Biography of the group "Shocking Blue". "Shoking Blue": history and discography of rock bands Shokine Blue Group composition

The team was founded in 1967 by Gitarist Robbie Van Levenom, a veteran of the famous Dutch rock band "Motion". The name "Shocking Blue" was inspired by Eric Clapton's song "Electric Blue". In addition to Wan Leiwen, the group included drummer Cornelius van der Beck, bassist Klasha Van der Shaft and vocalist Fred de Wilde. The first single of the Lucy Brown IS Back In Town group, which took 21st place in the Dutch Top 40, was released on the Pink Elephant label. One day, the collective manager was present at one party, where the group "Bumble bees" was performed with a striking vocalist Mariche Pourish, and decided that she would be a perfect addition to Shocking Blue. Robbie was immediately passionate for her vocal style, very different from other performers. Marishka, half the Hungarian, half the German, often sang with her father, playing a violin in the Gypsy orchestra.

Before the invitation to "Shocking Blue", she recorded a solo single called "Topkapi" and gained experience in various groups. She replaced Wilde and, no doubt, her vocals became a magnet that attract the audience and listeners; Her ringing voice gave music a clear sound of rhythm end-blues. As Robbie said: "When Marishka came, everything immediately twisted, and one of the first singles -" Venus "- became a great hit."

In the Netherlands, Venus ranked third, at the same time leading the charts in Belgium, France, Italy, Spain and Germany. The record attracted the attention of the newly founded American company "Colossus". The head of the label Jerry Ross signed a contract with "Shocking Blue" and was rewarded for the enterprise, when Venus in February 1970 was at the top of the state charts. It goes without saying that the group was extremely popular at home and had approximately fifty hits in the Dutch hit parades, while their records also had a good sales in France and Japan. The next single of the group "Mighty Joe" became the number one in Holland and, like his predecessor, was present in all charts.

"Never Marry A Railroad Man" also headed the top of the Dutch charts; Hello Darkness, Shocking You, "Long Lonesome Road", "Blossom Lady" and "Inkpot" occupied this position. Shocking Blue successfully connected bit and rhythm and blues with the eastern sound of the Indian sitara.

Robbie did not mind if the group turns on the albums of several cover versions of old songs, because it was constantly writing a new material for him too much load. "We did everything themselves, and DJs of radio stations would like to hear every time everything is completely new. But a large number of albums led to the fact that the group was forced to complement their cover versions. I was extremely difficult to write all the music and the word one. " Within a few months in 1970-1971, Guitarist Leo Van de ketter played with the group. Marishka, Robbie, Cornelius and Clase were together for three years: they toured the world, visiting such distant corners like Japan, Indonesia, Hong Kong and South America. Despite the fact that the Group continued to produce excellent and often innovative singles and occupy places in European charts, Robbie Van Leven fell into depression. It was oppressed by the limited success of the group, with the result that a quarrel began to occur inside the "Shocking Blue".

At first Klasha was gone, replaced in 1971 Henk Smithskamp. In 1973, Van Leuven himself left the group for a while, and Martin Wang Wiyk occupied his place. Without Robbie "Shocking Blue" still kept, but in 1974, Marishka, who decided to start the solo career, and the team was finally broken down from the group. In 1979, Robbie wanted to revive the group, but for some reason it did not happen then. However, in the late 1984th "Shocking Blue" reunited and gave two concerts at the "Back-to-The-Sixties" festival.

Marishka Mesher died from cancer on December 3, 2006 at the age of 59 years.

Biography

The conception of the group occurred in 1967. The culprit of the celebration is correct to consider Robby Van Leeuwen (Robby Van Leeuwen, 29.10.1944). I dare to notice that it was not the first trick. In general, there are rumors that he changed the groups as gloves and the failures and spills everywhere. For example, such wonderful groups as "Ricochets", "Six Young Riders" and "Motion" (Holland). This is probably one of his most famous "failures."

And in the Hague, in 1967, the Dutch guitarist and the author of Robbie songs finally met:

basista - Claasje Van Der Wal, 12/01/1949),
drummer - Van der Beek bark (Cornelius Van der Beek, 06/06/1948),
vocalista - Freda de Wilde Fred de Wilde (Fred de Wilde).

