In the beginning it was a literary phenomenon. Fifty Shades of Gray was published in France in 2012 and became a bestseller even before sales began. E.L. James managed to turn a harlequin-like love story into an ode to sensuality. Alas, it has nothing to do with de Sade, Houellebecq and the vicious erotic literature of the eighteenth century ... The peculiarity of this saga is that it brought people back to bookstores, then, when the film was released on February 11, 2015, to cinemas. Since Hollywood has always been good at turning popular stories into blockbusters, this film was as successful as expected, cementing hopes for subsequent films along the way. It was through this factor that Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan met with journalists from around the world in the huge, gloomy space of Universal Studios during the promotion of the film Fifty Shades Darker. She is just like her character, cold and reserved. He is a charming Englishman with good manners.

The first film is about sex, humor and domination. In the second, perhaps, Anastacia takes power into her own hands.

Dakota Johnson: Given the ending of the first film, it is very important for her to take control of their relationship. If Christian wants to be with her, it will be on her terms. But, of course, their relationship will develop. Anastasia will not only compromise, but sacrifice her beliefs for him. As he is, in fact.

Is this a love story or a fight between two egos?

Jamie Dornan: Love! It is the whole essence of the films and the novel. "Fifty Shades" is not about how two "I's" came together in a fight, it is a story about two people who are trying to build their love in the best way. The films do justice to the books and remain fairly close to them in content.

The movies are a little more fun. Anastacia is much more entertaining on the movie screen than on the pages of a book, isn't she?

Dakota Johnson: She's a pretty strong character.

Jamie Dornan: However, perhaps it was you who gave her this strength, character, sense of humor.

Dakota Johnson: Perhaps ... She seems pretty funny to me, but not everyone discovers it in her.

Jamie Dornan: Well, in the second film, this aspect of her character will be revealed even more. [laughs]

How do each of you see your characters?

Jamie Dornan: Ha, if only we knew! We constantly discuss this among ourselves and with the director. But I don't feel like a big brother giving advice to my little sister. We just try to stay on the same wavelength.

These roles involve real intimacy. Did you have to become friends in real life to make this possible?

Dakota Johnson: We have a special relationship. I am very close with my wife Jamie, with his children, she is a wonderful person. A huge number of franchises are filmed in Hollywood, but, in my opinion, this one is the only one where the actors have become real friends. On the other hand, if it were not so, it would complicate things ...

Did you become friends off-set?

Jamie Dornan: I wouldn't say that. We work together thirteen hours a day, so we had time to get to know each other better! [Laughs.] It brings people closer together, creates shared memories. Many will say that this is all a movie, but we became friends pretty quickly. We have the same approach to roles, we do not mind laughing, especially after the most intense scenes. We are now deeply connected. The success that we have experienced together is also quite a test.

You were filming in Nice when the terrorist attack took place.

Jamie Dornan: I was there with my family, the film crew was in Monaco at that time. During the terrorist attack, we slept because I have small children, so we go to bed early. But at night they called me a lot, asking if everything was all right.

Dakota Johnson:
And I didn’t sleep. I didn’t go to bed until I found out if everything was okay with all the team members. I was collecting information drop by drop ... It was a very difficult event. We wanted to stay to help France. And even more so, I didn't want to shock people with the sight of a film crew from Hollywood, who came only to work. As a young American woman, I have never been so close to the epicenter of an attack. I watched TV for hours, read newspapers.

The next day, according to Mr. Gray and Miss Steele, it was impossible to say that something had happened?

Dakota Johnson: But it happened. We asked the French on our team whether to suspend filming - out of respect. But they chorus asked us to continue, to return to work, not wanting to dance to the tune of the terrorists.

How do you see the continuation of your career? There is always a risk that you will be constantly identified with your characters.

Dakota Johnson: Personally, it doesn't bother me. I can’t believe that someone will always see me Anastasia.

Jamie Dornan: I agree. I think I can distance myself from my hero. How many actors before me have had iconic roles, and which of them went on to star in other films? The real problem here is simply not being able to portray a character with the same impact. The challenge is to keep working, to look for good projects, the ones that people would like to see.

Jamie, you choose amazing roles. You just starred in a film by French director Alexandre Azha, The Ninth Life of Louis Drax. Quite a small project ...

