, and opinions can be different. "coincided with another split in the group. Petya Podgorodetsky leaves. After a while, Sergei Ryzhenko offers himself, and a little later Alexander Zaitsev joins the lineup.

1983 year. Sergei Ryzhenko, who had to play supporting roles, leaves, and the "Time Machine" remains the four of us.

In general, this time is characterized by Andrei Makarveich himself, a time of relative calm. Although, to say that the group did nothing at all would be untrue. Perhaps, from about this period, it began to take shape. as a professional, sustainable team.

1985 year. Recorded magnetic album "Fish in a Bank" (mini-album), the group is working on recording music for the movie "Speed" (directed by D. Svetozarov).

In the same year "MV" takes part in the cultural program of the XII World Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow.

The second magnetic album of acoustic songs by Andrey Makarevich was recorded

The group participates in the filming of the film "Start over" (directed by A. Stefanovich) One point of clarification: indeed, the group, and not only Andrei Makarevich, starred in this film. Though. of course, AM played the main role.

1986 year The movie "Start Over" comes out on the wide screen. A new concert program "Rivers and Bridges" is being prepared, and the recording of the double album "Rivers and Bridges" at the Melodiya company is taking place almost simultaneously. In the same year, positive shifts began in relation to "MV" on television. The group participates in the TV shows "Merry Guys", "Song-86" and "What, Where, When?" (performed: "Dedication to the Cow", "The Song That Doesn't exist" and "Music under the Snow") The group also takes part in the festival of popular music Rock-Panorama-86 (Moscow), after which. very promptly for those times, a giant disc "Rock-Panorama-86" with the songs "Music under the Snow", "Good Hour" ("Melody") was released. On another disc of the giant "Happy New Year!", The song "Fish in a Bank" ("Melody") appears. Participation in the filming of the film "I am returning your portrait". And, finally, a disc-mignon with two songs "Fish in a Bank" and "Two White Snows" (Yu. Saulsky, I. Zavalnyuk) is released. Yuri Saulsky (as you know, who helped the group in the "difficult" years).

1987 year. The group takes part in the New Year's "Blue Light -87" and the TV program "Morning Mail" with the song "Where there will be a new day". "MV" was once again invited to the TV program "Musical Ring" (Leningradskoye TV, hosted by T. Maksimova), in which she played brilliantly. The program was then broadcast on Central Television. Concerts are held at the Druzhba Sports Center together with the Secret group, and are shown on Central Television. Attention! Alexander Kutikov: "The Protracted Turn" is a completely author's book. But at the same time it will be called "Biography of the Time Machine".

The current and former "machinists" took up their memoirs early, and I think the fans of "MV" have already formed a certain retrospective library. It can include not only the writings of Andrei Makarevich, Maksim Kapitanovsky, Pyotr Podgorodetsky, but also a lot of memories of people wandering on the Internet and in the printed press who at different periods were somehow involved in the group.

However, the "Machine" goes and goes. Four decades! And her story is expanding and reinterpreted. No one has succeeded in such a long-range and hyper-successful flight in Russian rock music and is unlikely to succeed in the foreseeable future. This fact alone makes the Time Machine unique in our Palestinians. Having started as Soviet "Beatles", Makar and his comrades have now turned into Russian "Rollings", at least from a chronological and status point of view.

It often happens that the name of an artist or a musical group becomes for millions of people a symbol of the era they lived - it is so closely intertwined with their personal memories that it becomes their integral part. For many of today's Russians, and especially for those whose youth fell in the seventies and eighties, this is undoubtedly the Time Machine group. The composition, photo and description of the creative path of the legendary team will be the topic of our article.

How it all began

It all started back in 1968, when the students of the Moscow school number 19 created a rock group called The Kids. Today's old people remember well that in those days it was rarely possible to find a school that did not have its own vocal and instrumental ensemble. This fashion was a tribute to the general fascination with the songs of the then Western idols of the Beatles, and other inhabitants of the musical Olympus.

From English the name of the group could be translated in different ways - "kids", "guys" and even "kids". So, the first line-up of these "kids-kids" included: Andrey Makarevich, his friend Mikhail Yashin and two girls-vocalists - Larisa Kashpero and Nina Baranova. Imitating their idols, the group, without much success, performed with an English-language repertoire at various school evenings and amateur concerts. Looking ahead, it should be said that the composition of the Time Machine group will change many times over the years.

English version of the group name

Fate gave them a chance, when in the same year a professional VIA Atlanty performed at their school, and its leader A. Sikorsky communicated with young musicians on equal terms and even played with them during a break. This evening helped the children to believe in themselves. The very next year they are creating a new team, which includes their peers from the neighboring school number 20 - the same Beatles fans, like themselves. The path began.

The name of the group was taken, as in the first case, in English - Time Machines, the prototype of the future "Time Machine", but in the plural. The first composition of the "Time Machine" was purely male. It included: Andrei Makarevich (guitar, vocals) - he will be an invariable member of all subsequent bands, Igor Mazaev (bass guitar), (rhythm guitar), Sergey Kavagoe (keyboards), Pavel Rubin (bass guitar) and drummer Yuri Borzov. Of these, in the main, the future composition of the "Time Machine" will be formed.

Failed architects

In the same 1969, the first recording of Time Machines' songs took place, performing mainly with a repertoire composed of cover versions of hits by American and English bands, supplemented by English-language compositions of their own composition. Only after a while he began to write lyrics in Russian. There is no doubt that during this period the musicians were under the influence of the hippie movement, which was popular among Western and Soviet youth. This was reflected in their songs and in their entire lifestyle.