And they called it all this is not a crumbling American phrase "Shocking Blue" (blue, purple, very blue, very blue, crazy blue ..., etc., for sure, no one knows). They say that this is he having listened to the same composition Eric Clapton "Electric Blue" decided to call her group so much ...

The first official plate is correct to consider "Beat With US". In those days, the popular rhythm and blues became their style. "Beat With US" However, did not become a very popular disc, probably because, as I said, the rhythm of the blues was too common and many groups performed the music in the same vein. But it did not seem to our hero defeat and in general, no one was going to cry. And even Robbie himself once at the meeting of his colleagues, said: "Style - nothing! Music - everything! ". Everyone ashung and seemingly now, everything will go to the way. However, the birthplace did not forget his heroes. Freda "Zakhomotaly" to the service in the army. So in 1968, Shocking Blue records only one single - "Lucy Brown IS Back In Town", which took 21st place in the Dutch Top 40. The single was released on the "Pink Elephant" label. It seemed that only a miracle could save them and ... oh yeah! The miracle happened and was fine like ... What can be compared with a miracle named Marisk Versere! Mariska Veres, October 1, 1947 - December 2, 2006)
One day, cool uncle fell in love with a wonderful vocalist, which performed at some party with the Bumble Bees gang. There is a cool uncle realized that his life ... oh, that is, the life of the "Shocking Blue" without a marisian is worth nothing. Robbie was immediately fascinated by her vocal style, very different from other performers. And she, in turn, did not understand her happiness and performed with her father, who played a violin in all sorts of Gypsy orchestras, despite the fact that his daughter was half of Hungarian, half of German. However, she recorded Solnik before it was found in the Shocking Blue team and he was called "Topkapi". Also, she entered them already prepared for team performances, having gained experience in various groups.

The Father's her name was Lyosh Peresh, he came from Hungary, was famous in the Netherlands Gypsy violinist, a mother - French-Russian origin, a native of Germany). Marishka began his singer career in 1964 with the pop group "Les Mystères", then in 1966 sang in the Blue Fighters group, in 1967 - "Bumble bees", "Danny and His Favorites", later - "Motowns".

She replaced Fred, the original vocalist Shocking Blue and became a symbol of the group! Her ringing voice gave music a clear sound. As Robbie said: "When Mariska came, everything immediately twisted, and one of the first singles -" Venus "became one of the greatest hits of this group and spread throughout the planet, heading the charts in Holland, Belfungia, Range, Italy, Spain, Germany, Germany , USA, Japan and in many other parts of the world! And of course, all sound recording companies, producers and managers, like flies on ... oh,, that is, as ants on sugar! I'm talking about "Colossus". The head of the label Jerry Ross signed a contract with Shocking Blue and was rewarded for the enterprise! The "Mighty Joe", "Never Marry A Railroad Man", "Hello Darkness", "Shocking You", "Long Lonesome Road", "Blossom Lady" and "Blossom Lady" and "Inkpot" took place on top. "Shocking Blue" successfully connected the "bit" and "rhythm end-blues" with the oriental sound of the Indian Sitara. For Robbie, it was becoming more difficult to compose songs and the team decided to include a cover version in the albums! Here is one of his statements:

"We did everything themselves, and DJs of radio stations would like to hear every time everything is completely new. But a large number of albums led to the fact that the group was forced to complement their cover versions. I was extremely difficult to write all the music and the word one. " Within a few months in 1970-1971, Guitarist Leo Wang de Ketteridge played with the group. Marisk, Robbi, Cornelius and Claus were together for three years: they toured around the world, visiting such distant corners like Japan, Indonesia, Hong Kong and South America. Despite the fact that the Group continued to produce excellent and often innovative singles and occupy places in European charts, Robbie Van Liven fell into depression. It was oppressed by the limited success of the group, with the result that a quarrel began to occur inside the "Shocking Blue".