Jamie Dornan: Surely different from the Hollywood franchises. The budget is completely different, but the stakes are the same, and I just need this balance between such "personal" projects and high-profile films. I also really want to do a TV show that allows a lot more scripting than a classic film. Although, in a sense, I owe the freedom that I now have to Christian Gray.

Dakota Johnson: For us, Fifty Shades is a real platform for action. Films allow us to open up. Instead of confining us to one role, as you think, they open up new horizons.

Now you are under the sights of the paparazzi around the clock. It's like the proverb: no pain - no result?

Jamie Dornan: I don't care, I just pretend they don't exist. I have never been interested in other people's lives, so I live as usual. When people gather in Paris near the Opéra Garnier, because we have filming there, this is just a certain moment in my life. The next day something else awaits me. My day-to-day life is not about shooting a film in Paris. It's just a few days ... Moreover, such "incidents" are extremely rare.

Dakota Johnson: I try to live as normal a life as possible. Of course, I have famous parents, but I also have many friends who do not belong to the film world. Of course, when I go to the premiere, I always think about what I should wear. But when I go shopping, it doesn't bother me much. [Laughs.]

Jamie Dornan: The more you think about it, the more you go crazy. Better to try to live a normal life.

Dakota Johnson: Yes, and it would be boring to think through daily what you should do, what you should say ...

So fame and recognition are not a problem for you?

Jamie Dornan: Yes, it is. Maybe we just do it better than other people. We live in the countryside, there are few people interested in Mr. Gray. I would get more attention if I spent five days a week in New York clubs. It was fun when I was twenty. Now I'm thirty-four and I'm not.

Jamie, you were in a rock band in England. Was it the success that pushed you towards a film career?

Jamie Dornan: [Laughs.] We were friends, starting when we were seventeen, without any ulterior motive. Many wanted us to finally break up. But the adventure ended abruptly.

Dakota Johnson: Can't imagine you in a rock band. [Laughs.]

Some critics call Fifty Shades a mixture of Cinderella and The Life of Adele. What do you think of it?

Dakota Johnson: Oh, I like it. But how many people actually say that? Either way, I find it flattering. This is great!

Jamie Dornan: I love these films, so I don't mind either. In this particular case.

Dakota Johnson & Jamie Dornan Full Interview for "Paris Match" (2017)

The sequel to the acclaimed erotic blockbuster "50 Shades of Gray" ─ "50 Shades Darker" has been released in Russia. We decided to go through Johnson's fresh interviews and find out who this shy brunette is, how she feels about her popularity and the role that brought her fame, and what would happen if she was deprived of her whips and bandages.

At the Fifty Shades Darker Premiere (Los Angeles, February 2, 2017)

Dakota Johnson is not yet 30. She is the daughter of famous actors Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson and made her film debut at the age of 10. Then young Dakota starred in the film of her stepfather Antonio Banderas "Woman without Rules." After 15 years and a little more than ten episodic roles, she gets the right to become a woman who will change the sex life of millions. Unexpected, right?

“When I read the book, I really liked Anastacia - she is honest, sincere, loving. I was glad to play it. Since I was going to be nude, I wanted to look not only good, but very good! Therefore, I studied a lot, ate healthy food and underwent so many epilations that no woman dreamed of, "Johnson recalls about his participation in the film in an interview with American Glamor.

Of course, the main merit in the struggle for sexual liberation and a sharp jump in the sales of household ropes belongs to the well-known author of the sex bestseller E.L. James (pseudonym of the English writer Erica Leonard Mitchell). But still, it was Dakota who became the girl who gave her face and body to the previously faceless heroine. Now everyone can imagine what the same Anestacia looks like. It was the adaptation of Fifty Shades that made the characters so real and desirable. Even if you have not read the book, you know for sure that the main character of the novel is the owner of an angelic appearance, an immaculate look and a shy smile. Whose merit is this? That's right, Dakota.

“Overall, the film could have been a little more slutty. True, we tried to make "Shades" as sexy as possible, but we also had the task of entering the framework of rental with an R rating (viewing by persons under 16 is allowed, but only accompanied by adults ─ approx. ed.), so some of the scenes had to be handled very delicately, ”says the legendary Anne W. Coates, 90-year-old Oscar winner and renowned editor, who was entrusted with the final version of 50 Shades of Gray. It is she who is responsible for the appearance in the frame of the naked body parts of Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson.