The seventies begin for two members of the group, Andrei Makarevich and Yuri Borzov, with an important event - they enter the Moscow Architectural Institute, where, learning the secrets of architecture, they continue their music lessons. They also met Alexei Romanov, who was soon to become a member of the Time Machine, and a little later - with A. Kutikov, who in 1971 was invited to the group to replace I. Mazayev, who had gone to the army.

The official appearance of the group name

At the beginning of the seventies, the collective continued to be an amateur, and its composition changed several times. During these years, Time Machines successfully performed in the beat club, then created in Moscow under the patronage of the City Committee of the Komsomol. It is curious that a year earlier they were not admitted there due to their "low performing level". By the way, at the beginning of their career, the Beatles were denied the recording of songs for the same reason.

The Russian-speaking and familiar name of the group first appeared officially in 1973 and was forever assigned to the team. Until 1975, he went through a difficult period, performing on dance floors and occasional concerts. During this period, the composition of the "Time Machine" has changed several times. Fifteen musicians managed to visit this group. Problems arose in the life of the leader of the group A. Makarevich. Due to a conflict with the leadership of the architectural institute, he was expelled under a formal pretext.

Recognition of professionalism

The group's popularity grew rapidly when, after meeting Boris Grebenshchikov in 1976 at the Tallinn Festival, she got the opportunity to frequently tour in Leningrad. In the city on the Neva, she enjoyed constant success. The beginning of experiments with sound dates back to the same period. The composition of the "Time Machine" in 1977 was replenished by the saxophonist E. Legusov and the trumpeter S. Velitsky. This gave the songs in their performance a new expressiveness.

In 1980, having finally become a professional group, the group received official status with Rosconcert. O. Melik-Pashayev was appointed its artistic director, and A. Makarevich - as musical director. This year, the Time Machine awaited a tremendous success at the festival in Tbilisi, where it won the main prize, and thanks to which the first album released by the Melodiya firm appeared.

Creativity to live outside the ideological framework

Those whose youth passed under socialism remember how Soviet ideology, deceitful and hypocritical in its essence, filled all spheres of life, and mass art languished under its especially strict control. In order for viewers to see a new program, it had to receive approval from various authorities and artistic councils, where its fate was decided by people who did not understand anything in art and took into account only compliance with the requirements of the current party line.

The success of the "Time Machine" at the Tbilisi Festival is explained not only by the artistic merits of the performance of the compositions. This was, in fact, the first time when musicians appeared on the official Soviet stage, who stood out sharply from the general faceless, but ideologically consistent masses. No wonder the organizers of the concert, discouraged by their phenomenal success, took measures to ensure that the winning musicians left the festival even before it was over.

Triumph in the city on the Neva

In the eighties, the popularity of the group in Moscow and Leningrad took on an unprecedented scale. According to eyewitnesses, the excitement at their touring concerts was comparable only to the madness of the Beatlemania times. The Sports Palace, where the performances took place, was attacked by thousands of teenagers, and the musicians who were delivering were forced to resort to bypass maneuvers to save the Time Machine from the enthusiastic crowd. 1980 marked the beginning of their unprecedented takeoff.

The result of a twenty-year journey

At the beginning of the nineties, it is time to take stock of the first results. Ideological censorship no longer exists, and Andrei Makarevich publishes his book "Everything is very simple", in which he tells about everything that the group had to endure over the past twenty years. The Time Machine is still one of the most popular musical groups in the country. She takes part in many festivals and travels frequently with touring programs. Due to the fact that perestroika opened up the opportunity to freely travel abroad, the geography of their trips has expanded significantly, including many countries of the world.

The composition of the "Time Machine", by this moment basically already established and tested by time, is periodically replenished with invited musicians, including Pavel Rubin, Alik Mazaev and a number of other names well known to rock lovers. In the nineties, not a single New Year program and not a single noticeable festival can do without the participation of Andrei Makarevich and his team.

Group life in the difficult nineties

The group celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1994 with a grandiose concert on Red Square, in which many of the country's most popular musical groups took the stage with them. Their official position was largely strengthened due to the support they provided to Boris Yeltsin by participating in the 1996 “Vote or Lose” action, which became part of his election campaign.

At the beginning of the 2000s, the composition of the Time Machine group was replenished with keyboardist Andrei Derzhavin. Another stage begins in their history, which included a lot of work related to the search for new forms of sound and the use of various audio effects. At the same time, the collective does not stop concert activities and the release of discs, both at Russian studios and abroad. In particular, their albums are released by the famous English company Sintez Records, famous for the production of records for the Beatles.

Events of the last decade

Makarevich begins the second decade of the 21st century with the release of three of his new books, which quickly became popular among music lovers of all ages. In 2012, a film dedicated to them, directed by M. Kapitanovsky, appeared at the box office. It was called "The Taimashin: The Birth of an Era" - it is a literal repetition of how it was designated in 1983 in the black list of ideologically unreliable musical groups "Time Machine".

The composition of the group has changed many times over the entire history of its existence. 2012 was no exception. At the end of June, E. Margulis left it, giving preference to the development of his own project. Soon his place was taken by Igor Khomich, who had previously collaborated with the Kalinov Most group. In 2014, an anniversary charity concert was held with great success on the site in front of the Luzhniki sports complex, in which the Time Machine group also performed. The roster of 2014 did not change, and on its 45th anniversary, the team performed the most popular hits.

The troubles of our day

At the beginning of February 2015, fans of the group were alarmed by information that appeared in the press about an alleged split within the group, associated with the different positions of its members regarding the events in Ukraine. This information seemed quite likely, since recently political issues have become an exciting topic of discussion for many people. Fortunately, this was soon followed by a rebuttal.

Finally, let's name the composition of the Time Machine group in 2015, which has remained unchanged to this day: Andrei Makarevich (guitar, vocals), (vocals, bass guitar), Valery Efimov (drums) and Andrei Derzhavin (keyboards, backing vocals).