At first, Claus was gone, replaced in 1971 Henk Smithskamp. In 1973, Wang Liven himself left the group for a while, and Martin Wang Wiyk occupied his place. The album "Good Times" (1974) from all other groups of the team distinguishes the Glam-fatal sound. After writing the last (very strong) single "Gonna Sing Me A Song" with a no less powerful composition on the side "B" - "Get It On", the team leaves Marishka, which suddenly decides to start the solo career. For example, as a jazz singer as part of the Shocking Jazz Quintet. This time the replacement could not be (1974). In 1979, Robbie wanted to revive the group, but for some reason it did not happen then. However, in the late 1984th "Shocking Blue" reunited and gave two concerts at the "Back-to-The-Sixties" festival. Roby after the collapse of the group Taki formed another group "Galaxy Inc" in 1993 Marishka collected a new composition of the Shocking Blue, the group released the singles and acted across Europe. In 2003 recorded the album with the Gypsy ensemble Andrei Serban "Gypsy Heart".

and "Venus" and today are performed by many groups and soloists - so, in 1986 she reached the 1st place in American charts performed by the Stars ON 45 group and after - in the execution of the Bananarama team. It is noteworthy that the initial riff was borrowed from the famous song "Pinball Wizard" of the British group "The WHO". In the 90s, all SHOCKIN BLUE plates are reissued in CD format (lovers of this group should be warmed from some "pirate disks", which the Things of another Dutch group "Nektar Assaasie" are included as bonus tracks.

Marishka died in his home in the Netherlands (October 1, 1947 - December 2, 2006) from the bladder cancer and liver.

HISTORY OF THE GROUP SHOCKING BLUE

The Dutch Shocking Blue Group was born in 1968 in Hague. The 2nd personality is in its composition: a popular guitarist and the author of Robby Van Leenven songs (he wrote all the hits of the group) and the singer of the Magyarsky origin of Mariska Veres. The gypsy violinist. Klassje Van Derwal plays a guitar on the bass guitar, and the Cornelis Van der Beck for the drum tools. Approximately after two unsuccessful, publishing plan, plates of a small Dutch company with a strange name "Pink Elephant", just appeared excellent recording of Venus, simple, uncontrollably exciting composition in the style of rock and roll. Three million sold records, championship in Belgium's charts, USA, Scandinavia, France, Italy, Germany, Japan, Australia, Spain and other countries - so Venus opened Dutch pop music the road to light (after Shocking Blue, she was laid by Tee Set, George Baker Selection, Golden Earring, Cats, Focus and other groups).

Shockig Blue managed to introduce home and foreign tables of popularity The following songs: Mighty Joe
(Several in the style of Jefferson Airplane), I`ll Write Your Name Through Fire (from At Home album), Long Lonesome Road, Hello Darkness, Never Marry and Railroad Man (Very strong Hit), Shocking You and the last Out of Mind.

On the third album, we are meeting the new guitarist of the LEO Van der Kettery group (Van Leeuven mainly engaged in the preparation and production of plates). This disc, with such songs like Velvet Heaven, The Bird of Paradise and I Saw Your Face, by the way, is still considered to be the most successful sample of Shocking Blue music recorded on the record. The style of pretty Dutch is something like the style of Creedence Clearwater Revival. They also return to the rock and roll of the late 50s, although on the disk, of course, their range is much wider (for example, Sitar in Aka Ragu on the AT Home album). A typical sample is, say, hit Dlossem Lady, in which, possibly, "outdated" guitar solo. Shocking Blue stands on the border of rock music, based on the listeners who like well-made bit songs. Their main motto is, however, the expressive "peculiar" voice of an attractive Marishena Pop.

History of the SHOCKING BLUE group (Unofficial Site)
SHOCKING BLUE was formed in 1967 under the guitarist Robbie Van Luvien, a veteran of the well-known Dutch rock band "The Motions". The name of the group was born thanks to the Track Eric
Clapton "Electric Blue".
Kan Lyuvenu joined the drummer of Corban Beak, Basist Klyassi Van der Vel and Vild's vocalist.

In the spring of 1968, SHOCKING BLUE signed a contract with the independent Dureco Netherlands company. The first single of the Lucy Brown IS Back In Town group was released with a recording label "Pink Elephant" and took the twenty-first place in the Dutch Top 40 chart.