Interestingly, in the end, Dakota's participation in the film brought her mostly some problems: her then boyfriend, musician of the Drowners rock band Matthew Heath, could not stand the test of his friend's fame and left the girl without waiting for the premiere. Dakota herself admitted in an interview with The Telegraph: “There is something terrible in the fact that now absolutely everyone will know who I am. Naturally, I am worried about this role. All the time. Even after the release of the film on the screens, I periodically ask myself the question: “What the hell have I done?”. But more often than not, I'm still comfortable. " Probably, in accepting the role and plot of the film, the actress's romantic attitude to this whole story played a lot. In her opinion, Fifty Shades of Gray is an amazing tale of love. Only a true romantic could see tenderness in the middle of the "red room of pain" and love between the lines of a contract about sexual boundaries.

In confirmation - the confession of Johnson, who once told reporters that she was very afraid to tell her parents that she got the role. Well, tell me, what kind of person would hesitate to tell their loved ones that they will star in a film that, if it doesn’t become a cult movie, will definitely tear this world of cinema to shreds, collecting record amounts at the box office? “Yes, sex. Yes, a few whips and vicious words. Let the chest and butt be seen mute in close-up, but your parents did not do that in the frame! " - Johnson can confidently answer. But no, the girl did not care that the role she received would glorify her like no one else. The family's opinion is more important. Isn't that a sign of the humanity that is so often denied in Hollywood?

Now it becomes clear why Dakota forbade her relatives to watch the film - there is nothing for her relatives to see too much sex in her performance. Well, her right, but something tells us that the parents still violated the taboo. After all, their daughter became the face of a film that changed the life of at least half of the planet. Wouldn't you do that?

As for popularity, Dakota speaks of her very modestly and emphasizes that the real star of the film is Jamie Dornan. Here she is, of course, disingenuous. Even if the role of Christian Gray has become truly fateful for the 33-year-old Briton, he cannot compete with the heroine of Dakota Johnson. Rather, both characters and their performers are on the same level of popularity. Imagining one without the other is a lost cause. Whom would Gray whip with his whips if not for the heroine Johnson?

However, such modesty is understandable. Dakota grew up in an acting family, so she absorbed such concepts as fame and fame with her mother's milk. It can scare you dozens of paparazzi with cameras at the ready, and when your parents are sex symbols of the 1980s, you start to treat all this, if not simpler, then certainly without "stardust".

About a career. Why isn't my mom filmed anymore? She is a wonderful actress! Why isn't my grandmother filmed anymore? She is gorgeous (American actress Tippy Hedren, best known for her roles in the Hitchcock thrillers Birds and Marnie - ed.). This industry is bloody brutal. It doesn't matter how cool you are - if you are an actress, you will always feel unnecessary. This is absurd! Whenever I'm not busy with projects, the thought does not leave me that it is not a fact that I will be filming again. And every year this feeling will grow more and more ...

About the family. I have always understood that my family is popular, but this never gave me the right to think that because of this, everything in the world is allowed to me.

About filming the sequel. Until the work on the second part of "Shades" began, I had time to relax and ... say goodbye to friends, relatives, free time and dates. I knew that when the work began, there would be no time for all this ... Of course, it was still difficult to shoot explicit scenes, because there is no place for an intimate setting on the set ─ we are always in sight.

Films about love and sex are often very emotional and evoke a whole range of feelings in the viewer. Have you ever wondered how the actors themselves feel during the filming? Indeed, in most cases these are strangers to each other, who are embarrassed to even undress, not to mention more ... Recently it came out on the screens, and for the release of this erotic story we found for you the statements of the main actors about the filming of the most piquant. It turns out that things are not so simple on the other side of the frame ...

Jamie Dornan:

As actors, we are willing to do strange things in the frame. But we still have normal human reactions. When on the first day the command “Motor!” Sounded, I had only one thought in my head: “What is going on here? I'm a father! " I learned to knot, to work with a whip. Some of the scenes filmed in The Red Room were uncomfortable for me. I had to do things with Dakota that I would not have done with any woman of my own free will. I always wanted to protect her. I understood how difficult it was for her. The command "Cut!" Sounds, and she is still lying naked, tied to the bed.

Filming began three days after my daughter was born. One rainy evening after work, I kissed my wife and child and went to the so-called sex dungeon to see how the domination session was going on. It was ... helpful. But I can't say that I enjoyed it.

Dakota Johnson:

During the filming of the bed scenes, there were very few people on the set - my mother told me that I have the right to demand this. I didn’t see the famous “Red Room” for two and a half months - they didn’t let me go there, they didn’t even show the photo. When I first got there, I reacted just like Ana herself. It was a different world: whips, whips, and a whipping bench, which was made especially for me, according to my exact measurements.

Jamie was the first to throw a blanket over me when the take was filmed. And he tried to make sure that I did not really hurt. But one day I got a neck injury - Jamie had to throw me on the bed over and over again. I think I need to edit a coub from this scene!

Jamie and I had one coach for two. Since I was going to be naked, I wanted to look not only good, but very good! Therefore, I did a lot of work, ate healthy food and underwent so many hair removal that no woman dreamed of.

Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson on explicit scenes in Fifty Shades of Gray was last modified: September 8th, 2017 by Olga Kulygina

On the occasion of Valentine's Day, the creators of the Fifty Shades of Gray franchise have prepared a hot sequel for loyal fans. The writers of the "dark" sequel promised that there will not be as many erotic scenes as in the previous part, but there will be more than enough psychologism and passion.

However, this is not surprising, since the first film left the audience with a wide mouth and intrigue in their eyes. It is still unknown how the relationship between Anastacia Steele and Christian Gray will develop. So many controversies and ulterior motives that fans of the franchise can only guess at.

As for the personal life of the actors who played the main roles in the movie "Fifty Shades Darker", the question still remains open. Dakota Jones a few days ago shared with reporters how it is sometimes difficult for her to put up with her current role. According to the plot, the events around the key characters unfold around the world of eroticism and forbidden pleasure, so it is simply impossible to do without sex scenes.

Men don't want Anastacia Steele in Dakota Johnson

Since this film was the debut for the Hollywood actress, it is not surprising that such images will be attributed to her. According to the celebrity, she would not want to end her career on such a note or move on to similar roles. The girl is tired of sexual moments, as well as of constant questions on such topics. It's not that Dakota Johnson doesn't like filming such scenes, but she is annoyed by their post-effects. The socialite said that she could have embodied herself in other roles, since her capabilities and desire are not limited by anything.

Due to her non-standard image, Dakota Johnson does not get along at all with the opposite sex. The famous actress said that men are afraid of Anastacia Steele. Or the celebrity is faced with excessive adoration and worship. She meets the first one much more often than she would like.

As for her relationship with Jamie Dornan, they are connected no more than a friendship. Young people understand each other well, so between there are no prohibitions regarding creativity. The creative alliance of site partners is built on honesty and trust.

In relations with her famous parents, Dakota Johnson also has problems. According to the Hollywood actress, Melanie Griffith and Joe Johnson, despite his familiarity with the world of cinema, it is difficult to watch her daughter's first scandalous films. There is still some awkwardness between the relatives and the girl. Friends of Dakota Johnson are more relaxed about the erotic role of a celebrity, but not in the way they would like.

Meanwhile, the Hollywood actress also finds the positive aspects of her debut role. The motion picture "Fifty Shades of Gray" gave the girl the opportunity to find herself in the world she had dreamed of for so long. In addition, she likes even the most contradictory aspects of the profession, so she is ready to develop and move on.

- Jamie, looking back, how do you rate your long "journey" lasting almost four years?

Indeed, Fifty Shades of Gray was released in 2015 and filmed in 2014. During this time, I gained invaluable experience and, of course, grew up as an actor. And, of course, it's nice to be involved in what many people like.

“Fifty Shades of Gray” was directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson. What do you think director James Foley has brought to the picture compared to the first film?

It must have been difficult for James to jump on the train, which had already left the station. Nevertheless, he succeeded: he respected what his predecessor was doing, and at the same time made his own movie. In a situation where you pick up another person's work, you have to be extremely delicate, and James did a great job with it.

- In the first two films, the relationship between the main characters - Christian Gray and Anastasia Steele - was very difficult. How are they developing in the new film?

We can say they are entering a more positive direction. Since our characters with Dakota Johnson are now married, they increasingly resemble an ordinary married couple. But that doesn't mean their lives are getting boring. As you might guess, the love of the heroes is tested again.

Firstly, marriage itself is not a small test for lovers - I think people who are married understand what I am talking about. And secondly, the feelings of the heroes are repeatedly tested for strength thanks to the scriptwriter. (Laughs.) For example, when Anastacia's former boss Jack Hyde enters the scene, the romance is clearly shifting towards a thriller.