Soon after that, the manager and music editor "Shocking Blue" was present at the celebration, visited by the success of the song "Golden Earring", which ranked first in Holland. At the party, a group called "Bumble bees" with an energetic and strong vocalist Marishka Veres, and men thought that she would be a magnificent addition to "Shocking Blue". The manner of her singing, strikingly different from most of the other local vocalists of that time, made a very strong impression on Robbie. Marishka, half the Hungarian, half the German, often sang with her father, playing a violin in the Gypsy orchestra. Before the invitation to "Shocking Blue", she recorded a solo single called "Topkapi" and gained experience in various groups. Marishka replaced Freda de Wilda, and, beyond any doubt, it was her vocal who became a magnet that attract the audience and listeners; Her ringing voice gave music a clear sound of rhythm end-blues. Robbie: "When Marishka came, everything happened in a matter of little time! The first components recorded by us to the album "Venus" became great hits. "
In the Netherlands "Venus" immediately settled in third place, while at the same time heading the charts in Belgium, France, Italy, Spain and Germany. The entry was made on the latest sound recorder American lable "Colossus". The head of Label Jerry Ross received a huge reward for his works, when in February 1970 "Venus" took off in first place. It will not be superfluous to say that the group was very popular not only at home, and Venus dispersed perfectly in France, and in Japan.

Next for "Venus" Creation of the group - the album "Mighty Joe", became the number one in Holland and, like his predecessor, was present in all charts. Never Marry A Railroad Man also headed the top of the Hit Pandas of the Dutch Rock Chart; Hello Darkness, Shocking You, "Long Lonesome Road", "Blossom Lady" and "Inkpot", "Blossom Lady" and "Inkpot", Blossom Lady and Inkpot, but in American charts, did not have one of the 43rd places in American charts.

Shocking Blue successfully connected bit and rhythm and blues with psychedelic elements of that time. Robbie did not mind if the group turns on the albums of several cover versions of old songs, because it was constantly writing a new material for him too much load. "We did everything themselves, and DJs of radio stations would like to hear every time everything is completely new. But a large number of albums led to the fact that the group was forced to complement their drives. I was extremely difficult to write all the music and the word one. "
For several months of 1970-1971, Guitarist Leo Wang de Ketteridge plays with a group.
Marishka, Robbie, Cor and Klyassie were together for three years: they toured around the world, visiting such distant corners like Japan, Indonesia, Hong Kong and South America. The conditions for their travel were primitive and barely comparable to the luxury of travel of the most famous groups of the present. And "Shocking Blue" covered the distances, hiding all together in an uncomfortable railway car. "We did not expect that we would become so busy," Robbie responds. "All these tour trips were very difficult for me."

Despite the fact that the Group continued to produce excellent and often innovative singles and occupy places in European charts, Robbie Van Luven fell into depression. It was oppressed by the limited success of the group, as a result of which a large quarrel occurred inside "Shocking Blue". The first, in 1971, went to Klyassie. He was changed by Henk Smithskamp.

In 1973, Robbie Van Luven partially left a group, and Martin Wang Wrink came to his place. Without Robbie "Shocking Blue" still kept, but in 1974, from the group left and Marishka, who decided to start the solo career.

In the middle of the seventies, Robbie returned to the music industry with the Galaxy Lyn group, more folk-oriented and jazz than "Shocking Blue". He also became a producer of a solo single Marishe called "Too Young". Subsequently, Robbie released several hits at the "Mistral" studio. The team broke up at the beginning of the eighties, and in 1983 the guitarist moved from Hague to Luxembourg, where he lived in the distance from the musical business. In 1996, he returned to Holland.

At the end of 1984, Shocking Blue reunited again and gave two concerts at the BACK-TO-THE-SIXTIES festival. They proved that they are worthy of our memory: Wang Luven is still holding his style, and Marishka has one of the most wonderful female votes. And their interpretation of songs "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit" Groups "Jefferson Airplane" - are as strong as their own.

In September 1993, Marishka Vesses decided to breathe new life in Shocking Blue.

But no one came from the former musicians to the group. Robbie Van Luven allowed Marishka to leave the name "Shocking Blue" for her new group and even became the producer CD-Single "Body & Soul", released in 1994. The group performed at many festivals of the sixties and seventies, mainly in Germany.