- That is, a lot of action awaits the viewer?

Exactly. Although the shooting of the second and third films was carried out in parallel, it was more interesting for me to work on the film "Fifty Shades of Freedom". In it, the action develops more rapidly, there are scenes of car races, fights ... It cannot be said that fights and chases fell on my lot, but I was not without pleasure throwing fellow actors around me and doing various tricks.

- In the film Fifty Shades of Gray, Christian tried to control Anastacia in everything, in the film Fifty Shades Darker, she already dictates her terms to him. Who owns the situation in the third picture?

We can say that the heroes come together in the middle and balance, trying to reach the compromise that family life requires from lovers. To put it bluntly, they are trying to work as a team, and not fight for dominance.

- If there was no special chemistry between us and Dakota, we would not be able to play those special relationships that bind our heroes. Still from the film "Fifty Shades of Freedom". Photo courtesy of UPI Russia

Is your character different from the Christian we saw in the first two films?

I would say that he became more understanding, more human, or something ... Compared to the first picture, where Christian's thoughts and actions were difficult to understand, now we have an open book.

For any actor, such a role is a kind of challenge. The difficulty was that, on the one hand, it was necessary to play a sort of detached and cold type, accustomed to control everything around, and on the other hand, a charming guy who is liked by others.

- What can you say about the heroine - Anastacia has changed a lot since the movie "Fifty Shades of Gray"?

She finally matured, found her voice and turned into a strong, independent woman who makes her own decisions. It becomes clear that Anastacia really loves Christian. In a word, she is now not the unrequited sheep that she was before, and Christian accepts this, because he also really loves.

- What other interesting characters appear in the film "Fifty Shades of Freedom"?

One of the main ones is Jack Hyde. The audience met him in the film Fifty Shades Darker, but in the new film he gives a real shake-up to the main characters, becomes a source of drama and action. Eric Johnson is very good in this role, and he is also taller than me, which cannot but be annoying. (Laughs.)

Another character is Gia Matteo (played by Arielle Kebbel), a designer who is working on the interior of Christian's new home. She openly flirts with my hero, which causes outbursts of jealousy in Anastacia. But Christian reacts calmly to this situation - he is really happy with Anastacia.

- I heard that you became very friends with the performer of the role of Anastacia. It's true?

We adore each other. If there was no special chemistry between us and Dakota, we would not be able to play those special relationships that bind our heroes. We have come all this way together, and now that the shooting has come to an end, we remain great friends. I am confident that we will continue to support each other. After all, this work greatly influenced not only our career, but also ourselves. The thread that binds us is not so easy to break. It's forever.

- Did such a warm relationship help you during the filming of erotic scenes?

And how! The passion that literally burned Christian and Anastacia in the first two films is not waning. On the contrary, it becomes even stronger. It seems that these guys are insatiable, they cannot live a day without sex.

Erotic scenes are very difficult for actors - acting in them, you feel very vulnerable. Here you need absolute trust in your partner. And if in the film "Fifty Shades of Gray" Dakota and I were just getting to know each other, our relationship was only gaining momentum, then later we felt each other well. Sometimes they even managed to laugh, which greatly facilitated the work.

In general, there were many moments on the set that caused laughter. I remember we couldn't stop laughing while filming the wedding scene. We suddenly realized that the guy who went up with us in the elevator in the first film is now sitting in the front row at the marriage ceremony. For some reason, we found it very funny. Dakota and I often made each other laugh.

And that's great: it's hard to work when everything is too serious. Life is short, and you have to have time to enjoy it. Of course, work should be approached with all responsibility, but it would be nice to have fun from it. We are actors, and our main task is to entertain people. And how to do this if you do not treat yourself with humor? In principle, this applies to any profession. My father, for example, is a surgeon, but he is one of the funniest people I have met.

- Was there something on the set that you remember especially?

First of all, the fact that, as I already said, we were simultaneously filming two pictures at once. In my opinion, this made life much easier for the entire film crew. You know that for six months you have to give up everything and concentrate entirely on work. This helps to save not only time and money, but also energy.

Another bonus is a trip to France, where the heroes go on a honeymoon trip. The shooting schedule was not very tight, so we had enough free time. Dakota and other actors and I used it to wander around Paris and Nice, swim in the sea, and even go waterskiing. Those were wonderful days.
